bollocks! I've got size 14 nighties for post-labour, I was hoping they'd fit - maybe I should go bigger. Still have no idea what I'm going to labour in.

Good luck memphis!

beckyg123 · 21/06/2010 20:38

thanks melissa - have done a bit more research and d+v seems to be quite common in early labour! although not had any more pain today, could go on for weeks i suppose! my instincts were telling me to go for maternity clothes for going home! i'm certainly not slim or likely to spring back in!!!

DH think i'm going to plan a few films for this week- can you recommend any from the ones you've been watching?

lol at the nighty talk, i went the other way and got massive ones! they are like tents but will do the job just fine! only just stay up at the shoulders tho!

delta i'm sure those feelings are normal- this is our first baby i i get upset thinking about the dog not being our baby anymore!!! although i have told her she will always be our baby! lol!

beckyg123 · 21/06/2010 20:41

memphis hope your pains come to something soon! ooohhh... our first baby!

MLIC have you got any pains or just your show? is the show the mucus plug? sorry, trying to get my head around all the different terms!

good luck to both of you if things get moving

kkfairybrains · 21/06/2010 21:01

memphis please keep us posted! im so excited!
dh i bought size 14-16 and just presumed they'd be big enough but better try them on now!
just in from finishing off the painting outside and im so tired! think i may have overdone it slightly! hip is in agony and im swelled like a big balloon! was a gorgeous day though and im so glad its done. will look lovely in about a week as dp put down feed on the grass to bring it up all green again!
gracie thats definately sounding like a good idea.hopefully she thinks the same!

Hi,
Since i last posted i had a sleep and then we went food shopping. after waking up and all the while shopping i have been having strange pains, i say pains, hard to describe really. Its making me intake breath. Unsure of what this is really coz bh isnt meant to hurt is it?? I have had tea and they have subsided a bit but still in the back ground. is this normal? Im sure its ok but its the first time i have experienced anything like it so its slightly unnerving.

GlastonburyGoddess · 21/06/2010 21:51

Gracie123-why are you scared of taking painkillers after last time? what happened?

viksam-Thats really nice about the basket of stuff from your work, how lovely! Happy Birthday!!!!
I hate this week or should I say the 10 days around festival time, the supermarkets are really busy, the town is packed and you cant even drive around town wednesday/thursday because the traffic is like a snake right up from the M5 at bridgwater through glastonbury to pilton, its hideous! No free tickets think they still give some to residents in pilton, but not glastonbury alas.

kkfairybrains-its so nice having a big sleep isnt it, makes the world of difference, I had one too one night last week and was shocked i only got up at 5am and went back till 9! not had night like it since though mores the pity!

Gracie123-sounds like an excellant idea about your cousin, would benefit you both, you can only ask!

Jojobil-How exciting!!!! your be the first then unless anyone else pops this week! yay, the first birth!!

beckyg123-re clothes-I would pack maternity tbh. I didnt with ds1 but was still so swollen and had so much retained fluid that couldnt get normal clothes on!

well went to beach yesterday with sis+Bil etc, the tide was in which was a shock as its never been in when weve gone before, kids were loving it! unfortunately we took suncream with us but the kids raced off and noone thought about it due to it being quite windy, result being both are slightly pink-thankfully only on their faces. feel very guilty as theyve never been burned before, use factor 50 on them so they dont really even have tans. bad mummy
unfortunately I also have nice bright red lower legs but glad I didnt wear a vest top as I had planned!

Bought one of those parachute style kites and took that and flew it, it was great fun.

sis and Bil came back for tea and beers at ours, all went well and dp started heavily hinting about work today at about 10pm, so they went on after that! they came back this morning and left about 12 to travel back home.

they have said theyve got time off booked for end aug so probably come down again then, although sis said about coming down before that on her own to help me out(meaning sit and hold baby whilst ignoring other two and basically not doing anything vagaully helpful) just kept saying need time for boys to adjust/me to recover. if needs be will just ignore her calls and get dp to answer the phone and tell her im not up to it! lol

dp finally finished decorating in the bedroom now so we are rearranging furniture and building cot etc next weekend, should make it all feel a bit more real then!

sorry mammoth post! xx

GlastonburyGoddess · 21/06/2010 21:53

viks-try having a bath, if BH, should dissappear, if real thing no change of position or bath will make it go away

WickedWitchSouthWest · 21/06/2010 22:47

Vik I'm a bit useless really as I had no idea I was in latent labour! I just thought I had a bit of back ache I should point out that I have quite a high pain threshhold though...

mlic hope this is the start for you! I can't believe we haven't had any births yet! I've lost part of the plug, but with dd the whole thing went in one go about 3 weeks before she was born. Sorry, that's not much help is it?! Mine was clear too, no blood at all.

All achy tonight, but I've done a fair bit - including finally sorting out the old toybox! Had a good bounce on the ball too but I wish the hayfever would ease. It's all in my throat and nothing will shift it. Coughing HURTS!

Think I need to get the bags in the car, top up the diesel and make sure dh has built the crib to go in our bedroom. He's still in project mode with the front room but I'm quite happy that it's out of my hands now and up to him to get the work done!

Emster30 · 21/06/2010 22:50

Ooh it sounds like a couple of people are getting closer... fingers crossed it's either something starting or it eases off.

I bought size 14-16 nighties from Peacocks too (size 12 pre preg) and they fit fine. No wonder people are saying my bump doesn't look big enough to be 8 months pregnant

WickedWitchSouthWest · 21/06/2010 23:03

emster I have only bought a size bigger for after, it worked after dd Also for going home I've packed a pair of leggings and a big t shirt dress. They're not maternity but I've worn non maternity leggings throughout and I could still get into that t shirt dress 6 weeks ago so presum it will be ok for after. Only going out of hosp and into car anyway

stac14 · 21/06/2010 23:15

Hi ladies

memphis how are you hun? is the pains getting worse? I will be in my 38th week when I am sectioned hun, they just didnt want to go for the 2nd july as I have to be given steriod injections the week before the section and then will have an overnight as the steriods make your blood sugars rise, which may cause me to be sectioned if they cant control them

happy birthday viks pressies sounds great, how long till the house is finished? have you called the mw?

mlic I didnt realise the mucus plug could be clear or white I was always under the impression it was bloody. I've had bits when wiping I just thought it was discharge. Oh its a pity it doesnt indicate that labour is on its way

kk have dp and you got it sorted out? How are your pains?

dh I have huge pjs too, I'm not to worried about labouring cos of c-s but was advised to have looser pjs due to the scar

becky my bloods are starting to level out which is great and section is booked for defo on 7th july, have you had pains too? brains not working lol

glaston glad your sis and bil visit wasnt too bad hun, dont feel bad about the little bit of sunburn it happens. I recently read that a woman becam vitamin d deficient because she always used factor 50 the gp advised her to lower it too factor 30 so her skin would be able to soak it up.

Sorry if I have missed anyone but so much has happened on here, thankfully I am home after the decorating. I'm all achy and looking forward to my bed yay hopefully it means a better nights sleep, hope to be on more now I'm home, have missed you all xxx

Jojobil · 22/06/2010 03:55

Good morning! I am up already But feeling ok. So much is going on - this thread is really moving fast!

DH I came back home in maternity clothes with DD and it took my belly a couple of months to go down...

How are you Memphis?

I hope you are all well.

stac14 · 22/06/2010 05:57

hey jojo i've been awake for what seems like hours. Any plans for today?

Anyone got anything exciting planned? I'l probs need a morning nap lol but have some bits and bobs to sort out. Oh and washing machine is acting up argh x

violetbubbles · 22/06/2010 06:56

Hi everyone

Seems like a few of us will be cuddling our new babies very soon - brilliant! Looks like mine will be making an early appearance too!

Had the ECV yesterday and they managed to turn the baby halfway twice but it just bounced back to breech position before they could finish the maneuver. The consultant said there was very little chance this baby would move because of the style of breech. Consultant also noted that fluid around the baby was not so good so sent me for another detailed scan which confirmed this...although sonographer said this could be because baby had a full bladder...Anyone else presenting with reduced fluid??

Anyway, doctor in daycare informed us that I had been booked for an ELCS on Thursday. THURSDAY!!!! We politely replied that it was kind of them but we wouldn't be having a C-section on Thursday and wanted to wait until at least 39 weeks. So, the compromise is that we go back on Thursday for monitoring and a pre-op assessment for an ELCS on Tuesday. Obviously I am very, very disappointed as I really wanted a natural water birth and have been practicing hypnobirthing for a couple of months now. But I'm trying to focus on the positives and have been googling positive c-section stories, which has helped. If anyone on here can offer some positive ELCS stories or some tips for recovery afterward I'd really appreciate it! I'm really quite terrified about the prospect of surgery!

Thanks x

randomama · 22/06/2010 07:09

violetbubbles - I just wanted to say that my baby is breech too (EDD 8th July) and my hospital are happy to let me try a natural active breech birth. If you are keen to birth your baby naturally then it's worth checking out Jane Evans' 'Breech Birth' published by AIMS, in fact, go to the AIMS site and do a search on breech, there are loads of really useful articles on there. The book is short - it took me a morning to read it (in advance of my consultant appointment!)

Are you frank breech? If so that's the easiest position to birth. The only one my hospital won't deliver naturally is footling. What is crucial is the experience of the midwifery and obstetrics team at your hospital, so ask them about it if you think it'd be something you'd like to try. Best of luck!

Also wanted to wave and give a big shout out to all the July ladies!!! I moved on to the quiet July thread to post as I always felt so guilty that I didn't have time to respond to all you hardcore gabbers , but I read the thread to stalk check up on you all every day and look forward to hearing the first birth announcement!!!

Happy birthing vibes and best of luck to everyone!!!

x

Jojobil · 22/06/2010 07:19

Violet I had a emergency C-section the first time round To be honest you are so overwhelmed with baby that it is a great experience. It takes a couple of days of discomfort... yes. But so is natural birth. And it is much safer to have an elective then an emergency c-section....
Breastfeeding is a bit tricky as it is hard to sit up, but I found that being on your side with baby next to you is good and after a few days you will be able to sit up.... If it happens. Just take it easy and don't lift heavy things apart from baba. Arnica is really good for fast healing!
Stac my DD was up at 5.55, just after I managed to fall asleep. She was persistant about wanting to get up too!

violetbubbles · 22/06/2010 07:26

Hi randomama - welcome back and thanks so much for replying. My baby is extended and rotated (the wrong way of course) breech. I was totally up for a vaginal breech delivery but the truth is that there is ONE PERSON who can confidently deliver breech babies at our hospital. I met this person yesterday - he is the Consultant who did my ECV and he's so lovely. He said that he would love to deliver for me so long as I was aware that the likelihood of him being available on the day that I go into labour is very slim because of holidays etc. He also implied that he had very little confidence that anyone else at the hospital had the skills to deliver a breech vaginally. I really appreciated his honesty. I also spoke to a couple of older midwives who said that the registrars in the labour suites were not experienced or skilled enough to deliver breech babies as they're not taught the skills anymore and that if we want to avoid an emergency C-section or fetal distress then we should perhaps opt for an elective.

It's annoying that midwives and doctors are no longer being taught how to deliver breech babies. But facts are facts and I'm concerned that the staff at the hospital are not confident in their own abilities to deliver a breech. So, it looks like an ELCS for me.

I'd love to hear all about your delivery though - exciting! x

violetbubbles · 22/06/2010 07:31

Hi Jojobil - thanks for your reply - it's reassuring! I will add Arnica to my online shop right now Did you have to wear high rise pants and jogging bottoms afterward? All of my underwear sort of sits below the hips. I've read that bikini briefs and low rise bottoms are uncomfortable after a C-section...

Thanks x

stac14 · 22/06/2010 07:49

wow violet they were taking you in this thursday? The royal wont deliver before wk 38 due to my gd or my lo would have been here on 2nd. Strange how hospitals are even different in the same city. I presented with little fluid with ds they also said he was small. But instead he was 10lb 6 and there was so much fluid i soake a doctor, the bed and surrounding area. You'l be fine hun

jojo i turned over at 6.30 just in time for dp to be getting up for work so i'm still shattered but have to get ds up for school thankfully no school run.

Hey random hows things?

Morning all

X

DeeLite · 22/06/2010 07:57

I bought full briefs (five for £2.50) in Primark yesterday and they look like they'll do the trick. They are nice colours so don't look too awful. I think they need to be quite loose but Primark sizes are weird - 8/10 or 12/14. Where's the 10/12? I went for 8/10 which was probably a bit dumb. The bigger size would have been safer esp. as I'll probably have two maternity pads in the first couple of days.

I also bought really soft black stretchy pyjama bottoms for £4 and a couple of vest tops for £2 - the vest tops are pretty but easy to pull down over your boob for feeding so I'm pretty pleased with my haul!

KK, sorry to hear about your DP. Hopefully he'll wise up when the baby comes and he realises how much there is to do and how much he wants to be with you both during those precious newborn weeks. Ante-natal classes really helped my DH wise up and I think he now understands what a big deal the whole thing will be.

Lovely weather here today. I LOVE being on maternity leave.
