Anybody else still working? KILL ME NOW.

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 15:07

Jessysmummy - I find sleeping on my right side so much more comfortable than on my left, so seem to spend more time on my right than on my left - naughty.

Perenial massage - have thought about it, and bought some almond oil. Does that count? To be honest, not entirely sure that I could reach that far...

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 15:08

Katts - me (although don't think you could really call it work at this stage...!!). And have to confess that tomorrow is my last day .

bubbles2904 · 22/08/2005 15:12

why? are we not supposed to sleep on our right side? never heard this before. does anyone know the reason why?

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 15:14

Katts - me too, though am spending far too much time on MN as have been winding down since...errr...about April!!. Finish Thursday though and am glad as it is getting too difficult making myself look busy!
KF - reason I asked was that I've been giving it a go though not sure if I'm doing it right. Someone posted a link ages ago to a site on how to do it properly and that sounded far too complicated. I tried it last time as well and only had 2 very small tears so will probably persevere.

Katts · 22/08/2005 15:14

Friday is mine. Don't think I can make it to the end of this day - let alone the week! And why oh why is my office in the non-ventilated basement of our "achitecturally designed" building??? And why oh why do I have to sit next to really petite, cold natured, wimpy little wisps of girls who insist on turning the air conditioning off because they're "freezing"???

I think my blood pressure has just risen.

Katts · 22/08/2005 15:18

bubbles - supposed to lie on left side to get the baby to lie on that side because it's easier for it to get out. Or somethin'.

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 15:19

Katts - I am with you on the air con issue. Especially as said wimpy little wisps insist on sitting around in strappy singlet tops, instead of wearing layers that they can add/remove as required . If I took off any more clothes it would be positively indecent!!

Bubbles - sleeping on the left side is supposed to be best for blood flow to the placenta, and is apparently best for optimal fetal positioning too.

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 15:21

Katts - Don't they have a collective cardy they could put on? I think that your need is greater than theirs!
Bubbles - something to do with cutting off the blood supply??? See I'm making myself uncomfortable at night and I don't even know why !

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 15:24

Phew, thank goodness, a legitimate reason for making myself uncomfortable for the last 8 months!

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 15:26

Katts - LOL at "because it's easier for it to get out. Or somethin'". As if the baby will wake up one morning and just merrily clamber down out of the bed...we wish .

Katts · 22/08/2005 15:38

Well I guess there's easy, then there's easy. Like it might be easy to throttle wimpy little cold natured wisps of girls...

LadyLazarus · 22/08/2005 15:44

Re: the perineal massage - I tried it a couple of times, and ended up squashing my torso so much I felt like I could hardly breathe! Perhaps I didn't quite have the right position hehe haven't attempted it since, as it was possibly the most uncomfortable thing I've ever done! Still feel like I should give it another go tho, just so hard to reach!

My 'funny pain' is just constant now, but have resigned myself to just get on with it. V. exciting those who appear to be having contractions etc. The battle for September baby number two has begun!!

Right! I'm off to have my first raspberry leaf tablets!

ych · 22/08/2005 16:25

Welcome Smiling.
Re perenial massage: I've been 'dabbing on' grapeseed oil down there but not been doing the massage bit. Two of my friends done that and it seemed to work, so that's what I'm doing!
Midwife was round today and confirmed she could only feel 2/5 of the head so that's good. Good luck to all the girlies that sound like they're about to go into labour - very exciting! I've juts been painting skirting boards in the baby's room so need a wee lie down and a cup of tea now.
Take care everyone.

Redhelen · 22/08/2005 16:46

Right that's it - I've finished in Babys room. Just need to try and keep on top of cleaning and washing and I'll be ready (who am I kidding!)

Going for a lay down!

pooka · 22/08/2005 17:00

Part of me is amlost wishing was going into hospital for birth now (not that I can't change my mind at any stage) simply because the effort of keeping house straight until some theoretical time that I go into labour is too arduous. Have decided that as soon as things kick off, day or night, am going to send dh round the house picking stuff up, hoovering, making up bed, getting clean linen ready for afterwards and finishing off hospital bag. He just doesn't know it yet.
My oooomphing phase is officially over now. Could just sleep and sleep and sleep. feel most lethargic.
Dropped off request for prescription of pethidine at the surgery just now. Was told will take 48 hours to be written, so hopefully nothing'll happen till I have that Class A drug safely stashed in my fridge. I know it's unlikely that it'll be used, with luck, if I manage to hold off getting midwives round until latter stages and obviously wouldn't want to risk having a sleepy baby at home, but I think it may be reassuring to know that it's THERE.

franch · 22/08/2005 18:26

Oh pooka, I do relate about the homebirth thing! Def not worth going into hosp for tho!

Just bumped the thread re. the London meetup next week - everyone still up for it (barring surprises)?

Welcome to the chattiest antenatal thread Smiling.

Zoe and Bubbles - Got my fingers crossed for you hope everything goes ok as it sounds as though you are both in early labour (now i feel gealous as I have had enough and want this baby out.).

STM - How are you? we haven't heard from you in ages. Did the wedding go ok?

Milward - loads of hugs with regard to the cramp it is really uncomfy.

Andif - Naughty you putting those shelves up hope your back gets better soon. Look after yourself.

Katts - ((hugs)) Only 4 days left at work honey. Throw a blanket at your whisps and tell them to grow up!!!!!

Redhelen - Congrats on finishing the baby's room now put your feet up please!!!!!!

I am now going to ignore all my good advice to everyone else re resting and try to get some housework done whilst dh is visiting his dad and dd is fast asleep.

Daisydot · 22/08/2005 19:39

I am new to mumsnet but really enjoying reading all your mail, because I can relate to so much of what you say.

My baby is due on 17 September, at Kingston Hospital. I am booked into the active birthing centre there because I want an active birth this time around.

Finding it hard to sleep because of fidgety legs. As soon as I lie down at night I feel as if I am running a marathon, my legs get filled with energy even though my mind and body wants to sleep! Lucky that DH is sleeping in the spare room next door. There isn't enough room any more with me, bump and all those pillows, not to mention those hot muggy evenings we've had.

Good luck to all of you on the brink of labour. How exciting. I have just over 4 weeks to go and am giving up work (p/t work) next Wednesday. Hip, Hip, Hooray!

K7 · 22/08/2005 20:00

Hi Ladies, hope you don't mind if I join your thread too - I'm due 31st August and think I'm going to be late. Have been lurking on the August thread, but most of the gals posting there have had their babies now , and I need some solidarity - getting depressed thinking I could still be pregnant in three weeks time! My hospital won't induce for two after the due date. Any one else waking up ravenous at 4.00 in the morning?

sarahhal · 22/08/2005 20:20

Hi and welcome K7, Smiling, Daisy. Sounds like we are all getting to that antsy stage doesn't it!! Any slight twinge or pain and I'm wondering ooh is this it. I keep catching myself thinking "If i had a quick labour like last time and I started now I could have a baby by teatime/the morning/ bedtime etc..." But I still can't accept that it could happen any time now and that soon there will be four of us!

Am still dithering over my birth plan and think I will just have to see how it goes. On one hand I really would love to just get an epidural ASAP but the other voice in my head says well you mangaged last time without but then I think but boy did it hurt!!! If I don't focus on it then I worry that I won't be prepared but if I do think about it then I worry I'm getting myself worked up! Aaah!!

Zubb- how's the building going? Our builders buggered off today all day due to rain except it was glorious sunshine all afternoon! I really can't believe I'm going to have a baby in this building site of a house!

Good luck anyone who's having possible beginnings of labour!

mummyhill · 22/08/2005 20:28

Welcome to Daisydot and K7.

Have done some of the housework now am having a well deserved rest. Should be cooking dinner for when DH gets in but cannot be bothered might send him to get takeout!!!!

pooka · 22/08/2005 21:08

Hi there Daisydot and K7. Hope you're both feeling well.
I've just made the mistake of weighing myself.
Thought I was doing well this time, but have put on just over 3 stone (42 pounds) and that doesn't take into account that I was about a stone and a half over my pre-dd weight when I conceived. Still - last time I did put on 4 and a half stone, so am not quite as bad as before. She says trying to convince herself.

Redhelen · 22/08/2005 21:29

Hello Daisydot and K7 -

So much of me aches! - The midwife said to focus on a part of the body that dosn't - so that will be my left ear! Been busy conveincing my self that this will be a very quick labour, but I'd love to know how longs left 1 or 21 days???

Bubbles and zoe - how are you???

KiwiKate · 23/08/2005 04:59

I know what you mean, Redhelen about wanting to know how much longer to go. I guess that is why it is called "expecting". Guess we now know how kids feel in the car when they keep asking "are we there yet?"

Regarding lying on your lefthandside - it is for optimal blood flow to baby. But if baby is in a posterior position, then it is advisable to lie on the RIGHT side (with the top leg over and slightly on your tummy if you can - propped up by pillows to ensure that your weight is not on your tummy). Who knows how much difference it all makes in the end? My theory is that if I get comfortable ANYWHERE then that's where I'm staying.

Anyone heard from Franch? Are you lurking? I haven't seen a post from you for ages, and am getting a bit worried. Hope all is ok.

Welcome to the newbies.
