Excellent news about scan casps - and even though cause of bleed is unpleasant - at least it's deffo that and nothing major. Be careful with your googling tho... tis dangerous doncha know..

witty if it helps I did ballet and modern dance till I was 16 too? Only got to Pre-elementary in ballet tho...

Cosmosis · 29/04/2010 16:17

I insist you all acknowledge I live nearest!! (I rode past it on my bike last sat).

iggypiggy · 29/04/2010 16:18

yeah yeah cossie you live nearest

CurlyCasper · 29/04/2010 16:19

good job I am going away then ski!

Thanks PESHelles. pony they should have picked up on it anyway. Is all a bit strange.

  1. First RA doc says come off all drucks if you want baybees
  2. Casper ditches all drucks 3 months before TTC
  3. Casper feeling ok on no drucks, until several months later, when 14+ weeks diffed and RA goes into overdrive.
  4. Go to GP, get put on steroids.
  5. New RA doctor said there was no need to have come off all drugs.
  6. Instead of putting me back on safe drugs, he continues with steroids.
  7. New doc reduces dose of 'roids and says to stay on them. No mention of complications.
  8. Obs doc says 'roids taking might cause ishoos. He also (unhelpfully) reminds me that most other RA drucks are fine for preggos.

That to me sounds like: if the first doctor had been more sensible and only said to stop the dangerous drug (methotrexate), there might never have been a flare up, I might never have ended up on steroids and this might never have been an issue

Nonetheless, I am still pretty chilled about it all. There are a lot of ifs because I don't know how my body might have reacted at each stage. I guess it's just the way things have happened and we'll have to go with the flow.

@ "theatrical"....judicious use of inverted commas there, ski! switty they've kindly let me stay even though I don't much like any animals....ok not 'not like', more 'am scared of'. Well, you never know what they ar ethinkng. Much like babies.

Though horse on centre court is a pleasing mental image. Racket in mouth? tied to head unicorn-stylie?

Gaah you've lured my out of lurk-mode again! - I must do some more work!

Ps cas - huzzah! Though argh about all-new complications. You must be well ahead in the PESH making-life-difficult awards or somesuch.

20 week scan tom pm - will report back Tues am (laptop at home is so slow I'll have forgotten what I booted it up for before I manage to get to post....)

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 29/04/2010 16:21

Hurrah! Peshes with similar hobbies! I have long since abandoned my doomed attempts to dance, but still quite into theatre! Actually, ahem, I have also recently rediscovered knitting. I know: how exciting, right?! But it has dovetailed well with recent low-energy levels and weird desire to somehow acknowledge the pregnancy (by knitting a baby blanket). Any fellow knitters? Don't leave me on a limb here!

skihorse · 29/04/2010 16:26

VAG Good luck tomorrow - try and take it easy tonight.

switty Meet VAG - not only is she a thespian but she's also a "knitter".

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 29/04/2010 16:31

gahhh - I have urgent work you know! swit am also a Knitter, though pregnancy has had the opposite effect on me, so am behind on many projects taken up before diff occurred let alone knitting for own frog-baby. Though after tomorrow's scan may get second wind.

ski thanks - we're having mates for dinner tomorrow so need to make choc brownies tonight, but after that will fold self onto sofa and demand TSF brings me merest whims etc.

Anyone got any exciting weekend plans?

iggypiggy · 29/04/2010 16:32

witty i am knitting at the mo - a cream baby hat... is going slowly as my knitting skills are being dragged out of hibernation... VAG is your knitting expert tho

GOOD LUCK VAGALINA can't believe is 20 weeks already...

CurlyCasper · 29/04/2010 16:35

good luck vag! 20 weeks has come quickly. And enjoy having your whims tended to.

Plans: off to see ma, pa, gran, bro, SIL, nephew, baby niece, best friend and more. so, yeah, I have plans! Laptop going with me, for those many boring moments on the road so I will be here too I expect.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 29/04/2010 16:40

Knitters yay!!! vag hurrah for theatrical knitters, swishing around their needles in an over the top diva kind of way! You can be my adviser when I make a mess of it, as I inevitably will...

iggs delighted I am not alone in reanimating knitting skills in honour of new arrival. It prompted all kinds of hilarious 'nesting' jokes from boyfy, including accusations of stealing his socks etc.

The hat sounds lovely! I was looking for cream wool for the blanket actally, but I didn't find a specialist shop and the one I was in had very little real wool yarn ('twas all cheap acrylic crap, for which I reserve the withering scorn of the truly inexperienced knitter - for all I know 'tis perfect) so I chose a lovely dark blue silk mix one (will be good for wintery November!).

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 29/04/2010 16:42

And good luck with the 20 week scan vag !!!

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 29/04/2010 16:46

cas ok, well, mostly good news. That's good. Grr@ pissing stupid doctors. But as you say, find out the fax first.

switty mucho sorry for teasing although was all in absolutely friendly way

ski yes, chase-me-charlie was FAB. My friend and I used to thrash 'em all at it although it was always her first, me second as hers would jump everything and anything.

pony cool Anyone else for it?

cos me love, aktoolee I am closer than you as I'm closer to the A1M aren't I? I mean, you come from my village down through Castleford and up to the A1M. And furthermore YOB's SIL and kids live in Thorner and that's RIGHT near Bramham so THERE.

iggypiggy · 29/04/2010 16:50

witty I am trying to knit the hat big - so it will be useful for winter the wool is baby wool - which the lovely woman in the shop recommended to me...

carrotsarenottheonlyvegetable · 29/04/2010 16:52

Ye Gods vag 20 weeks? You're not much behind me (27). Good luck for tomorrow! xx

CurlyCasper · 29/04/2010 17:04

sorry if me, me, me but googling has made sense of it.

Baby might need the same type of steroid injection given to those expected to be born early to mature their lungs. Where time is their problem, mine would be a supply issue.
My body, on getting used to the steroids I take daily, might produced fewer natural steroids to boost the fetus's development. So her growth might be affected - even if she goes full term.

So, they'll keep monitoring her size etc (hence the extra scan at 34 weeks) and administer booster steroids if they are needed. At the moment she is growing just fine, so not a problem.

If all is still on track at 34 weeks, they might give me the ok for a MW birth - and the water I covet so much!

If she needs the boost, I'll be straight into the CL unit with those in the know close at hand.

Fair enough.

6 miles to Bramham from mine innit, I don't need to go near the stinky A1 either

fingers crossed for continued good grown then casps

CUNextTuesday · 29/04/2010 17:10

I don't like anything you lot like I only like hockey and motorbikes

Good luck for scan vag. Make sure we can post a pic so we can all compare cuteness bill and coo...

CurlyCasper · 29/04/2010 17:17

I'm scared of hockey and motorbikes

I have no hobbies these days. Former am-dram (on stage and getting creative behind it). Never get round to painting/other art - lazy cow. Was a bit DIY obsessed, but selling house. Nope, no hobbies here (unless you want to count housework and husband/dog training)

Backinthebox · 29/04/2010 17:43

I'd love to join you, Switty in a little dance, but I have two left feet! So I'm sticking with the horses. Can't knit either.

Ski I don't know if you know, but the XC is on Sunday this year (on BBC red button) and then SJing on Monday, again on red button. They had to move the times because of something called an oh-heck-shun debate?

Rots I go to Olympia too - lots of shopping! I haven't been for Puissance night for ages, but I did go to HOYS last year for the Puissance and it was brilliant. I had a friend who invited me into the sponsor's box and we drank champagne

That reminds me, did I ever mention the time I went to Badminton as the personal guest of the Duke of Beaufort? Really! We had him on the plane once and he told me I should go to his little horse show, and a couple of weeks later VIP tickets dropped through the door. Was spoilt, and got to go round all the stables. The gee gees all looked really small and tired after the XC day, but then at the trot-up next day they had all grown a couple of hands and were blinged up with glitter, looking fab. We watched the trot-up that year from the house side - owners, royalty, and me and me mate . Last year I pushed DD in front of me to the front of the crowd saying 'scuse me, my daughter can't see' as I crawled between people's legs. This year DD can stay in bed with OH and BFF and I will go by ourselves and get proper seats.

Cas glad the scan was OK. Bummer about no pics though.

CurlyCasper · 29/04/2010 17:58

I'm not even a ponygirl boxy and that sounds amazing! Get you.

yes, it was a bummer. We didn't even see anything to get pics of. Was a very quick measurements job. I saw top of her head, bit of spine and a foot bone. No face. No visible wriggles/waves

Well the Booking was interesting - got experimented on by the student MW who lets say hasn't quite mastered the art of taking bloods - now look like a pin cushion! Made me realise what will be going into my birth plan - no bloody students/interns/incompetents...

MW was OK - very knowledgeable if not a bit opinionated... and of course my weight was raised as an issue again to the point where I now have been referred to a fat chick preggo consultant... oh, and apparently I should lose weight whilst being pregnant, or at least not put an ounce on - bloody stereotypes, according to the medics I shouldn't have even been able to get pregnant cos I'm a chubby - yet here I am. Satisfyingly my BP was dandy (much to MW surprise!). I did also manage to confirm my NHS scan date for dating and nuchel stuff so that was a relief. All in all an informative trip but I'm still left frustrated by the fattism that runs riot in the NHS despite the fact the rest of me is healthy I'm still branded a burden and bad statistic proposition...

pony Sorry it's taken a while to get the recipe for this but I had to get it from she who must be obeyed - serves about 4 people!

Ingredients:

2 heads of broccoli split into florets and blanched for 5 mins, then strained and left to dry as much as possible (you can also use green beans, but I prefer broc)
1 small roasted chicken with the meat shredded up
2 cans of condensed chicken soup
Mayonnaise (the equivalent amount of 1 can of soup)
Curry powder to taste
Grated Cheddar - as much as you want
Fresh breadcrumbs - enough for a nice covering

Method:

Mix the curry powder with the soup and mayo - add as much as you like
In a dish, layer the broccoli, then chicken and finally soup mayo mix
Grate some cheddar over the top
Add fresh bread crumbs on top of that
Cook in oven for 40 mins GM6/180

Serve with nice green salad and fresh french baguette! Mmmmm

I also have made this www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/european/italian/penne-with-leeks-and-bacon.html which freezes nicely.

SkaterGrrrrl · 29/04/2010 18:33

Sorry you cant have a water-birth Curls!

No nice plans for the wekend VAG - which is itself a nice plan! Potter round house, do some gardening, muck out spare room for SkaterBabe Callumina. Have nice neighbours round for a cup of tea. Bliss!

CUNextTuesday · 29/04/2010 18:55

Going to see my mum in the Lakes this weekend and pick cot up. Can't wait for change of scene and meals I haven't cooked myself . Pity about the weather forecast....
