All I want for Xmas are toddler books featuring non white characters

That aren't about being non-white.
Bonus points if the family features white dad, black mum, mixed kid.
Bonus bonus points if the story is about introducing a new baby.

Here's what I don't want: stories about how being different is great!

Anyone come across anything that fits the bill?

When your child gets to about 4/5, there is a nice Little Gems book with a mixed race family called “mr bird nest and the house next door”.

So many lovely lovely books. Thank you all so much.

If the toddler in question likes dinosaurs then "If I had a Dinosaur" is fab. Dad is black and Mum is mixed race. It's also about a little girl, which is nice for a Dino centric book.

Havent read the full thread, but Ellie’s Magic Wellies is good. It doesn’t have the bonus points though.

Thank you these are great!

Dinosaur Department Store is good.

Baby Goes To Market by Atinuke - no bonus points but a lovely book.

Ada Twist scientist is about a black little girl who wants to be a scientist and all the experiments she does with her family, if that helps.

Whistle for Willie by Ezra Jack Keats. One if my favourites from my childhood so pretty much a classic now!

RosesforMama · 05/12/2020 19:50

...and The Snowy Day, Peters Chair etc which feature the same character.

Waiting for Baby by Rachel Fullerton is lovely, though as others have said it's white mum/brown dad/ mixed kid scenario.

We also enjoy Ada Twist, Scientist as recommended by others but it's not the storyline you're looking for.

Not about families as such but we love these books by Stephen Krensky.

I Know a Lot! (Empowerment) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1419709380/ref=cmswwrcppapiii_TL-YFbWE01S5E

There are a few- some with white and some with black children as main character- I think they are nice as a set as you get the mix. Also showing empowerment at a very basic level.

My husband is mixed race and I am white- our boys 'look' white but have a back grandparent and black cousins so it's so important to us that characters they are exposed to replicate their family.

Jojo and Gran Gran? Very sweet although no baby in the ones I've seen. The Christmas one is nice.
