Thank God. I hope that bastard spends many years behind bars.

Nothing can bring George Floyd back to his family. Nothing can ever make up for his brutal, senseless murder. But this verdict could be the beginning of genuine systemic change.

DastardlytheFriendlyMutt · 20/04/2021 23:08

Yes accountability not justice.

Would be disappointing if he was out in 6 years with a 12 year sentence. I hope he is put in general population and not solitary

Lndnmummy · 20/04/2021 23:33

I hope he dies in prison. I hope that someone puts their knee on his neck for 9 minutes and 21 seconds. An eye for an eye. I just can’t bear it. I hope he spends the rest of his life looking over his shoulder in that prison.

I let out a sigh of relief when I heard the news. I do not know how I would have felt if the verdict had been not guilty. I almost could not believe it was true. As others have said on this thread, may this be the start of real change in America when it comes to the policing of black people and how they are treated. I have no feeling for the officer that did this inhuman act. I just despair for the people who are the targets of unwarranted hate, and oppression due to nothing other than the colour of their skin.

HmmmmmmInteresting · 21/04/2021 14:19

@C130 I'm only hopeful of this because Kamala and Biden have spoken of wanting to make change. If the orange monster was still in charge I don't think anything would have changed with all the white supremacists in the system. Well, let's hope.

C130 · 21/04/2021 21:27

Yes HmmmmmmInteresting, we can be hopeful that Biden and Kamala will act on their words. The problem is that the white supremacist are still present and will be pushing back. It has been too long that Black people in America have been waiting, for equality and the right to live with pride and dignity. Nobody could have sung it better than the brilliant Sam Cooke. A change is gonna come. Its time.

Rege · 21/04/2021 22:23

and just when we thought there was about to be change, another shooting happens. 16yr old girl shot dead in Ohio. the 16yr old had called the police claiming some women were trying to stab her. Police officer arrives mid fracas and witnesses the time the 16yr old lunge at another girl/woman. She's shot dead.
It's unclear from the video I've seen who had the knife but it seems any call to the police to settle any unrest involving black people can only be settled by shooting them dead.

Ohio shooting

DastardlytheFriendlyMutt · 22/04/2021 00:22

If Biden really wants to make a change America needs gun control. Push that through, teach police how to de-escalate situations and take their guns away too. FFS it's war on those streets.

C130 · 22/04/2021 08:39

It's too much.

BIWI · 27/04/2021 15:16

Derek Chauvin isn't going to be sentenced until 16 June! Why does it take so long? The verdicts were all unanimous (thank God) and there are evidently clear guidelines as to the length of sentences.
