Elsa123 · 09/08/2010 15:25

Nope- but I'm sure its totally normal Grin.

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 15:44

yeah, can you believe all the stuff that happens that's sooo odd and yet totally normal!?

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 16:21

Elsa I've forgotten peoples name, various job stuff and yesterday I called my DH by my brothers name. I just go with the flow, pat my bump, say sorry and say 'baby brain, what can you do'.

Dilly Are you sure it's not dried milk? I've had that a few times and it sort of looks like flakey skin.

Nymph How goes the great pram hunt?

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 16:28

oooh! Hermya maybe it is!!! Weeeeeeeeh! Too excited! I've had really flaky lips just recently and an itchy tummy so I just thought it was some kind of dried skin extravaganza. I did wonder if it was dried milk then just couldn't be sure...

Elsa123 · 09/08/2010 16:30

Dried milk- good bet Hermya. so Dilly, what were you doing looking at your nipples in the middle of the afternoon?!

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 16:32

Well, now I am off work for a week and have done most of the cleaning so get stuck for things to do... no actually I saw it this morning and only mentioned it now. I did just have a check though Wink gotta love these bfing bras!

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 16:40

LOL Dilly Grin, well I suppose there are worse ways to spend your days.

I'm on clothnappytree trying to bag myself some bargins, well thats if the person I'm trying to bag them off gets back to me.

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 16:46

O blimey Hermya ... nappies, that's what I should be sorting out, not sitting around looking at m'nips. Which ones are you going for? Has anyone bought from the Nappy Lady? I think I was thinking of Bambinex though bamboo is slower to dry than microfibre...

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 16:55

I've gone for a mixture tbh, I've got a few bumgenius, Rumparooz and cushie tushies BTP pcokets. I've also got some little lambs and tots bots fitteds to go with some motherease and tots bots wraps I bought. I'm also on the verge of getting an itti snap in one.

I'm going to be getting some easyfits as well as some flips as well to try them out. Most of what I have is preloved and I used my grant to get them. I can always sell them on if I don't get on with any of them.

I would get a mixture of bamboo and microfibre as bamboo is great for nights and you can use microfibre during the day.

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 16:58

OOh, lovely, I might do the same - get a few of each and then buy loads of what I love. Happy w preloved (love that term!) so Clothnappytree is the place to go for that? Marvellous!
Anyone else doing the reusable terry wipes rather than disposable wipes?

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 17:13

Yeah I'm also doing the reusable wipes as well, you can get the cheeky wipes kit but Bumfluff babies has some nice ones and they have a kit with a Monkeyfoot wet bag, wipes and wipes solution. Weenotions also do wipes as well. Clothnappytree is fab IMO they seem to have lots of stuff on there. You do have to be quick at times though.

Can you tell I've spent the majority of the past month on nappy websites?

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 17:30

Hermya you are the nappy guru!
I'm actually making notes here... you can make your own wipes solution too, e.g. with chamomile for sore skin when poo goes more acidic due to teething...

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 17:37

I know, I thinks it's brilliant. I'm going to get one of those little travel spray bottles from boots to put my own solution in. You can also get wipe solution cubes that are made of shea butter, I might get some of those as well just to see what they're like. If nothing else, I can always shove them in the bath.

Ivytheterrible · 09/08/2010 17:41

Hiya, would second going to kiddicare in Peterbrough to look at pushchairs if you can - they have a massive range of brands.

We are going for the micralite toro - lighter than a bugaboo bee; £200+ cheaper than bee; better side protection on the seat than bee; comes with all accesories, maxi-cosi car seat adapters etc so no extra cost; one piece fold so no taking off the chair part before putting it in the car which seems really common but feels like a PITA to me; was really easy to use and it looks great! Defo one to look at if you are a city dweller like me!

We looked around our first nursery today... really liked it but have nothing to compare it to. They only have 2 out 9 places left in the baby room for next April already

Also have the plasterers in this week skimming nursery walls so no more artex! Off work next week so really looking forward to having the time to get it decorated and organised.

Hermya321 · 09/08/2010 17:45

Dilly Funkymonkeypants have Bambinex, but babykind have a special on the microfibre teddies at the moment if you're interested.

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 18:01

Ivy thanks for the recommendation, looks great but boooo...can't use it from birth without the carrycot. Humph. Had really decided on bugaboobee (can use it from birth) but this one is giving me pause for thought, especially as it's cheaper. Will discuss w DH I think.

Cheers Hermya for rinky dink links. Almost as much fun as looking at my boobs (which can I just say have not grown to the epic proportions I had been hoping for...)

nymphadora · 09/08/2010 18:03

Made/making my own wipes. Got nappies but got appt on Friday to spend my voucher & sort out newborn nappies.

GOT PRAM!!!! Mountain buggy swift. Took away there & then as it was display one got 10% off & free rain cover. V pleased with it. It's now in living room with dd1 & dh playing with it. I had to show him how to fold it quick before I forgot how though.

Starting to feel more prepared. Car seat is only major thing left now

Yay Nymph!!! Thats brilliant!!!

DillyDora · 09/08/2010 18:34

Yay! And I love how rugged that pram sounds! Just looked it up, very groovy.

Glad to hear so many using reusables (which I knew) and making own wipes (which I didn't). Gives me a bit of courage in the face of people who keep saying I won't manage it....

nymphadora · 09/08/2010 18:59

It's very simple too. Clips & press studs & little swivelly knobs which are labeled!

Tyson86 · 09/08/2010 19:47

Nymph I like your buggy, did you get the carrycot?

nymphadora · 09/08/2010 22:24

Yes. And it's v light! Could carry it even in my verytiredhadalongdayatworkandtoopregnanttogoupstepsphase

BionicEar · 09/08/2010 22:25

Dilly - yes experiencing the same with nipples! think it a fore runner of milk maybe?!

Another here for cloth nappies - motherease, and we used the Nature nappies when going far from home as was awkward to take real nappies when visiting people overnight.

Wriggly Bump is certainly being that tonight!

Elsa123 · 10/08/2010 08:35

Morning all- congratulations on your purchase Nymp- i am very pleased for you. I'd never heard of the mountain buggy- I'm going to look it up in case the problem i've spotted with the Spin turns out to be a batch manufacturing fault.

I'm impressed with all the wipes/nappy knowledge. I've got some organic ones cotton nappy thingummies and some disposable wipes as I really hadn't thought about making up my own. not that I thought I couldn't- it just never occurred to me! Aren't you all clever?! what are the wipe solution cubes Hermya? They sound rather nifty.

tiredfeet · 10/08/2010 08:40

hello all! dh finally has some time off after a very manic few months so I'm busy supporting him by being lazy too Grin. Yesterday I was about to pester him to help me do something but when I looked into the living room he was all curled up and immersed in a baby book, so I tiptoed away Smile

nymph well done on finding a buggy that met all your criteria, must be a big relief!

I've got some resuable wipes too, think they're a really good idea at least for at home. I've bought some cotton wool for the hospital though as they said we had to take it, and I figure for the first few days I might not feel like using them. I've also bought some natural disposable wipes just in case too. It feels a bit mad getting all I figure then I can slowly get used to the baby and gently ease myself into reusables. I'm planning to do the same with nappies and start off for a couple of weeks with disposables, but then I'm really keen to use re-usables, so thank you for all that info Hermya I'm very impressed! Need to get organised and buy some now...

Dh has got bit work thing he would like to do on my due date and the following day. He will be able to organise a back up person to stand in for him if baby has just arrived / is in the process of arriving, but am I silly to say he can do it if there's no sign of anything happening at that point? he could be up to 2 hours away from home at times. He will be fine if I say no, but I help out a lot with his work too so I think I want him to do it as much as he does, if that makes sense? Also, should I arrange for a friend to come and hang out with me those days if he does go, just in case anything starts happening, or is that being over cautious? I think its the main thing I'm finding hard about the birth at the minute, that its so hard to plan around when there's quite a wide band of time when it could happen.

ivy wow I didn't realise you had to start sorting nurseries as early as now Shock. I'm still not sure whether / how much I will go back to work, but a big factor will be whether I can find child care that I am happy with. It wouldn't be until June time next year so I assumed I wouldn't need to think about it for ages, you've got me worried now!
