All I want for Xmas are toddler books featuring non white characters

That aren't about being non-white.
Bonus points if the family features white dad, black mum, mixed kid.
Bonus bonus points if the story is about introducing a new baby.

Here's what I don't want: stories about how being different is great!

Anyone come across anything that fits the bill?

It doesn’t exactly fit the bill but I loved Peepo because it has a single mum and less “perfect” families. There is a non white family but I think they are Indian/Pakistani, I’m well passed toddlers so can’t fully remember. I think all the books by the same illustrator author are similar (as in not white blonde families).
Sorry not much help, hopefully more people will be along soon. I had similar issues trying to find characters who were disabled but not hooked up to machines and smiling serenely.

Try The Girl, the Bear and the Magic Shoes by Julia Donaldson Thanks

OddBoots · 05/12/2020 07:53

Not exactly there but there are amazon.co.uk/New-Small-Person-Lauren-Child/dp/0723293619/ New Small Person]] and amazon.co.uk/dp/1509836322/ We're having a bay]]

Paperyfish · 05/12/2020 07:54

We liked “I am actually a penguin”. No babies though! It’s not about being different. It’s about dressing up as a penguin.

OddBoots · 05/12/2020 07:54

Sorry, my formatting went off there but hopefully you can fined them.

ILoveAnOwl · 05/12/2020 07:55

We love 'so much' by Trish Cooke and I've seen 'The new small person' by Lauren Childs has good reviews although we've not read it (it's about introducing a new sibling).

RHTawneyonabus · 05/12/2020 07:55

Well that didn’t work. It’s Please, baby, please by Spike Lee

Have you looked here?

Opticabbage · 05/12/2020 08:02

"Too many tickles"! No bonus points though, it's just a really run book if your toddler likes tickling.

Zhx3 · 05/12/2020 08:03

I bought Eat Up Gemma! for dd when she was a baby. Still love it.

Try here?

Amightygirl.com has a massive selection of books, it's an American site, but I would think you could find a lot of the books here too.
Also Ivyslibrary.com, this is aimed more at younger children too and is UK based 😊

lookingatthings · 05/12/2020 08:05

Ah some excellent suggestions here, thankyou! I was getting super frustrated last night when my search just seemed to bring back "it's all right to not be white" type books.

Thanks so much everyone.

It’s not the combination you’re looking for but I think this one shows a mixed race family with a toddler and a new baby : Cathryn Falwell. We have a baby. www.amazon.com/We-Have-Baby-Cathryn-Falwell/dp/0395739705/?linkCode=ur2&s=books&_encoding=UTF8&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1329965864&creative=9325&camp=1789&sr=1-1

Please baby please has got some GORGEOUS illustrations. And is about being a frustrating toddler, which is def relatable for every kid ;)

Hercwasonaroll · 05/12/2020 08:10

The Anna Hibiscus books are lovely.

CuteOrangeElephant · 05/12/2020 08:10

Story Orchestra: Swan Lake and Story Orchestra: Sleeping beauty both feature non-white characters as the main character. My DD got them last Christmas when she was two and absolutely adores those books.

WhispersOfWickedness · 05/12/2020 08:10

Ooo, in fact, I've just seen this on the Ivy's library Facebook page!

Yes to the Duplo house a PP has suggested. It's very loved in our house.

www.amazon.co.uk/Waiting-Baby-New-Rachel-Fuller/dp/1846432758?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

It doesn’t win points for storytelling but it’s good for talking about a new baby.

notasillysausage · 05/12/2020 08:15

Corduroy is a great book
