Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
rollerbaby · 27/05/2010 22:33

I've done it!!!! Am now knitting queen.

OP posts:
Muser · 27/05/2010 22:37

Hooray!

I cast on the way I knit. Except at the last bit instead of putting the stitch onto the right needle you loop it back onto the left. I bet that makes no sense.

rollerbaby · 27/05/2010 22:46

that's exactly the way I just worked out to do it on another website!! Using both needles...

But the only thing is the far left first stitch is now a bit loose - do you sort that out at the end, or should I have done a knot? Using circular needles you see.

I NEVER thought I would be posting about knitting. My school would be proud.

OP posts:
Muser · 27/05/2010 22:53

Did you do you start with a slip knot and knit from that? You should get a nice tight first stitch that way.

rollerbaby · 27/05/2010 22:56

I think so... they go a bit baggy once they go onto needle cable tho if you see what i mean.

OP posts:
Muser · 27/05/2010 23:06

Oh don't worry about that, they tighten up when they go back round again. Once you get used to it knitting on circulars is easier than knitting on regular needles, at least I've decided that.

rollerbaby · 27/05/2010 23:13

I'm so chuffed! Only about 4000 rows to go... picture to follow in 3 months...

OP posts:
skihorse · 28/05/2010 08:02

I too thought curly said she had something lodged in her fanny.

Good luck curly/cunty for your last day today.

skihorse · 28/05/2010 08:03

extremely UNlikely

Btw - kudos to all you knitters.

CurlyCasper · 28/05/2010 08:11

I'd like to echo the knitting kudos - I got as far as joining ravelry a few weeks ago and have done nothing since. Need to re-learn how to do it, but might just go back to painting instead!

No, I have nothing lodged in my fanny.

Thanks ski. I'm hoping for a peaceful, under-the-radar day

cunty hope you escape smoothly too!

CUNextTuesday · 28/05/2010 08:23

I worked till 6.15pm yesterday which is unprecedented so got all the admin done - appraisals, training approvals, expenses claims... Got a bit to do today but broke the back of it yesterday. Got to take Krispy Kremes in today but on the plus side I'm wearing jeans! .

Started the day with a giant nosebleed however

CurlyCasper · 28/05/2010 08:28

oh, not nice - hope it has stopped now cunty. Pleased to be joining you in dress down - I am sitting here in cropped jeans and a XXL hoodie and I really do not care!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 28/05/2010 08:29

Owen, Owen. You know Ski, I kind of like it . Now forget you ever mentioned it so I can claim it came to me in a random fit of inspiration!

muser! Lovely of you to come on and update on the blanket! I have been wanting to drop into the palace and let you know how I've been getting on, but it seemed a bit of a hijack when there are more important things happening. I've looked at your photos though, and they're amazing! Actually, the new colour is not a million miles from the one I chose. Well, mine's blue, but gives a similar feeling Anyway, I am at about the same point as you - just tackling the final border. Hurrah!

vag I've no friends at all on ravelry, so I'm a bit ashamed to friend you, but perhaps I can track down moo and casper as well!. And honey welcome aboard! Yes starting off is hard, especially the million stiches required for a blanket, but sounds like you are well on your way. We never call them balls of wool though - it's "skeins of yarn" my dear. Otherwise you sound like what my book described as a "dilettante knitter" who apparently buys expensive yarns and ends up selling them on ebay to "real knitters" a few weeks later. Won't happen to you though: you can do this thing!

boxy great news on the horse! And curly em, also good news that you have nothing lodged in your fanny. Did the colleagues give you a lovely send off then? Maybe something for the babyje? Sounds like you were very touched anyway.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 28/05/2010 08:33

Aww X post with poor Cunty. Face covered in blood sounds, um, very dramatic. Hope you got it to stop pretty easily? My small one last week I found very freaky and because I never had one before, I didn't know you are supposed to sit up straight (keep nose above heart level apparently) and so I was bending over looking for tissues, with blood dripping on the floor! Desperate. Anyway, hope your last day goes really well! Krispy kremes....

skihorse · 28/05/2010 08:35

cunty I haz never had a Krispy Kreme. Cossie and carrots were also shocked that I'd never even seen a "cupcake" until I met up with them. This whole movement has passed us by (so far) sur le continent. Nosebleed sounds very glam, you sure it's a nosebleed and not your waters?

Well I did the spa yesterday and tbh found it a bit meh. Our local pool has all the pool/whirlpool/sauna/current facilities AND a slide for only 4.10. The pedicure was absolute bliss though and I'd recommend it to any of you third trimester differs. 4 preggos in evidence and I'm delighted to report I saw ALL of them sat in the jacuzzi - not sure if they went in the sauna. I didn't - not so much the temperatures but this whole "ve are in europe ja, and in europe we take off all our clothes ja" thing they've got going on. I walked through desperately trying not to make eye-contact with any geriatric cocks.

Yesterday was not my best of days - Julian was playing up from when I got up and I'd felt very nauseous - by the time I arrived at the spa I followed the wrong parking sign and parked at the hotel. I got dressed and was heading for home - 2 girls were stood by the hairdryers and a single loo, they saw me coming and one of them literally threw down her dryer and raced for the loo. Wotta cunt. I was doing the whole preggo walk too - you know, the full on waddle and hand on small of back. When checking out I had to go to the hotel reception to get them to let me out and she said "sorry, that's going to be 8.50" - I'd guessed she was going to say such a thing so I launched in to a "I'm TIRED, CONFUSED and PREGNANT and your sign is NOT in English" etc., etc. and as I was reaching for my purse she gave me a token to get out and said "just this time". Now OK, I do speak Dutch and as I was driving through the barrier I clicked that I'd got in to the wrong car-park, BUT for a spa which has all its gumph in 4 languages you'd think they'd put a fucking sign in the carpark saying "day spa left", "hotel right". I know it's small-fry but I'm becoming more and more belligerent with the advanced stages of pregnancy - some might say an ill-tempered old moo.

I am not sold on the whole spa concept.

skihorse · 28/05/2010 08:36

Btw, I wear jeans to work most days. This is because I iz computer geek and not expected to interact with real peoples.

skihorse · 28/05/2010 08:44

switty sounds like she should be somethingsuitablyknitty. A girl I house-shared with at uni is knitting mad, she actually bought a flat above a knitting shop and goes to all these knitting conventions. I'd not be surprised if she were the high priestess of Ravelry or something. Funny how we've got a strong continfent of knitters and a strong contingent of riders - does anyone feel they're not represented? We'll find your common ground.

muser I hope you're back with us extremely soon. e.g., in about 3 weeks if I read your dates right? Also need your input for Scottish boy's names I think. jailbait keeps saying things like "but it's an old man's name" and I need you and curly to be able to say "no, that's not true you silly little boy, now get back to your homework and let ski pick a baby name".

Cosmosis · 28/05/2010 08:58

we have stopped talking about names, not sure what that means really.

CurlyCasper · 28/05/2010 08:59

mooosssseer!

Nice of you to visit. I am in utter awe of your knitting skillz. Body parts crossed and widdershins rubbed in the hope that you can join us properly soon. Happy recommencement of SWI!

Must do some work.

skihorse · 28/05/2010 09:02

Artichoke Cosmosis III it is then? I'd like to be able to say there will be no other kids in school called Artichoke but you'd probably have to spell it Arteechoake to be youneeke.

Backinthebox · 28/05/2010 09:05

Am paranoid this morning. I sprayed the chicken house yesterday with toxic chemicals to kill off mites (blood sucking nasty little buggers the wild birds bring in) and the only movement I have felt from the baybee since is some hiccups this morning. Someone slap me (Ski?) and tell me that one small burst of toxic chicken spray is not going to have done any harm. Please - I need the slap!

skihorse · 28/05/2010 09:08

boxer I'd like to be able to re-assure you but your little boy is now growing ovaries as we speak. You can counteract toxic chemicals by skipping out bare-handed then making a brie sarnie without washing your hands first.

PollyPoo · 28/05/2010 09:09

Morning all. Good luck Cunty and CurlyOne - savour your last day at work! (and the Krispy Kremes )

Can I ask those of you second-timers, when did your belly start popping out? I am only 10 weeks (well, almost) but already have pot belly, especially by the end of the day and my skinny jeans are too tight, I can't bear anything tight on stomach. I'm sure I didn't get this problem first time round until about 14-16 weeks.

Backinthebox · 28/05/2010 09:16

Phew. Maybe I won't have to sell DD's pretty dresses on Ebay after all!

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 28/05/2010 09:28

Boxy I am no expert on chicken mite killing chemicals, but I did madly decide to treat one of our walls with highly toxic anti-mould spray a few weeks back. I was inconsolable half way though as I realised that I was exposing self and unborn child to highly toxic substances and that I STILL had to keep going and rinse the wall again etc. I kept holding my breath and running over to the window to breathe etc. But the baby seems to be fine. So the conclusion is a) you will have done no harm by such a small exposure and b) you are not alone in your crazed paranoia.
