Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
beatie · 26/08/2005 09:21

Kiwikate ~ I have tried throwing more names at him and he says, "hmmmm" to some of them, then "but I still like XXXX the best"

I watched Desperate Midwives last night and now I am scared about labour again I'd like to just get it over with.

Is bank holiday a good time to have a baby though? Do you think they'll be short staffed?!

LadyLazarus · 26/08/2005 09:26

I'm a nurse, and in my experience (altho nothing to do with midwifery!) bank holiday shouldn't make any difference to staffing levels. In fact, sometimes people are more keen to sign up for extra shifts on bank hols as there's more money to be had! Only worry with living where I do for the bank hol weekend is the Notting Hill Carnival, if it all kicks off, shall have to get hubby to drive a different route to the hospital!

beatie · 26/08/2005 09:32

Thanks for that Ladylazarus - irrational thoughts start to take over my mind!

beatie · 26/08/2005 09:35

Does anyone else have an increase in discharge? Mine is getting quite mucousy now. (TMI) Nothing like a show or plug but more thick and slimy than it was a few days ago.

milward · 26/08/2005 09:35

Mummyhill - I got a call from my doc this morning to up my thryroid medication to 75 (1.5 tablets per day) . My levels are T4 free 0.88 and T3 2.36. How does this sound to you? I'll have another blood test in week. Hope you're ok with everything.
Today I'm packing some 'emergency bags for my kids with clothes for 5 days so when I'm in hospital my dh & mil wont have to think about the kids clothes (or work out my post school holiday mess either!!)

milward · 26/08/2005 09:39

beatie - I'm having a labour panic as well. My doc has suggested internal monitoring of contractions - which I'll be refusing. Just stesses me out. Last-time I managed with no intervention - just afterwards to sort out hemorrage. Hope this time to avoid the docs taking over. Have told dh to speak up for me when I can't! Can't watch the midwives programme....

LadyLazarus · 26/08/2005 09:41

beatie - in answer to your question, yes .

KiwiKate · 26/08/2005 09:50

Beatie - I like Bubbles idea of guilting him into accepting the name just after labour! I mentioned by preferred second name to DH today and he just said "HHHHMMMMMM - I'll think about it".

DS is at my mum's tonight (as we have an early start tomorrow for our refresher antenatal class). House is so quiet without him. Think I'll take a long lazy bath then get an early night!

beatie · 26/08/2005 09:56

My mum has offered to take DD on Tuesday so DH and I can have a last night out toghether before the baby arrives. I can't wait. We haven't been out without DD for ages. Not that I've really felt like it.

DH has his two brothers visiting on Monday. I know one of the brothers does not like our chosen girl name so hopefully the question of names will come up and I can throw out my other suggestions and see if DH's two brothers can talk up my other chosen names.

mummyhill · 26/08/2005 10:28

Beatie yes its perfectly normal had this last tim as well.

MILWARD - The accepted range for your levels should be T4 12.00 - 22.00 So yours is a wee bit low which is why they have increased your dosage. TSH range is 0.27 - 4.20 yours is pretty much in the middle so is fine. I am glad they rang you and told you to increase, I usually have to phone up and chase my results myself.

How did everyone sleep last night? I could not settle and bean was very quiet. Has not moved much this morning either and I am feeling really restless, might give community team a ring if baby doesn't move a bit more before lunch. DD is going to nanny and grampy's after lunch so will probably take the opportunity for a bath and sleep. If you hear on the news that a heavily pregnant woman had to be rescued/winched out of a bath tub in the west midlands it's me!!!!!

beatie · 26/08/2005 10:38

Enjoy your bath!

I was induced at 38 weeks with my DD. I've reached 38 weeks today. From now on, it's all new to me!

bubbles2904 · 26/08/2005 10:44

i am also experiencing the discharge thing. god i can't believe i've just admitted that to everyone .
beatie, just a quick question, i don't mean to sound harsh but what does your babys name have to do with your bil? when i had dd my fil didn't like her name but i just told him to get over it as i didn't have a problem with his childrens names. he just calls her bugs now

singleteenagemum · 26/08/2005 10:58

Morning all,
So baby number.2, scary. Hope everyones doing ok, my bumps really low and properly engaged now, keep getting wierd period type cramps, but they're definately not cantractions, althoug the attention from my mum is lovely!

Camping turned out to be a bit of a diaster, ended up in a tent was relly annoying getting up in the middle of the night and having to walk about 1/4 mile to the loo, but hey it was an experience all the same!

beatie · 26/08/2005 11:06

bubbles - I don't care what my bil thinks of our name choices but since I have a few names I like a bit more than the name DH and I have chosen together, I thought I could use him to lobby DH for my first choice!

Mind you, I'd probably find out BIL doesn't like that name either.

mummyhill · 26/08/2005 11:08

Welcome home STM.

bubbles2904 · 26/08/2005 11:11

sorry i didn't mean to sound harsh beatie, i didn't get your post, just thought you were thinking of changing because they didn't like it. sorry, wrong end of the stick again.
welcome back stm, yep number 2 is here and no doubt 3 will arrive in the next couple of days.

beatie · 26/08/2005 11:19

Don't worry Bubbles - I guessed that. Preggo brain means I don't write my thoughts out very coherently these days.

milward · 26/08/2005 11:24

Thanks for the info mummyhill. It's good the doc rang me & that I was at home but still a bit scary.
Hope your little one moves - my little one goes through quiet times & then lots of activity. Have a super afternoon - hope you get to relax. I'm not sleeping well at night - restless legs and just waking to turn around - ahhh. Today my dd age 4 has been throwing-up - all over the cream landing carpet this morning - nice - wish she could have made it a few more cms into the bathroom but that's life! So just clearing sick today& entertaining the others......hope they don't get it.

bubbles2904 · 26/08/2005 11:28

thanks for being understanding beatie, i'm sure that whatever name you decide on it will be lovely and will grow on those who don't like it anyway. my pregnancy brain is starting to bug me now. been having a few pains again this morning but too scared to tell dp as he so kindly told me a couple of nights ago that he thought i was a mard arse last week when i had a false alarm. don't know how he's still breathing!!! someone mentioned being clingy with dp/h, i think it was pc, i'm definetely the opposite. everything he says is doing my head in at the minute and i feel guilty and awful for it.

mummyhill · 26/08/2005 11:56

The closer I get to my due date the less I want him to go to work as I would rather have him here to look after me than have to call him and my mum out of work, mum to have dd and him to look after me/take me to hospital. Am frantically trying to demolish the washing mountain that apears to be never ending (I Know it will get even worse when dd2/ds arrives) and get the kitchen straight then maybe I will feel that everything is ok.

zoezebra · 26/08/2005 11:58

Am also clearing up sick....maybe there is a bug going round?? dd decided at 2am to throw up and then after changing sheets, bathing her and drying hair, did it all again an hour later. (Now have about 5 loads of washing). She continued this until 4.30am this morning. dh decided that he could not possibly get up to help me as he was too tired...the cheek of it. So he went off to work grumpy this morning. I am knackered and dd has just gone down for a much needed sleep as she started playing with her toy kitchen at 5am and had completely recovered.
Just tried to hang the sick free sheets out to dry and the washing machine has decided that it was not going to completely wash them, so have had to put on again. I really could do without having a sickness bug in labour. Had just started to catch up on sleep too, oh well guess its just part of having kids
Going to eat a chocolate muffin and wait for my friend to come over

zubb · 26/08/2005 12:16

zoezebra and milward - hope your dds feel better soon.
I've got about an hour of peace left before dh gets back with ds1 and 2, and then quite understandably dh wants a break!! I'm hoping the rain holds off this afternoon so that the boys can just run round in the garden with minimal supervision, but looking at the sky I might have to have an alternative plan in place!
What plans have people got for the bank holiday weekend? assuming no surprise arrivals! There's loads going on around here, but not sure how much we'll get to. Dh is playing cricket on Sunday so we'll go and watch that, but other than that we'll just see how it goes.

PiccadillyCircus · 26/08/2005 12:31

Congratulations to the Hal fmaily . Your due date was 1 day before mine . NOt sure I'm quite ready for another baby yet.

37 weeks today .

Had very good restful day yesterday and slept better last night as well.

Are other people with one child (at the moment) feeling a bit like an era is coming to an end. As DS is only 21 months I know it's a small era but I find it weird to think that in a few weeks he won't be the smallest person in our family any more. And he is generally being very nice at the moment as well - I keep worrying about how he will be traumatised by the arrival of DD/DS2.

We are thereish on names, not knowing if it is DD or DS2. Both DH and I have had right of veto on everything the other has suggested so there have been some lovely names I have not been allowed (and some awful names DH hasn't been allowed either ).

This weekend, for the first weekend in ages we don't have anyone coming to see us (unless a baby arrives of course). Monday night DH will be out until who knows when dismantling an exhibition to do with his work. And will then be off work on Tuesday (but needing to sleep). I am asking this baby to either come before then, or wait until Wednesday at least.

Think I will eat some lunch while DS sleeps. And also wrap up his present from new sibling (currently sitting on kitchen table; would not be good if he saw it now).

Raspberry leaf tablets - I have been given some by a friend. Suppose I could take them really .

beatie · 26/08/2005 12:46

We're going to a family BBQ tomorrow at my parents house. I'm staying there tonight since DH is still at his brothers with DD He'll join me tomorrow morning and then we'll stay the night there.

milward · 26/08/2005 12:57

zoezebra - hope your little one has finished being sick. I know the sick wasing mountain too well! Dealing with sick in the night is really awful - so I hope you can get some rest as well. My dd is now sleeping but had a large lunch - just waiting for her to be sick again.
