Strix · 03/07/2010 22:16

OMG... Misdee! How are you. How is your DH? Ticker going strong? Five... Oh my gosh.

Welcome!

misdee · 03/07/2010 22:19

ticker is obviously still going strong

Strix · 03/07/2010 22:21

Among other things apparently.

maxpower · 03/07/2010 22:35

Evening ladies,

Had a lovely day at the park with DD and DH today. Remembered to put my suncream on so no burnt arms this time

Will be birthday shopping for DD and DNw's tomorrow - 3 birthdays on the same day! I blame my SIL, I had DD before she had her twins!

I'm also looking for some cheap maternity shorts as we're going on holiday in 2 weeks time and I've only got 1 pair of lightweight trousers that I can actually sit down in.

squistle · 04/07/2010 08:48

I got the baby bean bag from mothercare the other day. I saw it and just had to have it. It looks really funky but it might be a challenge keeping the cats off it when I'm not looking! Has anyone else got cats?

Also got a little snow suit thingy to take the baby home in from mamas and pappas too. It was in the sale...in the middle of summer. I thought to myself I having that! I was thinking to wait till after the little one was born to go pram shopping. Try before you buy kinda thing.

MrsSnaplegs · 04/07/2010 08:51

Morning all, trying to enjoy weekend at home with DH and DD, lovely weather and really need to get out in the garden to repot some plants! Picked up some very cheap lettuce seedlings yesterday in B&Q - reduced to 5 or 50p per tray - just need repotting and TLC

Hope everyone is ok , so much going on here no time to read everything this am but will try tomorrow whne I get back to work! Quick note to those on a tight budget - try freecycle and gumtree for expensive items like travel systems - would always buy car seat new if poss as never know if it has beennin an accident however if it is coming from someone you trust then shouldn't be an issue.
We picked up 1st proper bed for DD from freecycle - nice single pine bed - then bought a new mattress for it. Have to say if I had loads of time would freecycle for most things as it is amazing what some people will give away

93pjb · 04/07/2010 09:00

Hello all, hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Sorry to hear about the cramps pjen hope last night was better.

jodieo if you are reading but not posting hope this has been an easier week and your stress levels are improving.

df I'd recommend borrowing a pram or at least getting a really cheap second hand one to start with - I came to the conclusion that it is impossible to know what will work for you until the baby is here and you adjust to your new life. When you've got that figured out you can invest in something with a better chance of not wasting your money. I'm currently on my 5th pushchair for dd and I think I've finally got it right! Ps re earlier conversation about femur length, being a small baby yourself is linked to having a small baby so it might be quite likely for you. (i was 6 lb and dd 5 lb)

Lovely day at the lido yesterday but lots of tears from dd when she woke from her nap and found she wasn't still there.

CherylAnnTweedy · 04/07/2010 10:06

Hi everyone, congratulations Misdee

Another one here recommending a Graco travel system. I had one with ds1 which was abused for nearly 2 years, only got a new one with ds2 as my mum had been looking after it, and I hadn't realised she'd had it in the shed, so by after 2 years in there it ws covered in rust and mould. Had another one with ds2 that I got rid of as he was my last. We'll be going for a graco this time, and at under £150 for the whole thing, even more reason to go for it! I'm not a fan of all these fashionable ones, think bugaboos etc are ugly & have never got the phil&teds, look to me like you're putting the baby in the luggage bit!

PJen - it's rubbish isn't it, I've always suffred with cramp at night & restless leg syndrome, so my legs are flying everywhere in pregnancy!

PILs are down today, so taking boys up to the farm & country park over the road. Have a good day eeryone.

japhrimel · 04/07/2010 10:14

Definitely buy the car seat new unless you know who you're getting it from and trust that they have looked after it.

I think with a small car, you need to have the car outside and try getting the system in the boot. Mothercare should let you do this afaik.

maxpower - I got some denim shorts from Mothercare. Once I realised there was elastic you could tighten inside, they were great.

maxpower · 04/07/2010 10:14

Hi squistle I've got 2 cats. Both were completely disinterested in DD when she was born although after about 6 months, I'd occasionally find one of them settling down to sleep next to her. (before anyone panics - they were never allowed in her bedroom and it was only during the day when she was napping where I could see her) Interestingly, one of them started paying me more attention after she arrived. He obviously felt there was a bit more competition!

maxpower · 04/07/2010 10:15

thanks japhrimel I'll take a look

Strix · 04/07/2010 10:57

Mornin! Regarding prams I would suggest looking round at toddlers in prams and see what they are pushing because I think it's best to spend all that money on something I will still want in 6 or 12 months. I think the bugaboo looks nice. I really like the idea of just popping the car seat into when they are tiny so you don't wake them going from car to pram. But... I really need a durable pram that can hop on and off of busses and trains quite easily. So, I think I'll go with a Maclaren AGAIN because it seems to have the narrowest wheelbase.

squistle · 04/07/2010 12:59

Same here maxpower. Two cats for me but no children yet. I'm worried about them being too friendly with the baby when he/she comes home. I'll set everything up for a bit before and keep the cats out of the bedroom so that they'll get used to it. My MIL says that her cats used to protect her daughter... interesting

MrsSnaplegs · 04/07/2010 13:25

Maxpower - we have 2 cats - only 1 when DD first born but then Grandma decided to get her a kitten for her 1st B'day (don't ask!) Only reason cats have ever been interested in little one is now she is old enough to feed them otherwise they run a mile. Both are pretty independent and "outside" cats most of the time but do sleep under her bed now. We also have a large dog - she was 18 months when she came to us and had 3 phantom pregnancies during and just after my pg - we had her neutered in the end as it just didn't seem fair on her - she was getting more distressed with each non existent pg she went through. She dotes on DD and they often curl up together on sofa now DD is older. DD slightly disappointed as we had stopped trying for no2 and had said she could have a puppy to share with mummy for her 5th b'day - had to explain with baby coming this year there would not be a puppy now. Seems very excited about baby though so hopefully not too disappointed with lack of puppy!!

Strix · 04/07/2010 14:41

Okay, this thread has prompted my to check out a million prams online. Am now thinking of baby jogger summit rather than maclaren. Need to find somewhere I can see it in person before buying though.

www.groovystyle.co.uk/productpages/baby-jogger/summit-xc.php

Any thoughts?

DuelingFanjo · 04/07/2010 15:07

I just bought some nappies all seems too soon and I want to look into natural nappies but got myself a pack of newborn ones for starters!

That jogger looks nice strix I am completely clueless but kind of want one which has a carrycot too, like that one.

maxpower I had cats for ages but my last one died this year aged about 15 while I was going through the IVF. I wondered if she was making room I will get another one or two at some point.

mumatron · 04/07/2010 16:26

no cats here but do have a dog who thinks -she-- is a baby. i'm a bit concerned that i have spoilt her a bit too much and now have to start being a bit more tough on her

on the subject of prams i have decided i will probably go for the icandy apple or the mamas & papas mylo. going to wait until about nov to buy it though.

still too scared to buy anything, i hope the next scan comes around quick. i'm missing all the sales.

GCat1982 · 04/07/2010 18:33

Hello everyone Can i join? Due 19th December

I have 3 DS's(7,6&1)all by C-section who keep me very busy. This will 100% be my last so feels slightly different to all the rest. Wanted to enjoy every minute of it this time but again the dreaded morning sickness has other ideas.

Never used mumsnet before always meant to but never found the time so i thought it was about time i had a go.

Thats all from me

CherylAnnTweedy · 04/07/2010 19:23

Hi GCat - congratulations & welcome to MN.

I's love the McLAren Techno xt but 1. as this is my last there's no point spending megabucks on something that's not going to be used by me again. I thought about getting one with a carry cot, but I don't think I'd use it that much as we'd either be out in the car so would just use the car seat bit of a pram so as not to disturb baby and for the rest of the time I'm going to use a sling. I;ve been doing a bit of research and like the look of this one:

close baby sling

It comes in a few different colours, would probably get the blue/black one.

maxpower · 04/07/2010 20:01

welcome gcat

sorry to hear about your cat DF one of my original cats went missing which broke my heart at the time so I can imagine how awful that must have been for you

squistle are your cats male or female? mine are both male. The one that went missing was female and with hindsight, I can imagine she'd have been a bit of a problem when DD arrived. But my boys just weren't fussed at all.

We kept the travel system we had when DD was first born so I don't have to worry about a new pram. But to anyone who hasn't bought one at all yet (ie first time mums) I'd say get the smallest and lightest one you can.

Chooster · 04/07/2010 22:15

Welcome GCAT!!!

I had an i-candy cherry with DS2 mumatron and loved it!!! It was fab... just a shame we sold it as we didn't think we were having more.

squistle · 05/07/2010 08:05

Hi GCAT, welcome to the group

Scary to think I have only got 164 days till B-Day! Or 5 months and 11 days! Agghh

Both of my cats are female but they are both neutered. They also live inside all the time (the locals would poison them if they went out!) So they are around all the time. The youngest is lying here on the office table with me while I try and get some studying done.....and browse mumsnet! I guess we'll have to wait and see what they do. When DN was born and came to the house we were holding him and we we turned around, the oldest cat was sleeping in his car seat thingy!

emma2617 · 05/07/2010 08:28

mumatron I really want the icandy peach blossom...and after looking at it in John Lewis nothing else ever matches up! So it seems I just need to not eat for a few months so we can afford it!

We need a double as DS will only be 20 months so not able to walk for lon distances! The peach blossom appeals as you can use it as a single and a double, so if we are out as a family DS can go in his pushchair and smudge (my new nickname for baby!) can go in the pram. But then If I have them both on my own I can push them both, and it folds really small...it sounds too good to be true!

Yay for all those finding heart beats with dopplers! I still have mine from DS but I was rubbish with it and it just used to panic me so I might leave it for a bit! Have my "16 week" appointment next monday so just going to wait for that!

I am at the hospital this afternoon for the quad test but I am in 2 minds. I never had it with DS and he was fine, but then with DP in a brand new job, not yet owning a house and already having DS we are just not in a position to cope with a baby with Downs or anything like that. Just the thought kills me. I guess I will just have to cross fingers, I have age on my side I suppose!

Hope everyone else is okay...welcome to the new joiners!
