KF - glad to hear all was well in the end. Bit worrying when you are made to wait that long tho... Yeah, no matter how many signs and times people are told about the number of visitors, they just seem to ignore it! Its pretty annoying for the staff as well, as you can't get to the patient to do your work!

Think I might order a TENS machine, like jessysmummy said, it's not too expensive, and might give you a few hours distraction / relief if nothing else.

Went for a toddle round Portobello Market this morning, only I think I walked a bit too far as now my back is killing me! Any excuse to lie on the sofa with the papers

Redhelen · 13/08/2005 18:37

Kiwifruit - Glad every thing was ok in the end - sorry you didn't get a chance to rest your feet! It's rainy and quite chilly here today (long may it last!) so my feet and hands are ok! Yes I must sort out a tens in next few days too!

mummyhill · 13/08/2005 20:04

How has everyone been today? I have been driven mad by DD. We made a chocolate cake this morning whilst DH was out teaching karate. Then this afternoon as she was getting bored and doing everything other than what we asked we washed the car in the rain. We are now trying to convince her that it is bed time.

Have felt as if someone is stabbing my pelvic floor today not too comfy. Plenty of movement from bump though so not too worried.

Redhelen · 13/08/2005 21:06

Hello!!

My ds has been rather a herbert today too - as the rain has stopped him playing outside.

Had very little sleep last night - so on my way to bed! - I have a scan on Tuesday to see if the consultant recommends another cs - or if I'm ok to deliver naturally - starting to worry (but trying hard not too!!) night night zzzxxx

ych · 14/08/2005 05:28

Can't sleep. Got up for the toilet at 4.30am and am now wide awake. My stomach was rumbling so loudly aswell, you'd think I'd not eaten for days. So just polished off a bowl of corn flakes and now have the kettle on.
Hope everything goes well with the consultant Redhelen.
Does anyone have any good idea's for thank you's for parents and pil? Both Mum's have been great, between both families we've not had to buy any big stuff and they're both always buying little things too like nappies and stuff for my hospital bag. We're going to get nice thank you cards once the baby is here but I just think it would be nice to give the Mum's something else. We'll never be able to repay them but want them both to know how much they're appreciated. Problem is, on a very tight budget so can't really afford much. Anyone got any idea's?

andif · 14/08/2005 05:56

Hi ych - also suffering sleeplessness. People keep (annoyingly) telling me it's good preparation, but I think the best preparation would be 9 hours sleep a night!! Thought I'd catch up on posts after doing a bit of admin!

ych · 14/08/2005 06:11

andif - people keep saying that to me too and laughing. They think it's funny! I know I'll be up a lot with the baby but I agree with you, I need my sleep now. Will no doubt have naps throughout the day.

andif · 14/08/2005 06:20

I'm getting so used to being up during the night that it's quite a relief when it's 5ish instead of 2ish! At least now it's light I get less wound up about being awake! Really shouldn't moan as kids have been staying with my parents for 3 nights (we pick them up today) so I have had plenty of daytime naps. Just worried about keeping this up for the next 5 weeks, especially with school holidays, ds2's birthday etc..... Think I might go back to bed now for a bit as head feeling very muzzy. Trouble is cup of tea seems to have woken up baby who is now doing gymnastics..aaggh!

Ragtaggle · 14/08/2005 06:43

Just wanted to add my sympathy/empathy with those who are fed up of getting up in the night to pee. I often have trouble going back to sleep again but managed it last night. Only to hear my dd (22 months) crying at 5.50am. I went in and she said 'mummy-done poo'. Which she had so I changed her and got her some milk and tried to leave it at that. But after she had finished her milk (in her bed)she howled until I went and got her. We are now downstairs with her watching beebies on the sofa.

I am due at the end of September and have just finished work. I'm finding running around after toddler increasingly difficult and these sleepless nights aren't helping at all

mummyhill · 14/08/2005 09:48

Sympathy to all those early morning poster. I had a bad night last night but if i try escaping downstarirs for a bit DH wakes up and panics so I spent most of the night staring into the dark waiting till DD stardted moving round so I had an excuse other than popping to the loo to get up. 23 days left to go and i have officially had enough, I want this baby out my back is killing me so are my hips and I want to at least be able to get comfy in bed so i can get some rest, sleep wuld be a bonus but if peanut is anything like it's big sister I haven't got a chance in hell so will settle for rest!!!!!

YCH - Regarding thank you gift, why don't you wait till you get home then make a plaster of paris imprint of babies hands and feet to go with a samll bunch of flowers that way they have something to keep as well.

ych · 14/08/2005 10:01

mummyhill - that's a good idea. That would be nice in a little gift bag and as you say it would be something for them to keep and it wouldnt cost too much - fantastic! Sympathise with the back and hip pain.

mummyhill · 14/08/2005 10:27

Prolapsed discs are not fun at the best of times but even worse when pregnant and allergic to paracetamol. Will have to see if i can start taking my usual meds when breast feeding, if not may have to resort to the formula (sorry bump).

Redhelen · 14/08/2005 11:21

Like you I get really annoyed with people telling me the lack of sleep is preparing for the baby - I've had sleep difficulties since 25 weeks - I wont be prepared - I'll be a zombie!! Think I may deck the next person who says this - whilst grinning!!!! I'm also fed up with being told my bump is the largest any one has ever seen and will I explode?

Oh well - half way to September!!!(ish!)

YCH - I think a nice 'baby style' picture frame to add a picture of baby plus a new grandparents card - is always a a special present when you have your first child.

mummyhill · 14/08/2005 11:42

I don't need preparing for sleepless nights, been there and wore the sick stained t shirt with pride!!!! We all need sleep now cause we ain't going to get any in a couple of weeks time!!!!!!

bubbles2904 · 14/08/2005 11:59

yikes mummyhill, i can't believe we're all going to have our babies in a couple of weeks

LadyLazarus · 14/08/2005 12:22

Was just wondering when you can start to take Raspberry Leaf extract (tea / tablets)... I always thought it was quite late on, but have just read several articles on the net that say it's safe from 32 weeks onwards....?

Redhelen · 14/08/2005 14:12

LL - Raspberry Leaf tea from 37 weeks - or so I've read!

I'm ready to drink buckets of from next Monday!!!

mummyhill · 14/08/2005 19:43

OK here goes rasberry leaf tea, curry, fresh pinapple, long walks, plenty of you know what and if that doesn't work how soon can i use clary sage massage? I really have had enough of the constant back pain and being unable to get comfy.

diane77 · 14/08/2005 20:34

i can empathize with the lack of sleep at the moment average toilet visits at the moment is 2 per night!
Where can you buy raspberry leaf tea? Ive heard it tastes pretty foul though.
37 weeks today baby's kick have become quite painful and s/he seem so like pushing againgst my hip bone making my tumy into some interesting shapes.

milward · 14/08/2005 23:51

No sleep either - get up to go to the loo 2 or 3 times in the night plus since last night have leg cramp again. Last night during the 2nd cramp actually thought it better to be in labour than have to endure it. It was awful. I get cramp from compression on nerves - nothing to be done....Will see my physio on wednesday.

NewChallengeforJen · 15/08/2005 05:45

Hello All

Am 36 weeks (today) and I am the insomniac from hell. Went to sofa (bed just not an option) at midnight last night and am still wide awake now. Have yet to have even a little bit of sleep. Have watched TV, played on the net etc etc. It is such a nightmare. Walked miles on the beach yesterday and in the Brecons the day before, but sleep still a fantasy. Think I am really nervous re giving birth? Am only 5ft with size 2 feet. Baby really obviously dropped yesterday which was quite exciting. Am a bit worried that I will be like this after the birth as well. Am going to attempt to close my eyes now. Jen x

KiwiKate · 15/08/2005 06:48

Saw mw today. Says baby is posterior! Eeek. Have been fairly good (or so I thought) about not reclining etc. Now have to do all the optimal foetal positioning exercises - many of which are not compatible with my spd!

bubbles2904 · 15/08/2005 07:13

morning everyone, well i have decided to get up now as i have traipsed to the toilet for the 4th time and haven't got the energy to walk back up the stairs.
newchallengeforjen, are you new? i don't recall seeing you here before??? may just be my pg brain though so welcome if you are new and hi if you're not LOL

LadyLazarus · 15/08/2005 09:06

NewchallengeforJen - Welcome!

Diane - I got my Raspberry Leaf tablets from Holland and Barrett, didn't fancy the tea. I thought it was 37 weeks as well, not sure why some websites are saying earlier tho...

Right! I'm off to order my TENS machine!

Boompi · 15/08/2005 09:53

Hi Jen - welcome.

I am 37 weeks today so going to walk (hor round trip) to nearest Holland and Barratt for Raspberry leaf tablets this afternoon and perhaps a hot thai curry for dinner?! {grin]
Also cant sleep - trying to lie on left in 'recovery positon' but hips hurt too much and roll onto back to whole time.

Glad all well KF.
