Right, I've done the honours. This is our new thread.

And don't forget the stats thread

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
notso · 17/06/2010 18:21

Hi wishx there is a link to the stats thread with everyones dates in the OP although mine is wrong, it's now 23/12/10 and I won't be having a homebirth.

Reshape thats what I thought about the ones I tried on, also most of them just seem to create a shelf of boob which is most unflattering.

wishx · 17/06/2010 18:24

thanks guys! x

notso · 17/06/2010 18:31

Glad you're feeling a bit better about things persnickety, 1 in 1273 is good, mine based on age alone(haven't had bloods yet) is 1 in 938 which doesn't worry me too much

WalkTheDog · 17/06/2010 19:06

notso, I had a bad spell of heartburn around 7 weeks. MW did write me out a prescription for Gaviscon, but I ended up not using it as heartburn went the next day. So if it is ongoing call GP or MW for a prescription. We get free prescriptions while pg

Things I tried were love hearts, ice lollies, flavoured milk. Try and make sure you sit up well when and after eating, and if you get it at night, raise head of bed or use more pillows.

notso · 17/06/2010 19:10

Thanks WalkTheDog it's supposed to mean the baby will be hairy, which was true with DS, he was born looking like a baby Orangutan

Wholelottalove · 17/06/2010 19:10

Hi everyone, welcome to wishx and congrats to those who have had scans. persnickety glad you're feeling more positive.

Maxpower sorry you're feeling worried about VBAC. There's an organisation which helps people come to terms with difficult births called birth trauma association, although I know you said you don't want to go over things again www.birthtraumaassociation.org.uk/

Re hypnobirthing/natal hypnotherapy I think you can just buy CDs to listen to on Amazon rather than go on an expensive course although I don't know what the success of one over the other is. I've read anecdotally on MN people who have said they found even listening the CD helpful. I'm going to give it a go.

WalkTheDog · 17/06/2010 19:31

Oh cute I love Orangutans

Hopeful1980 · 17/06/2010 19:42

Hi everyone

Just read through - its amazing what you miss in 2 days.

I've been busy coming out the closet since Tuesday and it's been so amazing getting all the reactions of friends and family. Parents were over the moon on both sides and all our friends have been sending messages of congrats about our 'sensational' and 'of epic proportions' news!!

Noticed some bra chat - I'd really recommend Debenhams - I got a set of 2x non wired bras (1x black and 1x white) for £16 and they are really comfy, got measured too and they aren't too frilly or gross.

xx

JodieO · 17/06/2010 19:49

Glad all the scans went well

japhrimel I'd thought that about bump but I've lost weight so would that still count?? C to FF already wow. Mine tend to get really hard and tender the later in the day it is oddly. Gone up a couple of sizes, I'm about an E/F at the moment and was a D/DD before, I need to get measured again I think soon.

bebsy sorry you're stressed, feeling any better today?

Lavita I wouldn't wear underwired bras, I think it's because it can poke into your breast tissue. Worse when breastfeeding as that can cause ducts to become blocked. I wouldn't risk it personally as I've had mastitis and it wasn't pleasant, I wouldn't want to up the risk of that just for the sake of underwire! Each to their own but I remember that being so painful that it's bad me very conscious of doing what I can to reduce the chances!

SeoMum Glad you decided to stay with us

Whatwillsanta I usually have D/DD boobs but don't really find clothes too much trouble, some tops can be but I don't tend to go for the non stretchy ones ditto with dresses. If they have no give in them then I just don't bother hehe. I prefer them to when they were smaller though.

Wholelotta I've read about doulas but I'm not having one. I'm one of those weird women that really don't care about continuity of care and am totally not bothered if I've ever met the person delivering baby before or not. Maybe to do with all my pregnanies being difficult and last 2 births being touch and go at the end so ended up with about 8-10 or so different drs, consultants, midwives etc in the room!

Maxpower would it be worth typing something up for people to read so that you don't have to keep on going over things every time? Then just deal with questions they need to ask based on that?

notso I need to pick up a few more maternity bits, you got a bargain there. Hypnobirthing sounds interesting but mine have been so fast I'm not sure I'd actually get time to do much when it comes to labour. I've been feeling flutters for a couple of weeks now and did with my last two, I'm sure that's what it is and I think it's very possible

Persnickety how are you feeling? I guess the accuracy is just down to human error, especially as you're dealing with such small numbers. 1:1273 sounds good to me. I'll get my nhs nuchal tomorrow and hopefully they'll get bloods from me so I should get adjusted risk at some point, not sure how long it'll take.

Dueling That's crap about your bloods. I'd hate having them all done again.

I'm knackered tonight, all the stress has caught up with me I think. Hopefully now it'll start to ease though, although something always seems to take its place lately, sigh. Hope everyone's having a good night

RaceyLacey · 17/06/2010 20:06

Evening all!

Persnickety, glad you had the rescan and you are feeling more reassured by it. 1:1273 isn't far off what my risk was with ds2 and I was only 25 then.

I've still not heard what my risk was, grrr, phoned up maternity yesterday and they said they had a backlog and were doing all the letters that minute. Well I'll see if it does arrive in the post tomorrow.

wishx, welcome in! and congratulations

WTD, did any of those others work for heartburn at all? I'm getting it mildly, not as bad as with ds2 (yet!) and basically sleeping sat up as I can't take gaviscon without throwing it all up. Never have been able to, it's the thickness of it, urgh!

re bras, I haven't been able to find any non-wired ones that I'd be able to wear clothes with! All my mat clothes are not low cut as such, just normal, but all the non-wired bras I've seen and tried come up really huge, plus make my boobs look saggy and crap.

jodie/notso - I've definitely been feeling baby moving around for a few days (and I think just over a week, so from about 13+a few days). LO is veryactive at 4am, and was really going for it about this time last night. I feel bad for dp though as he so wants to feel it and I can't wait to see all the weird shapes my belly will make soon.

DS2 is all better, back to his normal self this afternoon so we're going to take him to the soft play place tomorrow seeing as he'll still be off school.

I didn't get a chance to measuere and weigh mydlef last night, so will do that in a mo, I think I will have shrunk quite a bit as I don't think i look anywhere near as big as I did a few weeks ago.

Have a good evening everyone.

maxpower · 17/06/2010 20:21

Thanks ladies,

Wholelottalove I'm all for a VBAC, it's just the fear of having to confront what happened last time that I don't want to go through. It took me so long to just accept that what happened happened, I really can't face dragging it all up. But I guess I'll just have to confront it.

Jodieo it's a good idea, my only problem is I don't know what they'll ask so I don't really know what to write down. Plus, they've got my notes from last time so they should have a picture of what happened.

I thought I'd panic about this when I found out I was pg, but I actually came over really calm then. None of this really suits my style - last pg I just lived in denial about the bit where you actually have the baby and it worked perfectly for me. Having to actually go through stuff this far in advance, just makes me tremble with fear.

Sorry, this doesn't sound very grown up does it?

On a different note, re bras, last pg I wore very comfortable underwired bras all the way through (tbh I don't have much to fill them ). Anyway, after DD arrived, bf was a complete non-starter. The midwives had to admit in the end that nothing was coming out - expressing by hand and machine produced nothing - but bizarrely they thought I should carry on, even though they had to put DD on a feeding chart and were given me formula to feed her on. (Never did quite understand that!) So I was wondering if the underwire caused the problem.

My bras give me quite a reasonable shape for soft cups but they are really high. I've resigned myself to having a bit of lace poking out of the neckline of some tops and adding a cardi buttoned at the top with others.

Try chamomile or fennel tea for heartburn. The biggest things are don't eat big meals, don't eat or drink fast, don't have very hot or very cold food or drinks, don't have anything spicy or very fatty and never lie down soon after eating.

emma2617 · 17/06/2010 21:21

maxpower I share your fear of having to confront your last birth, my labour with DS's was horrendous (ended up in a crash section) and the hospital was so unsupportive and basically awful! I am convinced it was a mix of the birth and poor hospital that resulted in my post natal depression. I am now petrified of the consultant denying me an elective section, I really don't think I would cope well with that.

I hope you get lots of support maxpower and try not to let it get you down!

Wholelottalove · 17/06/2010 21:23

JodieO/notso/Racey I've also been feeling a few twitches over last few days. Had a one off ridiculously early which I eventually decided was wind, but definite little twitches every now and again this week. I felt twitches early with DD too. It is really, really lovely and reassuring and I can't wait for them to become more regular and stronger.

Max senidng some un-MN hugs ((())) - if you ever want to you know you can talk on here.

For those with DCs already, when will you tell them if you haven't? DD is only 2.2 and I don't know if it is worth saying anything to her at this stage, but she really listenes and picks up on everything around her, so trying not to talk baby in front of her. I am finding it hard to be as physical with her as I usually am - she's a big 2 y/o about 30lbs.

Anyone else still being/feeling sick?

deepblue · 17/06/2010 21:28

Hi all. Great news about everyone's good scans but sorry to those who haven't had the NT results they were hoping for.

Re hypnobirthing, I was really interested in this and thought I might do it next (this!) time round but now I think not simply due to the cost. I used the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs last time round and found them helpful. I had a fantastic labour (although not delivery) and maybe they did contribute to that. I had a very stressful job at the time and more than anything found the CD very relaxing and it helped me to sleep.

Re heartburn I went through many boxes of Rennies last time as I also can't deal with Gaviscon. They were the chalky fruit ones, similar to Refreshers I suppose. I've already bought a box in anticipation.

Re bras my boobs have only just gone up a size. Hurrah! So I've just ordered a Hotmilk from nursingbras, fingers crossed it will be ok. Looked in M&S earlier today but they are just so boring, yawn.

I can't remember anymore to comment on from all the threads. Tried to open the house with my car key the other morning...

Is anyone else finding that they are losing their waist? I'm getting a big stomach, although it isn't hard bump yet, and realised the reason I'm finding it difficult to carry my DD for long is because I'm having to bear her weight with my arms instead of my hips.

deepblue · 17/06/2010 21:32

Oh yes, I've been feeling flutterings for a little while. We told DD, 2.1, a few weeks ago and actually got her to break the news to my Dad and Grandparents which was very cute. She doesn't really have any idea of what's really going to happen to the family of course but lots of people are talking about it now so we thought it better to be upfront about it rather than leave her wondering, because as you say they do understand what's being said. Also to give her a reason to stop climbing all over me, other than 'because I said so' lol

shadowpuss · 17/06/2010 21:36

Hi everyone, I haven't been around on the December threads for weeks. Hope everyone's doing well. I had my scan a couple of weeks ago (now 14 + 3), and it was amazing to see the little one wriggling about, waving little arms and legs, and doing somersaults!

I have a question for other December ladies - how many of you are in maternity clothes? I had to start wearing them about a week ago, I have a very definite little bump and my regular clothes are jsut too tight now. This is my first baby, so I didn't expect I would look so pregnant so soon. What are your experiences?

SpangleMaker · 17/06/2010 23:06

Hello! Struggling to keep up with this fast moving thread during the working part of my week. I love reading everyone's posts though, especially hearing about the scans, though sorry not all the nuchal results were as reassuring as hoped.

shadowpuss I am mostly in maternity clothes now (13+2, 2nd baby). I've not got a proper bump like JodieO's, just a big flabby belly but most of my normal clothes are uncomfortable. I think with my first I started wearing mat clothes mixed in with big normal clothes around 14 weeks, and I can remember having a proper bump by 18/19 weeks.

Re telling DS, he's only 14m so no point. He'll be 20m by the time I'm due. I've no idea how much he'll understand by then. Does anyone have any experience?

Wholelottalove it must be hard work looking after a 30lb toddler. DS is a tiddler at 17lb and I'm embarrased to admit I'm finding it hard work already!

Oops - DS awakes - better go.

notso · 18/06/2010 10:22

Morning all,
Having a quick catch up before the thread gets ahead of me, I wish I'd had MN in the other pg's.

WalktheDog tried Ice lollies last night for the heartburn and it did ease off a bit, also slept on a mountain of pillows like the princess and the pea!

Hopeful it's lovely seeing peoples reactions isn't it, everyone was really shocked when we announced they though we were sticking with two!

Jodie racey Wholelotta Deep It's so reassuring to feel the movements, can't wait for a nice big thud though! I'm glad you are feeling them too and you didn't just tell me it was wind

maxpower and emma poor you. It must be awful to have a bad experience. I hope you manage to have a more positive time this time around.

japhrimel thanks will try the tea.

Dueling My MIL keeps asking me how the 'sicky' is as if I'm a newborn sicking up my milk. I told DH to record the noise of me heaving my toenails up and say thats how the 'sicky' is.
.
Wholelotta still sick here at 13 weeks. Thought I was over it but it came back with avengence yesterday. Told my DC ages ago, due to sickness mainly but they are 10 and 5 so a bit more aware.

shadowpuss welcome, I started wearing maternity clothes this week. With DD I was in them about 16 weeks and with DS about 14.

spangle Your DS might understand later on my godson was 21 months when his brother was born and he 'fed' the baby water through my friends tummy button everyday from when she told him when she was about 6 months gone.

Trying to decide whether to attempt going back to work next week, I will only have about three weeks left until my contract ends anyway. I think if I'm still sick Sunday I won't.
Have spoken to Hypno woman and had a chat with Dh and decided to just buy the CD's and book. DH said he can't see how it would help me as I had DS with minimal gas and air which was what I wanted and stuck to my guns on episotomy, so I can do it again this time and just stand up more as I think half the prob with pushing DS out was the fact I was sitting down not standing. He said he would hold me up if I needed it he feels he's getting braver in his old age bless him

japhrimel · 18/06/2010 11:13

shadowpuss - I'm mostly in maternity clothes now, but then I have a definite bump already - helped/made bigger by the bit of podge I already had!

Wholelotta - my 24/7 sickness has eased but I'm still being sick occasionally. Bad smells are a real issue atm.

Wholelottalove · 18/06/2010 12:09

Oh yuck, I just went to feed my sister's cat (she's on holiday). It was the first time I've done it as DH has been going and someone (DH is denying it was him, but can't see how he missed it) left a half empty tin of cat food on the side...... it was heaving with maggotts, aaarrgghh! The whole place stank and I was just retching, not knowing what to do with them. In the end I washed them all down the sink and shoved bleach down - didn't know what else to do. Grim.

Off to a wedding in a bit, hoping DD doesn't wee/poo on the floot during the ceremony.

notso and japhrimel sorry you're still being sick too, let's hope it goes soon.

deepblue you're right, they do pick up on people talking. I think we might tell her soon.

shadowpuss I'm in mat clothes and have been for couple weeks. Think I was in them at 14/15 wks last time (am 14 weeks now).

Persnickety · 18/06/2010 13:11

I think I have been so absorbed in my own worries that I have neglected most of everyone else's posts. Sorry

DF Just realised they messed up your bloods. They are so stupid sometimes. One time I needed DD's urine checked for infection (long saga of recurrant UTIs. She is 7). She i had to take her off AB and let the infection flare up. This was very unpleasant for DD. Then get a urine sample to the GP. We did this. And they called 3 days later to say they didn't send it for testing because they didn't know what to do with it. I was none too please told them what my then 6 year had been through to get them that sample, and told them she wouldn't be doing it again as she had now been back on ABs for 3 days so was pointless to redo now. I was so that they had put her through that for nothing.

Good luck with your amnio on Tueday week!

Emma, when I had DS I wanted an elective section and was terrified they would turn me down. If need to stomp your feet and I'll advise you on my demanding tactics. I was so relieved this time when, after telling the MW about my 2 previous sections, she said "So you'd like another one?" and I said "yes, please." I know this is a bit controversial, but I believe that in today's understaffed NHS that a planned clam section is the safest way to have a baby and is best for mum and baby. Sadly, lots of things go wrong due to understaffing. This is just my opinion an dI hope I do not offend those who disagree. I think everyone should have the right to make their own (informed) birth choice.

wishx · 18/06/2010 13:46

hey guys god its really hard to keep up lol!

im sooo jelous of all of you who have felt movment! i think i had a little flutter once or twice but everyone keeps saying "noo its too early especially on your first" or stuff like "its probs just wind or water movment" so its kninda taken the excitement out of it for me :/ i cant wait till i feel a full on kick so i can be like "yeahhh, felt 1 now! ha!" lol (evil smile) lol!

also i am i tiny person naturaully 4ft10 and size 8, and i can notice a small bump now, and hairy belly, eww lol, and my belly buttons chnaged a little, but these little things we notice dont we? (has anyone else had changes like these already?) anyway like the whole movment thing everyones just telling me im "bloated" or whatever cos its "all too soon" blah, blah, blah.. i wish people would not jusge and just keep their oppinions to themselves, its making it really difficult for me to enjoy the little aspects of being pregnant.

it took me so long to get used to it as im only 18 and it was a massive chnage and shock, but now i am getting abit excited i feel like friends and family etc are just judging me because im young.. its a loose/loose situation really. (must point out that my family are brilliant, as my mum had me at 19 and and everyones really excited, its mainly my partners family and all our friends on my mind + really angry at another friend who is 7 weeks preg ahead of me and she keeps puttin me down infornt of everyone with stuff to do with my pregnancy or changing the subject to all the things shes got etc that she knows i cant afford - angry because she was a good friend before she found out i was pregnant too and now its like "there can only be one pregnant woman in the village") :/

PS. ooh i just have to share this, as i know the above wouldnt appricate it lol - (except my parents) lol - i went in new look, the most georgous pair of maternity jeans on sale £8!! ment to be £30!! bargin!! :D veyr very happy! - i really wana start wearing them but i know people will just be like "why you wearing them for already?!" - although i do find it uncomfortable to sit in jeans ect now especially when they are done up :/

anyway rant over hehe (feels soo good to be able to get that off my chest lol)I know i should just ignore everyone but as its my first i start to doubt myself instead like oh guess it wasnt movment then or whatever lol ... thanks guys! x
