Elsa I usually have some cereal before going to bed to avoid that very thing - I also find if I'm a bit hungry I get twitchy legs more easily. Last time round, I have strong memories of getting up to eat Rice Krispies at 2am or so.

Shieldbug - when DS was still just a day or two old and in his incubator, and I hadn't even HELD him at that stage, I was getting strong thoughts about grandchildren... now that is getting ahead of oneself!

Moonstorm I would be with you on the side of caution wrt exercise and previous prematurity. Gently is definitely the way to go.

Ivy at your exercise routine. I can't imagine having that much energy!!!!

I had my 25 week check today, all fine, and I got my HIP form too, yay. The mw gave me some details about NHS classes available and as well as a one-day active birth/parentcraft session, which I don't think I really need, they offer once a month class for breathing, relaxation and exercise techniques for birth and after, and breastfeeding advice sessions, so I will sign up for those two. I'm doing a one-day labour refresher for second-timers with the NCT, so between all of that it should get me in the zone .

We're off to Jersey tomorrow, and as yet the case is still unfinished. In fact, some of the clothes are still drying. I've been very stupid and misplaced my driving licence, so I had to make emergency calls to the DVLA and the car hire company to make sure I could still go ahead without it. Turns out the company will just ring the DVLA and check my credentials for £5. Am really hoping it's that straightforward cos I've paid for the car now! Must be more organised.... I'm also slightly worried because my licence still has my mum's address on it from when I left home 20 years ago as I've never changed it. Oops. Must be more organised....

floozietoozie · 21/07/2010 23:32

Also - has anyone seen anything of Xavielli around the place? She's gone quiet on here.

floozietoozie · 21/07/2010 23:43

Shieldbug - forgot to ask, what happened to your last washer/dryer? I really want a dryer but we have no room in the kitchen so a separate one would need to go in the attic bedroom probably. DP is very anti, and I'd have my work cut out to persuade him to put one up there. I've not heard good things about combined w/d though - what one are you getting now?

tiredfeet · 22/07/2010 00:30

hello all, I have been having a very busy week feel like I have had a lot of reading to do to catch up...

floozie we had a washer dryer and it was actually fine, I didn't use it very much for tumble drying but when I did need to it did a reasonable job actually.

hermya feeling for you on the not being able to exercise front, I try and do something (walk/ swim) every day and don't like it if I can't for some reason.

I had a hormonal moment yesterday and got upset about how much we still needed to get for baby, I had done lots of research on the internet but we hadn't had a chance to get round to going to the shops. I started to feel like a terrible mother for not having got organised and started weeping on DH's shoulder Anyway DH took me today and we have now got the car seat, pram and quite a lot more clothes and bits . We went for the britax baby safe SHR with an isofix base, DH wasn't sure about the isofix thing being worth the money until he saw the demonstration and heard what the mothercare lady had to say (which was exactly what I had said but he didn't quite believe me ), after he'd seen it in action his mind was totally made up. We also got the britax b-smart pram as I really loved it and luckily so did DH (although I may have guided his views ever so gently ). We got the carrycot too even though I'm not sure its strictly necessary as the seat folds almost flat, but I really liked the idea of having a proper pram. DH was pretty annoyed at the way they give you a price for a pram then almost everything is an 'extra' (even the rain cover, which I would have thought was essential!), but I did try and explain this too him before we got to the shop (I suspect he was thinking about something more interesting!)

I had a bit of a dramatic monday as I suddenly became breathless and it reached the point where I felt like I was suffocating and I nearly fainted. DH got me lying down and that made it better, and the doctor said I should come it to be checked over. Luckily their tests showed nothing wrong except very low blood pressure, and that had improved back to my normal (which is still low but in the healthy levels) but the afternoon which was a relief. I have discovered one of the causes, for me, is sitting at an angle, so I now have to sit bolt upright which is a bit annoying but worth it to not faint!

glad to see I'm not the only one needing nighttime cereal!

Hermya321 · 22/07/2010 06:33

Is anyone else on here not feeling hungry at all at the moment? I'm really finding that a piece of toast does me at the moment and after that I really don't feel like eating anymore. I figured it was just baby swishing my tummy though.

Tired Glad to hear you've gotten sorted on the baby front. My DH's eyes start glazing over when I start talking about baby stuff, I think he goes to his happy place.

Floozie Yay for a good 25 week check . I hope your holiday goes well though.

Any news from Nymph? not heard from her for a few days.

Elsa123 · 22/07/2010 07:45

Morning all- I feel like a slice of toast is enough at the moment too, despite the night hunger as I'm getting full really easily and its harder to identify when I am hungry in the first place because my stomach is being squished! I go from fine to feeling faint in a second!

sam12 · 22/07/2010 09:12

Elsa I am wanting that pram too. My DH thinks its a bit too expensive but I can see how much pram talk bores him so am hoping he will just give in to stop me talking about them!!

I swing from one extreme to another with food one day a piece of toast will leave me stuffed and then the next day I could eat the whole loaf

Hope you are feeling better today tired

tiredfeet · 22/07/2010 11:19

sam I liked the look of the spin pram too. If you sign up to mothercare's baby club (just a free marketing thing) you'll get a voucher for I think £15 or £20 off a pram which at least might help you a bit with persuading DH. Though the plan to bore him till he gives in is a good tactic too

I'm also finding that some days I'm not all that hungry at all; but other days and at night sometimes I have moments when I'm sooo hungry. definitely finding baby is reducing stomach space now and having to eat smaller portions and more often. Although I did somehow find room for a huge ice cream sundae after lunch out with DH yesterday, I figure it contains calcium (and erm chocolate) so that counts as healthy

shieldbug · 22/07/2010 11:46

tiredfeet I like your logic regarding the scoffing of icecream. May I add that many icecream flavours are fruity, so surely that counts towards one of your 5-a-day?! I didn't know about the voucher with the baby club, so will add that to my list of baby clubs to join. Glad to hear that the fainting was just due to blood pressure. Take it easy and I hope it doesn't happen again.

floozie glad your check went well. At least I haven't had thoughts about grandchildren yet, maybe that will happen soon! The tumble drier basically packed up because it was so old. Dh got it from his Granny about 5 years ago, and it had seen good service with her previously. The new one is a hotpoint combined washer and drier, but I don't know what it is like yet. After lots of floods yesterday, dh and my bil got it all connected and after an empty first run (according to the instruction manual) the first load is in as we speak! I'll let you know what I think of it. I hope to be able to dry most things outside eventually, but at the mo, I can't leave stuff out because it is guaranteed to rain before I get home (bless NI weather!). When I am at home, I can run and rescue it before it gets too wet.

sam12 · 22/07/2010 11:50

Oo thanks tired will get myself signed up. It is his favourite one too so am sure he can be persuaded. I am sure that an ice cream sundae can be classed as healthy eating

Am supposed to be cleaning out my classroom today ready for my replacement but I keep getting distracted on here and it feels wierd knowing that I won't be returning. It is making everything seem so real. (when I come back from my maternity the school is closing to join with another)

lilmissmummy · 22/07/2010 14:46

Hi all,
Still feeling rubbish - think I've had some sort of fluey type thing!

Very jealous of all the exercise... I cant walk to the end of the garden without getting pain so feeling very sorry for myself. Had some tests done yesterday by the doctor to see if they can find out whats wrong and seeing the midwife tomorrow to chase up my physio appointment (have been waiting 11 weeks!!!) I have my dd off school sick today poor little thing was desperate to go to school today, was dressed and got to the gate before she burst into tears saying she felt sick she was due to go to her friends house tonight too!

The mothercare baby club is really good. Not entirely sure what I did with the paperwork though! cant seem to find anything at the moment including my brain! Loved the spin it was our first choice until we fell in love with the icandy!

Sam12 I bet you feel a bit sad packing up for good.

I swing from starving to not being able to eat at all too. But have tried to eat little and often - otherwise I forget to eat and then start to feel sick.

Going to start an aquanatal class next week hopefully if I am well enough! Really looking forward to it.

AbFabT · 22/07/2010 16:57

tiredfeet, wow, that's some mammoth shop you did there! Well done!
Hope you are feeling better and have no more light-headed spells.
lilmiss too, hope they work out what's up with you and fix it quickly.

sam12, my view on prams (so you can tell your DH) is, with many things, you get what you pay for. If you go for a higher-spec one, it should last you for subsequent children if you have any, and also sell-on value should be slightly higher too.

My pram arrived today! VERY happy! If it is possible to love an inanimate object, I love this pram!!! I know it's early, and will take up space in our already-crammed home, but I didn't want to risk it being late!

lilmissmummy · 22/07/2010 17:31

Thanks AbFab I am very jealous that you have got your pram already... I have to wait until September!!

You should post some pictures of it so that we can all have a look and be jealous!

AbFabT · 22/07/2010 17:36

*lilmiss, this is the one: www.stokke.com/en-gb/stroller.aspx - we have it in the green.

Hermya321 · 22/07/2010 19:09

Abfab Did you do what I did? I put mine up as soon as it was out of the box and put the big teddy bear in it that hangs around in our spare room. The bear looked quite content in it.

I have had such a tiring day filled with the oddest people. I think I must have attracted them today, stranger and stranger. Oh well, I'm home now and DH has made me a cuppa. All is well with the world.

lilmissmummy · 22/07/2010 19:11

oooh it is sooo lovely!! I am not showing it the dh as he will want to change his mind again1

AbFabT · 22/07/2010 21:36

Hermya, no, we have a bit of work to do to the house before October, so we're keeping it in the box to keep it safe for now! Bless your excitement with getting yours out and homing the bear!

Thanks, lilmiss.

Hermya321 · 23/07/2010 06:40

Abfab Oh I didn't know you were doing up your house, are you doing anything exciting? Or is just more baby proofing the place?

Elsa123 · 23/07/2010 08:26

Morning everyone- got my first anti-D injection in half an hour...

And I finally have been allocated a new midwife! Not organised by the old midwife as previously tried by the practice manager; this one got a letter from the matron midwife outpatient services about me- I wonder what it said 'watch out for this one, she complains'....I have an appointment with her at home next tuesday and she sounded very professional and business like on the phone, which is better than Fannyfnackerpants my previous midwife.

Congratulations on getting that pushcahir AbFabT! Which one did you get Hermya? I like the idea of the teddy sat in it. I'm having carpets fitted upstairs in the middle week of august and the same people are coming up next week to measure up for black out blinds across all the front upstairs windows of the house, so that will be more stuff done in preparation! I have asked for the blind in the nursery to let not one chink of light through as its east facing and gets pretty blinding morning sun.

I was originally interested in the Stokke too, then I thought that being a predominantly countryside person who needs to be out dog walking twice daily, the high centre of gravity may be a bit of an issue over rutted ground. I saw one at the Eden Project the other day and my DH thought it looked like some kind of alien bug. Its definitely funky and I can see it would be great in the city above all the exhaust fumes. We both really liked the spin and its the only pushcahir i have any feelings for whatsoever.

My DH was really pleased I actually liked something as he was getting worried that my lack of interest in baby shopping meant that I'd reject our baby! ( I think he's thinking along the lines of hamsters rejecting their litters....). Just because I'm not an ardent fan of shopping!

RooBear · 23/07/2010 10:13

Morning, jealous of all you getting prams, so far we've painted the nursery and bought cuddly toys! nothing practical yet. We are still trying to get the kitchen updated, has anyone installed a chimmney hood/ extactor fan on their own? once thats done its just the splasback and walls to paint. Well done on the new midwife elsa ! (love the description of your last one )

Elsa123 · 23/07/2010 11:18

Yes, I have installed a central one that sits over the island unit. We were lucky as we built the house, so we were able to run the ducting from scratch, but the real pain was the hose that runs to the outside was quite fragile and split when bent, so we has to use a super sticky black tape to stick it back together. We then got a flap vent for outside, so the extractor smoke etc blew out but nothing could get in. The extractor was a neff one we got on Ebay and picked up from a very dodgy housing estate in Doncaster!

I had my anti D jab- there's a lot of it to go into one arm, but is was not that bad and I'm fine now and my arm doesn't ache at all- just to reassure anyone who is due to have it. Next one will be at 34 weeks.

Hermya321 · 23/07/2010 11:40

Elsa we've gone and got the Quinny buzz in black, I really like it and I can't wait for LO to get here so I can put him in it. Plus it fits into our boot which is about the size of a small envelope.

Elsa123 · 23/07/2010 12:02

Aah! I've just googled the Quinny buzz and it looks really cute, like a proper pram but more dinky. I think for me the front wheels would be a little too small- still liking the idea of getting the Spin. If I could go back in time and tell my 20 week pregnant self that i'd finally gathered some enthusiasm for baby stuff, she'd be shocked!

AbFabT · 23/07/2010 12:21

Hermya, there's lots needs doing, but we're aiming to just get the lounge and bedroom carpets ripped out and put wood flooring in for now. Would love to revamp the whole place, but will take a bit of time.

Would like to get the sash windows redone, and then get some blackout roller/Roman blinds. But flooring first.

Glad your jab went ok, Elsa.

Tyson86 · 23/07/2010 13:32

AbFab love the buggy
Hermya I was looking a the Quinny Buzz, loved the way it folds up and down.

We have picked up the Graco Vivo Travel system with carrycot, quite big though.

Currently decorating bedroom and got to get a nice new carpet ready for the homebirth, its so exciting atm.

Managed to sort money out for a 4D scan at 32 weeks, then got a bank charge so may have to cancel AGAIN
