mamjo, we have a sofa bed in the nursery which is going to stay, we don't have a lot of people staying over so it should suffice, we were thinking of a fold away bed we could store in the shed as well if thats an option for you? I appear to be both dilly! some people have told me 'I'm swelling' whereas the next will say 'your still so small' so I can't win!

mamjo · 21/06/2010 16:40

Hi Dilly I am sure that there is no need to worry. I am quiet large (24 weeks) but a colleague who is at 21 weeks with her second still has nothing, is still wearing her pre pregnancy clothes, and says that last time round she didn't need to undo the button on her jeans till 26 weeks. Her baby was 7lb. So just enjoy it while you can and don't worry, you will get your bump!!

Elsa123 · 21/06/2010 16:44

dilly I wouldn't worry, we're all different. Unless she's suddenly popped, i think Hermya isn't showing yet from what she's said. I show less in the morning than the evening. x x

DillyDora · 21/06/2010 16:48

LOL Elsa I show less in the morning too!! Thanks mamjo excellent words of comfort! And LOL at Roo clearly you can't win!

Now..to celebrate I shall liberate that nice chocolate and pecan cake from the fridge (DH bought it, bit worried he's premenstrual....)

KSal · 21/06/2010 17:11

Dilly, don't worry - i know someone who turned up at the hospital in labour and they asked her what she was there for - you really couldn't tell... and she was very slim. It probably just means that you have good muscle tone - as long as your midwife is fine with it don't worry

I was looking fairly normal until about 20 weeks, now i look very pregnant indeed (at 24 weeks)

DillyDora · 21/06/2010 17:12

Cheers Ksal I'll see the mw for the 25 wk appt on July 5th and we shall see... LOL at your poor friend!

Hermya321 · 21/06/2010 18:46

Dilly In the exact same boat, I only look like I've had a big tea and whenever I go into baby shops I get asked if I'm looking for a gift for someone. My boss asked me the other day if I was pulling a fast one (in a jokey way) but I wouldn't worry too much though. I'm sure we'll get a bump at some point.....either that or we'll end up like Ksals friend outside the labour ward.

AbFabT · 21/06/2010 19:18

I'm 25 weeks today (woo hoo) but feel like my bump is quite small. My baby is measuring fine though, wriggling away well, and I am not concerned. When I had my scan a few weeks ago, the sonographer said our baby was nestled into the back of me (around my spine), and everything was fine. So I really wouldn't worry, Ladies. Hopefully means no/fewer stretch marks (though with 15 weeks to go, I know I could well balloon!!!). Am enjoying being more mobile while I can. Already starting to be a slight effort to get my socks on, and getting out of the bath, but it's all good.

SilverSky · 21/06/2010 19:51

I too am quite small in the bump region - it's my strong stomach muscles !

My trousers today were killing me and gave me a tummy ache so had to undo them complety amnow worried I have squished the little person, which is daft! Of course as I made my first baby purchase today I have now gone all superstitious! I drive myself crazy I really do.

elsa at last some results!

ellabella2 · 21/06/2010 20:34

Dilly just some more reassurance. There is a lady in my pregnancy yoga class who is 21 weeks pregnant with her 3rd child and she barely has a bump. If you saw her in the street you wouldn't think she is pregnant. She is tall and slim. My midwife also said that the size of your bump is not an idication of the size of your baby so I'm sure you are growing a nice healthy size baba in there

floozietoozie · 21/06/2010 21:31

Dilly - your baby is only 17cms and weighs about 12oz according to my book so no worries if you are tiny. Enjoy it. I was like that last time but I'm bigger this time.

Elsa, that's good news you are getting somewhere.

Mamjo have a lovely time in Valencia. Enjoy your pampering, you deserve it so much aftr six years of Ttc stress.

Elsa123 · 22/06/2010 08:32

Morning all- I hope everyone is feeling well this morning. Is anyone having very lucid dreams? Twice now I 've dreamt I'm having a girl, gone to have her then the rest of the dream has been preoccupied with me worrying about feeding her.

It seems to be the most preoccupying thing on my mind is feeding! My DH reckons its my primeval reaction to Masloe's hierachy of needs. I have shelter for the baby automatically (top of the hierachy) so I'm stuck worrying about the next one on the list- food! Its such an unknown and I have just as many friends for whom breastfeeding didn't work out as those for whom it did.

RooBear · 22/06/2010 08:44

Morning all, so happy today! baby eleanor/kieran kicked for the first time! and the best thing was DH had his hand on my belly anyway so felt it too!

shieldbug · 22/06/2010 09:44

elsa I had almost exactly the same dream a few weeks ago, where I had a little girl and most of the dream was about feeding her. Since then I've been convinced sproglet is going to be a girl, but I have no evidence to back this up. I have also found recently that my dreams have become more vivid again and wondered if there were any repeats of the Frodo dreams ?Nymph? was having. Sorry if it wasn't you Nymph!

I am soooo jealous of all those who aren't enormous. I look like I'm 7 months at least and I'm fed up of being utterly gignormous! There are benefits, because people treat me as though I'm about to drop, helping me with things, holding open doors etc etc, but I feel like a bit of a fake! I'm even starting to worry about growing out of someof my maternity clothes. Hopefully that won't happen.

Congrats Roo great timing on the part of your baby! Nice names too.

Silver I still haven't bought anything except baby wool (on cardigan number 2 now). Don't worry about squishing your baby- I was sure I'd managed to trap bits of sproglet (don't even ask how!!) but the consultant just looked at me as though I was crazy when I suggested this might have happened!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 22/06/2010 09:58

Elsa with DS1, we hadn't bought a thing by 20 weeks. I had a horrible dream that he was born and we had nowhere for him to sleep except for in the laundry basket, on top of the washing. I bought a moses basket and cot the next day!

lilmissmummy · 22/06/2010 10:11

Shieldbug I am with you and absolutely enormous so very jealous of you little bump people. Although when I was pregnant with dc1 I did not show at all until I was 35 weeks. I was still in normal clothes right up to his birth and walked out of hospital in a size 10 pair of jeans... I dont think I will be in those for a very long time

People have started touching me and not the people I know (which I dont mind) but the random strangers in the street

Roo awww isnt it lovely when they do that, loving your names too!

I wonder if the vivid dreams are just way of bonding with the baby?

Elsa I am trying not to worry about feeding but sounds like you are subconciously worrying about it too!

We are trying to declutter the house too, I get so frustrated that I cant do too much without getting tired. Makes me cry

Silver we have bought a babygrow - thats it! oops!

Well I am off to hang out the washing. Bloody rabbit bit DD this morning made her leg bruise.

Elsa123 · 22/06/2010 10:30

I'm on leave next week so I am determined to buy something, even if its only some clothes! I will leave the pram and cot etc as a joint purchase. my MIL has offered to buy a crib which i think would be really useful as we'll be travelling up the country at weekends so it will be handy to have something down south without worrying abou thaving to have 2 of everything.

I've just read a thread on positive breastfeeding stories which was helpful.

Apparently rabbits can get bitey when they are alone- they tend to be friendlier when there's more than one of them as they are pack animals.

lilmissmummy · 22/06/2010 10:39

That's what I thought about the rabbits but we have 2, one is lovely and tame and loves to be cuddled and the other one is unpredictable and growls and bites

It is her own fault really for getting in the cage but she does it everyday and the friendly one comes over for a cuddle. I wonder if it was a jealousy thing.

How exciting about the baby shopping - I reckon once you start you wont be able to stop It will be much easier to not have to pack up the kitchen sink every weekend too!

I still havent hung the washing out must go - any rabbit advice would be much appreciated.

Elsa123 · 22/06/2010 10:46

Is it neutered?

DillyDora · 22/06/2010 11:10

Hi All and thanks for all the lovely messages about bump size, also just had a chat with a friend who says that often if you're tall you don't get such a big bump. I'm clearly just a bit anxious at the mo as yesterday I was reading a baby book and got totally freaked out! TBH the way it's written isn't terribly helpful, as an example what I feel I have learned from it is this:

  • the baby will cry all the time while it's awake
  • I will be driven to distraction by this crying and then feel guilty but that's good because the baby is innocent and pure and my angry feelings are bad
  • I will be overcome with an urge to shake the baby but shaking the baby is bad (can't help feeling I already knew it was bad)
  • my DH might be around in the couple of weeks after the birth but for any real help I should have my mum there
and so it goes on.... clearly not the book for me! I'm exaggerating a bit but not much! She really does go on and on about shaking the baby! My counselling psychology colleagues would say 'Now, who wants to shake the baby?'

Hooray for your kicks Roo Elsa I worry about bfing too as my mum couldn't.
lilmiss sorry about your wererabbit problems...! Hope someone can help!

nymphadora · 22/06/2010 11:14

shieldbug It was me with Frodo. I had forgotten that!

HAve finally got the paternity info out of DH & his teachers T&C are worse than the council ones and will only be on stat pay.I have ordered asked him to speak to the LEA as there seems to be no way of avoiding him being on call.(Cant do details as it makes it too specific!)

DillyDora · 22/06/2010 11:21

BTW - there is a sale at Blooming Marvellous online
x

Sorry about the paternity thing Nymph How are you by the way? Are you feeling better?

AbFabT · 22/06/2010 11:25

Roo, how lovely! I remember when my DH felt the first kick too.

I've also had really vivid dreams - haven't had one (that I can remember now) for a little while, but when I've woken up after one, it's been so clear and real ... but now forgotten! Think in one I'd had a girl though! And in another, the baby came slightly early and we hadn't bought anything. Pah, what do you need - something to keep them warm, feed them, job done! How hard can it be!!!

Speaking of feeding/breastfeeding, are any of you thinking of getting a modesty protector thing, e.g. www.amazon.co.uk/SLATE-GREY-Breast-Feeding-Cover/dp/9805442993/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=baby&qid=1277200 891&sr=1-6 ? I am not sure whether they are worth the money, or whether a light piece of fabric will suffice.

Off for my 25-week M/W appointment now.
