halo it's not often I feel the need to congratulate people on feeling crap, but it's most definitely a good sign for you.

CONGRATULATIONS

WorrisomeHeart · 24/07/2010 15:43

Yayyyyyyy!! Congrats halo, such fantastic news!!

NovemberAli · 24/07/2010 16:03

Congratulations Halo, really happy for you!

OneOfEight - I'm not sure the growing pains ever really stop, I seem to have had random twinges the whole way through! If it's concerning you have a word with your midwife, who I'm sure will put your mind at rest.

So glad to hear Splodge is doing well Fudge

Hope you?ll be able to cope better at work now Hermya, I know what you mean about not wanting to finish early - I think I?d drive myself mad within a couple of days!

I?m with you on the puffiness Ozzie - I?ve just been living in flip flops, not good for my feet I know!

Good news on your scan Mumnerves - why do you have to book in for your two week overdue date now? Is that the policy in your area? Am convinced I?ll be overdue myself to balance out all these earlier babies that have been arriving

mumnerves · 24/07/2010 21:31

bunny chocolate and sand sound like lovely colours, just the sort of thing we want for nursery. Getting it painted next month and then re-carpeted before thinking of a definate colour scheme, but lovely neutral colours like that are just what I want. Glad LO scan was ok.

oneof8 I'm 20 weeks and I don't think the cramps really go as you're continuously growing but you just get more used to it and know there's nothing wrong. Stretching soon becomes really uncomfortable, you'll soon realise you can't 'suck' your stomach in anymore and go through gaps you used to be able to. It was around that time that I realised I couldn't really stretch properly anymore.

Novemberali We had to book for our overdue date because that will be the next time we go to the hospital....scary thought!!! We are going for ante-natal classes but this is the last time we're seeing a mw at the hosp. It's all go next time!!!

Was anyone else amazed at what they can see at the 20 week scan?? We got to see the 4 chambers of the heart beating and got a fab scan pic of Lo's spine!! We didn't find sex out, as wanted a surprise but am now getting so curious that I keep analysing scan pics

Is anyone else thinking of doing eco nappies?
Was just looking at them and my council actually either give each mum a free pack or a voucher for money back. Saw some newborn nappies reduced at my local boots so will use them to start off with but am quite keen to use reusables or do you all think I'm mad??! honest answers appreciated

Have a lovely weekend ladies!! x

Spirael · 25/07/2010 10:14

Congratulations, Halo! I'm so pleased!! What's your EDD?

OneOf8, don't worry too much about cramps or lack thereof. I barely had any stomach cramps at all, until labour! The uncomfortable feeling when stretching your stomach out is normal, don't force it too much or you could pull a muscle, which'd be a bit uncomfortable for a few days.

mumnerves, Leeds do the sample pack or money off for reusable nappies too. I went for the sample pack and got two cloth nappies of different sorts with ten liners. I've pre-washed and dried them the appropriate number of times and they're sat on the shelf ready to go...but I've not actually tried using them yet.

Currently we're using disposables, mostly because Mindy needs changing every hour or two during the day then maybe once overnight. Also because with all the discount vouchers I've received, I've yet to pay full price for any nappies.

Once she gets a bit bigger and can go for longer at a time, then I might give the cloth nappies a go. They'll also fit a bit better once she's bigger, at the moment she's quite long and skinny so I worry they'll leak around the legs.

However, she's almost out of the size 1 nappies now and already grown out of the newborn sized clothes. My tiny baby is becoming not-so-tiny! (I don't know why I'm surprised, given the amount of milk she guzzles through... )

sazziej · 25/07/2010 10:45

Congratulations Halo

mumsnerves Lancashire offer a £45 voucher towards reuseable nappies. I'd already bought mine but am going to use the voucher to get some more wraps / fleece liners.

I've also washed them the required number of times and they're ready to go. I tried them out on my nephew (aged 1) and I was very impressed with how they worked, my sister-in-law said she was 'surprisingly impressed'!

mumnerves · 25/07/2010 11:29

spirael we're in Leeds too, Yeadon area
I know someone who would prob never use reusables and am going to be cheeky and ask if she will apply for the free pack for me so I can try them out before deciding which brand to use, then I can use the £30 off coupon towards those.

sazzie which brand did you decide to go for?

Spirael · 25/07/2010 11:46

Oh, you're not that far from me then, mumnerves. I'm based over in Bramley. I used to work up in Yeadon before I changed jobs a few years ago.

I think it was a Tots Bots and a Bum Genius, the two sample nappies I got from the council, if that helps at all.

Hermya321 · 25/07/2010 12:07

Mumsnerves I'm just gearing up to start buying my stash of reusables. I personally find it a bit of a waste to spend lots of money on disposables to just then throw them away. I know you do a bit of extra washing when you use reusables, but I can always sell the nappies on or reuse them on a later child. So I figure I'll be up on the deal whatever I do.

Oneofeight I've had growing pains right the way through, I just think it's one of those things.

Spireal My friend had her baby girl a couple of weeks back, she's breastfeeding as well. She's now six weeks and has already a bit of a chunky monkey, she's very happy on the old breastmilk but Mum was very surprised at how fast she put on the weight.

Sazzie Oh you're in Lancs, we're just over the border from you. Thats quite cool.

Muser · 25/07/2010 14:01

Hello frolickers. How are we all?

I am 9 weeks today and still feeling sick, didn't throw up yesterday morning or this morning, but I threw up last night as I was so tired. Weekends are normally better for me.

I was a bit naughty and bought some baby clothes. They were on sale and so cute and I couldn't resist. They are hidden in the back of the wardrobe and I'm hoping I haven't tempted fate.

Comedy moment of yesterday was my SIL telling my 4 year old nephew what the scan pic we were looking at was. He looked very confused and then asked if it had a head! I am now imagining poor headless Bob.

luckyseven · 25/07/2010 14:09

Hello,

so delighted about halo's news, we joined the frolickers about the same time and used to be cycle buddies and it is great to keep the thread going into 2011! There have been lots of new frolickers in the last week which is great news (might put them onto future grads if it hasn?t been done already),, it seems that there is always at least one bp when new people join so long may it continue!

sazzie mumnerves and spirael i am impressed with all the research on eco nappies , it isn't something i had thought about but will put it on my list of things to research!

I have my 20 wk scan on Wednesday afternoon so am excited and apprehensive all at once. At my 10 week scan they gave me a dvd called from bump to breastfeeding and i never watched it so thought i should do my homework whilst dh slept off his hangover this morning. Has anyone else been given it to watch? I cried a few times in it because i am a bit emotional at the minute and whilst it was informative it was a bit full on ?propaganda?.

Our hospital don?t give the option of finding out the sex (lawsuits when they got it wrong!) but even if we had the option we want it to be a surprise. Depending on the position of the little one do you think our untrained eyes are likely to see anything that might give it away?

We are getting some work done on our house this week as we are improving rather than moving so getting lovely walnut floors down in our room and the baby?s room as i have spilt many shades of makeup and fake tan on our cream carpet and have decided that flooring is a more wipe clean option for the future nursery so loads of sorting for me to do this afternoon and lots of furniture shifting for dh when he re-enters the land of the living! He did do lots yesterday whilst i was out catching up with friends so i won?t crack the whip too hard.
Can?t decide to wait and buy bedding when the baby is here or to get this one and have the room all sitting pretty? Do you think this is neutral or more suited for a boy or a girl? hideaway bay bedding

bunny thanks for the explanation of the raspberry leaf tea, it might be worth having a go and will pick some up the next time i am near a Holland and Barrett to keep in the cupboard for later this year. Your bugaboo is exactly the same as the one my friend in Australia has, her husband loves it. I too need to go and up the bra size, i am dreading it!

Have been summoned to come and do some room clearing so have to rush off but will try and get on later to catch up more and add the newbies to the future grads list.

sazziej · 25/07/2010 14:49

mumsnerves i went for tots bots bamboozle stretchy in the end, they are bamboo so do take longer to dry but are more absorbent. I didn't get any of the first size as i plan to use disposables for the first month... you need seperate wraps but I got a starter pack from The Baby Show at The NEC which came with a few wraps, I'm going to use my voucher to get a few more.

There are lots of websites with information on reuseables - worth spending a bit of time doing some research.

You may find there is somewhere is your area that does Nappicinos - a sort of coffee morning where you get to look at / feel/ talk about various brands.

The ones I bought were from www.thecottonnappycompany.co.uk.... hope this helps

luckyseven · 25/07/2010 15:26

I have updated the list to add in the future grads that have recently joined the thread and did a quick tidy by comparing the other list and removing some long term MIAs, didn't realise how complicated it would be and hope i haven't messed up or offended anyone.

Halo massive congratulations I'm so thrilled for you!

luckyseven good luck with your scan on Wed and your house remodelling - we are having our bathrooms done up at the moment. It's a bit too close to the due date for my liking, but apparently they will be finished by mid next week.....fingers crossed!

I only have 5 days left of work as well, yippee! So next week while we still have workmen in I'm planning on getting "stuff" done, like washing, making some food portions, a big food shop, picking up my TENS machine etc. Then the following week when I should have the house to myself I intend to have some lie ins, laze around reading a book, get my hair cut etc. Should be very nice.

We have now finished the baby shopping as well which is pleasing. Picked up the moses basket and car set on Saturday. I need to wash everything now, but at least I know that we have everything we need in the house.

I also keep forgetting that I'll probably be in hospital for 4-5 days as well as they seem to keep you in longer over here, so DH can always do any last cleaning and tidying around the house

I'm excited now though. I feel relatively prepared and am just looking forward to getting work finished, getting the house back to normality and focussing on the new baby!

Ozziegirly · 26/07/2010 00:53

Car seat not set

superpenguin · 26/07/2010 09:26

Morning all.

8 weeks today and still feeling rubbish

Big CONGRATULATIONS to halo!!!

lucky it never occured to me that the hospital might not tell you the sex if you wanted to know!

Muser that is a little early for the shopping but those things are very cute, so understandable!

mumnerves · 26/07/2010 12:10

Spirael those weren't the brands on the leeds.gov website, so I guess they just send you whatever they have in stock at the time. There's a baby shop on Stanningley rd that sells lots of diff types of disposable nappies, was going to pop in there to have a nosy at some point.

Hermya My thoughts exactly! There's a nearly new sale in september near me and was wondering if i may pick up some bargains there too or unused disposable nappies.

luckyseven good luck with the scan, it really is an amazing experience. You can see if it's a girl or boy when they go downwards from the crown and get to the pelvic area quite clearly. The radiographer turned the screen away from us when she went towards that region. Also if it's a boy and he has
his legs straight you can quite clearly see his bits. I think that bedding is lovely BTW. I'd say more suitable for a girl

sazzie toptots was one of the brands I was considering. The cream one is just so sweet and they have some lovely jazzie ones too!

Ozziegirl how exciting! Am quite envious as I've still got 3 months or so till I finish work but can't wait!! I've been looking at a lovely recliner swivel chair so I can relax in it before and breastfeed after. I think too right that DH should be doing the cleaning for whilst you're in hosp

superpenguin sorry that you still feel rubbish, hang in there you probably only have 4-6 weeks and then you'll be feeling great. That was one keeping me going. Also at that point, you'll be able to feel LO wriggling in your belly which is a lovely feeling. The other thing I kept telling myself was that the feeling rubbish bit meant that my hormones were at a good level

halo I know I said this on the other thread but really am SO pleased for you!!!

fudgecat · 26/07/2010 20:21

Hi all

Hope you all had good weekends?

Went for the scan today and splodge has put on a little more weight but not as much as last week. I know I should be happy about any weight gain but I was really hoping that the gain would be equal or more than last week

Got another scan next Monday and that seems so far away. Just seems so unfair, I?m 27 weeks tomorrow and it?s horrid to know that if I went into labour now they would not help as splodge is still too small.

Hermya321 · 26/07/2010 21:30

Fudge Splodge is doing so so well and look how far you've both come. How much weight is there left to go? I know it's been such a bad time for you, but we're all here rooting for you both. I hope your Dh is doing well as well.

OP posts:
addie81 · 26/07/2010 21:56

Fudge - great news that spodge has gained a bit of weight. Try not to be disappointed that its less than last week - so long as spoldge keeps gaining bit by bit then that's the main thing. You seem to be coping so well, but I am sure its harder than you make it seen!

I have had a rubbish few days - fell down the stairs on Friday night landing on my right hand side which is where Pip always lies. My sister (doctor) came straight round and could hear a heartbeat and feel movement, although I couldn't feel any movement. We phoned the hospital who said that there was no need to come in providing there was a heartbeat and no cramping or bleeding. My sister was keen to go in anyway, but the MW told her on the phone that they were totally slammed in triage and there was no chance of us being seen for at least 5 hours unless there was any cramping or bleeding. We decided to stay put and over the weekend I could feel a few little movements but I felt that they were much weaker and felt very different to before. I went into hospital today and they scanned, and the baby is fine, but she has flipped round to breach, having been perfectly head down for the last few weeks. I think the sudden movement of the fall caused her to move. the MW today said that she might move back to head down, but because she is quite big, there is not that much room so she may stay breach till term which would mean I would have to have a section.
I am waiting for another ECG because we have a family history of a syndrome which can cause your aorta to rupture in labour. My last ECG was ok so waiting till 32 weeks to see if there has been any change. If the aorta has dilated at all then I will have to have either an induction or a c-section at 37 weeks. If its an induction I will have to have an epidural before they even start to induce me because that reduces the blood pressure fluctuations which are caused by the contractions and which put the strain on the aorta.
Anyway - sorry for long moan. Am just really fed up because I wanted to be able to make choices in labour as I went along, and I wanted to avoid an epidural, but it seems like all of the decisions might be made for me!

Ozziegirly · 27/07/2010 00:38

addie you poor thing, both falling and the aorta problem don't sound ideal. It's good that Pip is well cushioned in there though, and hopefully he'll flip around again. Mine flipped at (IIRC) 32 weeks - it felt like it was a bit of a struggle for him as I could clearly feel elbows and knees poking out, but he shifted round and has stayed head down ever since, from being transverse before.

Fudge at least Splodge has gained weight, even if it's not quite as much as you hoped for. How much does Splodge need to put on before the Drs will intervene if you go into labour? And when do they think that will happen? I just can't imagine what you're going through, being 27 weeks in and still not knowing if everything is going to be ok. You're in my thoughts and so is your little fighter.

WorrisomeHeart · 27/07/2010 13:16

addie so sorry to hear of your fall and the resulting turn in position. There's plenty of time for the LO to turn and at least you know you're being well looked after - I completely understand your frustration at not being able to choose how you give birth. Glad the baby is ok though.

fudge I second the others - a weight gain is brilliant, and it's fab that splodge is hanging on in there.

Knackering week at work so only got 5 mins to post - am 29 weeks today so very excited about moving into the 30's!

OneOf8 · 27/07/2010 17:35

Hi All!

Fudge Splodge is doing so so well with weight gain - and you are doing fantastic just getting out of bed in the morning - I don't know how you do it. This is good news re the increase tho admittedly I know I would feel the same and really admire you (and Mr Fudge) for coping this well.

Did they update the expected timeframe for when the weight would be where they wanted? I know they have given a guidline previously, but wondered if they had given any more guidance?

If would rather not say as concentrating on one day at a time, its only because we care, and you don?t have to answer x x x

Hermya hope everything is better at work now?

Mumnerves you made me laugh imagining you trying to analysis the scan! We are not going to find out either, as to us it does not matter ? first G child on both sides, and the last sibling babies were a while ago ? so no clothes with the potential of re-using etc. I personally like the idea of the WOW factor of finding out on the day ? but still if OH said he wanted to know, don?t think it would take a lot to persuade me as the advantages are you can start using a name and personalising everything, buying clothes and toys?

Spireal Glad to hear Mindy is continuing to be adorable! So many people have said not to bother with new born as a size, and to jump straight into 0-3? but they are sooo cute that small!!

Muser When we told OH Aunt and her boys, the youngest (4 yrs old) asked ?What is it? I answered a baby (as wasn?t sure if he knew what the picture was) ? he said ?No, what IS it, me or you? (girl or boy - he uses "me" for boy and the nearest female in pointing distance for girl) I said we wont know until the baby arrives. ?When do you get it? I said after Christmas. Next question ?I might ask mummy if she wants one from Father Christmas coz she didn?t get her computer this time as (older brother) got one instead? Now that was magical logic ? Cant have a Wii for Xmas? Don?t worry, Father Christmas will sort you out (after a whisky or two!)!!

LuckySeven Good luck for tomorrow!!

Ozzie Not long now! - I don?t finish until Christmas? although I stop the other job sooner (slip risk etc at best of times, let alone when impersonating a boiled sweet!)

Superpenguin I am starting to feel better as of last week, however still get the odd wave of MS ? only took till 14th week to calm down, but my sickness started later ? Funny how we look out for these signs and symptoms and then regret it once they are here! I was asking after the growing ?pains? (mine again weren?t that bad at any point ? but could feel something going on in there!) as seemed to have stopped, but then last night LO felt like making up for it for a couple of hours (whilst I was trying to sleep!)? although has again stopped today. Not worried, appears to be no rhyme or reason to this pregnancy malarkey!

Addie81 hope you are ok, and glad to hear everything is ok with Pip, other than the turning.

Hi to everyone else, and thank you those who shared comments about the growing pains etc. Its just nice to know its ok not to feel things in line with the text books you know?

My news is we had the 16 week appointment today (at 15+2) and heard the heartbeat for the first time. I had psyc?d myself up not to hear it to avoid panic if the MW couldn?t find it ? so when we heard it was wonderful ? it then made me feel a little freaked out there really is a mini me in my belly!!! I thought the scan would have made this sink in but it was only today it really sunk in! Think its because it was more a feeling of relief at the scan everything looked ok (after the bleed etc) so this was a much less stressful build up and was able to enjoy it more ? if this makes sense?

Enjoy your evenings - I am off for a walk with a friend as my legs decided they want in on the "fatty" action - and given I cant diet (never have been able to and cant try till baby is at least 6 weeks old - or so the excuse goes!) decided increasing gentle exercise instead of trying to keep up with training in the water a couple of tmes a week might result in it not getting to much worse. If this plan fails, I wont be able to see my thighs without a mirror once I get the bump properly, so will divert to this as a plan "B"!!

Hermya321 · 27/07/2010 18:58

Oh Addie you poor thing, I'm sorry things don't seem to be going your way. I'm glad they're looking after you though, even if they do give you an induction or a c-section there are things that you can still have a say in like skin to skin and cord clamping and the like. I hope though that in your case these things aren't needed.

Worrisome It feels like the final countdown doesn't it.

Mumnerves I think I was looking at going to that sale, can't decide if I'll be too big to heave myself around though.

Oneof8 I think you still need to get one or two newborn things as you really have no idea how big they're going to be when they're born. We've got a real mixture, but from experience we tend to be bought newborn and we've bought 0 - 3 months. I;ve not been back to work yet as I'm on leave so I'm just enjoying the break.

So I'm now 27 weeks and I really can't believe it, I still don't look huge (not that bothered though) but I now have a proper bump which is nice. I'm starting to get prods back from DS when I poke him, it's so nice and it feels like I'm interacting with him which makes things a bit more real.

I'm on leave at the moment, but when I go back next week I'll be on reduced hours so I'm hoping it'll help out big time with the SPD. The most annoying thing is that EVERYBODY keeps telling me to go off early. It's so annoying, its all well and good for them to say these things but I've got to live with that decision both financially and mentally. Thing is the more they say it, the more I feel like digging my heels in. I'm not going to be stupid and stay on longer, but if I need to I'll be going off sick. They can't make me go on ML until 36 weeks and I'm not going until I have to. I get precious little full pay as it is and I'd rather have that for when LO is here not before. Stupid people!! Anyway, sorry for ranting, it has just annoyed me.

I went into Mamas and Papas today and bought my first little toy for LO, it's really cool. It's just a soft toy that you can put on the pram but when you shake it, it makes a chiming noise and it was 20% off. Can't say fairer than that really can you.

In other news, I'm off to see Wicked tomorrow with DH and we're going to treat ourselves to a nice lunch out as well. I can't wait, it's going to be brilliant!!

Hope you're all well!!

thanks for the kind words girls - am feeling a bit better today. hope all well with everyone else. Worriesome - I hadn't noticed till today how close our due dates are! I am 30 weeks on Thursday so we are just a few days apart. I wonder who will drop first! If I do have to have an early induction or epidural I will probably beat you to it - otherwise it could be very close!
