Hi everyone!

My husband and I recently found out on an early dating scan (like, very early, 5+ weeks) that we are expecting twins. We're being re scanned in 2 weeks time to confirm, but I'm wondering if anyone else is expecting twins. It's our first pregnancy so we're abit in awe of the thought, but wouldn't it be good to start a thread on twins so we could exchange advice, support etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! x

Lavitabellissima · 09/09/2010 16:32

OMG! I am so scared Shock

sassy34264 · 09/09/2010 16:34

hehehe. They are roughly the same weights as mine (except jacob was 7lbs 6oz) luckily i'm not 4'11! Mine was big but she definately beat me. This is me about 31 weeks. (taken 17th july, babies were born 13th august) I went bigger in the following 4 weeks!!!!

Shock I'm only 5ft tall, so am worried my belly has nowhere to go but out too. At 28 weeks I'm already getting surprised looks when I say I have a couple months left!

sassy34264 · 09/09/2010 16:44

For those who didn't see it 1st tme.

Amberc · 09/09/2010 16:52

I think it's when you are slim that your belly goes forward so in a freaky way I am lucky I'm a size 16! It's like slim face, slim neck, perky boobs, tiny ribcage and then....huge protrusion! Followed by tiny bum and slim legs etc etc! Mine's more fat face, giant boobs, huge lump, fat thighs!! I guess it's more evenly distributed so doesn't look so scary!

Swazzee · 09/09/2010 17:10

Amber you made me laugh so much! I feel much the same - but I'm 5ft and size 20ish. I think I'm just going to look like a beach ball with arms and legs by the end of it... Grin

Lavitabellissima · 09/09/2010 17:12

Amber Shock I've seen your photo and you are most definitely not fat! don't be so hard on yourself Smile

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 09/09/2010 17:18

OMG that picture has just scared the shit out of me Amberc !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock

Magic8ballhastheanswers · 09/09/2010 17:19

sassy I love your pic, especially the huge bottle of bio oil in the corner!

sassy34264 · 09/09/2010 17:49

magic ha.
In my 1st pregnancy i got horrendous stretch marks.......about 10cm long and a bloody inch thick and i'm not exaggerating. I didn't put anything on then. I was soooo scared this time especially with it being twins that i bought bio oil, and although i forgot to put it on more than i remembered, i didn't get one single new stretch mark. Don't think it was to do with the bio oil though. but you never know!

Had a sneaky peak at your profile amber i concur with lavita, you are not fat at all and you don't look to be a size 16 either.

smokeybacon · 09/09/2010 20:48

Another OMG for the bump pic! But amber there is no way you are a size 16!!!

Scan today went well. Both growing well and twin one still head down (phew). I was going to ask about planning the birth with the consulant but I bottled it. Think its because at 29 weeks (tomorrow) I think its too early. I'm back in 4 weeks so will def broach it then.

holidays whats a twin co-ordinator? Intrigued.

Amberc · 09/09/2010 21:00

Oh I love you all but I really am size 16 (am 5'8" so maybe it looks less on a taller frame but you have made me feel great!)

tabbycat76 · 10/09/2010 08:48

Sassy thanks so much for that link, you know that really reassures me actually. I think if you've had previous pregnancies you're likely to show more sooner, but since this is my first pregnancy, maybe this is why I worry so much because I'm comparing myself to mothers who're on their 2nd or 3rd. Theres a photo on there of a girl in Nashville whos 17 weeks, and her shape is just like mine, if a shade bigger but it certainly reassures! More so than the bloody midwife did who said she'd never seen twin pregnancies at 16 weeks before!!?!??!?! WTF!?!?!

And Amberc you're having a laugh aren't you!??! Size 16?!? I'm 5'8 and a size 12 and you look as slim as me!!!

As for the 'giant belly' photo - OMG! That's amazing that women can get soooooo big and not topple forwards!! I'm stunned and WOW!!!! Maybe I should be grateful that so long as my babies are ok, that my belly is on the smaller side. And yes, to whoever it was said I was paranoid about my size, I am, but then I guess that comes with the previous life of being a midwife and being on the other side of things is VERY different and it's always good having reassurance, esp during such an emotional yet joyous time in a woman's life.

smokey - I believe she is someone who "knows" about twin pregnancies more than the midwife... Confused
Next time I go hospital I'm going to ask when I can see her.

I'm also thinking of joining a twin club, I think there's one near me...

That picture looked scary, I'm a small 5ft and already my DD (at 4) is half my size! Blush So I dont know how I'll cope with the wieght of two babies!

holidays2010 · 10/09/2010 14:55

Quick query, around lunchtime today I noticed my stomach, where the sonographer scanned me feels bruised when i touch it but there is no phisical bruising or anything, just wondered if this is a symptom or is something up?
I was thinking it might be because of the scan, the pressure the sonographer used as it is in the area she scanned?
Confused

Amberc · 10/09/2010 15:19

holidays - mine felt like that after a scan. There's just so much stretching sometimes it will feel a bit sore for no reason. I get shooting pains too which i would have been paranoid about had i not already been through a pregnancy (and know to be normal!)

Amberc · 10/09/2010 15:20

And thanks tabby!

holidays2010 · 10/09/2010 15:32

Oh thanks Amberc, that's made me feel relieved!
I used to get shooting pains with my first when I was about 6months+ but glad you've said it because you've just confirmed what I suspected those were too! :o
