Oh I reckon it'll be AGES yet - plenty more stop/start is it/isn't it false alarms between now and then!

zoezebra · 22/08/2005 09:55

I am shattered this morning as we had a false alarm last night. Woke at 2am after dreadful braxton hicks all early eve. Went to go to the loo for normal 2am wee break and felt a gush of water!! I thought that i had not made it to the loo on time and was suffering with complete incontinence.....but then managed to do a very long wee accompanied by a lightening feeling around my bump. Called DH who woke from slumber saying it was probably nothing!! I was not convinced so rang the hospital birth centre who told me to come in. 3am and we were at the hospital hooked up to a monitor and the midwife confirmed that I was having contractions but not regular enough to be in labour. Was kept in til 4.30am and then discharged. Very scary as had two internal exams (not pleasant) and then told that they did not think that it was worth inducing me -I refused to have this done unless the baby was in stress. Also told - contradictory to the male midwife on Friday that the baby was head down but back to back...I just give up and am not going to stress about where the baby is until am in proper labour.
Got home at 5.30am and dd woke at 6.15am full of beans and oblivious to our night. Have got no energy and need to sleep . Still think it was my waters but would of been getting contractions if it had been, so who knows? Different to first time round as all very straight forward, period pains, followed by show then waters went - textbook. Sounds like I was not the only one who had a bad night. Hope you are all okay?

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 10:43

Flippin' 'eck! It's all happening. Looks like the race is on for Sept thred baby #2 and we're not even in sept yet! Good luck to all with pains and contractions...how exciting!
Sounds like little Lemmy is settling in just fine, moschops!
Sorry to hear that so many of you are struggling to sleep. I'm still not doing too badly in that area (touch wood) but still 4.5 weeks to go so plenty of time for sleeplessness.
Last week at work - hurrah! If only from the point of view that I will no longer have an excuse (except this whopping great big lump strapped to my front) for not getting house ready for baby.
Went to visit PILs at weekend. We didn't even get the chance to broach the subject of them not coming to visit after baby arrives before they announced that they have bought a £25k camper van (even though they are constantly strapped for cash!) and will be coming to visit in that. Well good luck to them because it's not going to fit on our drive, in fact they'll struggle to get it halfway down out road. suppose this solves the dilemma of them being in our house when we are trying to have a dignified homecoming for baby, so I'm relatively happy, though still uncomfortable knowing that they will be in the vacinity instead of their usual (safe) 2.5 hours drive away. DH is happy, though as he didn't even have to open his mouth!
Oh, have finally managed to get my hospital bag packed - mine and baby's, though I keep remembering things that I might need so will probably need a forklift truck to actually get it to the hospital when the time comes!

andif · 22/08/2005 11:06

It's all happening! Good Luck Zoezebra - I had a similar thing with ds1 - definite gush of water but midwives weren't convinced waters had broken - just forewaters or something... then went into proper labour next day, so you'll prob have it soon!!
Had dreadful night here - ended up sleeping upside down for some strange reason. Back is so sore today - dog walk took ages Have allowed kids free rein over tv today so I can have a slobby day. All stuff for bag is in a pile, but no energy to pack it! Had a bit of a nesting weekend - made dh weed the front garden and plant some stuff in the back - had to instruct him what to weed, but he said he quite enjoyed it!! Didn't get round to putting up shelves in baby room though. If I had more energy I'd do it myself today, but looking unlikely..

bubbles2904 · 22/08/2005 11:12

morning everyone, i'm still here just been resting. lol, any excuse. have had pains for about 3 days now on and off. didn't get bh with dd and although i've been having them for about 3 and half months this time they've never been painful. had a show on saturday night and was totally scared but then read on a thread on here that it could still be a while yet. haven't phoned the maternity unit because with dd they kept me in and i really don't want to go in this time until i know it's the real thing. got no energy to do anything at all. i wish i was exaggerating but not even got the energy to go to the toilet half of the time. keep feeling sick or being sick and have also got the trots.
SORRY RANT OVER!!!!
hope everyone else is ok,

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 11:12

Hope you get a chance to have a nap sometime today Zoezebra - sounds like you had a very eventful night!

We got our car seat on Saturday, a very generous gift from BIL and SIL, so that's another thing to tick off our list.

Tomorrow is my last day at work - really looking forward to it, but it will be weird not having to get up in the morning! Still waiting for the nesting thing to kick in - did my first load of baby washing on the weekend, but that's as far as I've managed to get so far... Really must get my hospital bag sorted out too...

I have been getting up every morning at 3:30am for a trip to the loo, after which the baby kicks up a storm for a good 1/2 hour - wonder if this is an indication that there will be a 3:30am feed??

andif · 22/08/2005 11:13

Just to add, I ordered a nursing bra on Sat from ebay - it's like the bravado ones but made in Canada and only £14.99. Arrived today, and although it's not the most attractive thing in the world, it's v comfortable and practical. Made by 'YES breastfeeding, the seller is maternityandnursing so check it out if you haven't bought one yet..!! (No, I'm not on commission, just impressed by product and service! )

andif · 22/08/2005 11:15

Oooh bubbles, def sounds as if you'll have yours soon too!! This IS getting exciting!

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 11:16

Ohhh, Bubbles, isn't having the trots another sign of the onset of labour??!!! It's all sounding very promising... In the meantime, lie down and put your feet up while you've got the chance... (with occassional updates on Mumsnet for us )

bubbles2904 · 22/08/2005 11:32

i will do kiwifruit, have got dp running around after me this morning, but when i mentioned having pains last night he said he's sick of me complaining about it and that he's not bothered now until he knows it's the real thing. FFS, it must be so difficult for him listening to me moan about being tired and fed up.men, they don't know how lucky they are, getting 8 hours of uninterupted sleep per night. he even complained a couple of nights ago that he couldn't get comfortable in bed. i can't type my reply as i'd probably get banned from here LMAO

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 11:42

I would banish him to the sofa tonight Bubbles . I'm really lucky, as DH keeps offering to go and sleep in the spare bed so that I can get a decent nights sleep. Bless him. Think he's really trying to escape my snoring, which apparently has got rather bad !! In the meantime, make the most of him running around after you - I would put in my order for lunch now, if I were you!

Holymoly321 · 22/08/2005 12:00

Hi everyone, I'm 35+5 weeks and thought I'd better join the September birth thread! I've only recently found this website and so far it's been a revelation! . This is the first time round for me and though I've had a fairly easy time so far (no sickness etc) I'm really shocked at just how knackered I feel now! And at how frustrating it is not to be able to tie your own shoelaces properly, or bend down to pick up something you've dropped, and especially at how uncomfortable sleeping is! Oh, how I used to love sleeping - it was my favourite time of the day - and now I almost dread it because I know I'll be spending the whole night tossing and turning trying to control the million different cushions that are now in the bed in a pathetic attempt at trying to keep some level of comfort! I'm also from London and agree totally with the earlier posting that mw's here are so totally over stretched that I'm worried I'm not going to get the care I need. Was told last week that baby is breech and will need to be checked again in a couple of weeks, but GP doesn;t seem to care and I've got to try and book the next appt with the mw myself! Doesn't seem right to me! Anyway, I start ML next week and I can't wait! So I'll be checking out this site everyday! Good luck to anyone who goes into labour before I check back!
x

zoezebra · 22/08/2005 12:05

Think may be in early labour as now have constant backache and non painful Braxton Hicks. Scared.
Just put dd down for a sleep (thank god she is still having them), she is so clingy this morning, almost like she knows something is happening. Everyone is on red alert, so just waiting now. Probably tmi but also getting the squits each time go to the loo, another sign of labour. This is so typical as its my sisters wedding on Sat and my dd is the flowergirl. Well time will tell if its the real thing or false labour. Bored waiting though, wish I had more definate signs, I am such a control freak. I was so envious of all the women in labour at the hospital last night, I kept hearing babies crying just as they were born
Weather too too depressing, rain, rain, rain, mind you am sure we would all be complaining if it was hot.
Someone mentioned their dh being unsympathetic each night. Mine too, before I had the water incident, he kept complaining about being uncomfortable in bed and too hot and kept telling me that I think I am in labour each night (which is true, but am allowed to feel this way). I got very hormonal and started shouting abusive comments at him, about not being pregnant and he has no idea how it feels. Feel really sorry for him as he has been getting it in the neck each night and I have turned into bitch from hell these last few weeks.
Off to have a sleep incase need to conserve my energies for later.

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 12:06

Welcome Smiling! You'll find that we can chat for England on this thread . Add yourself to the stats thread here (just copy and paste the previous posting into a new posting and add your details...).

I've given up on pillows in bed - they cause more aggravation than the comfort I derive from them...

zoezebra · 22/08/2005 12:15

Welcome smiling, all that you describe is normal, sleeping was also a favourite past time of mine before I had dd. Make the most and sleep whenever you can once on ML. You'll need your energy for when baby comes.
Cushions - also gave them up at very early stages, could not stand anything touching the bump this time around. Also not enough room in the bed and feels like you have a 3rd person in there with you!!
Re. mw, totally a london thing. Only thing I can say is the hospital and after care are great. For some reason the pre-care is completely rubbish Just keep badgering and make sure someone sees you, its your right. Specially with a first.

Boompi · 22/08/2005 12:52

Welcome smiling.
Very exciting that some of us are looking like its all happening. I am envious as am fed up now! Even though I am only 38 weeks and logic says the baby will arrive in next 4 weeks , it does all feel like some big ruse at times...
I spent most of last week catching up with friends etc but have nothing palnned for this week so am bored. I know I will want this time back when I am sleep deprived in coming months but I am just not used to not having something to do.

pooka · 22/08/2005 13:07

Hello Smiling. Welcome to a very busy thread!
Ive also got a bit of an upset tummy but alas I blame that on the unsuitable food I'm eating - trifle, and anything fatty is good at the moment. Have dreadful water retention - my thighs are just revoltingly swollen and puffy. Yuk.
Still getting slight pains. Last time dd went quite quiet before the birth, and I ended up being monitored. This baby seems incredibly active in comparison, which makes me think I've got a while yet. Didn't get a show last time until my waters broke, when I was about 4cm dliated.
Very envious of those who seem further on than me. Not fair. Bags I'm next - alright!!!!!!!
Lovely midwife came earlier. Baby on right side rather than left, but she said that since would be mobile birth (at home, no epidural) that this not a problem, and I shouldn't worry about OFP until labour starts.
Back aches too, at the moment. Am going to have a nap now. Have just made chocolate brownies with dd as the weather so dreary and wet and have rather overindulged . Need to lie down!

Redhelen · 22/08/2005 13:45

Oh my word - seems like things are happening!!!

Perhaps we will have another baby soon!! Take care every one!! and I'll be crossing every thing - well anything that will cross - which isn't much these days!

Hello smiling - sorry about the lack of sleep - seems most of us are sleeping poorly now!

I have had baby pushing head right into pelvis discomfort/pain since Saturday. With odd stabing pains low down - but not contractions! Got the trots too bubbles Keep expecting waters to go - but no sign!!!
Realized earlier I'm dressing and waddling like Pat Butcher- have strong desire for large sparkly earings too!

Perhaps the rasberry leaf tea was started too early??

bubbles2904 · 22/08/2005 13:46

hi and welcome smiling, as kiwifruit says, we are usually a very chatty bunch (compared to most other groups) and don't usually moan as much, i think we could all moan for our countries at the moment lol, i think i'd win too but never mind, it's our right to moan, we all earned it. my mum just phoned and said my boss's boyfriend has asked her today if i need any big items for the baby as he wants to buy me something. i thought that was really sweet of him. he owns a window company and has had a baby vest printed with the name of his company and wants a pic of baby wearing it. i've told him if he uses it in advertising there will be a fee LOL. my babys first modelling contract ha ha ha. just kidding.feeling a little better but i'm sure i would've spoken too soon.
zoezebra, sounds like you're in early labour too. wow, this is so exciting.
stm, hope you're ok as we haven't heard from you in a while, i think that you have produced baby number 2 and can't wait to hear about him,(i know i'm jumping the gun a little) hahaha hope your sisters wedding went ok too
sorry have waffled AGAIN!!!

milward · 22/08/2005 13:50

Lack of sleep really difficult - trips to the loo every 2/3 hrs, heartburn, leg cramps & just waking up to turn over!!! - anyone else suffering this. Yesterday I slept most of the afternoon whilst dh looked after dds. Five weeks to go - or 3 if ds is born at 38 wks like dd3.

Kiwifruit · 22/08/2005 13:57

Milward - I'm due the day after you, and can sympathise with all of those symptoms, except the leg cramps...It's the waking up to roll over that does my head in!

When do you start on the raspberry leaf tea??

KiwiKate · 22/08/2005 14:05

ZoeZebra - you there? Sounds like you might well be in labour. With DS, I also had a "leak" which was considered to be "only forewaters breaking". Was monitored and told I did not have "regular" contractions and therefore could not possibly be in labour (Oh, and mw told dh that if I was in labour, I'd be yelling my head off! Very scientific test, huh?). Being my first, and not knowing any better, I did not push the issue. 6 hours later I asked to be checked again - mw nearly had a heart attack as I was fully dialated by that stage. DS was born 2 hours after that.

As I am now passed 37 weeks (the stage at which DS was born), I can have this babe at the local maternity unit rather than the big city hospital (which is absolutely horrid).

To add to the exhaustion, I've now come down with a bad dose of flu! Well, yet another excuse to take it easy!

andif · 22/08/2005 14:07

Milward - I could have written that post!! Heartburn has improved since homeopathic remedy, but busy legs worse! Friend read an article suggesting eating melon at the first sign of heartburn - could be worth a try?!
How are members of the thrush club? Mine is back with a vengeance - trying to put off treating it until see Dr on Fri as really don't want to pay for canestan if I can get a prescription!!
Had a burst of energy and put up shelves in baby's room so v proud of myself, but now absolutely knackered and back has gone into spasm!!

Redhelen · 22/08/2005 14:13

Kiwifruit - Rasberry leaf tea from 37 weeks (although the pack says 35 weeks - think it's better to be condsidered 'term' fitst)

Going to do nursery tidying - panicing its all getting to real!!!

jessysmummy · 22/08/2005 14:21

Milward - I'm due the same day as you so can totally agree with you and KF - thought I was sleeping quite well until you mentioned "just waking up to turn over" and realised that I am doing that quite a lot in the night - finding myself on my back or right side and thinking "must...roll...over...on....to...left...side..." sometimes I make it, sometimes I don't!! LOL
Am also eager to start the RLT - didn't someone mention 37 weeks for this on thread 11?
Also, has anyone been massaging their perineum or is it a bit too close to lunchtime to discuss this?
