littleowls · 12/05/2010 19:23

Evening everyone

What alot has happened since I last read. A whole new thread too! I have just scanned the last 27 pages as I simply don't have the mental capacity to retain all that information.

Congratualtions to all the new arrivals!
Its quite exciting hearing the anticipation of more new arrivals. Hope there will be more good news soon

Well Joel finally escaped from SCBU last week. I stayed with him for a while to get BF fully established as the nurses would just top him up down a tube. They also gave me a calorie rich formula to top him up with but I couldn't bring myself to give him it when we got home. I don't think he really needed it as he has put on a 1lb 1oz (5lb 9oz now) in just under 4 weeks which is impressive. I was worried he wan't getting enough milk but my mind has been put at ease since being weighed yesterday by the health visitor.

Sorry I haven't replied more personally and when Joel sleeps, (he has been awake from 9am to 6pm today!) I shall endeavour to keep up with all your news. x

pamelat · 12/05/2010 19:24

Hello all, sorry for no personals, just having a mild anxiety crisis

DH came home from work ill yesterday, he didnt seem to bad at the time. He saw the doc who gave him penicillen. Today he is really ill, can't eat, can't talk and just sleeping.

He has asked me not to have our baby yet (due today) but am really quite concerned about 1) if I do go in to labour whether he can cope/drive etc and 2) how it will all be ruined for him feeling so ill.

Also I have just looked at my borrowed TENS machine to just read "not suitable for use in labour, ask for alternatives". OMG.

I feel quite stuck and scared now. I know most babies dont arrive on their due date but I really need this LO to hang on 12 hours at least.

LuckyC · 12/05/2010 19:48

pamelat - Hang in there! Are you feeling any signs of labour? If not, you are probably fine. Get your DH loads of fluids and rest and DON'T WORRY. Nothing will ruin the birth of his baby for him; and he prob has a 24-hour bug that he is halfway through.

Do you have an alternative driver in case?

Sorry, no advice about TENs machine - did your friend use it in labour? If so, prob OK. x

pigleychez · 12/05/2010 20:05

Happenedagain- How exciting!

Kaffa- Yes theres a FB group. Mumsnet May 2010 babies.

Schipo- Ohh not sure on the waters, Mine went with a huge gush last time... no missing what it was! Maybe ring the MW or the labour ward as they will be able to advise you more.

Rachel- at today being Homers birthday! Anyone who has a boy today should have Homer as a middle name

MDM- they say that they should get more pianful as they go along. Fingers crossed its the start of something for you.
Im kinda unsure too as with DD my waters broke first and there was no mistaking that my contractions were def contractions. This time with tightenings im not sure whats what?!

Wibbelea- Good luck for tomorrow! How exciting
Enjoy the malteaser cake... Making me fancy some more right now!

Littleowls- So glad that Joel is doing so well and out of SCBU. Glad the BF is going well too.

Pamlet- Hope DH gets better soon. Im sure if things did kick of the adrenalin of it all would kick in and he would perk up for the occassion. Legs crossed in case though

Been really lazy today and feel ive acheived nothing. Just been pottering about doing housework today.
DD has been abit of a madam. Def hitting the terrible twos!
Put the babies rocking bouncer seat together today, which DD loved. I think every teddy/peppa pig/iggle piggle etc has had a go in it this afternoon... Poor little baby is going to have a fight on its hands i think! Sweet watching her rock it though saying night night baby and singing row, row row your boat to her teddies in it.

DH is watching the footy and I have horrendous backache and pressure in my bum tonight so flopped out on the sofa.

Exciting to hear of all these potentional babies on the way! Looking forward to some more announcements soon

Den26 · 12/05/2010 20:06

Hey all,

Pamelat fingers crossed baby stays put until DH better. Re TENS - i know there is specific ones for pregnancy and these differ from those that physio's use for example. Sorry can 't be much help.

Just a quick update from my scan this morning, measurements are fine but baby is Breech!! I'm 38+1 today. LO's feet right up by it's head, no wonder i've been getting really sore ribs.

DCU offered to try and turn it but given small time window felt that would be too stressful so have opted for a section. MW also said that because of it's positon it was quite unlikely it could be turned succesfully. Ideally they would like me in next week but they have absolutely no slots left so i'm booked in for day before my DD 24th and they wil call next week if any cancellations! Hope LO doesn't ry and come bum first!

Feels quite weird having a date now (hope LO doesn't turn and i go in expecting a section & they send me home to wait!)

Good luck to all those feeling labour pains etc

memorylapse · 12/05/2010 20:23

littleowls...good news about Joel

Pamela...what are DH's symptoms..does he have a high temp..dont panic..

MDM..lemsip out of the question with BF sadly..saw your post about your fall..hope you are ok..

Carikube · 12/05/2010 20:39

Littleowls congratulations on Joel getting out of SCBU

Den that the baby is breech and hope you manage to hang on until the CS is due to happen

Pamelat hope your DH recovers soon; I keep getting told that babies will arrive when you're most relaxed so chances of it turning up when you're on edge about your DH are hopefully slim

I feel quite sick this evening; I'd like to say that it is the beginning of labour but it's entirely self-inflicted as we went out for a meal tonight and I ate way too much and am suffering for it now

AnAngelWithin · 12/05/2010 21:25

littleowls thats great news about Joel. Glad he is doing so well!!

pamelat hope your DH is better soon

den hang in there!

itshappenedagain good luck

Well, todays not been fab really. FIL did school run this afternoon for me, I felt rotten. Been getting pains every 15-20 minutes this evening so you never know.....

OP posts:
Hollyoaks · 12/05/2010 21:26

Hi all, absolutely knackered with work and dd having a nasty chesty cough and sore fingers which need to be dressed every few hours as she pulls the dressings off.

Den - hope your not too upset with the cs, at least you know when lo will arrive.

Littleowls - glad to hear Joel is out of scbu and gaining weight

Itshappened - keep us updated, hope lo is already here Wonder if its a baby Homer?

Pamelat - try not to stress out, if dh is needed I'm sure he will manage to pull himself around. Happy anniversary

Wibbela - good luck for the induction

Sorry for lack of personals but there is too much to catch up on.

hormonalmum · 12/05/2010 21:42

Just a quick post to say hello.
dd2 still has no name (people think we are a bit odd, but i want to be sure!)

Struggling with bf as i did with dd1 and ds. Going to a breastfeeding cafe tomorrow so hoping they might be able to help.

Anyone know what can increase my milk supply? dd2 is on breast at least every 2 hours and am drinking fennel tea.

Hope everyone is doing ok.

Gils · 12/05/2010 21:52

Very quick post. Anyone struggling to find nursing vests go onto asda online. They have plain white vests for £5. Not sure how great they will be for that price but a lot cheaper than any other vests I hve seen.

memorylapse · 12/05/2010 21:54

hormonalmum..pop LO on the breast as and when..milk works on a supply and demand basis so if you BF LO often..your breasts will cater for the demand

sweetkitty · 12/05/2010 22:13

Evening everyone so much to catch up on will see if I can.

Firstly everything is good with us, think I am making milk for about 4 babies, boobs are SO painful. We registered Jacob today and took him for his newborn hearing test which was all fine.

hormonalmum - agree with ML on the breast as often as you can, what makes you think you are not making enough milk? I'm asking as newborns as SO fussy, for example Jacob woke tonight he had a good 20 min feed and came off himself, I winded him and then he was fussing again so I put him back on, he sucked for about a few mins and then fell off again, then cried and fussed again. Then he was sick. I changed him and cuddled him and he was crying again so he went back on and fell asleep in a few mins. This is normal for a newborn. You could say all the fussing is him being hungry but it's the desire to suck IYSWIM?

hollyoaks - hope you get some rest

anangelwithin - fingers crossed it's your night

Den - hope the baby stays put until the CS, you can have a lovely CS with skin to skin and BFing straight away too.

pigley - glad you took it easy today, DD3 was on top form today, I think the registrar wanted to take her home, all she does is eat though, she's tiny don't know where it all goes.

pamelat - aww poor you, that baby will hang on until you are ready.

littleowls - so happy Joel is home with you now, sounds like he is doing well

wibbela - best of luck for tomorrow, my induction was fine x

MDM - hope it was contractions, I think there's going to be a rush and 6 babies born in the one day

itshappenedagain - I hope it has happenedagain and you are a Mum again

myfirstbump - congrats on the start of maternity leave, scary isn't it?

ML - Hope you are feeling better now, I am naughty I have taken Lemsip when BFing, I think sometimes they are overly cautious with medicines and BFing sometimes.

BRB - bring on the newborn chat! Jacob got his first bath last night at 6 days old will probably bath him once or twice a week and top and tail every day. His skin is dry and flaky so using olive oil on it. The MW told me off for putting a hat on him straight after he was born I thought they all did that. She said he needs one more layer than we do and did not need a hat indoors. I have Jacob in a vest and babygro indoors and he likes being wrapped up in his shawl to sleep with a single layer blanket over him.

I'm still quite sore downstairs so am having daily lavender and tea tree baths.

pigleychez · 12/05/2010 22:18

Angel- fingers crossed for you then

Feeling really down and pissed off right now...

Spoken to both mothers today and both equally seemed to annoyed me.

MIL rang to tell me that her friends daughter has had her baby 5 days early.. was due just before me. Managed on just gas and air and how I need to relax more this time as I dont want a repeat of DD's birth with the epidural etc.
Never mind DD was back to back and induced with the hormone drip. I tried to explain that and thankfully DH was backing me up on that when he spoke to her too. No pressure for this birth then!!! Makes me feel like she thinks i was a right wimp with DD's
birth too

Also given a list of dates that i cant give birth as they are busy!

My mum has stated her choosen names for us Ricky or Maddy. I havent told her our choices but the boys name is the same as what we had choosen for DD if she was a boy and she made it clear last time she didnt like it. Not that i care but its soooo annoying. Shes said thats what she will call them regardless [grrrrrrrrr] Oh and it better be a boy! Why does she have to be so bloody akward!

Just feels like everyone has a bloody opinon and wants me to work around them and their plans! Feel like shouting "I have no bloody control over when this baby comes or its sex!"

Sorry, obviously being a tad hormonal tonight!

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 12/05/2010 23:32

Quick update. The pains earlier were definitely the beginning of contractions. Have been coming at regular intervals since about 8pm, and are now about 4 minutes apart lasting for a minute each time. You might get some news from me tomorrow! Watch this space.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 12/05/2010 23:50

Good luck to all the potentially labouring ladies! Looking forward to all the birth announcements/stories.

Baby is headbutting my cervix so hard tonight I feel bruised inside, keep yelping and I can't sit still. Think she has officially run out of room and wants out. Gulp.

Someone asked for tips on how to increase milk production, I heard oats help, so big bowls of milky porridge, snacky flapjacks etc, and make sure you're drinking enough. And feed feed feed, as ML and SK said.

schipo · 12/05/2010 23:56

wow mdm - good luck to you too - v exciting

Hollyoaks · 13/05/2010 07:32

Morning

MDM & Angel - good luck hope things are going well, good luck

Pigley - bloody mothers. Mine is especially honest when we mention names and most of the opinions are negative . We have a shortlist but are going to wait to see what lo looks like first, it's much harder second time round. We have also sent out a red herring name that we know my dm hates via my dsis. We told her not to tell anyone but we know she has and they can't tell us, it's priceless when they keep asking about names and we don't mention that one at all.

SK - glad to hear Jacob's doing well and is all legal. I don't think dd wore a hat indoors, but she had loads of hair and the heating was on full blast constantly as it was winter. I did get wrong from the mw though for having her too wrapped up in a cardigan and blanket in the house and we put so many layers on her to come home from the hospital that she didn't fit into her snowsuit . We had to take it all off and start from scratch.

Hormonal - enjoy the bf cafe today, hope you get the support and advice you need to continue.

Well late start to work for me today as I have the antenatal class on labour this morning. It's the only one that I wanted to attend as I remember the physio went through some really good breathing and visualisation techniques that helped last time. It will also be interesting when the mw shows is the ventouse, haven't seen one since dd's delivery. Better go and administer pink medicine as dd is burning up, hope it's not a chest infection.

pamelat · 13/05/2010 08:34

Good luck MDM, its very exciting to read about other peoples contractions

Thanks all for kind word re DH getting better. He is however worse!! He has had problems with his glands for about 10 years, he is due to have an operation on them. In fact it was scheduled for the day that we ended up having the ECV to turn this LO, so he cancelled it. He says its now the worst its been in 10 years , its very swollen/infected so he has pains all over the right hand side of his face and head. No temperature though and not contagious.

He is off today but think he would appreciate me and DD out of the house

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 13/05/2010 08:52

Ooh exciting to hear that there might be more babies on the way. Good luck MDM

Pigley - your MIL and Mum do sound annoying, I don't think you're just hormonal!

Re hats - I used to put DD in them until I read that I wasn't supposed to so I only put them on as sunhats really (since she was a July baby). I heard that they need one more layer than you as well, which I've always found quite helpful.

Corin had 5 day check yesterday and is doing really well. He'd lost weight at the 3 day check but is putting it all back on already which is a relief. My boobs are engorged at the moment though so hugely sore. We're popping out later to get some cabbage to try.

Pamelat - hope your DH feels better soon, it sounds absolutely miserable

Littleowls - fantastic news that Joel is home and doing well, you must be so happy.

MoggMum · 13/05/2010 08:55

MDM Good luck - you might have had your LO by now - can't wait to hear your news.

schipo anymore signs that your LO is going to make an appearance after your leaking waters yesterday??

pamelat hope things improve for your DH - such bad timing for you both

pigley shame your MIL and your Mum are getting you down at the moment. I'm avoiding my MIL completely for the same reason!

James my LO was doing the same thing to me last night and I started to wonder if I was having contractions . Thanfully not though as I have lots of housework to do today before I'm ready for he/she to arrive.

This weekend (my due date) would suit me fine

AliMouse · 13/05/2010 09:22

Good morning,

Lovely sunny day here in Whitstabubble!

Someone asked if I knew who got my cat pregnant. Well we do - we were all watching Dr Who a few weeks ago and heard the most god awful noise in our back garden and ran out to see what was going on.

My sons witnessed the hugest ugliest mankiest tom raping my little ginger cat. It led to some long protracted discussions about reproduction that I think we fielded pretty well and led on to the inevitable conversation with my eldest about 'when a girl says no she means no'. Ahem.

Anyone want a fluffy ginger and white kitten in about 10 weeks??

I am cleaning like I've got OCD. Help!

mollybob · 13/05/2010 09:23

The thread continues to march onwards!

More babies - congrats to alle, alexw, hollyoaks (you were due after me!!!), hobnob, heffa,

and definite signs of more arrivals v soon - how fab!!!! - good luck MDM, angel etc (aren't there a fair few CS/induction babies we're waiting to hear about?!!! I'm so nosey - want to know everything)

Pamelat hope DH gets better soon - mine was sick with diarrhoea on Mon/Tues and he is such a wounded animal when unwell - just hides away, doing nothing he should to help himself and growls. I was a bit worried that I would end up labouring without him but he's back to normal and babe still here!

James my cervix is getting kicked from above too! Not fun at all.

Super news re Joel getting home littleowls and well done Corin re weight gain heffa

Breast soothing, gentle hugs to all the breast feeding mums!

glad you've got a date den but sorry that babe is breech

my cousin had his birthday yesterday, Rachel so need to FB a comment about Homer Simpson - wonder if we have any Homers who made their arrivals yesterday

cupcakefairy and racquel - DH, DS and DD think me turning over in bed is hilarious too - gits!!!

squirtsmum hope you're ok - going overdue sucks doesn't it? Both DS and DD were 42 weeks, one induced, one not so I have decided my actual due date is 5th June so I'll not be too upset when this one decides to cook a bit longer too - hoping that will help me cope - and apologies to all of you who might have to wait for me before we get going with our postnatal thread

pigley and hollyoaks - have told no one our name choices especially not my Mum so can't get the comments and then afterwards - well tough - it'll be too late. Actually my Mum is being much better this time and has already been told any comments about bf will lead to immediate eviction! (she's from the generation that started mashed carrot at 6 weeks!!!)

any news schipo - a small leak can be common but if no progress I'd see MW today

I used olive oil and E45 moisturiser on DD when she was born as her skin was dry and bathed every other day until she was about 8 weeks old then went into a bath/bed routine

My brain is fried now - hope I haven't missed anyone out. I don't care what the Australian study said I am soooo thick when I'm pregnant. I usually play suduko a lot and I just can't do it now - even the easy ones.

Today I'm going shopping for sleepsuits, fixing the cot and resting. Hospital bag nearly packed but have no lip salve or snacks or change for machine. Did have change but DCs spent it and did have snacks but DCs and DH ate them

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 13/05/2010 09:28

moggmum, I know what you mean about the sharp headbutt pains getting you wondering, I was scared she was going to pop my waters last night with the force of the bangs! Early contractions feel more like low period pain and clenching though, sometimes combined with low back ache too.

TMI but I have the runs today, no dietary reason for it as far as I can tell so I'm wondering if my body is in preparation for labour. Today would be a good day for her to arrive as I would have lots of childcare, and I'm not too tired. No other signs yet though! Knowing me I'll still be here next week.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 13/05/2010 10:04

Morning all! I'm absolutely thrilled to report that little Felix Benjamin Darwin (surname) was born today at 01.50! Only just got here in time, DH's security tag from reception says 01.20!! Felix was in a big hurry to arrive but needed a little help from some forceps as his heart-rate dropped due to the speed and strength of contractions. He is gorgeous, and weighed in at 5lb15oz.

Knackered now! More later...
