I would of been rude to her too silly girl.

LadyLazarus · 15/08/2005 16:44

I have been getting some funny 'period pain' type things as well, perhaps I mistook it for constipation / toilety type pains (as not really constipated)... Maybe I have been having BH after all, just always assumed they'd hurt!

Boompi - I felt like sleeping ALL DAY yesterday! I slept fairly ok overnight, but then had 2 naps in the afternoon and just felt shattered all day, despite not doing a single thing

I agree on the difficulties of getting out of bed. I somehow manage to shuffle to the edge of the bed while still lying down, and then use one arm round the edge of the mattress to prop myself up. Most unconfortable tho!

mummyhill · 15/08/2005 16:48

Has anyone heard from STM? She posted regarding strong braxton hicks yesterday but have heard nothing since, hope she is ok.

Kiwifruit · 15/08/2005 17:16

OK, so maybe I am getting BH then - my bump does go hard, but doesn't hurt, so assumed that wasn't what it was. Although have been getting a few period like pains in the last few days.

RE getting out of bed - I sleep right on the edge of the bed (DH manages to push me there pretty much every night ). If I'm facing the edge of the bed (Lying on my side) I just drop my feet to the floor and then sit up. If I'm facing the middle of the bed, have to roll over (that's the tricky bit!), then sit up the same way. Kind of use the momentum of my feet dropping to the floor to help swing my torso up.

My big challenge is bending over to pick things up when I've dropped them on the floor - seem to be getting increasingly clumsy, so picking things up more and more often!!

My pet hate is the look of horror on people's faces when I tell them I've still got nearly 6 weeks to go until my due date, then they say 'you can't possibly get any bigger!'

LadyLazarus · 15/08/2005 17:20

KF - I'm with you on having problems picking things up off the floor! And trying to put pants + trousers on when standing up is almost impossible now!! Oh, the glamour!

Katts · 15/08/2005 17:27

I nearly cried the other day when I was walking down the street, looked down and saw my shoe was untied.

LadyLazarus · 15/08/2005 17:29

hahaha that made me chuckle. Now you know why I live in Birkenstocks

Redhelen · 15/08/2005 17:30

Katts - agree - any pregnant woman that can 'rush' to a train seat needs upmost respect! don't think I've had any BH?? - though strange things are going on in my tummy! Going to hospital to see new born baby Isabelle now!!!

Boompi · 15/08/2005 18:18

Laughed at your sad shoe tale Katts - how true! Nearly kill myself trying to put on knickers or shave legs in shower!!
that some woman feels put out that a pregnant woman stole her seat. Some people.

Boompi · 15/08/2005 18:19

Should probably point out that dont actually try put on knickers whilst in shower.

bubbles2904 · 15/08/2005 18:42

hope the baby is ok redhelen, what a lovely name. i have also had bh, they don't hurt though. i didn't get any with dd but i've been getting then since about 22 weeks with this bubba. definetly nesting now, have had new carpet in the lounge and lino in the kitchen and bathroom today so i've scrubbed everywhere downstairs clean even cupboards so i am now ready. my friend has just came round with her 2 week old ds, he's beautiful. she even let my dd hold him and she was so made up. she's going to be a great big sister!!!

Katts · 15/08/2005 19:15

I think the girl at work was just indignant that the pregnant lady was rude to her. She was happy to give her the seat just didn't see her there. Yeah Yeah Yeah! Heard it all before - on the 390 bus from Kings Cross. Every Single Day.

PiccadillyCircus · 15/08/2005 19:46

I've been having braxton hicks for ages - and at the moment my bump seems to be having one constant hick. This bump is a lot harder and tighter than DS was, but I was a swollen being with him and had loads of water retention so that's probably why.

I've also had some twinges in odd places; suppose the baby just stretches out somewhere and I get landed with whatever part of it it is shoved into me.

Boompi, I now have a mental image of you putting your knickers on whilst in the shower . To be honest for me just getting in and out of the shower is effort enough. And I think I am going to have to stop having baths unless DH is around to haul me out, or install an industrial haulage machine.

diane77 · 15/08/2005 20:12

evening all
got a bit of fright earlier i was tidying dd room and tried to get up off the floor when baby moved position of some part of its anatomy, it was really really sore it stayed like that for ages so i was stuck on all fours for 10 minutes tring to persuade it to move again dd thought this to be great fun mummy playing horsey!
im finding it sore round my rib cage when driving or sitting in the car for any length of time now too.

Redhelen · 15/08/2005 21:31

Hello!

Baby Isabelle was so cute - rather freaked me out going past the labour rooms and into the 'recovery after c-section bay' to see my friend! (scan tomomorrow!)

Really need to shave my legs and do the necessary to look half desent for scan - but every thing aches and feet are a long way away! Night night xxxxxzzzzzzzzzz

mummyhill · 15/08/2005 22:15

Diane77 - May need to train toddler to pick up after itself we are trying desperatly with dd to do this at the moment.

I however need to get dd to take a bath on her own as i nearly had to call dh up to get her and then me out of the tub this evening!!!!!!!

milward · 15/08/2005 22:34

kiwifruit - have been getting the aren't you huge comments since June. Some mums at school will be suprised to see me still preg in september!! Annoyed me how others think it ok to comment on my size - I'm huge when preg but don't want to be told this by people I don't know well.

KiwiKate · 16/08/2005 01:25

Sarahlal & Jessysmummy - I could have been writing your posts. Also really hoping that I will get excited about this baby at some stage. But exhaustion of looking after DS (and lack of sleep) and a more difficult pg this time around don't help. I'm the opposite of you Jessysmummy (hoping for a girl so that I can have an excuse not to only use DS's stuff for this baby!)

Kiwifruit - I use the same technique to get out of bed, but also use the arm that is on top of my body (the one not trapped under my side). I put the "top" hand on the bed in front of me, and push my upper body upwards (at the same time as the legs are swinging down like a pendulum and propelling me into a sitting position on the edge of the bed). The real trick is to wriggle into position at the edge of the bed before executing the manouvre, but it is by far the easiest way I've found of getting out of bed.

Regarding BH - I had them regularly with DS from 20 weeks and they HURT, HURT, HURT. With this baba I've had them much less and they have been painless - just a tightening of the bump (sometimes lasting for quite a while). Apparently this is good as it tones and prepares your muscles for childbirth.

Boompi (and others) what are raspberry leaf tablets (or tea) for? [stupid emoticon]

Milward at people commenting on your size. Anyone else found that even total strangers seem to think that just because you are pg they can comment on your size, looks, due date etc? A pg friend of mine even had a strange man stroking her bump rather affectionately saying "hello baby"! I told her that if it had been me I would have bitten him!

pooka · 16/08/2005 07:24

Raspberry leaf tablets/tincture/tea supposed to soften and prepare the cervix, apparently. I drank gallons of the stuff with dd (had it iced, with lemon and got used to the "muddy" taste). Not sure if it helped bring on labour, but I did dilate fairly quickly once I got going.
I'm really touchy regarding people prodding me. Obviously don't mind with dd and dh, wouldn't mind if my mum wanted to (she doesn't!) but my father and step-mother do it, and I can't stand it. Wierd.
Slept better last night.
Midwife dropped off equipment (ominously metallic jangling from the bag) yesterday. All feeling quite real now. MUST get my bag/clean duvet/grubby duvet/bed protectors etc ready. DM has dd today so perfect opportunity but somehow I just can't get organised. Feel quite resentful that dh doesn't seem to have done ANYTHING constructive (like going into loft and getting me things). He's been very wrapped up in work, but I think that's because last time he only ended up being off work for about 3 days, with constant interrupting phone calls, whereas this time I've put my foot down and said that he really needs to be off for longer. It's tricky because it's a family firm, and sometimes that actually makes it more difficult to have time off particularly as his brother is a workaholic who was in work pretty much from day 1. Anyway - rant over.
dd being lovely generally. Have bought her a Thomas the Tank engine track and carry case "from the baby".

mummyhill · 16/08/2005 08:44

Morning all.

Sarahlal,Jessysmummy, kiwikate - Am with you on not being able to get excited with chasing round after a toddler, sleepless nights etc am hoping this will change fairly soon cause at the momment i am just really fed up.

Milward - I have been getting comments on my size since day one and I agree it is hurtful why can't they all just leave well enough alone? I wouldn't mind so much but i am smaller than i was when i carried dd due to the weight loss from getting thyroxine levels right at long last. How are you getting on with the thyroxine now? Have you noticed much difference?

Pooka - The bump becomming public property has allways annoyed the hell out of me. I am very funny about having my personal space invaded at the best of time but am horrendous when pregnant. I tell people off for touching without asking, don't mind my mum, DH, and DD but anyone else can take a flying jump thanks very much. I tollerate the midwife cause i know it has to be done but i still cringe even though i know what to expect and why she has to do it.

Am going to try and do some housework this morning then if the rain holds off will take dd to the park again this afternoon to run off some of her excess energy.

andif · 16/08/2005 09:06

Morning! I thought raspberry leaf tablets were to improve quality of contractions. Took it religiously with ds1 and midwife was amazed that contractions were off their scale!! Only thing I hadn't considered was that strong contractions=lots of pain!! Have started taking tabs now when I remember!

Boompi · 16/08/2005 09:13

What dose of RLT tabs do you take Andif?

sarahhal · 16/08/2005 09:19

Jessysmummy, Mummyhill, Kiwikate - so glad to hear that it's not just me! Had a really bad night last night with DS - we've been trying him in a big bed for a couple of weeks now but last night he was up every couple of hours and actually cried for nearly two! What has happened to our little boy who used to sleep 7 until 7 until a couple of months ago! I've decided that it might be a backwards step, but he's going back in his cot as the thought of getting up to feed the baby then getting up to sort out DS really tips me over the edge. He's 2 and 4 months and I've read lots of posts here that lots of people wait until nearer to three.

Regarding our bump size - it's my Gran who is the most insensitive of all. I posted a couple of months ago that at at family funeral she declared really loudly " Well she lost lots of weight for her wedding but you can see she's put it all back on" ( got married four years ago!!) On Sunday I bumped into her and she declared " Good God, you're heavier than Mike Tyson" Had she not been an 85year old gran then my reaction may well have been that of Mike Tyson!!

Just off to docs to beg for something to help heartburn and acid!

Kiwifruit · 16/08/2005 09:19

Morning! Has anyone had a recurrence of morning sickness in the 3rd trimester? I generally feel queasy when I get out of the shower, and this morning actually spent 20 mins hanging over the loo. Very annoying, as didn't have ms at all in 1st trimester!!!

Boompi - am very impressed that you even attempt to shave your legs! I have resorted to paying someone to wax mine. Actually, must make sure I get legs and bikini line waxed before the big day, and pedicure... Might as well have glamorous feet for the occassion, as I doubt any other part of me will be looking particularly glam !!

LadyLazarus · 16/08/2005 10:27

KF - I actually vomited a couple of weeks ago, but fortunately it was a one-off. Have been feeling a bit queasy sometimes, but nothing like as bad as first trimester, so thankful for that!

Shocked at andif's thing about raspberry leaf making contractions MORE painful...I thought it was more to help 'ripen' the cervix before the birth and to have an easier labour... There's an article here.
