Just wanted to send my love to bellaby on this thread too and also it reminded me that I never thanked everyone here for their kind messages here after my early mc (not a chemical pregnancy - i'm with you there Spirael) I couldn't face this thread for a while after as it made me too sad about what could have been and a little too. I'm much better now and didn't want your messages to go unnoticed.

Spirael You in particular said some very kind words. Thanks very much, they really helped.

I hope everyone else is well

chancewouldbeafinething · 10/06/2010 19:23

bellaby so sorry to hear your news, i hope you and DH take the time to deal with this and be good to each other. red wine sounds like a good idea.

I hope you are back here soon xxxxx

aly323 · 10/06/2010 19:57

Bellaby, I too am so very sorry to hear your news. Having been through it as well, I absolutely second everything Spireal says. My emotions were up and down for awhile after the loss. Some days were easier than others. If you feel like joining a new thread, I actually found the just miscarried thread to be very helpful- I can't remember the exact name, it was on the conception page. I also caught again right away (not even a bleed in between), although I won't feel all that secure for a few more weeks.

Ozzie don't stress too much about your test. My Dr. told me 2/3 of the women who fail the screening test actually pass the second test. Of course, I wasn't lucky enough to be one of those... Also, most women are able to get things in good order with just a few minor dietary changes- often just cutting out white starches is enough. In my case, I already ate healthy and am thin and active. I just have a predisposition to diabetes. I wouldn't have known this had they not automatically done the testing. Now, I'm really glad that I know and can be prepared. Also, I shoot myself with insulin 4 times a day and am being completely honest when I say that it isn't bad. It's the forcing myself to eat that's killing me right now. Good luck with the test!

pixiestix · 10/06/2010 20:22

Oh Bella, I'm so so sad for you
Hopefully both you and Halo will be back with us in just a few short weeks.

fudgecat · 10/06/2010 20:23

so sorry to hear your sad news bellaby take care of yourself and dont rush back to work if you dont feel up to it.

aly well done on managing the diabetes, it must be hard to get used to a lot of new rules to live by.

I saw this today and have decided i want a cute baby like this!!!

mumnerves · 10/06/2010 20:49

Bellaby so sorry about your news You've been given such good advice so far, I just wanted to say I hope you'll get another BFP really soon ((hugs))

chalky keeping my fingers crossed for you! x

Sorry about the quick post guys, thanks everyone for the seabands suggestion, they really do work when I remember to put them on
Still shattered so just going to say a quick hope everyone else is ok and a hello wave to all of you x

bunnygirl80 · 10/06/2010 23:55

bellaby so sorry to hear your sad news Take care of yourself, hopefully you'll be back here very soon.

ozzie it's sounding promising for your DH on the job front. Good luck for your fasting glucose test.

worrisome hope you're enjoying yourself in NZ. Varicose veins in unusual places are definitely one of the things nobody tells you could happen before you get pg - at least there was a simple explaination for your bleeding

spirael sorry but I had to laugh at the thought of you getting stuck between two cars

fudge good luck with your hippo baby..I imagine something like that might be a bit of a squeeze on the way out

aly good luck with your scan today

I've managed to get yet another cold - I blame all my patients who thinks it's ok to turn up to appointments while they're ill and cough all over me. I spent all of yesterday lying on the sofa feeling sorry for myself, with a pounding headache. Then DH arrived home from work, announced he had a bit of a stuffy nose, and proceeded to lie down and watch me cook his dinner. Is a little bit of TLC when I'm feeling rubbish really too much to ask?

Ozziegirly · 11/06/2010 03:55

Bellaby I am so sorry to hear your news. Take care of yourself xxx Hope to see you back here really soon.

aly thanks for your message - I had the fasting test this morning, it was fine actually. The initial blood test (taken before the sugary drink) was a normal 5.5 so I am just waiting to hear back from the bloods taken at the end of the test.

As you say, aly I am also a normal weight and pre pregnancy was pretty active and sporty, and there is no diabetes in my family, so if I do have a predisposition to it later in life then I shall see this as a silver lining that I have found out now, so I can make whatever changes are necessary.

I'll let you know when I get the results back - I semi pleaded that it would be this afternoon as we have a public holiday here on Monday so it'll be 3 days of wondering otherwise.

Ozziegirly · 11/06/2010 07:45

Ah well, just got my results back and I do have GD. They came back as a really high 11.1 when they should be no higher than 7.8.

It is very weird to know something is wrong when you don't have a single symptom!

I get to see the diabetic nurse next week as well as an endocrinologist apparently. I have a feeling I'll go straight on insulin as I don't eat much sweet stuff anyway and am not overweight so I can't see that I can make a huge amount of changes to my diet to try to control it.

That's fine though, I'm not squeamish about injections or anything, and anything I need to do to look after the baby is fine by me.

bunnygirl80 · 11/06/2010 08:07

ozzie sorry your results have come back high. Hopefully you will be able to manage it with diet alone. Even though you already eat healthily you might be able to alter meal timings and food combos to help manage it. Like aly said often just adjusting the type of carbs you eat to make them as slowly digested as possible can be enough to get things under control.

Ozziegirly · 11/06/2010 08:28

Yes, I think I need to do some of my own research and of course the experts will be able to tell me what I should do.

It has all come as a bit of a surprise as I was having such a nice, straightforward and simple pregnancy and I feel a bit dissapointed that I'll probably be catapulted into "high risk" when i don't feel all that risky at all.

Ah well, off home now, enjoy the long weekend.

CaveMum · 11/06/2010 08:32

Hello ladies!

I've been lurking on here checking up on you all for a while and have resisted the temptation to post - until now!

Just wanted to say aly don't forget to let us know on the Frolicker conception thread how your scan goes today!

Also chance how exciting that you are going to Ascot! I've been to other meetings at Ascot but not Royal Ascot. My boss goes every year so someone has to man the office! I shall be watching it all on the BBC though - I recommend anyone else who can should also watch it, Tuesday to Saturday on BBC1 and 2! It's one of our best race meetings of the year, heck it's one of the best race meetings in the World!

Which day are you going on? Thursday by any chance (Ladies Day)? Let me know and I'll see if I can post some sneaky tips for you!

Right I better dash (very superstitious about posting on here!) Hope to see you all again in about October/November

chancewouldbeafinething · 11/06/2010 09:42

Ozzie i had a friend who was only allowed to eat all bran and brown rice and vegetables (might be slight exaggeration) for the last part of her pregnancy, for some reason they didnt want her to have the insulin. hopefully the nurse will be able give you some options.

bunny hope the cold passes quickly...i always find that if you tell DH you have a funny tummy they will usually jump to cook dinner so they dont end up sick too...might be worth a try next time?
glad to hear your boss is NOT an aussie, but he is still a DH!
I ordered the pod early as some of the sites that had it at the lowest price seem to sell out frequently, there was no need to rush as it was delivered already, mum has opened it and i am sure will have sheets and all sorts made in no time. She let on the other day that she had been shopping but wont tell me what she bought...so now of course its all i can think about! great that your mum is going to get it for you. One of things that i thought was good is that it is quite long so even if the baby is big it can stay there longer.

chalky & aly good luck for your tests today (fingers are crossed for you both)

pixie well at the moment its not very jet-set, hopefully after today i will be feeling more normal. DH is going to a beer fest tonight so i have a whole day of pampering and relaxing ahead...including a greys anatomy fest tonight!

lucky i managed to find a nice jade colour one from seraphine, i am only 5ft4 so i am waiting to see if it needs to be taken up. I really hope not, as i am running out of time

fudge hope the last few days before the scan go fast!

spirael that is a thought we will soon finally be able to get a park close to the shops! surely no one would say anything to you for parking there now? Sorry to hear George is growing, can i ask does he hurt?

worrisome glad to hear you are ok now, but that must have been a bit of a scare. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your time at home

roses i think you may have some competition for the longest posts now! hope your job situation works out

Hope everyone has a good day

chancewouldbeafinething · 11/06/2010 09:52

cavemum Sorry didnt see your post - I am going on Saturday...any tips would be great. my chinese friend says pregnant women are lucky, so i am hoping to win big!

pixiestix · 11/06/2010 11:39

Just dashing in to say good luck today Aly. Everything seems really positive so far, so I'm sure the news will be fantastic .

Spirael · 11/06/2010 12:45

There are quite a few of us now that have been through an early miscarriage, aren't there? It's sad in some ways, but in other ways I find it vaguely comforting to know I'm not alone in having gone through it. It does sadly seem to be surprisingly common!

I'm glad that some of my posts have been helpful to others. It really isn't a very nice thing to go through, so it makes me happy if I can help out at all.

I do think the term 'chemical pregnancy' should be banned though... It makes it sound like it was all just some kind of momentary hormonal imbalance, rather than physical trauma and a bereavement. But that's just my pet hate!

Anyway... Sorry to hear about the GD, Ozzie. Hopefully they'll be able to find some way to keep it under control that doesn't cause you too many issues. At least they've caught it nice and early, so everything should be ok.

I'm pretty lucky that George doesn't hurt at all, chance. I only really notice him when I'm cleaning up down there! Hopefully it'll stay that way, I eat plenty of fruit and my body seems to have gotten used to the iron tablets now, so my digestive system isn't running too sluggishly at the moment.

Not much else to report today... My last day in the office and I've pretty much got everything finished up already! So now I'm procrastinating over my last piece of work so I'm not left twiddling my thumbs for the entire afternoon.

fudgecat · 11/06/2010 12:47

fingers crossed for you today aly

Hermya321 · 11/06/2010 19:45

Hello everybody,

Thanks for your congrats, I've spent the last few days staring at cute little boy clothes on the internet. I've also managed to aquire myself a rather nice round of SPD as well. Spent the whole of last night in agony and then had to explain it to my boss this morning. I went to the Docs and got it sorted and then managed to get hold of one of the girls in my office who was a lot more clued up (in that she had suffered as well). Gosh when it rains it pours don't it.

On the plus side, I found that Glamour magazine had free full size Benefit products being given away with them this month. Cue £4 later and I am one badgal eyeliner and one eyebright up on the deal. They're both normally about £13 each in the shops. So ladies, if you want a cheap eyeliner go get Glamour mag this month. I would also recomend the Eyebright, I swear by that stuff.

Bellaby I am so so sorry, look after yourself.

Aly Fingers crossed!!

Ozzie That sucks, I hope they get you sorted in quick time.

Spirael Oh my gosh, it won't be long and you'll be holding your LO in your arms. Does that freak you out slightly? It does me, it's one thing being kicked occasionally it's quite another having a LO demanding your attention. (not to put you off or anything)

Bunny I hope your cold passes quickly and no a bit of TLC is not too much to ask. DH had cereal for his tea tonight, I had crumpets (we couldn't be bothered). Hows your boss been with you recently? Thank goodness for frothy hot chocolates eh.

Chance When you mentioned organic seed pods, I had this vision of you planting your baby. Dunno why, I think it's the three hours of sleep talking.

Chalky Oh no, any news? I'll be thinking of you.

Pixie I know it's wrong, but I did have to laugh at the thought of you and the Mum stood over the child telling him off for daring to try and use you as a cushion.

Lucky Aww thanks, I'm assuming your dahn sarth being chased by journos and how very celeb like . I'm assuming you escaped her in the end then. How did your Doctors appointment go?

Fudge Are you still in your jeans as well? I don't have a bump yet at all, I went into the local baby shop the other day and was asked 'are you looking for a present?' I said 'no just for me?' and I got a 'oh really, how far along are you?' I replied 'Twenty weeks'. I got a and a 'well if you need any help, let me know' and she walked off. Obviously I look like a crazy person. But TBH if you met me, you'd think that anyway. Also a thing about parking sensors, don't rely on them too much as they can be a bit funny at times. We use them at work and they're notoriously finicky with us.

If I've missed anyone off, I'm sorry. I hope you're all well.

OP posts:
chalky3 · 11/06/2010 21:15

So sorry to hear that Bellaby, thinking of you both, look after each other x

Went back for more blood tests this morning, HCG levels have not fallen but nor have they risen dramatically as would be expected in a normal, healthy pregnancy. Had to go back to the hospital this afternoon for a very physical external and internal examination (not the most pleasant experience!) but as I've no pain they are uncertain of what's happening. The doctor thinks it's possibly an ectopic pregnancy but I have to go back on Sunday for more blood tests and examinations and possibly a scan.
Whatever is going on it isn't good so no baby for us this time. Just hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

Sorry to bring some doom and gloom to this thread, hope you're all well and the bumps are coming along nicely! (with the exception of poor Bellaby of course)

YorkshireTeaDrinker · 11/06/2010 21:29

Evening all,

Thanks for the warm welcome back.

bellaby so sorry to hear your sad news take time to look after yourself and hopefully you'll be back here very soon.

Any news Chalky? I really hope that the diagnosis from wednesday turns out to be wrong.

Sorry to hear about the GD Ozzie. As you say, this might turn your pregnancy into a a complicated, higher interventiion sort of event, which is a real shame, especially when things were progressing well. Did you have any particular symptoms before the test?

Bunny, I've been and reading about your idiot boss. I am amazed at the attitude some people still have to pregnant women - like we're doing something really selfish and indulgent and being a huge burden on society by requiring maternity leave, when, as pixie pointed out, most of us have been paying into the tax pot for years anyway. Grr

Hermya congratulations on your little boy. It must be lovely to know and to be able to start planning. My 20 week scan is scheduled for a week on Wednesday. I am still undecided about whether to find out or not. Part of me wants to find out so that I can start shopping with purpose and direction, but a bit part of me wants to wait and find out at the birth. I have a week and a bit to procrastinate about it...

Spirael, how fab to be finishing work - you are definately on the home straight now. Won't be long before you have your baby. Make the most of the last few weeks of 'you time'.

Hope everyone else is keeping well. I've started with heartburn now, which is a bit of a pain. However, aches, pains and generaly malaise seem to be part and parcel of pregnancy, so I'm learning to live with it. I could do with the promised 2nd trimester bloom starting to kick in though!

haloflo · 11/06/2010 23:30

chalky I'm so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you this weekend especially Sunday.

aly323 · 11/06/2010 23:57

Just returned home from our scan and am both relieved and a tiny bit disappointed to announce that I am growing just one tiny baby in my belly (DH was only relieved). However, I am thrilled that the one tiny baby looked good and had a happy little beating heart.

Chalky, I'm sorry to hear the results today weren't good. It makes me so sad to see others dealing with this. It's just so difficult to go through. I really hope it isn't an ectopic, but I'm glad you're able to check into it so early just in case. Please just take care of yourself and keep us informed of how you're doing.

Ozzie, welcome to the GD club. I like to think that we just have really sweet babies! I'm pretty new to the whole diabetes thing, but feel like I'm getting the hang of it rather quickly. If you have any really, really simple questions, let me know... It's good that you took the test, now you know, and now you can do everything in your power to make sure your birthing experience is as safe for the baby as possible. I'm constantly surprised by how many people I run into that had GD- and all of them had decent births and healthy babies.

Bunny Sorry to hear about your cold. Let me know if you try Chance's suggestion to get your DH to cook. If it works for you, I may have to suddenly have myself a cold.

Ugh, gotta sign off now. I've been recently hit with a bad case of the "morning" sickness. I just didn't understand what all the fuss was about...until now. I also know I'm good and pregnant because of all the crying I keep doing.Everyone's messages and the overall support from this thread had me in tears this morning.I'm constantly in tears. Even pizza commercials have me bawling.

By the way, does anyone know when I should expect to get my huge pregnancy boobs? I figure I deserve them after feeling this crappy and I kind of thought they would be here by now.

Ozziegirly · 12/06/2010 01:23

chalky so sorry to hear that things aren't progressing as expected, will keep everything crossed that all is ok.

yorkshire - No I don't have any symptoms at all. I haven't put on any excess weight and don't feel tired, thirsty, anything really; that's why it's come as such a surprise. I'm hoping that if I can stick really religiously to the diet and start doing a bit more exercise I can keep it all under control.

DH is being lovely though, he was in Sydney yesterday and came back with a bracelet for me, and full of ideas of how we will go for a 30 minute walk every lunchtime (we work quite close to each other) and how he will do the GI diet too, to support me.

aly pleased to hear the scan went well - and I will come to you with questions. I'm off to the library this morning to try to find a book with diet and meal ideas. I think I'll feel better once I have the blood monitoring kit as at this stage I have no idea how things are affecting me, blood sugar wise. I've had bran flakes, with linseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds and some berries for breakfast, but that's my normal brekky so I don't know if I'll have to swap to eggs and bacon (oh what a hardship....)

aly323 · 12/06/2010 04:55

Ozzie when do you meet with the GD people? I can tell you that as wonderfully healthy as your breakfast sounds, I wouldn't be allowed to eat it. No cereals (even the healthy ones) and no fruit in the morning. I have to eat 2 carbs, two proteins and a fat for breakfast. Generally blood sugars run higher in the mornings. Breakfast is awful for me- I'm never hungry when I'm supposed to eat it, and my nausea is always at its worst.

I'm interested to see what your people have to say. Every time I look on diabetic websites, it seems that every other pregnant diabetic has loads more freedom than I have. I think it may have to do with the fact that I'm still at a point where GD can cause severe birth defects (conception to 10 weeks). Later in the pregnancy, that isn't a concern. They mostly worry about keeping the baby from getting too big. From what you've written, it really seems like you've done a excellent job of doing that so far. It's probably because you eat pretty healthy on your own.

Sorry to everyone about the diabetic talk. I just get so excited to have company! As for symptoms, it seems people rarely have symptoms with GD. I'm a big advocate for testing.

bunnygirl80 · 12/06/2010 05:18

chalky sorry to hear things aren't looking good

aly great news about your scan, that and the sickness/random crying make it sound like this pg is progressing well for you. As for the boobs - I had gone up by over a cup size by the time I was 6 weeks!!! I've gone up 3 cup sizes in total, but they seem to have stopped expanding for now.

chance if I told my DH I ahd a dodgy tummy he'd probably cook his own tea and expect me to eat dry toast so as not to upset my tummy further

hermya good find on the Benefit products. I bought some concealer from Clinique the other week when they were doing bonus time, so got a big bag with cleansers, moisurisers, blusher, mascara etc, and a small perfume. Sprayed the perfume on me without sniffing it first - it smelt of grannies, and I could still smell it on me after 3 showers!!

spirael you're on the home straight now. Are you still heading for a home birth?

yorkshire DH and I have been feeling the same way about whether or not to find out the sex. I reckon we've spent so long discussing it the baby will cross its legs for the scan and we won't get to see anyway Sorry to hear about the heartburn.

I've signed myself up for a pregnancy aerobics class, but in my enthusiasm for doing exercise I didn't realise it started at 8:30am on a Sunday. Looks like I'll be getting up early at weekends from now on
