Thinking of you cherry good luck!

Emster30 · 29/04/2010 18:59

Try to keep us posted if you can Cherry - we were so worried last time! I'm sure you'll be fine but def best to be checked out.

I was back at work today after 2 days off sick with my cold. Still pretty coldy but did some mindless stuff all day and I survived! Now off to choir practice which I could do without but we're doing a concert on Sunday and I don't know half the music...

CazEM · 29/04/2010 19:02

neenz - Yeh you're right, lots of families end up arranging their own 'internal' respite care - we've been really lucky they way it worked out for us. There just isn't enough people registered as respite carers with social services to allocate to everyone who needs respite. Also people don't always realise they are entitled to respite because it requires the allocation of social worker, and many disabled children/adults do not have an allocated social worker - for many people there is still a stigma attached to having a social worker, but without a social worker you miss out on hearing about all the entitlements. Things are not widely advertised.

DH step-brother has cerebal palsy and severe learning difficulties after a traumatic premature birth at 32 weeks. He is very young for his age (18 but much more like a 9/10 yr old in maturity, behaviour etc) CP affects all four limbs so lots of physical difficulties and wheelchair bound. He gets so much money a year allocated to his for respite care in the form of "direct payments", which means the money could go to someone registered as a respite carer with social services, CRB checked etc.

When we started the respite care (which of course we were willing to do without payment) DH's Dad and step-mum insisted on registering us as official respite carers with social services so the direct payments could come to us. Its all worked out by social services and a proper payroll that way. DHs parents said they would rather the money come to us to help with our wedding and now baby than anyone else they may get, and at least with us they know he's getting looked after properly.

I think this is the last time we'll be doing it though - DH will have to do most of the physical stuff by himself this weekend cuz I'm just getting too big, and its not really safe for me to do it cuz step-brother is 18 and size of grown man and I don't think it will be pracitcal to carry on when baby arrives.

He's going to residential college in September so will only be home during holiday times, I think they're going to find an activities worker for him for short term respite and take him out for the few hours/days for those holidays times when he's home. So its all worked out well timing wise really!!

May start respiting for other families a few years down the line though because from my job as well I know how desperate families are for a break. Just gotta put our own little family first for a while now and get used to having a baby!

Chulita · 29/04/2010 19:25

Oh my goodness! I go away for 2 days and look how much you chatter!!
Can I just say on the sensor mat monitors that I'm a big fan. My parents had 2 cot deaths so I'm a bit paranoid anyway. DD set hers off a few times and twice I went in to find her not breathing and had to pick her up and pat her hard to get her to start...bearing in mind they wait 20 secs before going off, then the time it took me to get in there, she'd not been breathing for a while. Those two times alone made it more than worth the money IMO but that's just me.
cherrypie I hope everything's alright for you, fingers crossed!
I've read the thread, sorry for not responding to people properly, DD's ill again so we're not sleeping and I'm headachey and shattered. All I need is a full night's sleep or two before the really uncomfy 3rd trimester beds in...

Bubbabear · 29/04/2010 20:07

Just had a very quick catch-up, brain has not really been in gear this week. Also getting my 3rd cold of the pregnancy & bump has been feeling heavy & tight today, think we've just had another growth spurt. Anyway thats my moaning over!

Thinking of you Cherry.

In terms of lists;
Bubbabear has

  • Avent bottles,
  • bottle steriliser
  • Tommee Tippee monitor plus sensor mat
  • huge box of baby wipe packets
(all because of Asda baby event)
  • Plenty (prob too many!) baby clothes, newborn & 0-3 months
  • Baby bath (given to us)
  • Tens machine (Donated by sister-in-law who never had the chance to use it)
  • 2 packs of newborn nappies size 1 & 2 (because i had free coupons!)

Bubbabear needs

  • ALL nursery furniture!
  • Pram / travel system thingy
  • Moses basket
  • Nice change bag (more wants than 'needs')

So in conclusion Bubbabear is grateful for all the list ideas and now feels like she 'wants' to find the time to go shopping and 'needs' to get her butt in gear! lol

vitapulchra · 29/04/2010 20:41

Cherry, just wanted to say I'm thinking of you and hope this is resolved soon, you poor thing!

Lilypad, about bathing--I had a baby bathtub and a molded seat for newborns, both of which I never used. Once the mw showed me in hospital how to hold a LO properly, I just put each in the big bathtub. Esp. useful now that I always bathe the baby with its siblings.

I'm laughing at all you super-organised list-writers, only because the one thing I've bought for William so far is an oversized stuffed dog. I won't even be able to give it to him until his first birthday! So totally ridiculous, but it's so cute and I got a bargain on Ebay (new) that I couldn't resist! Silly me.

CazEM · 30/04/2010 06:57

Hoping Cherry has been ok overnight...

Alicetheinvisible · 30/04/2010 08:26

Morning

Cherry hope you are ok, this is what happened in my last pg - is very scary, thinking of you

Does anyone else get very painful BH if they do a lot (well, not a lot, but more than perhaps they should?) finding it quite restrictive now tbh.

Also had morning sickness back for the last week. Not actual being sick, more the queasy bit unless i am eating and worse first thing in the morning.

girlsyearapart · 30/04/2010 08:55

morning all.

dd1 woke up in the night then I couldn't get back to sleep and started worrying about cherry mn starts to take over your life..

Anyway looking forward to an update from cherry..

Don't know what we're doing today-weather not looking good even though it did claim to be dry today

Have a friend (dh's cousin) coming to stay for two nights from tonight with her two dcs as her husband also on a stag do. Having a curry and tv night tonight and will probably have a shandy

Chulita · 30/04/2010 09:05

alice I've been having what I assume are BH a lot for the last 3 weeks or so. My bump just gets really tight and the only thing that calms it down is sitting down. It's definitely restrictive, it can get quite painful and it's worse in the evenings. I've also been queasy in the mornings...roll on August!
I can't go out today because DD's still got a fever. She spent most of yesterday cuddled up to me on the sofa whimpering I hate it when she's ill.
Hope cherry gets online to update us today.
Happy friday!

starshaker · 30/04/2010 10:01

Hey all hope cherry is ok.
Was thinking about her last night. Wondering if anybody thought it could be a good idea to have a "buddy" of sorts. I know it can be difficult to keep updating when things are a bit tough and not everybody has access to mn when not at home/work. Just though since we have had a few worrying moments it would be nice if we had contact with somebody else who can say so and so sent me a message and everything is ok or whatever. Not sure how it would work but maybe if we think its a good idea somebody could come up with a plan lol.

babyducky · 30/04/2010 11:22

Hi all, sorry I have been reading but no time to post!

Cherry I hope your ok

starshaker- thats a good idea!

I had a bit of a scare the other day aswell, had really tight pains all morning, think they were braxton hicks, quite painful though, & didnt feel baby kick all morning, so was going to go in to be monitored but then baby done a few big kicks, so I didnt feel too worried, midwife just told me to relax for rest of the day, so i did & the pains went luckily!

We have a grobag egg, its fine, we used to have a better 1 from boots though that had the temp & then the lowest & highest temps it had been throughout the night.

neenz- sorry I know it was ages ago you asked but with breastfeeding I had loads of problems really, the midwives didnt help at all, just left me to it, & I was so exhausted after ds was born I just couldnt stay awake so they took him & gave him formula(they said they asked permission but I dont remember!)

Then another midwife didnt think my milk was coming through properly & kept telling me he was starving & I must switch him to formula, In the end I just gave in

We have got:
Bugaboo bee pushchair
Avent steriliser
lots of clothes
2 packs nappies
2 packs wipes
muslins
Baby monitor(basic 1, cant remember the name!)
Bath support (same as 1 neenz linked to)
Moses basket
Stand for basket
Cot
Cot bedding & sleeping bags

Need to get:
Maxi cosi car seat
Car seat adaptors
Moses basket mattress
Cot mattress
New Avent bottles
Changing mat
Baby nest for bugaboo bee
Changing bag
Tens machine-Can anyone recommend 1? Buy or hire??

mrsZaC · 30/04/2010 11:31

owh I hope cherry is ok, happy thoughts to cherry and her bump, that hopefully is still a bump!

made yummy mummy dark chocolate scones last night, so I'm passing them round, remember to save one for cherry! x

Alicetheinvisible · 30/04/2010 11:41

chulita it is the same here. I think it is much easier when it is your first as you don't have to put someone else first all the time iyswim? Also i think you end up 'ignoring' the signs your body is giving you when you know that niggles are to be expected and anyway, the kids need feeding/entertaining/taking to school etc. There has been a fair bit of cbeebies here for a couple of days!

Star i think that is a good idea, perhaps if everyone could give their opinion/preference then we could maybe get some sort of system set up.

Just updating my 'things' list
Got
Buggy
Moses basket/bedding
Cot/bedding
Car seat
Monitor (basic one that my friend used for her 2, then gave to us and still works)
Sling
14 baby grows 0-3months
2 complete 'newborn' sets (just in case it isn't over 10lb!)
A couple of little cotton hats
7 vests
Change bag

To get
Buggy board
Sheepskin/new buggy liner
Rocking moses basket stand
New teats for bottles
New steriliser
More vests
Baby sunhat
Nappies
Fragrance free babywipes
New changing mat
Disposable changing mats (for in hospital and out and about for the first few weeks)
Present for DD from baby
Some stuff for labour/post birth

To make
More bibs
Some dribble cloths
A bird mobile

Nikalah · 30/04/2010 13:09

MrsZac I saw your link to the pelvic floor toner - brilliant idea - but on doing some research (I'm crap at remembering to do my pelvic floors too) I don't think you should be using them whilst pregnant.

Double check I could be wrong.

CherryPie3 · 30/04/2010 13:35

Hiya ladies

Thank you all for thinking of me - I'm happy to confirm that I still have a bump. Not planning on parting with it just yet (very much thought it was going to happen last night tho!)

Hospital monitored baby and confirmed that I am not in labour, they don't know whats causing it at all. Definitely not another water infection but they also saw how much pain I was in with them and confirmed it's unlikely that it's braxton hicks. So I'm still very about it all. They said bedrest isn't necessary at this stage but I do have to take it easy and no lifting/running(as if)/decorating/standing for too long....
Also not allowed to push anything such as shopping trolleys and vacuums (yessss...).

So even though it's not bedrest - I'm only allowed to watch dh do all the work - and I don't have a problem with that, and surprisingly nor does he . Plus I'm still crampy so he's looking after me bless him.

I honestly believe that I have the worst luck in the world tho cos on the way to the hospital (for GTT) this morning a woman pulled away from the kerb into the side of my car . Got the mw at the hospital to check me and bump over and everythings fine - car isn't tho. Just waiting for garage to come and collect it and drop a hire car off. Why couldn't she just look in her mirror. This is easily the last thing I need.

Well thats enough about me...

Star Thats a really good idea!!! Who's nifty with facebook? What about opening a club thingy for MN ladies due August 2010? Thats what the March ladies did - and I can do facebook from my phone as well

Or we could each have one other persons mobile number like star said - we could then relay any updates to everyone else on here?

GYA I hope you managed to get back to sleep - sorry for keeping you up!! And you're totally right - MN definitely takes over your life, well threads like this do anyway, we're all in the same boat after all. We all have the same thing in common.

Alice Definitely the scariest thing I've ever been through. I hope I can carry to at least 35 weeks, I can handle that I think - 27wks is not the right time to have a baby. Plus - I' quite looking forward to having another summer baby Hope your sudden sickness goes away!!

MrsZaC Mmmmmmm....dark chocolate scones - thank you for saving me one yummy!!

babyducky Hope you're ok honey after your scare!

xxxx

thanks Nikalah I didn't think about that I found this on net doctor...

"Your doctor or continence specialist may advise you not to use cones if:

you are pregnant and have a history of miscarriage or have been advised to avoid sex"

this to me suggests I'll be ok, as this is my first pregnancy and I definately haven't been advised against sex! infact I'm sure a penis would do more harm than one of these things.... what do you think?

mrsZaC · 30/04/2010 13:47

yey! glad your ok cherry and back for your dark chochie scone!

I've setup a facebook group for those of you who have a fbook....search group: August 2010 Babies (mnet thread)
