Thoughts please... I’m lost for words

It's typical of UK though, isn't it?

'Unless I directly call you a racial slur I am not racist' style.

UK is sly like that. So this report doesn't surprise me.

Laughable to say UK is an anti-racism 'model' for other majority White countries.

This report has recommendations, apparently. I dread to think what they are.

Maybe Prince William's Emergency Black Friend or Kemi had some input.

Forwhatitsworth101 · 31/03/2021 01:52

I know it’s a complete joke and mockery of all the issues raised since BLM.

Basically trying to silence us.

I thought there would be a thread on this.

One of the most gaslighting things is that they said the term "BAME" shouldn't be used, but when they talk about income disparities they use the term "BAME" to hide the disparities that some ethnic groups face over others.....

.

RedMarauder · 31/03/2021 05:21

Maybe Prince William's Emergency Black Friend or Kemi had some input.

Kemi had lots of input and will use the report to beat us with, like her bestie Priti.

(Btw if you are working from home David Lammy is on LBC at 10am for 3 hours. He did the report on the justice system a few years back. Hopefully he will talk about this.)

The same thoughts as I have for another news story from yesterday which was that the police acted appropriately at the Sarah Everard Vigil.

Those thoughts were absolute nonsense

Lessthanaballpark · 31/03/2021 06:03

It also found that children from ethnic communities did as well or better than white pupils in compulsory education, with black Caribbean pupils the only group to perform less well.

So, racial disadvantage doesn’t exist, except when it does? Confused

Forwhatitsworth101 · 31/03/2021 06:14

@StarCat2020 with respect this thread is about the report on institutional racism- please don’t try to derail with Sarah Everend.

It looks like they didn’t lift stones where they would find anything and when they did find evidence they attributed it to something else as this ridiculous quote shows.

“ The report says: “We found that most of the disparities we examined, which some attribute to racial discrimination, often do not have their origins in racism.””

You totally missed my point there but nevermind

Lessthanaballpark · 31/03/2021 06:56

Also let’s not forget the Black Maternity Scandal with black women not receiving the same standard of maternal care and 4 times more likely to die due to childbirth.

And surveys showing that too many medical students believe black people feel less pain.

But no, nothing to see here folks!

InThisMultiverse · 31/03/2021 07:11

Admittedly I’ve not read the full report but a BBC article reads, “It noted that some communities continued to be "haunted" by historic racism, which created "deep mistrust" and could be a barrier to success.” Victim blaming at its best. The black Caribbean community is effectively at fault for continued relative disadvantages for not getting over slavery and just moving on. Wow.

So we found issues but we couldn't find why the issues arise but it isn't due to racism

Guess David Lammy et al are liars...

awesomekillick · 31/03/2021 07:49

The report is a national disgrace. It's shameful.

InThisMultiverse · 31/03/2021 08:05

It is a product of institutional racism.

Omg!! Isn't this the textbook example of how things get stacked against people who then have no chance of breaking through on their own?

Black people, racism and human rights - committees.parliament.uk/publications/3376/documents/32359/default/

Seems the House of Lords and the House of Commons joint committee on Human Rights report that came out in November 2020 is "historic".

RedMarauder · 31/03/2021 09:19

All these MPs and Peers are liars -

Harriet Harman QC MP (Labour, Camberwell and Peckham) (Chair)
Fiona Bruce MP (Conservative, Congleton)
Karen Buck MP (Labour, Westminster North)
Joanna Cherry QC MP (Scottish National Party, Edinburgh South West)
Pauline Latham MP (Conservative, Mid Derbyshire)
Dean Russell MP (Conservative, Watford)
Lord Brabazon of Tara DL (Conservative)
Lord Dubs (Labour)
Baroness Ludford (Liberal Democrat)
Baroness Massey of Darwen (Labour)
Lord Singh of Wimbledon CBE (Crossbench)
Lord Trimble (Conservative)

This is from the MPs and Peers listed above "historic" report -
The failings of successive governments to act in response to the successive reports and reviews shows that something is wrong with the architecture which is supposed to protect human rights and promote racial equality.

So now we know why the current government has produced this shit.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 09:49

This is Tony Sewell:-

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/16/concern-choice-charity-boss-tony-sewell-head-uk-race-commission

He also blamed black communities (specifically lack of male role models and absent fathers) for educational underachievement in iirc 2010. Now that he seems unable to show that, he has moved on. (interestingly, black educational achievements improved because money was piled into London schools - not because there was nothing to see here , the problem was acknowledged-, which has actually increased other disparities or made them more visible)

He is a well know 'institutional racism denier'. The moment he was put in charge of this commission anyone who knows his work knew what the outcome would be.

Most sociologists also don't like the term 'white working class' but that is being used with merry abandon. It is a bit odd as this government also likes to say that class doesn't exist when it suits them.

I await David Lammy's response with interest.

Sorry, am a a visitor to this corner of MN but knew there would be an interesting discussion here; if that's OK.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 09:52

Also this :

www.theguardian.com/education/2021/mar/26/black-graduates-shut-out-of-academic-science-and-technology-careers

This is actually happening on Tony Sewell's watch as this is what his charity works on.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 09:55

This report has recommendations, apparently. I dread to think what they are.

Lengthening the school day (because the gov wants to do this so needs evidence) ; desist from using BAME as a term.

These seem to be the main two.

RedMarauder · 31/03/2021 10:11

Lammy is angry with this report.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 10:12

He is FURIOUS! And so disappointed.

Great listening.

Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 10:13

Of course, the focus on white working class is because they believe they might get votes from them. And want to keep them.

RedMarauder · 31/03/2021 10:26

@Piggywaspushed

Of course, the focus on white working class is because they believe they might get votes from them. And want to keep them.
Except the ones in London.
Piggywaspushed · 31/03/2021 10:33

That is true but I guess that doesn't matter as they won the election without them.
