Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
30ish · 15/05/2010 17:50

Hi everyone!

I had a baby boy, Oliver James on Tuesday 11th May at 10:05am. He weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 7 oz. Stayed in hospital for 2 nights and was home on Thursday. Maternity unit was fantastic! Still sore and stiff but baby is bf beaytifully!

Ollie is a very sweet baby - I have yet to see him with his eyes open for more that 5 minutes! All he does is eat and sleep but i am very sure this wll change soon!

Hobnobfanatic · 15/05/2010 19:22

Congrats 30-ish - beautiful name! And what a good weight! So glad all is well and you're enjoying him. My LO just sleeps, eats, poos/sleeps, eats, poos, too! The simple life!

cupcakefairy · 15/05/2010 19:29

Wow, knew there had to be a burst of birth announcements at some point
Congrats to kateyjane, itshappened, 30ish, april and pigley! I'm particularly giddy that pigley has popped as we have the same due date I'm desperate for things to get moving here!!

Huge good luck vibes to Gils, kaffa and everyone else feeling like things are happening! I'm but v happy for you!!

rachel so sorry to read of your sadness but I really hope it's a sign for you too! Hope things improve between dh and mil as she sounds like she's being a star for you!

Lovely to read all the newborn updates, just desperate to meet mine now!! Woke with pains again last night and sure baby has dropped more today as I'm finding it harder to walk around & feel v heavy so I'm sure things are gearing up. Lo has been making some CRAZY movements though...dh and I just watched the bump for ages last night it was hilarious the massive ripples and shape-shifting.

sweetkitty · 15/05/2010 20:25

30ish - congratulations love the name Oliver would have been on our shortlist if it weren't for the fact he would have had the same name as an alcoholic actor in Gadiator but I think Jacob suits him, it's strange they grow into their names, the minute we saw him he was a Jacob for sure and it wasn't even on our shortlist. Anyway welcome to Oliver.

kateyjane - love the pics of Thomas, his hair is amazing totally lovely

hobnob - with you on the eats/poos/sleeps oh and pees on me

pamelat · 15/05/2010 21:05

Congrats 30ish !! I would like a baby like yours please

DD is at my parents for the night as was convinced earlier that would be having DS tonight but now all signs have gone.

Have eaten piri piri chicken in he hope it will kick start something. DH doesnt want to to DTD! He says we will go for a walk in the morning instead if no joy!

booboomonster · 15/05/2010 21:08

congrats all new arrivals - ithappened, Katey, pigley, hobnob, 30ish and lizzie - sorry if I missed anyone.

Good luck pamelat and gils - hope for news soon!

No news here. Went out last night probably for the last time before B-day and stayed out til 1am, so now I need to sleeep.

booboomonster · 15/05/2010 21:10

Also Rachel really sorry to hear about your grandpa - hope things improve there.

Gils · 15/05/2010 21:17

Hey all. Few more pains today but nothing to write home about. DD staying with in laws and unless something kicks off again tonight DH will be back to work tomorrow. Having few tightenings just now, just desperate for it all to kick off. Been for walk, going for clary sage bath and DH is trying to convince me on the spicy food. Didn't really feel up to eating at in laws today but he managed to put away his dinner andsure he would be joining me if I did indulge - men can be such pigs!!

Carikube · 15/05/2010 21:17

Congrats to kateyjane, itshappened, 30ish, april and pigley and good luck to those who feel that something is about to happen.

I'm very of all those who are having their LOs, especially people like pigley who were due after me. I'm still having lots of periods of pain/discomfort etc but nothing ever develops as a result so no idea when this one is going to turn up. I've decided that I'm not a very patient person and can't cope with this going overdue business!

myfirstbump · 15/05/2010 21:38

Massive congrats and welcomes to the new arrivals!

Rachel, thinking of you. Hope he holds on to meet LO.

Cupcake - me and DH are having fun watching Baby poke feet and bum out all the time! I just keep thinking that (hopefully) in a week, it will do that and not crash against my belly!

ML - gosh! What a close one. Glad everything took the best route.

I've been having a few more twinges, but I don't really know what to make of them. Had pre-period type aches on and off for a couple of days, and like cupcake feel like I'm doing cowboy walking. Think it's too much to hope that Baby will appear a week early especially as all my RL friends who have had babies in the last few weeks have gone over! (There has been something in the water round here I'm sure.)

Will wait patiently and see. And not read too much into my Mum's labour experiences. Although if baby size comes from the Dad's side, then DH was a tiddler full term baby of 5lb14oz!

I need to start thinking of a new nickname too as well! Eek!!

MoggMum · 15/05/2010 21:48

Congratulations to kateyjane, itshappened, 30ish, april and pigley. Hope I haven't missed anyone as there seems to be a sudden rush of new arrivals!

Good luck to all those experiencing signs of labour too.

Haven't heard from schipo so wondering if there's any news? We share the same due date (tomorrow) but pretty sure my LO is NOT going to put in an appearance any time soon.

Gils · 15/05/2010 22:22

Rachel feel terrible for not Reading the thread and just posting me updates. I really hope your granpa pulls through. I remember when they switched of breathing aparatus with my grandad like it was yesterday and it was over 8 years ago. Keeping fingers crossed for you

ml and hobnob. Congrats on the weight gains. Nice to hear updates on the new arrivals. Funny to think how thread will change in next few weeks.

Taking more pains and backache but don't feel like it will be tonight.

kateyjane · 15/05/2010 22:39

Congratulations to itshappened, April, Pigley and 30ish!

Sorry for no personals - other than to say I am thinking about you all, especially those in labour (sending positive vibes!) and those who have had sad news

Thomas is BF well, thanks lots to SweetKitty for your tips ages ago and the lansinoh recommendation, it is wonderful stuff.

I will try and write my birth story tomorrow, here's hoping that I get more than an hours sleep!

mollybob · 15/05/2010 22:42

Hi all - exhausted tonight so rubbish with the personals. Congrats on the new arrivals. Had a baby shower at work last night and went to a BBQ today. Really didn't feel like it but went ok. Had bad night with tightenings from 5am - came every 30 mins for about 5 hours but went nowhere. Painful enough to waken me up but clearly did nothing else. Been very grumpy today as a result and had a fight with DH - he complained at how sensitive I am at the moment. He's right but there is a reason for it! I've tried the hot curry and clary sage but no success just yet. DD is so jealous of baby but we had a nice cuddle and a chat and hopefully she'll be ok once he/she arrives. Wonder if the thread's baby boom will continue tomorrow.

kateyjane · 15/05/2010 22:42

Sorry I missed saying congratulations to MDM, Lizzie and Hobnob. Hope all the new arrivals are doing well

TomlinTowers · 15/05/2010 23:44

Hi all

Had quick read thru to catch up - congrats to all new arrivals!! Knew there would be a sudden rush!

I would also like to announce that Sophie Mae arrived safely on Friday 14th, 8.43am, weighing a huge 9lb 7oz! Home today and all doing really well.

For anyone who's interested - woke at 5.30am with really bad back pain radiating to top of legs and under bump - nothing like where I used to feel BH. Pain every 7 mins, couldn't get off toilet (TMI). Within hour, pains every 2-3 mins. Rang labour ward who said to take 2 paracetemol and have warm bath as only been in labour an hour. Woke DH who took one look at me on all fours, bundled me into car and drove me to hospital. Arrived hospital 8.10, DD born 8.43 - no time for any pain relief, did it all without anything, not even gas and air!! Thank God DH got me to hospital! 3hrs 13 mins start to finish!

DD is lovely, bit sore and bruised from having literally shot down the birth canal in 8 pushes, but feeding well and sleeping. I am fine - 2nd degree tear but no damage to any muscles so just stitched up. V glad to be home!

Someone was asking about children and early labour - DS woke up whilst I was contracting on all fours in our room, and was v worried all day yesterday. I told him I had a bad tummy ache, and Mum whipped him out way as soon as she arrived, but he still kept asking all yesterday about my tummy. I guess it depends how much pain you are in and what your options are.

Will catch up with everyone's news later, sorry for me post, but DD finished feed so off to bed asap!!

Good luck to those in labour or potentially going into labour - looking forward to more news soon!

MoggMum · 16/05/2010 04:10

Congratulations Tomlin & well done re speedy birth with no pain relief . Good weight and lovely name too

Neither DH or I can sleep tonight (coincidentally it's my due date today!) so sat watching live boxing much to my DH's delight (not mine ) and drinking Horlicks. Even the cat has come down to join us!

Absolutely NO signs of labour here though

Hope you're all sleeping well & look forward to hearing some more news later today x

MoggMum · 16/05/2010 04:40

Sooo bored with the boxing already!! LO has woken up and starting boxing inside my tummy too!

Any news from Sassles following recent sweep?

AliMouse · 16/05/2010 08:43

Hello everyone,

Congrats to all the new mums - gives me hope as I'm beginning to feel like i will be pregnant forever. Good to read all the birth stories too as I'm feeling very nervous despite it being my 3rd time.

Tomlin, congrats on your lightening birth experience. Sounds like you were lucky to make it there!

I've gone and got a cold which I could really do without. But I'm hoping, applying Sod's Law that it means I will go into labour.

It's going to get really hot and sunny this week so I'm planning lots of chilling out on the beach with my DS and a last bit of one on one time.

Best of luck anyone due/in labour! Keep those birth stories coming...

alle01 · 16/05/2010 10:23

hi all
congrats to all the new mums!!! hope the rest won't be long....
sorry, no personals, i am so nucked that i can barely read through the posts,...
cat still scared of oscar, but coming closer to smell, doesn't seem to want to be around him though, specially at nappy changing time
bf: great support group, wonderful ladies, lots of tips, pump to borrow, and happy to say is working, not perfect yet, but oscar is 10 days old and now taking to the breast around 20min per feed most feeds, toping up with formula, but when i get my pump hopefully with breast milk, so feel a lot better now,... if only i could sleep a little bit more
get to your local group, real mums 1- stupid midwife 0

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 16/05/2010 10:52

Hello Everyone!

Taking a second to do a really quick post, so sorry for lack of personals. Had a quick scan through the posts since Thursday, congratulations to all the new arrivals!

The birth story... Well I think I posted on here on Thursday early evening that I'd been having the odd twinge during the day, but not sure whether it was the start of things or not. Spoke to DH before he left work at about 6.30 and told him that to be on the safe side he didn't leave anything unfinished! He picked up fish & chips for dinner on his way back and got home by about 8.30. By then, I had been having more regular pains since about 7pm (about 4 an hour). After dinner, they started coming much more frequently, every 3-4 minutes or so, lasting between a minute and 90seconds each. I had a paracetamol, and we continued timing the contractions, which were getting stronger and stronger. At about 11 or 11.30, when they had been coming every 3 minutes for about an hour, we rang the hospital, but they said don't come in yet, as I'd only been having regular contractions since about 8pm. My waters broke at about midnight, so we rang again and they said to come in, but it took us about half an hour to get out of the house because I was having really strong contractions every couple of minutes, which were making me really sick (regretted the fish and chips at that point!). DH eventually coaxed me into the car between contractions and we set off.

I don't remember much about the journey except for finding the heated car seat absolute bliss, hating speed bumps, and having a massively strong urge to push with each contraction. Got to the hospital at 1.05 (according to car park ticket) and checked in at reception at 1.20, via a couple of pauses for contractions. They took one look at me kneeling on a pillow on the floor of reception with my head in my arms over a chair, and whisked me into a delivery room, where I had another massive contraction, also kneeling on the floor, with huge urge to push. They got me on the bed, examined me (fully dilated and baby ready to come out!), but when they put the fetal heart monitor on my abdomen, his heart rate was really low, so they needed to get him out urgently.

We had 2 doctors and about 4 midwives in the room, and they said they wanted to do a forceps delivery to get him out quickly as he was in distress. We obviously agreed. Had to have an episiotomy with local anaesthetic, and they pulled him out with me pushing from my end. Took a few big pushes. THen he was out! DH cut the cord and they held him up for us to see the sex (boy!). Utter relief all round. He was born at 01.50.

I had a second degree tear as well as the episiotomy, and lost half a litre of blood. It took them 30 minutes to do the stitching up, but I was having skin-to-skin with Felix and didn't mind too much. Had a bit of gas and air for the stitching up, but not sure it made much difference!

Am recovering well, but incredibly sore where the stitches are. Felix makes it all worthwhile though, he is amazing (in my completely biased opinion!) He is feeding well. We've been told to feed him every 3 hours as he was quite small. Milk came in yesterday, and he's been feeding like a fiend ever since!

Sorry for lack of personals, I have been reading with interest, but not had time to respond to everything. Hope those who are still in the 'waiting lounge' don't have too long a wait.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 16/05/2010 10:58

Congratulations to everyone who has just popped, you all seem to be going at once now! Lovely names.

Nothing happening here still, I'm no longer answering the phone as if I have to hear mil say "hurry up I want to meet my granddaughter" one more time I'm going to scream.

I feel like it might be several more days, I'm bored but not terribly bothered. Just wish people would stop hassling! It's as if they think I'm only keeping her in by wearing super tight knickers or something.

SquirtsMum · 16/05/2010 11:06

congratulations to all new arrivals - ithappened, Katey, pigley, hobnob, 30ish and lizzie and Tomlin - sorry if I missed anyone.

Scan went fine on friday, weight est. at 9lb 3oz so not huge and we all know how out that can be lol!! Different MW this time (still part of the MLU) who remembered me from my booking in app with them, managed a sweep and I've been having a show ever since. Head still wasn't engaged at the scan but think it maybe lower now as hips, front of pelvis hurt and have so much pressure in my lady bits its unreal
Have to ring the hospital at 9 tonight to make sure they have a bed for me ready for my induction at 10pm, as there is no way this one is coming out without some help

DP wants to stay with me as it'll be the first night we've ever spent away from each other and think he's a bit lost with it all, but on a 4 bed ward thay won't let him so he's having to come home after my gel and trace to hopefully come back in a few hrs later and not the nxt morning.... DM was induced with me - only 8hrs start to finish so kinda hoping for that!!!!
DM has booked her flight for tuesday and looks like the ash cloud is back, thank god I made her buy volcano insurance!!! Hopefully it'll have blown over by then but you never can tell with the weather over here in NI

Hope everyone is ok and we see more babies soon

xxxx

pamelat · 16/05/2010 11:09

Just a quickie for now

Waters broke at mignight, odd sensation. Had only been asleep for 30 minutes

Hospital wanted us to go in to check baby ok, all well and my bp is really low again!

Contractions were instant, every 3 minutes for 20 seconds. Slowed down at hospital, typically.

Sent home to rest which have managed to do, had couple of hours sleep snatched between mild to moderate contractions. Still feel shattered.

Will see how day progresses, would say am only having contractions every 20 minutes now for about 20 seconds, definately bearable, I have to stop and breathe through them but ok ish at the mo.

Will be induced in the morning if no baby by then because waters have gone.

have just realised we are actually having another baby!

pamelat · 16/05/2010 11:11

Congrats Tomlin, good luck squirtsmum

Aren't all the labours so different. Really thought mine would be quick second time around but now 11 hours since waters broke and contractions started! However, not too painful so probably doesnt count as labour yet.
