Hi

No need to change the list for me - still a surpise.....

Had a dream last night before the scan where DH was too busy parking the car and I ran in to get scanned before he came in and she told me it was a girl - and then I had to pretend to DH that I hadn't found out!

The baby was good - sucking on it't thumb and generally moving about an awful lot. Been quite emotional so was having a bit of a cry when the sonogrpaher said I was too uptight and I should speak to my midwife as she didn't think I was okay and coping very well.

just because I was crying...... (and not big huge sobs just a few tears) so now am super paranoid! But then she fell off her chair so I suppose that was karma coming to my aid!

There were some white circles on a couple of my pics but not on the others so am not sure boy/girl.... well we'll find out in 19 weeks!

I need a pavlova now!

bouncingblueberries · 20/04/2010 14:14

Oh sparkle it's completely normal to be emotional! You're pregnant ffs! Stoopid sonographer

bouncingblueberries · 20/04/2010 14:15

soontobefatnat you'll like this - I just bought Amy Butler's Little Stitches for Little Ones - itching to get home to my fabric stash and sewing machine now!

ElusiveMoose · 20/04/2010 14:33

Sparkle, what a cow! (the sonographer, not you ). Sounds like she wasn't coping too well with sitting on a chair, which I'd say is more of a worry than being a bit emotional at seeing your firstborn child for probably only the second time .

Grrr. Day is getting worse. I fear that we have reached the end of the lunchtime nap. DS has been chattering away to himself for the last 45 minutes in his cot, and I think there's zero chance of him dropping off now. Those with older toddlers - what do you do when they drop the nap? Do you still put them in their room for a 'rest', or do you substitue with CBeebies 'quiet time' activities, or is it just business as usual? I think he's only slept for 1 out of the last 4 times I've put him down at lunchtime, so I think that's probably that. (Plus he's going in a bed in a few weeks, which will almost certainly be the final straw.) Just when I really need some downtime during the day .

pamplem0usse · 20/04/2010 15:05

Sparkle poor thing - since when was she qualified to make statements about your mental health?! Ignore her, it's not her role.... people will have a whole gamete of perfectly normal reactions when they see their babies....
Try and have a nice relaxing day now!

Elusive sorry about your DS and your like of restful time... maybe it's just a short blip. Let's hope, hey?

xx

p.s. I'm currently trying to help my brother, sister, mother and father in laws get home from NY. They have a flight that theoretically gets in 11.35am tomorrow, but if that doesn't go they have a 10 day wait until they can get home. Nightmare.

Alicetheinvisible · 20/04/2010 15:12

sparkle what a silly woman!

elusive DD is 2.6 now and only naps about once a week now, but will happily snuggle up on the sofa whilst watching The Gruffalo while i nap on the sofa. You may find the naps come back again once you move him into a bed as the chances are he will be staying awake later at night. We let DD play in her room for as long as she liked the first week so as to get over the novelty of it, just put her to bed half hour earlier, and have a stairgate on her room.

loobyt · 20/04/2010 16:30

sparkle that's awful, so glad the silly moo fell of her chair!

Elusive my DS dropped his lunchtime nap at 1.7, was and has been business as usual all day since then, no quiet time here. He would occasionally drop of in the car once or twice a week but that only lasted a couple of months. I know how you feel, I really missed that hour and half of break and peace in the middle of the day.

I've got a really horrid summer head cold DH has just had a digger delivered so I have the noise of that and my barking dog to help ease my head [hmmm]

ANyone heard from cherry, do hope she is okay.

neenz · 20/04/2010 16:40

Elusive I would keep the nap going as long as possible, even if he is not falling asleep, if he is going happily into his cot at least it is a break for you. Keep him in there for longer than 45 mins if he is happy! The DTs still have a two-hour nap but often won't drop off until the last half an hour or so. I can't cope if they have less than two hours . I am sure when the new baby comes you will be even more in need of that break. I am also thinking of switching to beds (DTs are 2 in 2 weeks ) but I think I will hold off for a while longer as I have been advised by other wise MNers to keep the cots as cages as long as possible . But I might try to take a side off their cots this weekend so they can get out if they want to, see how it goes.

ronx · 20/04/2010 17:22

I'm still here! Just been quiet as I'm trying to sell our house. Knowing my luck I will go into labour and have to move house in the same week!

The little one is still a surprise. We are not going to find out at the scan next week as we figured that we have more than enough boy stuff from DS1 and we'll be swamped with pink stuff from family and friends if it's a girl.

DS1 is two years old and I can no longer rely on him having an afternoon nap every day. If he goes through until bedtime without a kip, then at least I know that I won't hear a peep out of him all night .

CazEM · 20/04/2010 17:53

Evening all...

Really concerned for Cherry - it is so unlike her to not to post... I really hope she is ok!

I'm having another shattered day today - the end of term is feeling a long long way off! Thanks again for concern for DH, I don't think the worry is helping my tiredness but just gotta wait a few days to see if these treatments show any improvment.

Aabs · 20/04/2010 18:10

Im due 8th August!

Emster30 · 20/04/2010 19:26

I'm worried for cherry too - hopefully she'll be on before long.

ElusiveMoose you made me laugh out loud with your comment about Sparkle's sonographer not coping with sitting on a chair! Silly woman.

I've booked my 28 week midwife appointment for Monday although I'll only be 27 weeks - the clinic is only on a Monday and the next week is a bank holiday. So today I went for the blood tests I needed to get done before that appointment. The clinic started at 8.45 and I got there at 9am. It;'s a take a ticket system and I got number 15 - only to discover they were only on number 50! There were 65 people ahead of me. It took over an hour and a half, what a nightmare! My neighbour has now told me you can get them done at the AN clinic at the hospital and get in and out jn 20 mins so will go for that if there is a next time.

Emster30 · 20/04/2010 20:27

Also, we were hoping to get away for a last holiday with just the two of us, but it hasn't been possible before the election (and am very glad I didn't book flights for tomorrow as I had planned to early last week!). We'll probably try to get away in the UK after the election (bit late to fly then, plus I don't fancy booking flights at the moment).

So anyway the plan is to maybe get a last minute break somewhere hot when the baby is 6-8 weeks old. Everyone generally says it's much easier to travel when the baby is young. If we're having a horrendous time we won't bother, but I hope so!

Chulita · 20/04/2010 20:53

elusive DD is 17 months and has recently started wanting to stay up til half 8 at night. I was wondering whether it was the end of naptime, maybe the 2-3 hours she has at lunch is making her not want to sleep at night but I don't know if I can cope without her nap! (she's still up now and just screams if we put her in bed...what's up with her I have no idea!)

Hope cherry gets on here tomorrow!

Bubbabear · 20/04/2010 20:57

Evening everyone,

Just wanted to say;

Best thoughts for Cherry

Wohoo for you Nat! Sparkle 'sticking tonue out' smiley to your horrible sonographer! Its luck of the draw who you get isnt it? I had an emergency scan at 10 weeks with a sonographer who was pretty frosty, took an age to tell me there was still a heartbeat & then tried to get me to cancel my planned scan at 13 weeks because she said the baby was big enough to do the nuchal tests there & then. She tried to make me feel guilty for having an 'extra' scan & that it would be better to 'free up' an appointment for someone else! (i didnt let her cancel it btw. i am a quiet, calm person but can stick to my guns when needs be!).

In contrast the lady we had last week was absolutely lovely, so friendly & even seemed excited for us. Plus she made a huge effort to get a good picture for us when bubs kept hiding his face

On the faith in humanity front, on my 4 & a half hour train journey the other week (complete with big suitcase) i had to get 3 different trains. There was no problems with seats, it was the lifting my suitcase on & off the trains that nobody (except 1) person helped me with. That one person was a guy who actually looked quite dodgy! He must have been about my dad's age, scruffily dressed, very unshaven with messy hair. He got up, picked up my suitcase for me, carried it onto the platform & told me his daughter was pregnant too & would hate the thought of her struggling on her own with nobody offering to help her. Then he wished me a good journey & got back on the train - he wasnt even getting off at my stop! Just goes to show a sharp business suit doesnt come with kindness & compassion.

Nearly half way through the week...

neenz · 20/04/2010 21:22

Chulita, the DTs have been waking quite early in the morning (6.30am) and I think it is cos they are having too much daytime sleep - but like you I can't bear to shorten it! Three hours, though, that's just greedy . It's a shame she won't go to bed at night tho, I think that would convince me to shorten the nap, cos there's one part of the day I like better than nap time - bedtime . The DTs often don't go straight to sleep at 7pm but they will chat to each other for a couple of hours before dropping off . But in the mornings when they wake they scream and shout at each other!

neenz · 20/04/2010 21:24

Ooh Ems, how annoying about the bloods!

Ronx, I was just wondering today where you were and if you were ok . My fellow journo

CherryPie3 · 20/04/2010 21:24

Evening guys - sorry for keeping you all waiting!! Very bad mannered of me

I'm very tired from all drugs and jabs so have copied and pasted this post from the pregnancy thread I started.

I promise I will read more and reply more personally to each of you when I feel a bit better. Just wanted to let you all know whats been happening...

....

Hey guys thank you for checking up on me, I've literally been home from hospital about 20minutes.

As soon as I called mw she told me to go straight in to hospital, they examined me and confirmed that there was blood in my urine - which could be causing the cramps. So I'm on anti-biotics for a UTI.

Then the cramps were coming every 20 minutes and the staff kinda raised there eyebrows and decided to get some steriods into my system to help the baby's lungs just in case my body was going into labour. They did an internal which showed cervix to be long and closed (what a relief!!). Kept me in overnight for observation and was finally discharged at 7pm tonight. Still having cramps but theres no pattern to them now.
Although I've been discharged - I get the feeling they're expecting me back in, their parting words were "see you in a few weeks" . Am hoping a few months is more like it. I got the impression also that they feel this baby will be early - so I may be the one with the first baby bundle. Although I hope only a little bit early...

I did try to update you all from dh's phone but it wouldn't let me. I'm very grateful that you were checking in on me tho!!!

Thanks again

Cherry, that's great news, what a relief. Hope the baby decides to stay put for a good while longer yet!

CellyD · 20/04/2010 21:28

Thanks to everyone for their advice today. You have all been a whole lot more helpful than those I had asked until now, I like my new MN family

ElusiveMoose I?ll have my fingers crossed for a baby that likes to sleep but I know you are right ultimately I?ll just have to see how it goes and get some pics from DP if I stay at home.

CellyD · 20/04/2010 21:33

Cherry just posted then I saw your message, that's good news, glad you are back home from hospital!

Bubbabear · 20/04/2010 21:35

Yay Cherry, lovely to see you back on here. It must have been so scary for you, bet its nice to get home again. Put your feet up & take it easy hon x Hope bubs is way to comfy & snuggled up in there to want to put in an appearence anytime soon

ElusiveMoose · 20/04/2010 21:50

Yay, Cherry, thank goodness you're back! Scary times, but sounds like things are settling down again hopefully .

Thanks for all your advice about naps. Neenz, I think you're right - I'm going to keep putting him down for a nap for the time being, on the basis that he might sleep occasionally, and when he doesn't he's perfectly happy chatting to himself (and I love listening to him over the monitor - mostly he's either chatting about Chuggington or trying to spell; today he spent about five minutes trying (unsuccessfully!!) to spell 'coriander', because we bought some at the supermarket yesterday ).

And I guess I can't really complain - 2.7 is not that early to stop napping, and he does sleep like a dream at night.

Right, I'm off to bed with a good book, happy in the knowledge that Cherry's back .

vix206 · 20/04/2010 21:54

Yay Cherry glad you're okay! Makes me wonder if I should go to MW after all, my pains have mostly gone but still there on and off - worse when I am walking and upright and I have been thinking that they do feel like they are local to my bladder.... although no other symptoms of a water infection or anything. I'll see how I am in the morning. Glad you're okay though! xx

pamplem0usse · 20/04/2010 21:55

Cherry thank goodness.... so relieved, was very worried for you. Get plenty of rest, and we'll be passing on positive vibes to you :-)

Must go to bed, looks like my in-laws will all be on a flight from NY tomorrow PM arriving silly o clock Thursday morning.... which means I'll be up silly o clock to pick them up as we can't get another taxi booking!

Night night all....
