All those 1st timers - heres what to expect in a years time!

water baby

Elf1981 · 07/09/2005 21:22

The first three times of checking the pressure was done by a student midwife so I wrongly assumed she was just being cautious / double checking. So I hadnt been bothered at that. Then they felt for the baby, listened to the heartbeat, then my usual midwife checked my pressure again, so up til that point, I wasn't aware it was a problem.

Have had a relaxing evening so will see how it goes tomorrow. I think its just cause its such a change to my usual that they want to double check.

Elf1981 · 07/09/2005 21:24

I think the extra measures is also linked to other symptoms I had (question and answer session after the blood pressure was taken!) and the fact that I've had a day here and there with no movement. TBH I'm glad they're looking over me, even if it's stressful.

mawbroon · 07/09/2005 23:16

Possibly still breech with me too! He was in the correct position yesterday when I went to see the midwife but he appears to have somersaulted again today. I have sussed out how to feel which end is the head as it bobs around easily when you press it.

So, who knows where he is going to end up.....

DH and I had our tour of the labour ward tonight. It looks really nice, but there were a couple of people in the group turning their noses up at the facilities. And also - you are not allowed to bring any of your own equipment that needs plugging in eg hairdriers, cd players etc and apparantly it's a big deal to some people that there are no hair straighteners provided there. I'm not a girlie girl (wouldn't actually know what to do with hair straighteners) and was actually quite shocked that people would complain about something so bloody trivial

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 07/09/2005 23:18

mawbroon - just remember that when these "girlie girls" are in labour they will look dog rough and wont care if they are allowed their hair straighteners or not!

I dont plan on being in long enough to care about that studff anyway.... im there to have a baby and thats it! Get me home and i can slob about and look dead rough in comfort!

Morning all

Glad to hear everyone (nearly) is having good midwife appointment, I have not got another one for another week when I will be 35 weeks (first one since thrity weeks - seems a long time in between)

Went to a breastfeeding class yesterday which was fantastic and not from the point of feeding. They were really focused on breast feeding (to be expected I know) but not in an aggressive way and I actually came away with a lot of information which could be used either way I decide to feed.

But the most enlightening thing was the midwife, so far I have not seen the same midwife twice, and took my husband for the first time to the last appointment. He came out really angry that the women was not really interested and was not helping me much (did not ask me how I was!!!) just took all the details specific questions if you know what I mean and then rushed me out the door. This has been my experience all along so I thought it was just the way. The midwife at the class was fantastic and kept asking if everyone had been told this by their midwives and they are saying yes so I think I have drawn the short straw several times!!! Gives me more faith going into hospital that they might actually speak to me during the birth.

Wow long post - have a good day!!!

BigBumpBonnie · 08/09/2005 09:09

re: midwives, every time I go to the doctors to see the midwife (she's only there one day a week) it is absolutely packed and there is just one on her own ( a different one each time). They are always running really late and the usual waiting time is about 45 mins to an hour even though you have an appointment booked. Needless to say every visit feels rushed and it's a bloody nightmare when you've got a 2 year old in tow!

Sorry for all the other breeches left, lets hope we all get some good news. I've got my consultant appointment tomorrow so i'll know more then, but am not stressing about it, whatever way I'm meant to have this baby is going to happen regardless.

Thanks for the tip mawbroon about checking the head, I'll have a go when the Braxton hicks lay off for a moment.

......and hair straighteners on a labour ward I'm a fairly vain person but even for me that's ridiculous. You don't give a stuff what you look like. Maybe the women were first time mums who don't know any better.... they'll soon have other things on their minds other than if their hair is frizzing!!

morningpaper · 08/09/2005 09:18

Mawbroown: "apparantly it's a big deal to some people that there are no hair straighteners provided there"

This is SOOOOO funny! When, during visiting hours, they are sitting naked in a pool of their own blood with a midwife cheerfully replacing the padding under their ripped vaginas, they won't be too bothered about the hair straighteners.

Anywhere with public liability won't let you plug stuff in - it's the law! Your fellow mums-to-be sound a bit DREADFUL to be honest!

Anyway I'm glad that you were reassured by your visit - I am always impressed by how calm and cheerful the staff at the labour ward seem to be and how clean and efficient it is. I found the staff on labour ward really excellent last time and I'm very confident that they will perform just as well this time.

SusiS · 08/09/2005 10:00

good to see that all the 'breechies' are turning around finally!! 'fingers crossed' for the few left!!!

nothing new here; bubs is still moving around like mad; lots of hiccups
swollen feet/legs and quite some braxton hicks!
aarrgh, the pain in lower back can be quite bad sometimes!!!
well in general just fed up me thinks

on the one side i want her out but then again i need her to stay put. we can't win, can we

mp just my thinking! don't think any of those mums will be bothered how their hair look once they are in labour. and i too want to go home asap

similar experience with my mw(s) - haven't seen a same one once! but seems to be a nice team
also long waitings for me too (despite having an appointment!) BUT they don't rush me out and do take their time!

still need to go and do our hospital tour (it's a 'pop in' every sunday; so hopefully this sunday)

elf: happy b'lated birthday

moomin: glad things with your brother seems to be sorted!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/09/2005 10:06

i cant be bothered with the whole hopsital tour thing - would rather just go in and be told where to go etc!

Really have the urge for this baby to come out now - too fed up!

Will be offline for a bit as moving house tomorrow and will lose internet and phone at some point today!

All of you be good and tell those beanies to stay put until im back online!

Jockey · 08/09/2005 10:27

Tee hee - hair straighteners!!!

Good luck with that move J&BMummy.

nervousmum2be · 08/09/2005 11:05

Good luck with the house move JBM - I hope it all goes smoothly for you, and make sure you rest lots!

Still not sleeping. Twas far too hot last night, managed to dose for a couple of hours, then as soon as i had to get up for a wee at 2.30am Boo decided to have a gymnastic session! Cue clock-watching for me. All i can say is 'thank goodness for Stephen Fry reading the Harry Potter books on CD'! Also perfect for helping to drwon out DP's terrible snoring

nervousmum2be · 08/09/2005 11:06

sorry, that sould have said 'drown'! Fat fingers again!

Elf1981 · 08/09/2005 12:26

Been to midwife again this morning about blood pressure. Still 140/90
Now have protine in urine as well.
Got to see a consultant at the hospital tomorrow. Was told I'd be there all day for them to do blood works etc to determind if preeclampsia or not.
V worried - this is all new terriroty.

jolovett · 08/09/2005 12:30

Hey guys - I've missed so much. Can't believe the first babs has arrived already. Congrat mishmash!

I've had a little trip to the labour ward - I had a show on Tuesday. They hooked me up to the monitor and JJ's heartbeat was irregular. Worried me a bit - they let me out and said everything was fine though.

Went to clinic yesterday and she told me that to expect anything now as his head is fully engaged and it will probably be closer to the last scan date than my actual due date. Thats tomorrow!!!!!

Oh well, we'll see.

BigBumpBonnie · 08/09/2005 12:36

Oh Elf, do try not to worry, I do hope everything's ok. At least they're keeping a very close eye on you.

Jolovett, could you be our second graduate?????

mawbroon · 08/09/2005 12:44

Good luck with the move J&BM.

Elf, fingers crossed for you. Hope it is nothing serious.

Hang on in there Jo!!

The funniest thing just happened to me. I went to the stationary cupboard at work to get something and my goodness it smelled FANTASTIC!!! I think it was the elastic bands in particular. Luckily I managed to shut the door without eating any of them........

My boss still hasn't got a replacement for me and asked me the other day if I would consider working into October which would mean I would be 36+ weeks. On the one hand, I should really put myself first, but on the other hand, the money would be handy and so far I am coping fine with working.

Perhaps the baby will come early and make the decision for me!!

MB

fastasleep · 08/09/2005 14:03

SOMEONE HAD A BABY?! No you're not allowed to do that, I'm terrified as it is... SOMEONE HAD A BABY?!

MishMash well done runs off to find announcement!

Aww Elf, I hope today is going ok, you must be so scared ... my MIL did my pressure (she's a nurse btw lol) at her house once and it was 140/90, it's usually 90/60 so that was a bit scary but seemed to be a one off... I've got midwife appointments left right and center atm, they're thinking I might have pre-eclampsia coming on too after the protein in my pee, my bp was higher than usual but not classed as 'high' although with my usual bp being so low it would take me a while to get to 'high'! Best of luck with the bloodwork etc... I hope it's all fine...

Good luck with the move JM! Can't believe we're touring hospitals already... AAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!

fastasleep · 08/09/2005 14:05

Rubber bands... pmsl! ....Chewy....

morningpaper · 08/09/2005 17:39

I'M EXHAUSTED.

I CAN'T LOOK AFTER MY TWO YEAR OLD ANY MORE!!!! It's too physically exhausting.

My house is a mess and I have 4000 chores to do.

All I can do is lie down.

triceratops · 08/09/2005 17:46

I hope your blood pressure comes down soon Elf and Fastasleep.

Lol at the rubber bands mawbroon. I am just thirsty all the time at the moment. Which means I am spending my life in the loo

triceratops · 08/09/2005 17:47

I fell asleep at the soft play place this afternoon, despite the hordes of screaming kids. It was soooooo comfy. I woke up drooling which was a bit embarrassing so I hope no one noticed.

BigBumpBonnie · 08/09/2005 19:17

I've stopped going to soft play, I've stopped going anywhere Something changed with the bump this morning and it's heavy, low and really pressing on my bladder. Maybe she's turned from breech, will find out tomorrow!!

Hope your move goes ok, J&BM

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/09/2005 19:21

Fed up... hot tired and Jess is refusing to sleep - dad just offered me a nice relaxed evening back home - WHY did i say no?!

ready for baby to drop out now - WHY have i still got 6 weeks to go?

nervousmum2be · 09/09/2005 10:54

just got back from seeing my consultant. He was absolutely lovely, and i get my caesarean with no hassle! A fortnight on Monday, i get to be a Mummy Obviously if Boo decided to come before then, i have to hot-foot it straight to the hospital, where i have been assured that they have to give me a section, as i've got an elective one booked. I am just soooo relieved that it's been sorted, as i was really beginning to worry.

Good luck to everyone else with their various appointments x
