Need to have a trip out to Mothercare then. Anyone know what the Carlisle one is like? It's a better drive than Preston? About 2+ hours to either but I know Preston is an out of town one. Really not up to a day out either. Am stuck on the bed at the moment

Just chased up my Physio appt ( wondered how long an urgent one would take.) they can't find it

OP posts:
Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 12:05

Thats pants Nymph. No idea about the Carlisle one, but perhaps you check returns policy, order it, try it at home and send it back if you don't like it?

sam12 · 05/08/2010 12:08

Nymph I agree with Elsa. We have got the spin too and it is brill; folds up really small and feels really sturdy for the cobbles! That is pants about your appointment- they are useless.

Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 12:12

Here's a review of the spin for you Nymph here.

nymphadora · 05/08/2010 12:15

Got appt, think crying onthe phone worked tu pm after consultant appt

OP posts:
shieldbug · 05/08/2010 12:22

nymph well done on getting the appt sorted. Crying works wonders!

nymphadora · 05/08/2010 12:23

What are the wheels like on the spin? Look like solid ones in the picture?

OP posts:
Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 12:42

They are solid, but rubberised and with springs, so there's suspension which was one of my key requirements.

Well done on getting your appointment!

nymphadora · 05/08/2010 13:00

Ah sounds better than it looked. Getting a bit disheartened over the whole thing

A job for your DH me thinks! my DH has been tasked with carseat (box ticked) and monitor. As he's an engineer, the monitor thing is interesting him, but he's now thinking of making his own....

He's also volunteered to make a breast pump as he made one years ago for his SIL reversing am aquarium pump flow....I've said no.

AbFabT · 05/08/2010 14:09

Elsa, yes, we ordered the Amby! Really glad to know you have yours up and are so happy with it! Are you also planning on co-sleeping? We're aiming to mainly co-sleep, but use the hammock if our baby needs a nap in the day when I don't. What colour did you get - we went for neutral/natural/raw.

Dilly, glad you are in the clear re the mole. And what a lovely doctor you have!

Fiona, please thank your dad from me for that image!

Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 14:15

Hiya, AbFabT yes we've got the raw cotton one too. I had the urge to iron it, but resisted . It looks lovely. The only faff my DH had putting it together was the spring, but for taking it down, that part would stay in one assembled piece so its sorted and there's a safety lanyard in the extremely unlikely event the spring fails (its really sturdy). I'm not planning to co-sleep as I haven't got a clue how I would do it safely and my DH is the world's lightest sleeper and I know he would worry excessively about it all.

The nice things about the Amby is that the stand breaks down into parts, a bit like tent poles and the bag it all fits in is significantly smaller and slimmer than standard travel cots, so we can use it for that function also.

I am slightly worried about in the first 8 weeks having the baby in an Amby in our house in Bucks and a normal crib at home in Lincs in at the weekends as I'm not sure about the adjustment from mobile to static bed. But I can always break it down.

nymphadora · 05/08/2010 14:57

elsa I more or less had give dh the pram job. I will be the one struggling if it's too bulky/ heavy though as he will be at work or will have his car which isbigger.

Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 16:12

Nymph Aim a well placed blow to a sensitive part of him and give him a dead arm which will give him the same level of capability you will have post op, so when he manhandles the pushchair he can get a true idea of your requirements.... .

Elsa123 · 05/08/2010 16:53

the Daily Mail have published an article about a product recall at Asda for sleep suits that have transfers on them here. I went onto the Asda website to look for product recalls but there was nothin mentioned.

They are white with little grey transfers on them and the problem is that the transfers can come off. Thought you all might like to know just in case you've bought any.

Hello Everyone, how are we all? Our thread moves so quickly it's hard to keep up!

Nymph I'm glad that you got your appointment sorted, crying usually works I find . We still haven't decided on a pram, partly because I am unsure of what our usage will be like. We had been thinking of iCandy Cherry and I noticed that with one of their products (Apple I think) you can buy different wheels. It comes with two largeish back wheels and two smallish front wheels. You can buy one large front wheel as an accessory which can be used instead of the two little ones, turning the pram into a three wheeler. This way you get the best of all the worlds and can change depending on where you are going!

I hadn't given birthing clothes much thought until I read back over the thread a bit. When I had DD#1 I owned a bar and restaurant and got lots of freebies from breweries. I gave brith in a guinness t-shrit that said 'The perfect body' on it. I couldn't find it when I got home and asked where it had gone. I was told that it was covered in blood and had been thrown away. I had no idea at all !!! With DD#2 I was too hot the whole time and was virtually naked at the end. Didn't ruin any t-shirts though . I don't know what I'll do this time, seems like a waste to buy anything but I don't have anything suitable (or big enough . I was more concerned about buying a nightie to wear if I stayed in hospital. PJ's are not the thing at all and are all I've got. I need somthing that it would be easy to bf in too.

Sorry for those having issues with parents and in-laws (pisey & elsa). It's so lousy to be put in those positions. I had a friend whose parents filled their house with plastic tat everytime they saw her children. She was beside herself but couldn't say anything because they helped out so much with the childcare. We laugh about in now (ten years + later!). Pisey - in my previous relationship with ExDP I had an awful time with the in-laws. They were really unpleasant and I absolutly sympathise with you. In the end we hardly saw them, I couldn't bear the upset.

Elsa & Roo - I made my fair share of work related cock-ups before the end of term. I would feel so awful that I couldn't sleep properly. People were very forgiving but I couldn't help thinking that they were saying that I wasn't the same or as good since I became pregnant .

Anyway, a very large post, have a good evening everyone, SB x

Nymph Mothercare in Carlisle was pretty good when I went, I managed to have a good old play with the Quinny and wasn't bothered at all by the shop assistants. We must have been in there about half an hour playing with the thing and wheeling it about the shop. They have the spin in there on display as well.

Dilly Glad to hear you got the mole issue sorted.

Sam I love the idea of that T-shirt.

nymphadora · 05/08/2010 20:25

Looking at Preston now as they also have a Manas and Papas. Going to try baby shop in work town first though

OMG I've just put headphones against my tummy and put Florence and The Machine on to play for LO to see what would happen.

It was so so cool, he started grooving away and wriggling like there was no tomorrow. I have such a cool kid, he likes Florence and the Machine.

floozietoozie · 05/08/2010 22:54

Elsa I like the way your mind works .

SamB bit of a career change for you - which are harder, the regulars or the students?

Dilly, that's great about the mole.

Nymph good luck with the pram hunt. I need to get a phone number for the person I think I'm buying mine from, but first I need to have a go in my friend's to check DS isn't too big. Don't know what to do if he is - I have no alternative at the moment. Also reminds me to put sling or two down on my list of stuff to get. And write a stuff to get list, maybe...

I had my scan today. There was a trainee sonographer in there, so it meant I got loads of time to see LO, which was fab. S/he is measuring big apparently, and get this bit - I'm 27+6 today, but the head is measuring 30+4 - OUCH!!!! The body was something like 29. It's no surprise though as both me and DP have big heads - again, there's only one standard they measure to which is ridiculous. They were all going on about how neat my bump was which was quite nice. I also had the cervical length measured as if it's short that can be an indication of premature delivery being likely but it was fine. I saw the consultant afterwards and she was talking about whether or not I should have steroids as a precautionary measure in case this one comes early too (they're to mature the baby's lungs if delivery is likely, and you need two lots 24 hours apart for them to be really effective. with DS, I only had one lot as he was born so quickly). She said they don't like to give them willy-nilly, so we decided instead of having a 32 week scan I'll have one at 31 weeks instead as DS came at 31+4, and if there's any sign then have them.

It's mine and DP's 15th anniversary today of when we got together, so we went out for early dinner with DS this evening. We're having a party on Saturday, and I've been cleaning a bit today, trying to make sure I don't end up doing loads on Saturday and being knackered come the evening. Must go to bed now, as pretty knackered tonight.

floozietoozie · 05/08/2010 23:28

Just a phone quickie - Abfab, where did u order your Mei Tai from and how much was it if you don't mind ne asking? Are you planning to use it from birth?

tiredfeet · 05/08/2010 23:32

floozie glad things are looking good and there's no indications of an early arrival. Can understand why you must be worried after last time. This pregnancy will feel very long to you if you do go to term though!

wow at 15 years together, lovely idea to have a party! I hope the preparations aren't too stressful. DH and I will have been together 6 years this summer, but neither of us have any idea when the anniversary is, not even which month! We both have very strong and fond memories of getting together, it was really wonderful, but it was university holidays for both of us and we were abroad for weeks on end and the months had just merged into each other!

got my first ante-natal class tomorrow afternoon and I feel weirdly nervous, I'm not sure why really. Partly because it will make it all seem more real I think, and partly because I'm a bit shy about meeting other people, but would secretly really like to make at least one friend who is due at a similar time and lives nearby. It might be unrealistic though as the classes are quite a long way from where I live annoyingly.

dilly glad you got the all clear re the mole, and glad you have such a friendly GP. My gp was pretty much jumping for joy when I went to say I was pregnant, it was lovely that he was so happy for me I guess its nice for them to have a positive appointment when they must have to deal with all sorts of things in the course of their day.

nymph I hope you manage to sort out the pram shopping, doesn't sound easy when the shops are that far away

DillyDora · 06/08/2010 09:11

Morning all! Scan sounds lovely floozie and if your baby is measuring big for dates then does it mean it matters less if you go into labour early? Or am I being really naive? I think I hadn't realised DS1 was soooo early! My DSSs are twins born at 30 weeks, so scary.

Good luck at antenatal tiredfeet, hope you meet someone nice. I've met lovely women through antenatal yoga and aqua aerobics thingy.

Right, DH has just gone away for a week - though he'll be back for the odd night here and there so expect me to be a bit tragic Wink he had been all odd for a week before going so I feel even more sad...maybe he just needs a holiday.
