Hey All and welcome to all joiners.

RaceyLacey: I feel just like you - I can barely get off the sofa and although DH is being fantastic I can't help feeling like a burden.

Wholelottalove - I've decided to take voluntary redundancy so I can stay at home with Tiny and then go back to university next year. My work are re-structuring, at first I thought it was a disaster, but when I saw the size of the redundancy package - which includes all my maternity pay, it seemed like a dream come true. I came completely out of the blue so I hope you'll get your wish too.

DuelingFanjo · 02/05/2010 17:51

Hi all.

Sorry to hear some of you are feeling so sick. I feel a fraud as I have had no nausea at all, though the tiredness is kicking in a bit.

I feel decidedly unpregnant as my body doesn't seem to be doing any of the things I have read it's supposed to do, well, apart from needing to pee a couple of times at night and an expanding bustline.

I am tentatively starting to look at things on ebay that I might need like a maternity coat for winter, some tops for summer. What is everyone else doing RE clothes? I have a couple of pairs of maternity jeans and some which are a size too big for me and suppose that I won't need them for a few more weeks but I am finding it hard to fit into my old tops and dresses as my boobs are noticibly bigger. Should I invest in some maternity tops or just buy bigger T-shirts for the first few weeks? I don't want people in Work to guess. I also don't know what to do about Bras - do John lewis do a bra size check for free?

This is all so new to me.

DuelingFanjo · 02/05/2010 17:59

Miffster I really fancied a glass of wine yesterday too. Not so much the fags (though I was a smoker up until a few months ago) as the smell really irritates me. DH had a friend round and while I was sleeping deeply at 2.30 in the afternoon they were drinking wine and having tipsy fun downstairs!

I wondered, how are you finding becoming a mum for the first time at, ahem, a more advanced age than some others? I was 40 in April and have realised recently that I am considered quite old for a first child and I don't really like it much as I still feel quite young and hip!

mumnerves · 02/05/2010 18:56

miffster I tried the crystallised ginger and it made me worse (I never said I was normal) the only thing that helps me are apples so I'm on at least 3 a day at the moment, I guess at least they're healthy.

mumatron I am also just either sitting on my backside, sleeping or eating at the moment. It's just so hard trying to do anything, I either feel shattered or sick!

Emma hope you have a relaxing time and feel better for it

duelingfanjo I have only bought 2 new tops for work and am just about squeezing into my trousers. I don't want to buy anything until my first scan. My boobs are humongous and I can see them growing even bigger so am just wearing my biggest bras for now. Asda do some cheap sports bras and I'm heading there tomorrow to get some to get me through for now.

I'm eating like a child at the moment, just eating childish meals like beans on toast, chicken nuggets and cheese sarnies. Veg and meat make me feel sick so just forcing down the bare minimum. Surviving on fruits and carbs, which is so unlike me, I have never been a fussy eater!

Sorry haven't caught up with everyone as this thread goes so quickly just wanted to wish everyone a good weekend!

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/05/2010 19:09

Another thread-crasher here! I've been dithering about joining because I had 2 MCs before having DS, who is now 26 months old, and I just don't take the first trimester for granted nowadays! Can't quite shake the feeling that I'm jinxing myself by admitting out loud that I'm 6 weeks today, and joining this thread! Daft, I know - does anyone else feel like that?

I am due on 26th Dec, like Cyd4, and trying to get my head around having a Christmas baby (and praying for a January one!). A tiny bit of nausea so far, very tender nipples and tingly boobs, and I feel dizzy sitting down sometimes. And I've been really tired. Some of it seems to have eased off in the last couple of days and I'm trying not to panic.

Oh, and I'm joining the 'twangy, crampy pains' club! I had this with DS too - went on for ages.

DuelingFanjo · 02/05/2010 19:22

Reshape, I felt like that and only joined after I had an early scan last week because I miscarried last year.

Congratulations on your pregnancy

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/05/2010 19:30

DF - thanks! How easy was it for you to get an early scan, and was it on the NHS? With my third pregnancy (DS) I couldn't get a scan earlier than the standard 12 wk dating scan.

I ended up paying for a private scan at 10 weeks because I was about to go on holiday and didn't want another MMC that might 'develop' while I was away. And I had a great scan, saw DS very clearly, etc.

QueenofDreams · 02/05/2010 20:25

DF the bra fitting service at John Lewis is free. Same for M&S.

nerves I'm also finding that apples work wonders for the ms. I'm also eating about 3 a day, although DS keeps nicking them off me

novice only just saw that you're finally over the kidney infection. Good to hear you're back in figting trim.

Hi to our new joiners

Wholelottalove · 02/05/2010 20:35

Hello to all new joiners

LittleSnoo really glad it's worked out for your with the redundancy package. I am sure something will work out for me too.

DF - I didn't need that many maternity tops last time until I got really big because the fashion was for those long loose tops. I'm currently in a pair of early maternity jeans and some baggy tracksuit bottoms. Work is main problem as my trousers are impossibly tight now. I might order some of those trouser extender thingies as I don't really want to dig my maternity stuff out for work yet...

Still v sick today, finding sucking on sweets is helping a bit. Kind of dreading going back to work on Tues as I feel so tired..I'm sure it wasn't this bad last time but DH assures me it was! I guess you forget.

DuelingFanjo · 02/05/2010 20:53

Reshape I get my early scans because I had IVF. I'm so lucky that I get another in 2 weeks

moomaa · 02/05/2010 22:39

So glad to hear that other people are having their clothes not fit. One pair of my jeans is going to go in the bin (not worth saving until after) the other pair are ok for now. Am wearing cords that I was sure would be fine, but not sure I will be wearing them again.

I will have to dig out the boxes of maternity clothes and see if there is anything suitable for early days, my friend gave me a box of stuff ages ago and I'm not sure what's in there, will be fun to have a see.

I think buying stuff in bigger sizes is a good idea for these early days as you'll wear it again on the way back down to normal afterwards and it's less depressing to wear non maternity clothes afterwards, even if they're a size too big.

I'm quite excited at the mop because it's my booking in on Tuesday, I'll be 8+6.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/05/2010 23:08

DF - do'h! Sorry, I've only just found this thread and hadn't read all the posts. I did read back and find your bit, though. It's not lucky, it's a necessity. (and handy! )

I was on a diet until I got my positive test and had just managed to cram myself into some (rather baggy) size 12s. Now my 14s are too tight and I've already dug out my 16s. I found this last time - lots of early bloating and I can't stand any restriction across my waist (which is obviously miles away from what's going on in my womb at the moment!). I could never wear under-bump jeans either - only the hard-to-find over-bump variety. There's that to look forward to...

mumatron · 03/05/2010 08:36

morning all.

well, the sickness has started i feel soooo grim.

have not moved since friday. cant eat anything. even when im starving i cant manage to eat.

6wks tomorrow and have my viability scan on fri. cant wait.

off back to bed now, will try an wrestle the laptop off ds later so i can post again.

JodieO · 03/05/2010 09:56

Miffster - I've not felt like any alcohol at all, and I'm not feeling sick. Dp hasn't drank either, maybe that's helped! I've been going to bed really early too, 9.30 the other night and I was a real night owl.

mumatron - Ah the sickness started I'm with you on the mood swings; I feel sorry for dp

Rapunzel Welcome We made the playdough but haven't done the rest yet, plan to today as it's a rainy day and we've been out the rest of the weekend. This is where I got it planning on leaving it about a week to dry.

emmaxmas Sorry you're feeling sick now and I hope the pains have improved.

Velvetcu Welcome We've already told parents, dp's brother and his gf and some friends; I've had 6 miscarriages but the way I see it is that if something happens we'll tell people anyway so we may as well let them enjoy it too. Hope you feel better soon

Cyd4 Welcome

LittleSnoo My dp is the same, really doing a lot. Your reduncy package sounds good

DuelingFanjo I only had a few bits of mat clothes left from previous times, been looking about as my trousers/jeans are getting decidedly tight.

mumnerves I'm eating lots but I thought the lack of alcohol would even it out but I've already put on a couple of pounds and I have no idea how! Been doing lots of walking too, tis odd.

Reshape Welcome I know what you mean, I've had 6 and it's always a worry after having a miscarriage isn't it. I'm hoping baby comes before Christmas tbh (due Christmas day so far!) as ds2 was born in Jan and I'd rather it wasn't so close.

moomaa definitely me too, will have to start looking at things to buy

Morning all, I feel really odd today, all my symptoms seems to have disappeared overnight and I'm really worried. Cramps on and off but I feel really awful, like something is wrong. I'm panicking a bit now Had plans to go out today with the kids but it's raining on and off so trying to figure out something else to do. Will be doing the hand and foot casts later on so that will be something. Hope everyone else is OK.

rosietoestoo · 03/05/2010 11:53

Hi there, can i join? Was on the pregnancy thread but postings slowing on that one so hope its ok if I pop over here!

I'm due 24th December, first time & very excited although apprehensive too. Feeling very nauseated & being sick abit...not nice. Although I've found rich tea biscuits quite good, better than ginger nuts for me.

Just wondering about bras- know people have said to get fitted & intend to but do you know is it better to go for non under wired ones? Had a look at the selecion in m&s of non under wired & they all looked decidedly yuck! Though I know comfort is likely to be the most important thing!

Take care

chloesbaby · 03/05/2010 13:22

I'm expecting my first on 27 December. 6 weeks today! We're both very excited, but sickness has now kicked in. Nearly threw up this morning just opening the fridge and smelling the packet of coffee inside! Also v sore boobs and tweaking feelings in abdomen.
Also slightly worried financially - I left my job in March due to stress to work freelance, and now pressure is really on to make it work.
Seeing doctor on Thursday for the first time - any advice on what questions to ask would be great - this is all very new to me and no babies in our family for yonks!

OnlyWantsOne · 03/05/2010 16:09

Hey all,

Quick flying visit - camping was cold, took a trip to nearest Argos and bought a 13.5 tog quilt - problem solved.

9 + 3 today, feeling like crap, and now have to go make cakes with my DD

Happy Banky Everyone xx

Miffster · 03/05/2010 16:53

Yo ladies, welcome new joiners,

hope everyone is less sicky today.

Yesterday I didn't feel nauseous at all, (woo!) just hungry all day and ate man size portions of everything. Had dieted down to a size 12 before all this started and am worried that I will fly straight back up to a 16 BEFORE I even start showing a bump.

Particularly do not want to get flabby chin and puffy face syndrome. But why is exercise so flipping exhausting right now? If I don't do it first thing in the morning, it's hopeless because by midday I am shattered.

Am relieved that others are needing bigger/looser sizes already, never mind the expanding sore tits problem. There's a younger, slimmer girl at work who is 6 months and she barely shows at all. My boss, who now knows I'm PG said 'oh, you won't put on any weight til at least August will you? Look at (slimgirl's name), nobody knew at all'.

And boss doesn't seem to understand that tiredness is a symptom. I think if you aren't showing a big bump then you aren't feeling any symptoms in her world. So if I say I feel shattered and spent the weekend sleeping, she looks at me blankly.

Duelingfanjo I've not had any remarks about being 39/an older first time mum yet, from medical people etc but haven't had first antenatal appt yet so I expect there is time. I don't feel old either...if anyone gives me grief I will probably kill them, am quite hormonal at the moment. Have you had people remarking on it then?

LittleSnoo, well done on the redundancy package!
Wholelottalove, pleased for you about your man's news as well ( though bummer about Saturday mornings)

Miffster · 03/05/2010 16:58

mumnerves, sorry the ginger didn't work! the apples sound much healthier though

JodieO ended up sipping a taste of DH's wine and nearly puked. So it was obviously the idea that got me, not the reality. The smell of fags makes me gag, nto so much the smoke drifting in from outside, but the ashtray smell on DH's breath and clothes when he comes in from the garden. But have just persuaded DH to use a flash inhalator from the electric cigarette company, which is brilliant - you can smoke it and get a nicotine hit, and inhale a steam vapour, but it doesn't smell and it doesn't contain any of the nasties in cigarettes.

Joy!

MrsSnaplegs · 03/05/2010 20:07

Hello [wave]

May I join too? EDD 7 Dec according to Dr but suspect actually between 12th and 18th based on going over last time and knowing pretty much to the day when conception was (don't ask!)
Already have one lovely DD age 4yr 8 months and we were going to settle with 1 however the stork seems to have come calling again so happily making the most of still being fertile and able to provide a sibling!
I am 37 and work full time - will be moving job and house in Jun/Jul this year so split ante natal care again! Did the same last time because of work but hey-ho I'm sure it will be fine! Hubby is currently house hubby and was plannign to go back to work once DD starts FT school in Sept - looks like a little while longer at home for him although if I plan it properley could get a few months work out of him whilst I am on maternity leave!!

Looking forward to the next 7 months - may not get on here much initially as work is anti internet for obvious reasons (not very productive!)

Hopefully we can enjoy the journey together!

Mrs S

mumnerves · 03/05/2010 21:10

mumatron sorry the sickness has started It really is horrible isn't it?! This is my first as well and nothing really prepares you for it! Coupled with the tiredness I just feel like I'm hungover all day!

Miffster I feel the same as you, feeling really really fat at the moment, can't understand as everyone else I know seems to not have put on any weight till 2nd trimester! It's just not fair!!! If it makes you feel better, I'm also eating man sized portions but split into 2 as eating too much makes me nauseous (not much doesn't)

JodieO I'm trying to do lots of walking since my energy levels just do not allow me to go to the gym anymore. Even so climbing hills just leave me breathless, when they never used to affect me at all, it's just so unfair!!!

I got my scan appointment and it's 2 weeks from tomorrow ...feeling nervous now

Welcome reshape and MrsS

Wholelottalove · 03/05/2010 21:16

Hello to more new joiners! Yay!

Hope everyone has had a good BH weekend. I'm fine, werthers originals seem to be helping with sickness if I scoff them constantly
Got some lemon and ginger tea but only managed half a cup so not sure if it works or not.

Back to work tomorrow, sadly.

JodieO - sorry you're worried. Could you give your EPU a bell in the morning just to put your mind at rest?

miffster - your boss sounds like a bit of a nightmare. I think this stage is the hardest cos people don't really cut you any slack, and don't realise how tiring early pg is. And everyone is different, why would she assume you are going to gain weight in same pattern as someone else, FFS?! Sorry, that sort of comment really irritates me.

moomaa · 03/05/2010 21:34

mmmm Wholelottalove, maybe I should try the werthers originals, not had any of those for ages. I seem to be craving citrus fruit (have just made a lovely lemon and lime cake and doubled all the citrus quantities, waiting for it to cool so I can tuck in) but I am drinking nowhere near as much coffee as normal. I think our bodies are clever and know what they need.

Miffster - I will get fat (again) during this pregnancy, I did the last two times. I stop weighing myself when about to overtake DH's weight(!) so symphathy from me. I will have to hope bfing works out really well and the baby drinks it all from me afterwards!

JodieO - If it helps I have days with full on symptons and days with few (which is unlike my previous pregnancies).

cher31 · 03/05/2010 21:59

Hope everyone has had a good bank hols and managed to get in a bit of rest. Back to work tomorrow and not looking forward to tierdness and trying to hold my bloated tummy in. Good luck to everyone going back to work. Not long now until May half term.

DuelingFanjo · 03/05/2010 22:14

rosietoestoo I don't know about the underwire thing but my friend insists I shouldn't wear them. I still am for now but have bought some very unflattering sports bra type things for later.

chloesbaby - I haven't had my booking in appointment yet so not much idea what happens but am a first time mum without a clue too. At the moment I am playing it all by ear.

Hi to MrsSnaplegs

No one has said anything to me about my age yet, Miffster, but I just feel uber-aware that I am the big 40 and worrying a bit at being the oldest mum on the block.

I went to town today and bought some size 14 and 16 tops just so I have something to cover my big veiny boobs. So far I am using a hair boble looped through the button hole of my trousers and then round the button for a bit of extra give, specially in the evenings as I see more bloated then.

I have broken out in spots and am hating it as I don't really suffer usually.

JodieO hope you are ok?
