rollerbaby · 01/05/2010 17:36

Thanks peshes for the gin and kindness.

Have just about got over my grump now. Mr Moo upstairs painting the baby's room. Yes PAINTING! Actually my dad is giving him detailed instructions. I couldn't watch so off the supermarket to hide.

Silver how many weeks you again? I'd quite like my jelly belly to turn properly round soon as I look like a pie eater. Also bit harder and more noticeable at night although am in leggings and a dress today as NOTHING fits anymore so maternity clothes beckon.

Bon weekend.

Ponymum · 02/05/2010 11:04

have just heard that SIL is expecting a baby in November! Tres excited. Bump will have a cousin the same age, how brilliant.

honey Glad you're feeling better. But I think the important question is, what colour is he painting the walls? See this thread. (Was started by my friend Starlight as a wind up response to some mental thread about "selfish" parenting choices.)

Ooo.. watching Badminton now! Wonder if we'll get any word from boxy, our on-the-ground correspondent?

skihorse · 02/05/2010 11:16

Congrats to your SIL pony!

Well the ODE yesterday was not a massive success - we got there about midday and I had a terrible problem parking the car, yes, in a fucking field. Is anyone else having problems with such basic driving tasks? Sometimes any form of parking skills just desert me. Anyway, we saw "all that dressage stuff" from the road so didn't waste time there. First stop was obviously the loo! Watched the juniors at the water jump - I get very annoyed when they turn in to it too sharp with floppy reins and then get the whip out. Went off to walk the x-country course and jump number 5 was a big ditch - couldn't have been much more than 4' with a big spread but quite open at the front and I just remarked to jailbait that it was the sort of jump that freaked me out. Anyway as we carried on walking the next class started. We were only at jump 8 when we heard there'd been a big accident at the ditch and the whole course was closed. We sat and waited. Walked on a bit, sat & waited a bit more. By the time we reached the end of the course (2 miles or so), they'd still not re-started. Nee-naw with lights on left just as we were ordering chips. They finally started up again - I'd have been a nervous wreck if I'd been first out after that and we watched some more by the water jump which was closest to the carpark. Watched some very good riders including Dutch youth team - no idea who their names are though. But all in all didn't see as many riding as I'd wanted to but thems the breaks and I wasn't up to sitting around for another 2 hours and was exhausted by the time I got home.

I'm off to swimming in a moment - my Sunday treat.

I hope everyone is having a lovely lazy weekend - I've not got monday off - boo hiss. Had a very frightening moment earlier when I flipped over the page on the calendar and NEXT month it says "Skihorse's last day". WTF? When did that happen that I now have only 12 days left at the office between now and maternity?

skihorse · 02/05/2010 11:17

PS YO's sister had her baby boy this week - he's called Justin - so Julian already had a mucker AND a Shitland!

rollerbaby · 02/05/2010 11:19

That's lovely news Pony bout bump & coz. I'm hoping my brother and wifelet might get a wriggle on, but he's a bit younger than me so I suspect they are waiting for the "right time" whenever that might be.

Very amused by thread. I think I would inflame the lot of them having bought "White Tie" from Farrow & Ball (cue much huffing and puffing by Mr Moo) which is a yellowy white (aka Magnolia). Despite the v posh shop assistant (think gay wedding planner from SATC) and eye watering price for a 5L can it looks really lovely and absolutely no paint fumes whatsoever. My reasoning for colour is that it will last for ever and we can add lots of colourful accessories and things on wall/shelves as we go... I'm not a big fan of wallpaper or friezes personally . Feels very exciting to be decorating the room!

Wot a pants day. Off to languish in the bath now and then take doglet for a walk. Poor lamb was sick in the middle of the night last night (on our bed) but was more of a regurgitated sick so not too bad to clean up thank god. I think he ate a bee. Won't be doing that again I hope. You'll note that yes he has made his way into our room. Lie ins til 8am!!!!

rollerbaby · 02/05/2010 11:20

Ski 12 days til mat leave sounds like bliss... I'm counting the 4.5 months for mine to arrive. My mum is then coming over for a 2 week cookathon. We may need another freezer to cope.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 02/05/2010 20:53

honey your dad was giving your hub detailed instructions on PAINTING? What happens when he puts the flat pack baby furniture together? .

Aww @ doggie. Mine catches and eats wasps (ok) and bees (very cross making) and doesn't seem to have any ill effects. Bizarre but true.

ski V interesting that you are pukey when stressed, but I'm still not convinced by the "it's in yer mind" argument. And the tosser who said his wife just took B vits and was fine - I mean . It seems far more likely to be that your body has an aversion to some pregnancy hormone - a chemical thing. BUT I could be wrong (and it's not like me to argue against this stuff of course) and would be really interested in any info from "iggs". Sorry the ODE didn't go so well.

Well I've been well and truly nesting today. I've done loads of house work, dug over some of the veggie patch (not enough, must do more tomorrow), assisted YOB with some DIY for us and for his mum, cooked dinner... and went swimming which I think did me lots of good.

reggie have been thinking a lot about what you said. Obviously being overweight means a person is more likely to suffer from some health problems (duh) but it seems rather stupid to assume that they are. Therefore, it would make sense for the MW to do all the normal tests on everyone, regardless of weight, because it's about likelihood and not being overweight=definate problem.

You're not the only one here who's not a slim chicken. I for one am not going to be in good company on the catwalk. I've just been told not to diet while pregnant and that's that. My BP, like ski, is usually low so that's ok. I think my baby is quite big, and my son was nearly 9 Lbs, but he came out ok - the only problem was his hand was up by his head so that was far more of a problem than if he'd been even another Lb or so.

If you feel you can, I would just ask the MW specifically what any problems would be that she's worried about them, and then try to get it out of the way, but there's no excuse whatsoever for them to be rude or offensive. That's definately not going to lead to a good MW relationship and I would personally ask for another MW. Shocking, honestly.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 02/05/2010 20:55

Bugger, iggs not "iggs"!! Dunno why I made that mistake, sorry!

rollerbaby · 02/05/2010 22:49

Rots DIY is not a specialist subject of my dearest. To say the absolute least... Boy done good though. I was in charge of keeping the dog out of the paint, sleeping for 3 hours and cooking roasty beef and lemon meringue pie. Thank god for leggings.

skihorse · 03/05/2010 05:08

rots I am a stressy pukey person. But, this morning, for the first monday morning in a long while I woke at 5 rather than 2. I didn't even get up for a pee in the night. I've just had to neck an anti-emetic. They're now suggesting it's hereditary - which is certainly true from my mum - but she said my grandma said pregnancy was a piece of piss - and I much prefer to listen to the positive stories about pregnancy rather than the negative - in fact I get quite cross when people say "oh I was in labour for 5 days and in the end they had to winch it out with a landrover and I had 1400 stitches from little toe to arsehole" type stuff. In fact, I've not had to get up for a wee in the night for around a month - does this mean all the 2/3 times a night girls are just whipping themselves in to a pee-frenzy? Oh... and I read yesterday that early-labour may be indicated by puking - I think we can safely put me in the "will go off like yellowstone" category when that day comes.

honey It's terrifying! I don't know where this 12 days has come from. I only got a positive POAS about a week ago I think. I'm not ready for a baybee yet! Your Sunday sounds lovely btw!

I can haz question for iggs? It's about dogs (bien sur!) - I'm wondering with all this psychadelic stuff that dogs do - whether they're communicating with Julian in utero already. Any thoughts? I mean I guess they're going to know when he's ready to come out - and I think they'd perhaps also act out if they sensed he was in trouble. What are your thoughts on dogs as an early-warning system?

rollerbaby · 03/05/2010 08:17

PMSL at "had to winch it out with a landrover and I had 1400 stitches from little toe to arsehole" type stuff" Ski.

My poor ole ma had MS like you until about 7 or 8 months (with me), but she did say I was the most happy, calm baby who slept through the night from day 1. So maybe you will be lucky and Julian will be a dream baby. Unfortunately I then got seriously ill at about a year when they took me on hols to France, and was a total nightmare after that so didn't last long...

Iggs would also like to know about dogs knowing. Is it true the hairy moo knows I'm with child?

Ponymum · 03/05/2010 10:40

ski Sorry ODE was not so brilliant. Next year you can show them all how it's supposed to be done.

honey Farrow & Ball white tie sounds perfectly PESHly. Good choice!

Laydeez, I am v concerned about all this twitter / fb stuff on MN. As if the "don't you know they are perfectly entitled to publish anything you say in the DM" rubbish isn't bad enough! So I will be name changing. Very sad to say good bye to this alter ego. You shall some day soon be joined by someone 'new'. No need to mention my old name when I do, as apparently if you show a link between old and new names anyone can google that too, and figure out everything about you. So toodle oo, my poppets.

CurlyCasper · 03/05/2010 11:13

Yesterday, I haz been cuddling about 9lbs of gorgeous, very quiet, well behaved, adorable, "i want one like this" niece

Congrats on bump's cousin to be pony. We are excited at prospect of having girl cousins the same age. Just a shame they'll live so far apart.

En route home now. Looks like the move might just happen this week so lots to do.

Oh, and I allowed myself to be photographed with bump for more than just our records, for the first time this weekend. I have so put on weight in lots of extra places

Hope you are all well. sorry you are working ski but hurrah to 12 days in the office!

I haz just googled ex-friend whom I lost contact with 6.5 years ago when she was pregnant. She was American and had a couple of degrees - and was very intelligent. These days she's draped over the seat of motorbikes and is a "modul" and is now 10 years younger than me. I'm sure we used to be the same age but apparently she's 25 now and works out of Bollywood/LA - which is odd, because I happen to know for a fact that her husband lives about 10 miles from here...

iggypiggy · 03/05/2010 17:13

Hello - how the fuck are you all??

A few short werds from me today..

cossie yes - it was that word!

rots and ski I def don't think ms all in mind (but what do i know) - my understanding is that is is related to hormone balances/ inbalances etc. BUT re: hippo shiz - the idea is that your mind is v. powerful when comes to your health (eg. if is inconvenient to get a cold - sometimes you don't get one and everyone else does - then soon as you relax, get it - not best example - but one that the hippo woman gave me) - so relaxation/ visualisation could help with MS in that sometimes the stress/ worry can make MS worse - and you can affect hormones with your mental state (eg. if you hear police siren you might get adrenaline rush if you have in past been arrested - but if you never had fear of police - siren wouldn't cause adrenalin rush)... am waffling - but basically - I was more finking it could help a little and does no harm...

re: dogs 'knowing' you updiffed - I only haz own theory on this, am not expert... but my dog haz been different almost right from start - so I haz conculded that I now smell different to him - and that it has triggered his protective response cos he won't let other dogs come up to me any more. I don't think his little brain knows I will have 'puppies' I think is a little more basic/ chemical than that - but haz def triggered response in him! He occasioanlly sniffs my stomach v. deeply - so he must know something is in there.. In terms of dogs knowing when baybee ready to come - I reckon they could - but only in response to your body giving off chemical signals of somekind - eg. maybe they can detect rises in some hormones? Cos isn't that how the cancer sniffing dogs do it?

Whoever was talking about it - I can always do lundun meets for cake and the like

Backinthebox · 03/05/2010 21:25

I'm baaaaack! Will catch up tomorrow. Need to wean DD of sugar now so we can peel her off the ceiling - was the best way to keep her walking more or less constantly for 4 days. Then need to wean OH off beer. Was the easiest way to make him think he wasn't completely missing out on a Bank Holiday weekend. Then I need to wash clothes. 4 days with no washing machine and an only partly potty-trained DD is a smelly 4 days! And once I have got over it all, I will have to tell you how you make your child's poo bright blue

rollerbaby · 03/05/2010 22:17

Blue poo? That is some talent you have there... sounds like a much more interesting BH than mine!

Iggs twas me...let's do a Lahden meetup... I'm sure Okie will be on for it. VAG, Skater Curly are you game? Who else is based in our capital?

Really can't wait to get back to work tomorrow. Oh joy.

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 03/05/2010 22:43

Bloody hell horsey gals: have you seen those new back protectors?

Apparently it's one of those fairly new airbag ones which attach to the saddle and inflate if the cord is broken (ie when you fall off). He says he reckons he would maybe not have survived without it .

Horse was uninjured (thank goodness). Fortunately Oliver's going to be ok. We haven't been getting H&H for a few weeks so I missed this in the news.

skihorse · 04/05/2010 06:26

iggy Thank you for your explanation - I'm afraid to admit I did think you were suggesting I was some sort of Victorian woman in multiple petticoats who needed smelling salts wafted under her nose every 20 minutes and was just menkul.

As for the dogs, little dog has not jumped on my tummy and big dog is very good in the park. She has a tendency to go "deaf" , but when she's out with me these days she potters close to my side. My only complaint really is that she won't pull on the lead any more - nice in theory but sometimes I want dragging up a hill! The horse is definitely more gentle with me!

Pony I have been trying to figure out how to get a horsebox/trailer for next year.

reggie I think carrots made a really good suggestion about talking to the mw and saying "I understand your concerns about my weight, is there something specific you're worried about? Can we do blood tests (or others) to alleviate your worries?" - then, if your BP is 100/60 and she's still being a fucking cow change her - and ask her if it's because excess weight makes your vagina seal over!

skihorse · 04/05/2010 06:32
CurlyCasper · 04/05/2010 06:41

wass all this talk about a meet-up? honey, I'm not in Lahndan (rural West Mids ackturly) but could travel if date/time suits. Although I usually go down at the expense of work for conferences and whatnot and have no plans to do so before maternity leave begins.

I think there's some talk of a BESH/PESH meet down there in June/July. But that might not be so good for a whale like me

I wanna hear about the blue poo!

OP posts:
skihorse · 04/05/2010 07:00

Noooo curly - we need to keep the food out to test her. We need more sushi, peanuts, Thai , mayonnaise (Hellmans) and wedding platter feast. Watching her pick her way around the PESH deli is a true test of character!

How was your weekend anyway? You covered some mileage this weekend - how was it sitting in the car all that time? I'm getting a bit nervous about Newcastle and that's only 3 hours up to the port.

CurlyCasper · 04/05/2010 07:16

oh okaaayyyyy

Trip was great thanks. Friday night traffic was awful, but journeying with bump generally ok. (I took big long pillow to wrap around me in passenger seat and felt ok anyway when driving). Funniest thing was how much wriggling she did whenever we were on the road! You'll be okay for Newcastle. we did various 3+ plus hour stints and five hours yesterday (with only 2 pee breaks!)

Must actually get off my arse and get showered for work...

OP posts:
CUNextTuesday · 04/05/2010 08:18

Tis me wot lives in That London... I can make July as long as you don't mind me bringng a howler monkey with me

skihorse · 04/05/2010 08:52

lol @ "howlermonkey" - so you've decided on a name then? I like it - goes both ways!

I am finding myself in unchartered territory - the Mark Warner website . Have just been quoted a verrrrrry good deal for 2 weeks in Jan in St. Anton - ha! volcano - you'll not thwart me! Have any of you mums gone down the MW route before? I'm loving the creche in situ for daytime AND nighttime care!

I can haz question for all of you - who's planning more? (baybees I mean)
