My posts don't seem to be working- test

AbFabT · 03/08/2010 15:41

Happy Anniversary, Elsa!

Elsa123 · 03/08/2010 15:45

ah hah!

DillyDora · 03/08/2010 16:03

no, they're not working ELsa I can't see them at all...it may be a spy thing...did you write them in invisible ink (oooh, too much data entry, gone silly...)

lilmissmummy · 03/08/2010 16:24

So I saw the doctor and I have a machine that measures my blood sugar and I have to go back next Wednesday. Also they scanned to check the babys size and all normal yippee!

lol at the invisible ink!

Tyson86 · 03/08/2010 18:12

What happened to my post! Im blaming the toddler!

Hermya321 · 04/08/2010 07:29

Just watching the news, they're reducing the sugar in Coco pops. Do you think this will go the way of Smarties; which taste rubbish now they've taken away the e-numbers.

Lilmiss Great news about the baby.

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 09:28

Morning all, my turn to be in the grumps... I had/have a most frustrating work situation but that's really all it is, no one is being mean, it's just one of those things (someone should have done a load of data entry - they haven't - my timeline is all out of whack) but hey, I go on leave on Friday and that's that. So why am I in such a grump!? DH is all out of sorts as well, he seems so cheesed off with himself about I don't know what - everything really. Humph! I have so much to be grateful for, so many brilliant things to look forward too so...gosh! Someone slap my legs!

Hermya I am horrid food fascist lady and hate all sugary breakfast cereals with a passion so....but then I work with obese teenagers as part of my job. The food industry is every bit as sinister as the tobacco industry. If I had enough time I'd stomp off and start a thread about it...that would help my grumps

hope everyone is feeling much more chipper than me!
xx

Elsa123 · 04/08/2010 12:08

Morning all- Dilly I feel your frustration! I has irrational irritability on Sunday and was so annoyed with nothing at all, but felt really wound up. However, I will slap your legs for you if you wish .

I'm with you on the cereal thing- I normally buy own brand bran flakes because they have less sugar in them that Kellogs and my DH sprinkles his cereal with sugar anyway! I ran out and all the local Coop had were Kellogs and I swear they sparkle with as much sugar as Frosties!

I had a work related cock up today too (its the week for them clearly Roo ). I was 45 mins late for work as I took the dogs for their normal morning walk in the woods and took a wrong turn. I got totally lost and saw parts of the wood I did not know exisited (its really big- who knew? Newish to the area) and even climbed a really steep hill, but weirdly didn't descend and ended up on the same level I'd set off on....The walk ended up being 65 minutes and that was at a clip, 50 mins of which was me lost. I reckon I covered 4 miles easily. Then I had to get home, feed the dogs (informing them that this morning's walk was an exception), make my packed lunch, get changed, do my hair and drive to work. Oh well.

Ooh v.long post sorry- thank you all for your kind messages on my anniversary! We went ot Fishworks on Marylebone High Street and it was lovely. It was our 8th anniversary.

tiredfeet · 04/08/2010 12:22

hello all, sorry your in the grumps today dilly although if you leave on Friday then there really isn't long to go! is that for maternity leave? I'm not leaving till mid-september but I'm using holiday time to go very part time until then, so sort of feel like I'm gradually phasing into maternity leave.

my antenatal classes start on Friday, I feel a bit apprehensive, I think its because thats when I will have to stop being in denial about the whole 'giving birth' bit .

just realised its midday and I haven't properly got up and dressed yet eek! I have been up doing little bits of work for DH but then went back to bed with the laptop and ended up having a quick nap... I am finding though that a nap each day is massively helping, as i'm not sleeping brilliantly at night any more due to heartburn/ sore hips etc

glad you had a lovely anniversary elsa

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 12:23

Thanks Elsa bit stingy on the legs but it's probably a good thing, gosh you spies are roughty toughty

LOL at your lost walk - where are you? I've got lovely North London woods near me but they're not big...

Seriously, don't get me started on b'fast cereals...don't eat them kids! Have an egg!

shieldbug · 04/08/2010 12:29

dontstopmenow It's so frustrating, isn't it? Still, I suppose I have been getting government money in the form of my grant all this time, so shouldn't complain really.

elsa sounds like quite an adventure this morning. Didn't you have your spy navigational devices with you? . Glad to hear you had a good anniversary celebration. congrats on your 8th!

dilly I liked your mouse dream! I've been having wierd dreams recently. The other night I dreamt about giant gold and greenfinches and last night I dreamt a horse was driving a speedboat!

lilmiss good news that the baby is growing normally.

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 13:13

and my aaankles are sweeeeellliiiiing....waaaaah!

And for anyone who has to look at columns of data ever... I was all befuddled about what to do about missing values, had spent hours trying to be clever with the stats package, only to find I was looking at the wrong s*dding column.

As my DSS says, it's not fair that I have to work while I'm pregnant....

piesey · 04/08/2010 13:23

Hi everyone

Back properly now but still not caught up on all the news so please bear with me!

Survived the rest of the US trip with my hellish MIL. Can't remember who asked but no she's not American, she's British. It all came to a bit of a head in the last couple of days and DH had a bit of a word with them - he got incredibly upset (to the point of crying) as they were really rude to him. Then they dropped a bombshell saying they were thinking of retiring to the US next year to 'be near their grandchildren when their daughter and husband (who just got married) have kids.' So, forget the baby we are having, they are moving to be near two people who have literally just got married, who may or may not have children! I mean, I'm sure they will have kids but frankly I was pretty upset and DH is livid. I knew SIL was pretty manipulative but really I had no idea that them moving was even a possibility. Humph!

Still on to more positive things - I'm 28 weeks today and can't believe I'm finally in the third trimester! Got my Anti D injections tomorrow and another can next Tuesday so looking forwward to that.

Hope everyone else is ok!
xx

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 13:27

Jaysus piesy I can't believe your PIL, your DH must be devastated! O s*d them, let them go to the US and leave you with only nice people around you. Really on your behalf (need an emoticon with steam coming out of the ears!)

Congrats on the 28 weeks though - hurray!

tiredfeet · 04/08/2010 13:57

ohhh piesey what a trip for you, you must be feeling shattered after dealing with all of that. And your poor DH how awful when its his parents. What a dreadful way to behave I agree with dilly though, just try and focus on all the good people you do have around you, and maybe if they are going to be that nasty, it is best if they are the other side of the atlantic. But sad for your child to have their grandparents so far away.

Elsa123 · 04/08/2010 14:47

I agree with tiredfeet piesey, it sounds like the separation of the pond will be a good thing- let them inflict themselves on others!!

I live near Great Missenden Dilly. I got lost once before, but that was in some woods at Bradenham and I new that my destination was west so I followed the setting sun.

Today I could have done the same by heading east if the sun had been out, but it was overcast and I did not have a compass to hand...damn.

Piesey congratulations on 28 weeks! I'm 30 weeks tomorrow, can't believe it! The Anti-D injection for me was fine- its a lot of fluid though, so it takes a while to go in, but was not painful at the time or after. The practice nurse was wonderful. It went into the muscle at the top of my arm, the same place the TB vaccine goes in.

DH away tonight, but he's dropped into Mothercare at Bristol and we now have a car seat! We were having a right old faff trying to get one and am pleased that we have the last very essential piece of the jigsaw puzzle. I just need some stuff for me now, nighties etc for the birth. eek!

shieldbug · 04/08/2010 15:00

piesey what a dreadful time. It must be really hard for your dh too. If your pil hardly commented on your baby and obviously didn't try to look after your needs when pg, exposing you to stress and all sorts of other stuff, it sounds like they won't be that great after it's born anyway. A bit of distance may be ideal as hopefully absence will make the heart grow fonder and ensure that meetings with your LO and its gparents will be more pleasant. Hope it all works out for the best.

dilly I sympathise about the data analysis-I've been working on my stats recently and I swear it's taken me twice as long as normal. Trouble is, I need to think to finish my PhD, which seems a bit optimistic at the moment!

piesey · 04/08/2010 15:00

Thanks for all your support! I feel much better now I am back home (although in the process of packing boxes to move as well!). I have a great family - my parents are quite old now so don't get involoved much with their grandchildren, but this wilol be their tenth GC so there are lots of cousins to play with and Aunties and Uncles so I know that we have some grat support around us.

Elsa thanks for letting me know about the Anti-D - I actually had no idea about what it might be other than a quick injection - I feel a bit more prepared now!

When we move house I am going to get on and start getting some things for this poor baby - apart from a couple of things I knitted everything else is at othe people's houses so it will be good to actually get them.

Oh I did get my Health in pregnancy grant paid too which was a nice surprise!

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 15:02

See - that following the sun stuff...spies do that Elsa

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 15:07

ooh tiredfeet I missed your post, no, maternity leave doesn't start till Oct 8th, this is just using up a/l before end of August...nice tho!

Elsa123 · 04/08/2010 15:29

Yes Dilly, so does Ray Mears.....!

ARGHHHHHH My parents! all nice intentions but ARGHHHHHHH!

My sister experienced that my parents bought really dreadful cheap tat for her children so she now works round it by asking them for something specific from a specific place iyswim. So, my parents bought her a baby sheepskin from John Lewis and said they would buy the same for me (i hadn't actually asked for one, but hey). Working on my sister's philosophy we sent my parents a link to a sheepskin from mothercare that fits into the pram we have, has holes for the straps to come through and is fully washable and will not break the bank, winner.

So what have they done, gone to Cleethorpes today into an independent baby shop and bought a German sheepskin thats 'soo much cheaper than the Mothercare one'. Of course its cheaper, I bet its tat. I asked them for the website and they told me, I went onto it and could not find the sheepskin, so I rang the shop and the guy said that 'there was no point putting the sheepskin on the website' why the hell not?! and said in a really patronising voice, of course it comes with holes for pushchair straps. Lovely man.

They also got me a parasol for the pushchair. In cream. They said they would buy the Spin accessories for me, parasol and changing bag. Now I have a cream parasol and a black and green pushchair. I know I sound ungrateful but I get this sooo often, they go out and buy something and are really pleased with themselves for the knock down bargain and its naff. I'd much rather they told me to go out and get my own stuff rather than telling me they'll get something then not doing it!

I suppose that all sounds a little unreasonable.....

DillyDora · 04/08/2010 15:36

Elsa stop trying to put us off the scent, we know you're not Ray Mears, he's not pregnant....

Nah, YANBU, annoying about the parasol... maybe the fleece is lovely?

Elsa123 · 04/08/2010 16:00

Yeah, I 'm hoping that the chip as chips sheepskin is lovely so haven't made any comment. But i did make my DH proud by saying to my parents that I did not want to sound ungrateful but I didn't want a cream parasol, for the reasons stated below...

They said fine (not fine as in fine but find as in FINE THEN!) and said they would use it instead...
