Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jessysmummy · 16/08/2005 10:35

Kiwifruit - I have been suffering from ms again, though thankfully not every morning and not throughout the day as I did in the 1st and 2nd trimester. Am putting it down to the tiredness. Hoping it will clear up when I finish work and finally get a bit of a chance to rest up.

Katts · 16/08/2005 10:38

KF...same here. Nauseous in the morning - well any morning I'm sat in front of a computer trying to work. Working from home today so maybe it won't be as bad.

mummyhill · 16/08/2005 10:50

I have been having the odd bout of sickness was not to impressed at its return as i was sick till 24 weeks to begin with!!! Ohh well theoretically only three weeks to go but am prepared for anything from today to 5 weeks time!!!!!

KiwiKate · 16/08/2005 10:57

KF, LL, JM, Katts - I've not had any morning sickness in either pg. But from about two weeks ago suddenly started sickness at night EVERY NIGHT very severe (understand that some women can get "morning sickness" at night). So my sympathies to all suffering from this/a variation of it. My sickness lasts well into the night, and does not help the insomnia at all!!

Sarahhal - my 2.3 yo has been in a "big bed" for a couple of months now - we made a huge deal of getting him a special duvet cover and pillow case etc, and telling him how special he was and what a big boy etc etc etc and he loved it from the first night. But TBH if he hadn't, I think I'd revert back to the cot like you. No point in adding any extra stress at the moment.

Is it my imagination, or is this thread getting really long again?

LadyLazarus · 16/08/2005 11:31

KiwiKate - in the first trimester, my sickness was pretty much round the clock, especially if I got up for the loo in the night, so I know where you're coming from. Very horrible indeed!

Trying to muster up the energy to get out of the house and DO something (well, probably only go to the park and read! Hard life )...

franch · 16/08/2005 12:57

Goodness me it's busy here. Time for another thread do we think?

It's all beginning to feel scarily real, huh? Picked up the homebirth kit from hosp on Sun, so if nothing goes wrong I can def have my homebirth as of now ... Getting the pool on Mon. Saw midwife today - all fine - plus anaesthetist, to discuss what would happen in the case of an emergency c-section, as my epidural went badly wrong last time. Feel very reassured.

Just need to clear some space in the bedroom now, get some more tidying done and put my homebirth stuff together (candles, aromatherapy oils, waterproofing ...!). Am beginning to learn to accept (and even ask for) help, instead of just smiling and nodding when people offer - plenty of friends and family are actually having a lot of fun taking DD off my hands so that I can get organised, so I'm very lucky and actually feeling relatively sane at the moment I keep getting little labour false alarms tho (imagination working overtime), and that's when I realise that I'm really not ready - either organisationally or (especially) psychologically. I was 37 weeks yesterday tho so had better start feeling ready soon! Would def prefer my mum to be in town to take DD off my hands before labour starts - she's not coming till 25th.

Hope everyone's well and enjoying the good weather

Kiwifruit · 16/08/2005 13:12

Glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a morning sickness problem, but sympathies to all of you who are suffering too!!

Still haven't started organising - think I have most of the contents of my hospital bag - they're just not all in the same place. Got some navy blue PJs on sale at The White Company on Saturday. When I went to the Day Assessment Unit on Friday, there was a new mum wandering around in white PJs with big blood stains on the back, which I decided wasn't really a great look, so decided to invest in something nice and dark!

I finish work a week today - can hardly wait!!! Now go to meetings and switch off as most of what is said doesn't impact me (a bit naughty really...). Fingers crossed that this weather will stay for a while so that I can enjoy it, instead of having to look at it out of the office window!!

zubb · 16/08/2005 13:17

Franch I know what you mean about not being ready!
Still got loads of work to get through before I even think about having this baby, and lots to sort out with builders etc.
Luckily dh has the summer off and is looking after ds1 and ds2 all the time so that I can focus on working, and the benefit of working from home is that I can wear really comfy clothes all the time and take lots of breaks if I need them.
Dh is going to take the boys away for a few days next week so I can't have this one yet!
Got my scan tomorrow to check the growth, but judging by the amount of movement that I've been getting the last few days I don't think (fingers crossed) that there's anything wrong at the moment.

milward · 16/08/2005 14:07

Felt little one have hiccups this afternoon for the first time!! Today I felt shaky like I'd not eaten much just like I'd experienced in the first 12 weeks or so. Getting ready for huge weight gain then. I'm big & have grown out of some maternity clothes!

Kiwifruit · 16/08/2005 14:30

Milward - I have that problem with my maternity clothes as well... Only one of my work shirts still fits me - am bursting out of the other ones - luckily won't need them after this week . Also finding that my maternity t-shirts are now getting too short, resulting in me baring my belly occassionally (not a look that I like on me...).

PiccadillyCircus · 16/08/2005 14:37

I keep growing out of materntiy clothes (generally bottoms rather than tops though). It's because I am small to start with (size 8-10 when not pregnant) and then put on lots of weight which has to go somewhere. I start off in small sized maternity clothes, and then expand through medium. I think I need large bottoms now but can't be bothered to get anything else. Although the alternative would be going round with nothing on my lower half which would be more than anyone could cope with.

I do have some jogging bottoms from this stage with DS but don't want to wear them.

Redhelen · 16/08/2005 14:48

Hello!

Went to the hospital - disappointed I did not have a scan - got prodded by consultant and trainee doctor - they agreed the baby is in the best head down non-back to back position so no need for a c-section (at the moment), going back on 13th September for a 'sweep'if no sign of baby by then! I then went to have a blood test to check iron levels - ended up having 2 tests one in each arm as the wrong colour viles were used! Stopped for a coffee on the way home and burst into tears - couldn't speak for 10 minutes - bulbering mess! (ds & dh very confused!) not sure if it was relief or disappointment - as at least with a booked c-section you have an (earlier)end date in mind!

Little bit worried that my bp is slightly up and had a trace of protein in urine - I'm definately going to see mw every week now!

LL - How is the novel progressing?

Perhaps we could collectively write a book on how not to annoy a pregnant woman!

zubb · 16/08/2005 14:55

agree with the maternity clothes - some trousers are really tight now. If I'm not going out I tend to wear a sarong now as its so comfy, or just tie it round my waist and put a t-shirt on.

PiccadillyCircus · 16/08/2005 15:00

Thank you zubb - sarong sounds a good idea. I think I even now where I put the sarongs I tidied as well .

I have found a potential solution to my sleeping problems - I have become a user of Boots Aromatherapy sleep easy bath essence - I have a bath with it in every evening and although I do wake up, I've only been needing to go to the loo once and other times, I manage to get back to sleep. Also got some pillow spray in the same smell yesterday. After having followed this routine for the past week or so, I don't think I will stop.

zubb · 16/08/2005 15:10

PC - I had the sleep easy spray last time, luckily haven't needed it this time. Not sure why this one is so different - with the other 2 I was up a couple of times a night for the loo, this time unless one of the boys wakes me up then I sleep through OK. Maybe my body is used to it by now!

LadyLazarus · 16/08/2005 15:20

RedHelen - have temporarily abandoned the novel due to not being able to concentrate!! Will pick it up when (if!) get settled with baby in a few months time perhaps... Glad your baby's in the right position. How come you'll need a sweep so soon? I thought your due date was around the same as mine (my new one! ie. 12th)?

It's such a nice day outside, but I can't get the energy together to actually leave the house! . Have just finished reading The Baby Whisperer, and must say it seems really good. Definitely some ideas in there I will try to put into practice. Haven't read Gina Ford, but this approach seems much more flexible than what I have heard about GF. Has anyone else read it?

Redhelen · 16/08/2005 15:35

LadyLazarus - Yes the 12th sept is 'the scan day!' or 5th from last period, I think they are keen to start to induce fairly early on as I have a c-section scar and because my son was sooo late my placenta had started struggling.

Thankfully most of my maternity tents still fit - but I hate them all!

Kiwifruit · 16/08/2005 16:17

Lady L - I have read the Baby Whisperer, and I thought it sounded like something that I could use as a guide (being a complete novice at this baby thing and having no idea how long/often babies need to sleep/eat/play/do whatever else it is they do...). Haven't read GF, but have read a number of threads about her methods, and don't think it sounds like me at all. One of the things I liked about the BW was that she takes into account the fact that babies have different personalities, so you need to adjust for that.

Didn't realise that your due date had been adjusted (must have missed that post...) - if it's now the 12th, what was your original date?

Am really struggling to stay awake at my desk today. Think I will be snoring loudly at yoga tonight . Have just been handed a project to kick off before I leave and really am struggling to find the brain cells/motivation to think about it...

andif · 16/08/2005 16:30

What a lot of chat! It's scary and exciting that some people are due in only a couple of weeks!!!!
I also spend most evenings in a sarong - can't bear anything on my bottom half by then. Meant to be going out tonight, but don't think I can face it - pelvis really sore at the moment.
Sarahal, think you're def doing the right thing with the cot - chances are ds will take a step back anyway when baby is born, so why make life more difficult. Can't remember who it is that keeps being woken up by child wetting bed, but maybe whoever you are should think about putting back in nappies at night for similar reason - and your sanity!! My ds1 wasn't dry at night until 4 and he was far from the last of my friends!
Boompi - RLT tabs are 500mg and it says to take 1-3 a day. I manage 2 if I'm organised enough to remember!
I've also been sick a couple of times recently - still gagging when teeth cleaning, but others down to heartburn which is still horrendous. KF (I think it was your suggestion..) - have tried nux vomica with no effect. Now on something that sounds like arsenic.. kill or cure eh?!!

andif · 16/08/2005 16:38

LadyL - just read that article on RLT. It says that it can help shorten labour - presumably the only way to do this is with stronger contractions!!! That is certainly what I was told with ds1 at NCT classes. Wasn't particularly short though.....(now asking self, why am I taking it this time!!???) With ds2 kept forgetting to take it, and labour lasted longer than ds1 with weaker contractions.

zubb · 16/08/2005 17:32

I bought some RLT a while ago but if it shortens labour then I don't think I'll bother! an hour 45 was short enough for me last time, don't think I'd want it much quicker. It sounds good having such quick labours but my body goes into some sort of shock each time I think though with ds2 not as badly as ds1 (2 hours).

LadyLazarus · 16/08/2005 20:57

andif - yes I never quite made the link between shorter labour and stronger contractions hehe! I think "Ipecac" homeopathy remedy can help with nausea, sure I read that somewhere...

Redhelen · 16/08/2005 21:11

Night night - last antenatal tomorrow!

zubb - wow - hope I manage a short labour

  • my contractions were really strong for the first 2 hours - then stopped and I didn't progress after that! I'm going try to hold of going to hospital as long as I can this time!!! -is there any way a woman can tell how much shes dilated??
franch · 16/08/2005 21:43

Yes short labours can be very scary indeed.

Interesting question re. dilation RH - I bet the ladies in the ukmidwifery egroup could tell you.

I'm back at the hosp again tomorrow - have been invited by the consultant mw to the community midwives' weekly meeting, in order to meet as many of the mws as poss before the big day so that hopefully I'll be cared for by familiar faces. The consultant mw herself is 'on call' for me (which I think is pretty amazing) so that means at least one familiar face in any case.

Right, I'm starting a new thread - back with a link in a sec
