itshappenedagain · 02/05/2010 21:05

evening all!

justa quick post before i go to bed to do more revision. then have a read and try to get some sleep.

Alle- i do hope that all kicks off properly soon, and that when it does that it happens quickly for you after all your waiting. as for uni with Ds i took a year out after i had him, as once he was here i couldnt leave him or cope with the load and a small baby, where as a friend went back when her DD was 5 months old, but she had a partner to lighten the load.

your post made me think though this is the longest i hvae ever been pregnant a my son would have been nearly 4 weeks old by now.

thankyou for all the replies to the cot question...will put it up on tuesday after exam and put new covers on moses basket and make them both up ready. and whoever else said hubby is supersticious...my pram is in my aunts house and the cot and moses basket have been kept with other people untill last week!

take care all and maybe when i log on in the morning there will be more new arrivals!( just not mine!!!!)

MoggMum · 02/05/2010 21:32

Hi, sorry to hear so many are not feeling great today.

Thanks to those who put my mind at rest re baby's head not being engaged yet. I've still got 2 weeks to go until due date and don't mind if baby's late but really don't want to be induced

No superstitions here either - DH put cot up today although we've not got a mattress or any bedding for it yet! LO will be in Moses basket for first few weeks anyway.

Can anyone advise re best steriliser (we don't have a microwave)? I'm hoping to BF and have already picked up a Medela electric breast pump in the sales but have no bottles (or emergency formula) yet.

Hope everyone has a good Bank Holiday tomorrow

pigleychez · 02/05/2010 21:37

Oh dear to hear about everyone feeling down and or poorly. These last few weeks are a killer arent they !

SK- hope DD2 is better soon. Poor thing

Happenedagain- Hope you get your revision done, but remember to sleep too! Good luck though
No superstition here. When DD moved into her bed after xmas, the cot was moved straight into the nursery. The moses basket is ready and will be put in our room when bubba arrives.

James- I plan to keep an open mind with regards to pain relief. With DD I was induced and had the hormone drip so have no idea this time how it would be to go into labour naturally and how I would cope.. Guess i'll just see how it goes.

Hormonal- your back is bad.

Carikube- Never tasted it before but my dad used to say that Hot Ribena was nice

Kaffa- Ive also found my reflux has returned abit more lately. Horrible isnt it.

Forces - to hear about your MW. How young
Glad Molly is doing well though

Alle- I know how annoying it is being overdue.

Had a nice day visiting both sets of parents. Been very well fed.
Could of done without MIL telling me how 2 under 2 is going to be so much hard work though
bit of you with parents/in laws eager to meet LO. Im sure mine do but being second one people dont seem so interested.
My sis today didnt mention a thing about me being pregnant even though we havent seen each other for ages and wont see her again till after the birth. And my In laws who are off on holiday tomorrow, just casually said well if anything happens give us a call on the mobile... We'll try and remember to check for voicemails.

Just scoffed a whole tub of pringles which were very yummy
Hoping for a better day tomorrow as I have hanging baskets and tomato plants to plants.

sweetkitty · 02/05/2010 21:37

hi everyone just a quickish post from me, I think DD2 is feeling a bit better but DD1 is now being sick and DP feels unwell so it's only me that is unaffected so far. I think it is going to be a long night.

Moses basket - mine is up at the end of the bed all made up

itshappenedagain - I don't know how you can be studying and sitting exams this late, well done you you deserve to pass for sure. What's your exam on?

Epidurals - have never had one, not through choice though always been too quick, hope I can just manage this one on gas and air as well. My contractions are usually one on top of the other, very fast, very painful, hope this one is fast as well.

ML - about the mastitis hopefully your antibiotics should sort it out

forces - glad Molly has put on weight, that's really interesting about her B12 just as well google is here

squirtsmum - only the second time ever I have been puked on in the face, my DDs are v healthy in the most part so it's hard when they are ill

Right best be off think I will be on sick duty later.

TomlinTowers · 02/05/2010 21:49

Hi All

Sorry to hear that so many of us not feeling great or have poorly DC today. I hope all sickness/bugs/colds/mastitis clears up soon!

Itshappened - I never took my cot down after DS1 moved into his toddler bed, so no chance to be superstitious in this house! I am of the opinion that if something bad happens, it would have happened anyway, and it is better to be prepared for all eventualities. Also have found that having cot made up and crib up in our room has made it easier for DS1 to understand what is happening.

MoggMum - we had the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and steriliser last time, and DS1 got on so well with them that we never tried anything else. Have got a couple of new bottles for this time round just in case - still have memories of desperately going to Tescos and standing in front of all bottles having had 2 hours sleep in past 24 and just not being in any fit state to make a decision about which bottles to buy, so wanted to be prepared this time! It's amazing how sleep deprivation robs you of the ability to make even the most simple of decisions!

LuckyC - how is your weekend going? Have you managed to get out and about with Matilda yet? I remember it was about 6 weeks before I dared to venture down to the village on my own with DS1!

Forces - excellent news that Molly is putting on weight, hope they can get the b12 thing sorted out asap.

James - my birth plan actually contains the phrase "I want an epidural as my preferred pain relief option, and I want this given to me as soon as I request it, without any unnecessary delays and without trying to dissuade me from my choice. I do not want the window of time for me to have an epidural to pass without me being notified and given the option to have an epidural." I honestly don't think I could have done the last 2 hours of DS1' birth without the epidural because I was so tired, and hadn't had any sleep for over 24 hours, and nothing to eat for over 14 hours - it really is a mental thing for me now that I have the option to have an epidural. We have had several friends who have been to our local hospital and requested epidurals, only to be fobbed off and then, when they have requested one again, been told that it is too late for them to have one - something to do with statistics and costs no doubt! Hence the wording of my birth plan! I hope very much that I will not need one this time, but I still want the option and do not want the MW making up my mind for me!

Anyways, meant to be doing Asda online order at the moment to try and get stocked up in case I have to stay in due to BP tomorrow. Best get on!

brightredballoon · 02/05/2010 22:24

Littleonesmum congratulations on the arrival of Lux, sorry it was such an emergency, I really feel for you as my son was also a crash section. Give yourself time to get on track. Are you taking arnica to help with the bruising?

I have my parents staying at the moment which is why i haven't been online for an age. Its lovely having them up here.

DD2 (oh my goodness, first time me writing DD2, I felt so sure I would be writing DS2!) is a cute wee thing, she sleeps loads in the day which is one of the bits of the newborn stage that I had forgotten! She is feeding ok, although I will feel a lot happier when she gets her first weigh in. Apparently new policy is that they dont weigh the baby until 10 days postnataly so we still have a wee while until we find out if she is gaining ok.

I am recovering well from the csection, find myself doing far more than I should be but feel ok for it.

I am off to bed, hope you ladies waiting have some labours soon!

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 03/05/2010 08:10

Littleonesmum congratulations on the new arrival.
MoggMum - we also had the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and steriliser last time, I started off with avent as had used them with all the other DC's but TT are definitely much better.
SK - sorry about all the pukeyness in your house, really feeling for you. Hope you can resist it.
Hope everyones birth plans are ready and waiting, mine is.
DH's Gramps' funeral is scheduled for a week tomorrow, very sad time for his family, hopefully a new baby will add some cheer soon. I think we're pretty set on the name Florence now as Gramps' widows (DH's Gran's) mother was Florence. think it'll be a nice touch for her.
Well, I phoned the hospital at 7.30am as requested, they are full up at the moment but have to ring back at 10am. If there's a space that'll be me going in for induction.
Fingers crossed all will be fine, but at least if I do get the dreaded uterine hyperstimulation I'll be near the operating theatre. If they end up whipping everything out, it may do me (or DH who's petrified of getting the snip) a favour. But in truth would prefer another 4hr labour with no problems.
Take care everyone, have a restfull time if your still waiting.

rachelfruitloop · 03/05/2010 08:47

Five Meant to say in my last post that I'm very sorry about your and DH's loss. GOOD LUCK! I'll be thinking of you today! I think Florence is a lovely name and a really nice tribute to your family. Will be looking out for new birth announcements!

AnAngelWithin · 03/05/2010 08:48

gosh, nearly 250 posts and its only been 5 days!!! Think I was right, this thread will burst before us!!

Feeling marginally better today, though I ache like mad all over! Supposed to be going to the inlaws in a bit which I am really not looking forward to. Yes they are great, but somedays, you know when you just want to be left alone?!......

Boys beds are stripped and in the wash, the kids are tidying their rooms I am just finishing up my birth plan ready to print out and making sure bags are totally packed and ready to go! 37 weeks today. Any day now I suppose.

Five fingers crossed for you when you ring up again. Florence is a lovely name.

BRB glad to hear you are recovering well.

tomlin hope you got your online shop done!

SK hope you don't get poorly

moggmum dd2s head didn't engage til I was in teh later stages of labour!

pigley happy gardening!

OP posts:
Hollyoaks · 03/05/2010 08:55

Morning

Feeling much better today, back pain has eased and I've managed to get a load of washing in and a pile of ironing done. Think I may venture out with dd today as dh is working again

Five - hope you get your induction soon and all goes to plan Florence is a lovely name.

SK - hope you avoid the bug and it passes quickly.

Moggmum - we had the TT closer to nature bottles and cold-water steriliser for dd and have it again for this lo. We use the milton tablets, they only take 15 mins to work so it's quite handy for bottles, dummies etc....

Tomlin - love the wording in your birth plan

BRB - glad you and dd2 are doing well, take it easy though, you may feel fine now but then it could all catch up with you.

Itshappened - I know what you mean about feeling like this is the longest pg ever. Although dd was only 2 days early, the last two babies born in our family were dsis' at 28 and 30 weeks so in comparison I am huge and making everyone wait. God help me if I go over.

sweetkitty · 03/05/2010 09:12

Morning all am like a complete zombie today, DD1 started being sick at 9 last night and is still being sick this morning cannot even keep water down. She has been very brave and only once I had to change the sheets. But every 30 mins or so I was woken by her being sick and then of course DP joined in. Talk about timing!

five - best of luck today, hope it's quick for you

tomlin - love the birth plan I think I am going to type mine up and print it out, I really don't know what to expect this time and am getting a bit nervous and anxious about it, ideally would like to go in tomorrow night to be told I am already in labour and about 4cms, can live in hop can't I?

BRB - need to see some pictures? What have you called her? How are the other two with her?

Angel - yes I know about the leaving me alone thing, doesn't happen very often though, DP is doing my head in already think I am just too tired today and have to head off down the street for a few last minute bits and pieces in a minute. Usually DP would have drove me as driving is so sore but need someone to look after the DDs.

Hollyoaks - have a good day x

Right best be off got loads to do today washing machine was on 4 times yesterday and it's on it's first load already.

pamelat · 03/05/2010 09:25

Hello all

Itshappened - good luck with your exam. I am also waiting until the end of June for my results. I figure it wont matter so much by then.

Sorry that so many of us feel unwell and have poorly children too .

I personally feel ok, except back to not sleeping. I wake for about 3 hours and wrestle the pillows. I am then shattered. I am ok with this except when looking after DD.

At May Day village fete thing today, hopefully lots of things to keep DD entertained and a nice cake stall for me

Alle hope your baby arrives soon. I can imagine you must be very fed up. I am fed up aat 38 and a bit weeks!

memorylapse · 03/05/2010 09:46

Five..sorry to hear about your loss

Alle..I remember being overdue with DD1..theres nothing worse..heres hoping LO puts in an appearance soon

Ive had 2 hours sleep after being up all night with a fever..I think Ive sweated it out now though as after feeding DD (agony) and taking ibuprofen..my temp is back to normal..my boob isnt as swollen although still red..I personally think Im getting inflammation mastitis..rather than infective mastitis..because it seems to respond to ibuprofen..did lots of googling and ibuprofen seems ok in breastfeeding..the NHS direct site actually recommend it for mastitis in breast feeding mums.

my grandparents are down from scotland house sitting while my mum and step dad are in florida so we took Olivia over there..Granny Agnes is blind due to glaucoma so she held Olivia and traced her features with her fingers..she said she could tell how small she was and was only sorry she couldnt see her..I felt quite sad as she has gone blind in the last 5 years so she has seen all the other children as babies. They bought her a beautiful dress and cardi from mothercare..Grandad said that there have been about 5 babies theyve had to buy for and he is getting quite good at choosing outfits! (Granny explains what she wants and he pick things out and describes them to her)..they are actually my step grand parents but theyve been in my life since I was 12 and have always treated me as a grand child..they are such lovely people..its a shame their son is a miserable git!!!

itshappenedagain · 03/05/2010 10:51

morning everyone!

alle and five hope today is the day., florence is a lovely name and for the same reasons as you i will be using it...providing that this one is definitely a girl.

ML i had mastitis with Ds, i think i got it about 5 times in the first 6 months, then a couple of time after that...i remember passing out at work after feeling a bit warm, luckly the antibiotics that they gave me worked well and i avoided a hospital visit. i would get in contact with your doctor or midwife again and see if you can get another prescription as my mum got an absess in her breast when it was left untreated. lovely about your grandparents, especially about your grandmother.

sweetkitty hope the bug leaves the house soon and that it passes you by.

well i have had a horendous night, was up for the majority of it with backache and period type pains which kept getting stronger and stronger, but with no pattern. am still getting them now so have warned my mum to be on standby. she thinks that its just due to the stress of the exam and that it will all settle down(hopeful emotion). ive taken some paracetamol and eaten andfeel a bit more confortable but im praying that they go away as quickly as they came, only 25 hours and 10 minutes and exam will be over, just need to finish my revision today. so all keep your fingers crossed!

Hobnobfanatic · 03/05/2010 10:52

Good luck Five - I have everything crossed for you.

Please can I join the Miserable Mums-to-be Club? Three nights on the trot I've thought, "Is this it?" Three hours of contractions, five minutes apart, painful...3am to 6am - I'm exhausted! I had it with DD1, where the BHs were painful, which means you never know if it's a false start, more rumblings of latent labour, or the real deal... I didn't know what to do - whether to get care plans into action for DD or what...

I wish these babies came with a delivery date!

Sorry for the lack of personals - I've been reading everyone's posts, but I'd better get organised and take DD to the flicks...

Good luck again, five!

TomlinTowers · 03/05/2010 11:53

Hi All

Wow, good luck Five - I hope they get you seen today - another baby announcement by tonight, I hope!! I love Florence as a name.

Itshappened - just cross your legs and your fingers and keep on hoping! Will they give you any special consideration for the exam if you have been up all night?

Angel - can you send the rest of the family to the inlaws and stay at home for some rest? Surely at 37 weeks you can be excused?!

ML - glad to hear the mastitis is clearing.

SK - bless your DD - I hope the sickness bugs leave your house soon.

Well, I am back from the hospital. Went in, saw MW who took BP - 130/75. Was previously 120/80 on Friday. No other symptoms ie headaches, swelling, etc. Had a listen to the baby's heartbeat and all fine and no protein in urine, so sent me home. Don't know whether to be pleased or disappointed tbh - had all bags packed and ready in car for me to be admitted for induction or monitoring prior to induction and had got quite used to ides of having baby this week, so feel a bit cheated in one way, but v glad in other ways that everything ok! Appt took 20 minutes tops and just have to go back to normal MW next Monday for another BP check as usual. Ah well, the waiting goes on.....had really bad pains last night for about an hour all across front of bump and was thinking this was it, but they went away again grr! Just have to keep repeating mantra "the baby will come when it's ready, the baby will come when it's ready...."!

Off to mayday fair this afternoon with DH, DS1 and parents so will no doubt buy lots of useless tat, a few buns and get rained on! Hope everyone else enjoying their Bank Hols!!

lizzie9442 · 03/05/2010 12:50

hi everyone, weel I am due today and nothing so looks like I'm going to go over I have had lots of pains but no contractions. I hate the waiting xx

memorylapse · 03/05/2010 13:15

ooh good luck Five..fingers crossed they have a bed for you..try not to stress about the uterine stimulation..I was warned I was more at risk..but when I needed a synto drip..it was started very slowly and turned up gradually...also the horrific bleeding I was more at risk of didnt happen..but no one warned me about mastitis...grrrr

lizzie..fingers crossed you are not waiting too long

Im on ab's again, saw a GP yesterday...GP said that DD might not be draing my breast properly..so Im getting milk stasis...checked the kellymom site and it says express after feeding if baby doesnt drain the breast..put Liivy on the bad breast this morning and she fed for an hour, so it feels a bit better now..temp still down too..poor Livvy has a cold though..shes really snuffly and when she sneezes, green junk comes out of her nose...she probably caught it from DH..bless her

we didnt put the cot up as DD wont be going into it until shes outgrown her basket..and she has no nursery so no rush to put it up..I didnt get a chance to get the moses basket ready etc before I had her as I went into hospital at 35 weeks

brightredballoon · 03/05/2010 13:34

SK DH prefers me not to post pictures or her name, however for anyone who is an enid blyton fan her name is the same as one of the books "Naughty A*a **e" sorry for so cryptic but have to repsect DH wishes.
My 4yr DD is fab with her, she is getting lots of attention from Gran and Grandad so is happy to have cuddles with the new baby and then rush off to do something far more fun! My 2 yr old DS is very loving towards the baby but he is a bit rough, he cuddles her but his grip is too strong so trying to get a balance with him. They are both on the whole adapting very well but likewise both are taking advantage of us being a bit pre occupied so they are eating more biscuits/watching more tv/playing up at bedtime but on the whole I am pleased with it all!

Hollyoaks yes you are right, I will watch what I am doing. Today DH, my parents and the kids have gone out for the day so I am literally doing nothing and enjoying the peace to have a nap etc. I am just not the type to sit back when I see something needs doing!

Good luck Five hope it all goes well.

I would highly recommend the NCT or Cariwell mesh pants! They are so comfy, hold a pad well in place (sorry for TMI but I have pretty much stopped bleeding now, need to start a new thread, is that normal so soon? Previous births I have bled for 6wks) and are letting my scar heal well as the air is able to circulate. I imagine they would also be good for natural deliveries.

So, wee one got weighed and at 7 days old she is now 7 10lbs so she is 2oz off her birthweight. I am happy with that as my other two took 10 days to get upto birthweight so hopefully she is on track. The MW said she would weigh her as I had asked but wouldn't normally as they are trying to not put pressure on the feeding but going more by examination of the baby.
She is feeding ok, her latch is ok but I know could be improved but I think as she gets a bit bigger that will happen and I'm not sore so it must be alright.

mustbemadno3 · 03/05/2010 13:40

Afternoon all.
Had a terrible night been up since 2.00a.m with horrendous diahorea and poo pains!!
And couldnt decide on being sick or diahorea.
Feel bit better this morning but uncomfortable and think Ive had a bit of a show. As felt something leaking and got mucusy, jelly type discharge tinged with pink. But its nothing like the show I had with my ds2? So not sure.
Had that many false starts I dont know whats going on. Dont want it too come before Wed as my ds2 is off on his first residential (without me) and I want to see him off on the coach! Hes epileptic and I need to make sure the right people have his medication etc. Plus if he gets too excited he will have a sezuire so could do with keeping my legs crossed til then!!!

memorylapse that made me cry about your grandma not being able to see your little one, but they sound lovely.
Mastits is awful Iam dreading getting it again, assuming i will!

SquirtsMum · 03/05/2010 16:09

ML at the mastitis back again. Lovely to hear about your grandparents, I may have cried a little

Sweetkitty hope your DD feels better soon and that you manage to by-pass the sickiness

To those off to May Day fairs and such like wish I was heading off with my DM to our local one but being 300 miles away tis a tiny bit impossible!!

Sorry but yet another one who had a rubbish night - slept till 5 and then have been up since DP left for work, tried to do little jobs round the house but really don't feel like doing anything apart from snuggling under a blankie on the sofa. Keep talking to Squirt hoping s/he will take notice and decide to come out and play but nothing, baby feels very low today but BH's are few and far between, pains have gone replaced with aches and a very sleepy brain. Due tomorrow but don't see anything happening for a while lol

itshappenedagain · 03/05/2010 16:34

hello again all!

well revision going ok, but my waters have started leaking, called hospital to be told they are really busy and could i call back in a couple of hours, unless they leak any worse or i start to get regular pains with them. baby is also going wild in there, so im hoping that its more to do with baby's movements and my bladder than waters as i only get 24 hours from them starting to have my water birth otherwise its deliver suite! i think it could be stress related...all i want is to sit the exam and then il be ready!!!! why is this happening now!

memorylapse · 03/05/2010 16:42

itshappenedagain...pop a maternity pad in your knickers and examine it after an hour..wee smells, waters have an odd, sterile kind of smell..if you are finding that you are leaking when you stand up..its more likely waters..also if you wipe..they look a little slimy on the loo paper

sweetkitty · 03/05/2010 17:12

itshappenedagain - oh hope it's not your waters so close to your exam date as well, agree with ML, stick a pad on and examine it, waters could be a constant trickle.

Everyone seems to be having such bad nights as well I am really hoping I get a good nights sleep tonight.

Had a FB update from Five and she may have her waters broken at 8pm tonight.

mustbemadno3- oh sounds like a show to me, I am with you on the false starts I think until I have a head hanging out I won't believe it

BRB - glad the other two are adapting well, am intrigued now, if you are on FB you can send a personal message. I have my FB settings set on the highest level so only friends can see. Good she is gaining weight as well. Sounds like you both have it sussed.

Tomlin - glad your BP is down but it must be very unsettling when you think you are going in but you aren't.

ML - that is SO sweet about your Grandma, glad your mastitis is calming down a bit as well.

Right hope everyone else is doing well, didn't get on well today with the shopping as all the shops opened at 11am and couldn't be bothered waiting about! Should have realised, may talk nice to DP tomorrow about running me down again. Have forgotten to stock up on dried apricots for afterwards too and could do with more spatone. Also need to get a little teddy for DS from his sisters.

DD1 is feeling better thanks for all your well wishes, she had a good 2 hour sleep this afternoon and seems a lot better, hope that's it now, the washing machine is about to leave home.

sweetkitty how annoying are these false starts! I am feeling same as you I havent got off the sofa all day very sleepy. just hope all these false start dont mean a long labour?

memorylapse i am getting slimey discharge on loo paper...dos that indicate the waters then, as I woke up earlier feeling like something was running but it is very slimey? sorry to be so graphic!

itshappenedagain I hope you manage to do your exam. I havent bothered ringing hospital, not sure if I should, but only want to ring if I am in established labour, which will hopefully be sooner rather than later but only after tuesday night!!

Hope everyone else coping, most of us seem to be getting the same niggles and feeling fed up. I feel abit sad actually been abit tearful. Would really love to pick the phone up to my mum but shes up above, hopefully looking down. The last 2 labours she was having sympathy contractions and she knew I was in labour, so I felt she was with me and a good indicator for when labour actually started. Had so many dreams about her this week think thats why I feel sad
