franch · 05/08/2005 19:50

Oh yes do join, there are photos of DD in the first issue of their parenting magazine

franch · 05/08/2005 20:06

Just trying to get started on packing an emergency labour bag, and thinking about getting my homebirth stuff together, in the light of moschops recent surprise ... Suddenly remembered a drink I made last time - I poured it into a plastic bottle and froze it then took it out when I went into hosp - it's known as 'labourade' - recipe here - quite useful I think.

DH is currently in Ikea with DD (whatever happened to bedtime?!), buying her a new wardrobe and chest of drawers so that DD2 can have hers (as her chest of drawers is also a changing table). So I suppose we're beginning to get somewhere ....

bubbles2904 · 05/08/2005 20:40

i am still in complete shock here, i can't believe our first bundle has arrived. can't stop smiling

RedZuleika · 05/08/2005 20:42

Is this drink meant to work a bit like those oral rehydration sachets? Dioralyte et al?

Have emergency bag half packed - but it doesn't contain anything seriously useful at the mo (no knickers or baby clothes). Must rectify this...

franch · 05/08/2005 20:54

It's supposed to rehydrate but also give lots of energy and help with contractions RZ.

I've actually managed to give the birth some serious thought today and there's a lot more to do than I thought ... I think the panic has paralysed me .......

diane77 · 05/08/2005 20:56

has anyone organised a tens machine? I had one the last time but amin 2 minds whether to do this again.

RedZuleika · 05/08/2005 21:10

I've got a list of all the things I need to do / organise - I'm just paralysed by exhaustion.

I've never tried a TENS machine, but my MIL has offered me the one she bought my FIL. He didn't get on with it (and was more in the morphine league by that point) so it's hardly been used.

mummyhill · 05/08/2005 22:01

CONGRATULATIONS MOSCHOPS AND FAMILY

Now i am seriousley starting to worry will be 36 weeks on Tuesday and although bag is packed appart from nursing bras (must get measured up for one soon) ans everything i need is down out of the loft and washed I don't feel ready yet even if i am fed up with feeling like a whale.

Redhelen · 05/08/2005 22:03

So shocked by first baby - I've just done more ironing!

I need to organized a tens macahine too - I did find mine distracted me last time - unsure if it made a difference to the pain - but did occupy me!

bubbles2904 - I'm not very happy with my dr/mw - went last week and mw said come back in 4 weeks -I'm also upset to learn from a pregnant friend that she has had her iron levels checked since being perscribed iron - my doctor said there was no need - think I'm going to visit him next week!! Like you i waited weeks for iron test results (had to leave work early as so exhusted!) and then had to wait days for perscription. Night night xxx (any more babys this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

mummyhill · 05/08/2005 22:09

Now need to make a trip to mothercare for pram matress and i am sorted can survive in our tiny house with out a monitor for a while if we have to, have asked family for vouchers so will spend them on anything we are desperate for after the even am now bit more confident.

diane77 · 06/08/2005 10:03

morning

just had an awful night, got the wost headache ever i just couldnt sleep, not sure if i should be worried and due to complicated care service unsure who to ask for advice from

mummyhill · 06/08/2005 10:05

morning Diane - Have you got any visual disturbances with your headache or excesive swelling anywhere honey?

mummyhill · 06/08/2005 10:07

Mamas and papas have just rang and cancelled my order apparently they don't take solo, thius means i now have to go all they way into the bullring to get my matress and i was hoping to avoid doing that as i get panic attcks when in large crowds when i am heavily pregnant.

ych · 06/08/2005 10:20

Congratulations Moschops & family!!! Fabulous news, our first Sep thread baby.

LadyLazarus · 06/08/2005 11:19

Bloody Hell re: Moschops!!! I am shocked! Well done and CONGRATULATIONS! Hope it all went smoothly

franch · 06/08/2005 14:51

Just had a lovely senior midwife come and visit - feeling very reassured about my care. Talked about homebirth arrangements, birth plan etc. and she's very much on my wavelength. Hurrah!

She did add to my panic though when she examined me, saying "Ooh, it's well in!". Apparently it's 3/5 engaged. Anyone else's bean burrowed down that far yet??? Don't tell me I'm next, please!!!

d77 - I'm feeling the same as you about TENS - I was induced last time so hard to judge if it would be any use for a natural birth ... Probably won't bother as I wasn't that convinced tbh.

RZ - is your FIL's machine def OK for labour? I seem to remember being offered one last time round then reading on the pack that it was not to be used for childbirth - no idea why though.

Boompi · 06/08/2005 17:50

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Moschops!! Cant believe it. Look forward to hearing how things are going.

mummyhill · 06/08/2005 17:52

Franch - my bean has been 3/5 engaged since 22 july not sure where it is at the moment will find out at midwifes visit on Monday and let you know.

Milward - How are you getting on with the thyroxine?

Just been to touchwood (solihull) and bought my crib matress. Then on to the Fort in Erdington where I argued with a sales girl in mothercare, she was giving the hard sell on a pram matress. Sorry but i do not need to spend £30 on a matress for the pram even if it has got a washable lockaway core incase baby is sick or nappy leaks. If you change their nappies often enough they don't leak and as for if they are sick just change the pram sheet a spare doesn't take up much space in the changing bag or you could always swap it round so their feet are at the wet bit instead of their face if you are really desperate. Then she told me that i needed a 40 DD nursing bra daft girl ff i was wearing a 42F matternity bra why would i need to go down in size bearing in mind they get huge when your milk comes in.

ych · 06/08/2005 18:24

I've just been looking at my hospital notes from Friday and it says cephalic 5/5 - is 5/5 the lowest it can go or is that 1/5??? Got the doctors on Monday so can ask him but just wondered. If 5/5 means the baby is deeply engaged, is that not a bit worrying seeing as I still have 6 weeks to go?!?

mummyhill · 06/08/2005 19:03

5/5 is usually the lowest you can get sweetheart. You can walk round like that for weeks though it's just uncomfy.

mummyhill · 06/08/2005 19:05

The first number is usually how many fiths of the head is engaged in the pelvis so 1/5 is one fith of the head is in the pelvis and so on till you get to fully engaged which is 5/5.
