Afternoon

Glad you've brought up the issue of long car journeys - my husband is Best Man for a chap we don't know particularly well (whole other story) I'll only know one other couple there and he'll be caught up with best-man-esque duties.

I'll be 37 weeks and it's 125 miles away. At the moment I've said we'll go up the day before and stay in a hotel then leave after the meal. And I MEAN leave after the meal!!

Do you think this schedule will be workable.... or am I kidding myself?

Oh and another for the crap sleep club - just seeing it as a warm-up to the main event. Sore ribs are a real bother though.

bouncingblueberries · 19/04/2010 15:21

Oh alice loving your thread on freezable meal ideas - will watch with interest.

We did this before the arrival of ds and it really helped. iirc, we froze bolognaise, mince (as in mince & tatties), shepherds pie, chicken curry and some bags of roast chicken pieces which we used in stir-fry, curry or in sarnies. Just made double then froze half for a couple of meals a week.

Will do the same this time, but will be harder as we tend to make double then eat the second batch later on in the week to save on cooking. Interesting that cheese sauce freezes well though (darn, wish I'd ordered some sauce bags from Lakeland earlier!)

mrsZaC · 19/04/2010 15:22

alice that would make sense, I first got it when walking with DH and he's walking too fast for me at the moment!

blueberries good to hear from someone else, do you find the quinny bulky? x

Bubbabear · 19/04/2010 15:27

Mmmmm just read your list thread Alice, craving all sorts of things now! Is half 3 a bit early for dinner..? Perhaps i should get a few more odd jobs done first!

bouncingblueberries · 19/04/2010 15:37

MrsZac no, we don't find it bulky but must admit after months and months of lugging it in and out of the boot we switched to keeping a cheap lightweight stroller in the car for shopping trips. But loved the sturdiness of the Quinny, especially when ds was small. We did also look at the mountain buggy but plumped for the Quinny in the end because you could switch the way the seat faced. HTH

parkgirl · 19/04/2010 15:37

bubba I know what you mean! I have the box room to strip for the decorating to begin but seem to have levitated towards the laptop and some jelly babies!

bouncingblueberries · 19/04/2010 15:38

Top tip for the Quinny - buy a foot pump for inflating the tyres and keep them well inflated

vix206 · 19/04/2010 15:54

I've been having period type pains today as well! So much so I keep checking for blood But I am sure its all fine and just stretching etc. so not worrying too much. Not seen Cherrypie's thread but hope she's okay!

Re boys names, its so funny but I found girls names so much harder because there are just too many gorgeous names to choose from, whereas for a boy I only have a shortlist of 3 or 4 which makes the decision easier (once I can get DH to agree that is!)

Dibbydab · 19/04/2010 16:09

Vix, if in doubt ring your midwife, even if it's just for reassurance - she'll probably tell you to put your feet up and take some paracetemol, but it'll make you feel better if it comes from an expert - big hugs.

So spill on your boys names - I need some inspiration , in the early stages I had a thing for boys names with religious conitations for some reason (Emmanuel, Gabriel etc) needless to say DH knocked those on the head

bouncingblueberries · 19/04/2010 16:14

Oh I need inspiration for boys names too - was easy when we had ds as we just used our favourite boys name. Girls name sorted ( I think) but really struggling with boy names!

bouncingblueberries · 19/04/2010 16:17

vix I had some period-type pains the other day but didn't think much of it - they disappeared and I felt ok otherwise. But agree with dibby that you should phone your midwife if you're worried (wish I had - would be nice to be TOLD to put my feet up for awhile )

Alicetheinvisible · 19/04/2010 16:17

Vix put your feet up for half and hour or have a soak in the bath. If that doesn't ease it then you should definitely ring your MW. Hope it is ok.

Boys names - we are planning on going with family names, at the moment i like Frederick (Fred) or Henry, and still considering Edward. DH likes Oscar at the moment, (isn't a family name)

CazEM · 19/04/2010 16:18

Afternoon all!

Thats 3 of us now who have chosen Violet for a middle name for our girls! (Dibby and Emster) I love it, really pretty I reckon! It was in our shortlist for first names but we decided we liked "Belle" as a short name better than "V" or "Vi" so Anabelle Violet it is!

Worried about Cherry - where is this thread? Hope your ok too Vix, ring your MW if you're worried or feeling particularly unwell, its what she is there for.

Regarding trips while pregnant, my cousin in getting married in Plymouth 8 days before I'm due. (about 150 miles away) - I really want to go, but am I being insane by even thinking of attempting it? Even if we did there are back in a day? I'll be absolutely gutted if I miss the wedding, we're a close family. Do I just see how I feel in the few days leading up to the wedding and decide whether I'm up to it or not at the time? On the other hand, by the time I'm that pregnant a 300 mile round trip will be the last thing I'll be gutted about not doing I'm sure!! You never know she may have even arrived before the wedding! Haha! [Unconvinced smiley]!

DH leg is no better, the redness and slight swelling has spread so I'm sending him back to the GP at 4.40. After 3 days on antibiotics surely if not better yet, shouldn't be spreading still. I'm probably being the paranoid wife but I'd rather them just check it again. Been wondering if it is cellulitis if it isnt clot related - it looks like it to me, I've had it in the past and it can get nasty really quick. Why do you have to nag men to go to GP/Hosp though? He is only going to "keep me happy" he says - good I say! Haha!

Nearly onto Tuesday, one step closer to the next weekend. God I'm wishing this term away! Come on 16th July!

vix206 · 19/04/2010 16:22

I'm at work at the moment and have a 40 minute walk home But seriously, not worried at all I am sure its just pulling/growing aches..

Missus84 · 19/04/2010 17:11

Is it aching or cramping vix? Aches shouldn't be a problem but if it's crampy pain you should call your midwife asap.

Aussieng · 19/04/2010 17:20

Hello ladies - hope you have all had good days and everything is ok with Cherry/Vix. I've had quite bad pains which I would describe as crampy but generally just when I have been bending over or not sitting very upright. It feels just like my tummy is finding it hard work to hold up an entire baby and starting to protest so I assume all is ok.

Your car journey queries are amusing me - I would have no problem with the idea of doing any of those journeys - is it that I am used to doing huge amounts of travelling (I used to have a 90 mile commute to work - each way) or is it a first time mum's naivety?

Very grey day here today - hope it perks up for my few days off this week. If DH had not quit his job we would have been not going to Turkey this week thanks to the flights being grounded! Every cloud - even a volcanic one...

Bad day at work - got a great project last week and have just been told today that I'm not allowed to work on it. It's not even a pregnancy/maternity timing issue which I could accept it is because I am conflicted. So stupid and my boss is livid and in shoot the messenger (ie me) mode.

CazEM · 19/04/2010 17:43

DH back from GP, suggesting as it is tracking down leg following the route of one of the major veins that is an infection and with an inflammed vein, possibly related to clotting. So now has a cream to use as well as antibiotics and sent away again to see how the treatment goes and to go back again in a few days if it is no better for blood tests to check for clots. OMG. If that is even a remote possibility why wait another few days to do a blood test given his medical history and the lucky he didn't die last summer cuz of clots?! I'm gunna be uber stressed about him now for the next week.

Aussie - conflicted? also I had no issue with attempting the car journey to plymouth, but I told people I was gunna do it and they were like - you shouldn't be travelling that far at 39 weeks etc, So I too wondered if I was being a naive first time mother and now wondering if it is such a good idea.... Just see how I am in the week leading up I think and decide the night before!

Decided I'm shattered now girls, hormones and emotions are definately getting the better of me tonight. I'd go for a sleep now if someone from work didnt want to ring and speak to me soon. It would be nice sometimes to come home and be able to switch off from bloody work. Not in the mood for this phone call. Grrr

girlsyearapart · 19/04/2010 17:50

evening all.

UK airspace due to re open tomorrow so will finally (hopefully) get my parents back soon

My best friend got married in Northampton ten days before dd1 was due- we drove from London.

It was fine just took hosp notes and hosp bag with us.

Just as well it wasn't dd2 as I went into labour 11 days early and she was born 3 hours later!

At least with dd1 (who arrived on her due date) I had plenty of build up like back aching, contractions building then waters breaking but with dd2 one minute I was fine and the next my waters broke.

Feeling a bit funny about going too far esp on my own with the dds from about 37 wks!

babyducky · 19/04/2010 17:54

Thanks marzipananimal

Cazem- the thread is in pregnancy topic, sorry I cant do links! Its called period pains at 25 weeks or something like that.
Hope she is ok, you aswell vix

neenz · 19/04/2010 18:01

Cazem, sorry about your DH and the worry - hope everything works out ok.

Travelling late on is a difficult one - if you don't go to the wedding 8days before due date and then go two weeks over you might be very that you were so careful! I think waiting to see how you feel in the run-up is the best idea.

I think a christening at 36wks - it depends how important the people are, if it's just to go for a piss-up and see friends then I think no if you really don't want to go/want dh to go, but if it is important then it is very unlikely you will go into labour that early if you have had no complications so should be fine. 400 miles is a bloody long way tho! Is he going to drive?

I love Zoe for a name. Alice too - but they are two of my sisters' names so I am a bit biased and I can't use them myself! I like Hannah for a girl and Ben for a boy. I like Noah too but Dh says no way!

I am sleeping ok at night but keep getting quite tired around lunchtime and have a nap most days if I am not at work.

vix206 · 19/04/2010 18:51

I'm fine, not cramping not aching - just like a sort of stitch pain or stretching pain - I can feel it is muscular and nothing to worry about. Just an instinctive thing I guess. I would call midwife if I was concerned I promise

Back home now in bed with laptop, going to take it easy. DH treated me to a pizza on the way home

Emster30 · 19/04/2010 19:12

CazEm yes it's interesting Violet is such a popular middle name! It was my dad's mum's name, I never met her, and I thought it would be nice to have a family name in there.

Hope cherry is OK.

Off to choir now, back later!

Chulita · 19/04/2010 19:32

I had really bad period/appendicitis type pains Sunday before last. I was quite worried cos it really really hurt for about 36hrs. My mum was down and she said to wait it out and it did go eventually but it was horrible. I think it was just one of those things.
I've been constipated for ages now and I'm very bored of it. Going to ask the MW for something next time I see her cos it's annoying me.

I didn't like travelling late on in pregnancy simply because it was too uncomfortable with DD right up under my ribs and poking my bladder. Sitting in the car for longer than about 30mins was horrendous so I'm definitely not going anywhere long distance after about 34ish weeks but that's just me.

I'm off to bed soon, that walk has kicked my arse!
'night all

cazzybabs · 19/04/2010 19:41

I am trying to persuade dh to go on holiday at 38/39 weeks

neenz · 19/04/2010 19:55

Chulita I got really constipated during my first pregnancy and it was horrible so I really feel for you. I thought I had a really good diet but when I looked into it I read you should be eating about 25g of fibre a day and when I checked the labels of foods I was eating I was only getting about 15g a day. It's acutally quite hard to get 25g cos even so-called high-fibre foods like brown rice actually only have about 3g fibre per 100g! All-bran was great (IIRC 11g fibre per serving) plus wholemeal bread (3-4g per slice) and prunes/figs, plus lots of fluids too. After about three days of eating 25g fibre per day I was having no problems at all.
