Hello everyone and welcome kiwi5

RaceyLacey rofl at you giving orders to Dp, have you had a homebirth already then or are you planning one this time round?
I know what you mean about the age gaps, DD will be 20 when this one is 10.
DS was born three days before DD started school, it was a shock to both of our systems!

OWO I was due to start a degree in Early Years Education followed by PGCE in September, this is the second time I have applied and then pulled out due to pg.
I am at the chickens although I think if we had some DS would never eat chicken again, I think he is heading towards being veggie at 5!

JodieO are you having your scan today, fingers crossed for you.

I might look for some maternity trousers for work today my jeans are really uncomfortable.
I decided to walk back from the midwife yesterday, it was lots further than I thought, I was knackered in the evening, fell asleep reading to DS.
Had to run back from dropping them off at school with a mouthful of sick this morning, might give the magic Fentimans a try though I imagine it is synful on SW.

LittleSnoo · 28/04/2010 12:04

...someone was asking about supplements. I'm taking pregnacare plus, which is a multi vitamin and mineral and a fish oil tablet. DH and I took the conception supplements from the same company and concieved the first month so I'm sticking with the same brand.

WhatWillSantaBring · 28/04/2010 12:29

JodieO Not that you should feel obliged to take tablets of course, but if you ever get prescribed pills you feel you can't swallow, try putting the pill in a spoonful of icecream or yoghurt. Its a tip that my mum used on me when I was ten and it worked a charm (and that was with enormous and disgusting pills of the sort that would start disolving on your tongue before you even start swallowing.

Glad to hear that the bloating is just that - I was getting scared that I'm starting to show as I couldn't do up my suit trousers this morning - had to revert to my suit skirt which is very tight across the tummy! Eek. Luckily I don't need to wear a suit that often but its good to know things will calm down.

Trying to work out how to tell my sis that I'm pg when she's just had a miscarriage. There's no nice way to do it really, is there? I don't want to seem insensitive by telling her while she's struggling to come to terms with things but equally I don't want her to find out later down the line that I hid things from her. Its hard because I know I've got to tell her something that is going to cause her pain, no matter how much she insists that she'll be happy for me.

Also dreading telling colleagues at work, especially the one who reckoned that all pg women should be sacked and that he was fed up with covering for them. I know my rights and have no concerns on that front, but its fun to know that some of my colleagues are going to be, shall we say, less than enthusiastic when they find out!

Hi everyone, hope all is good today.

I am 7 + 5 and my symptoms seem to have really subsided this week. Hope I am just worrying for nothing xx

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 12:57

I'm going to try not to tell my work until after the annual review / bonus round in July. Actually, come to think of it, must go work out when I have to tell them.

I've been doing 30 sit ups in the morning and 30 in the evening in hopes of that slowing the inevitable growth straight forward. It probably a waste of time...

Pity you can't get that bigot you work with to put his words in writing. I get tired of covering for the men who leave to: pick up their kids, play squash, take a long lunch, go to the pub... The list goes on. People are either dedicated workers or they are not. Having children is not the cause.

TheChangeSpiral · 28/04/2010 13:00

Oh emma that's rubbish! I hope the gloom passes soon. At least the job market seems to be picking up now, so hopefully DP will find more work again really soon.

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 13:01

I read in my pregnancy book last night that syptoms have little to do with the health of the pregnancy. Some people get symptoms, some don't. It just means people are different.

The only symptom I have had so far is being a bit tired and sore boobs (which are now less sore than they were). Oh, and the lack of my monthly friend and of course the big vertical line on the test.

Don't worry. You are probaby fine.

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 13:12

And speaking of people who lack commitment to work, I have made a stats thread in attempt to reduce my own productivity.

Hope everyone finds it useful!

Due Dec. 2010 stats thread

notso · 28/04/2010 13:20

Emma missed your post, how did it go?
Can't get my head round this new fangled Extra Easy, I was always a faithful Green girl.

Sorry to hear about your DH hope something comes up soon.

angelsw12 · 28/04/2010 13:22

Persnickety Yeh my boobs were extremely sore from the word go but seems to be a bit less sore over the past couple days. And other symptoms of extreme tireness and nausea seem to have gone as well. Maybe they will be back with a vegence in a day or 2!!
Thanks though, I know I shouldnt worry but I guess I am a bit of a worrier at the best of times

PJen · 28/04/2010 13:56

bought maternity bras for size 36 D (I was usually 32/C or 34/B). Bring it on! DH is happy but was asking me last night "So what do we think I will be by month 9? 38 DD or 38 H?????????"

Angelgirl79 · 28/04/2010 15:01

love the stats thread persnickety! I am the most unproductive I have ever been - google is my new best friend as of course is MN. I have to make a concious effort to do some work when my mind in constanly on babies and pregnancy lol

QueenofDreams · 28/04/2010 15:16

hello everyone. saw doctor today. they don't adjust for a longer cycle so they say I am 6 weeks and due 23 december. I really don't agree.
Still not feeling any symptoms as such, boobs are normal, no unusual queasiness, no cravings, no aversions. I actually don't feel pregnant at all. Keep considering doing another test just to be sure.

RaceyLacey · 28/04/2010 15:19

Have added my 'extra bits' onto the stats thread persnickety. I love a good stats thread .

notso - this will be my 1st home birth, really wish ds2 had been at home. Afterwards every mw I saw said 'next will be at home then'. So hopefully the attitude of the mw's now is still the same.

JodieO - hope things went well at the scan.

It's my weighing & measuring day today, never done this before so Wednesdays are so exciting! Ooh I live a sheltered life!

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 15:24

I have been pram shopping on the ipod where no one can see my screen.

PJen · 28/04/2010 15:40

persnickety I am actually in an all day face-to-face meeting and holding my laptop on my knees and reading MN and from time to time provide insightful comments to the meeting. Hope no one is wondering why I am typing like a maniac... I also had to leave the room once to try to throw up (tmi) but only nausea... urghhhh... can't concentrate

Wholelottalove · 28/04/2010 18:02

Hello everyone, just catching up an all the posts, hope everyone is ok.

I've had a bit of a rough 24 hours, I started getting some very sharp stomach pains last night and after about three hours called NHS direct who advised me to go to A&E. They kept me in overnight and scanned me today, luckily everything is in the right place, littlebean is in there mesuring right for dates and I saw a heartbeat. They picked up a bleed in my uterus and some cysts and said it was threatened m/c Also, I have weird shaped uterus and cervix.

Feeling a bit low and tired but relieved. Still getting quite a few pains but nowhere near as bad as last night.

Have had to tell my line manager what is going on as missed some important stuff at work, and won't be in tomorrow.

On posistive side, I saw m/w yesterday who was lovely and very positive about me having a home birth.

Wholelottalove · 28/04/2010 18:15

Meant to add, I was told the weird shape was a heart shaped uterus. Just scared the bejaysus out of myself by googling it and seeing it is associated with premature labour, breech and other complications. It does also explain all the pains I'm getting. I didn't get too much advice on what this means, so I think I will have to wait and see how things look at 12 wk scan and maybe ask midwife for advice.

emmaxmas · 28/04/2010 18:21

wholelottalove- poor you- sounds like you've been through the mill in the last day. Hope you're starting to feel much better. Great that you saw the heartbeat- that must've been exciting! take care of yourself

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 19:52

Sounds awful, wholelottalove. Hope you and baby are okay from now on. This is your second child, isn't it? Did you have any problems with your first pregnancy?

notso · 28/04/2010 19:53

Wholelottalove poor you.

QueenofDreams I didn't have any pg symptoms with DS until about 18 weeks when I went off chocolate.

RaceyLacey I hope they will let me have a homebirth, I have a feeling they will not think it's a good idea due to weight and history of blood clot.

Have had a row with DH just now, I have been really sick today, not feeling up to much and grateful I'm off work.
He asked what I had done today, then went on to complain I was wasting my time off moping about the house. I ended up in tears and he's gone for a run.

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 19:59

I think men have trouble comprehending that we are pregnant before we look like we are pregnant. They don't understand that the flood of hormones, tiredness, sickness, and million other symptoms can really wear you down. And, in many cases, a normal day of hard work at the office would actually be much easier.

I had a big hissy fit at my DH last weekend when he appeared not to have quite grasped the situation. Just seemed to be carrying on with life as he knew it. (that's my take, probably not his) 'tis all better now. But I think it took a bit of locking horns to get us both on the same road.

ebrookm · 28/04/2010 21:28

Hi!

Glad to hear that all are doing well - and receiving reassuring scans. That's good news! Hope you are all doing well and not having too much ms - although mine has been terrible recently. I find tortilla's, coca cola and kidney beans to be helpful. (Sounds disgusting though) and I also bought a sea-band to wear today - so far so good.

In regards to the heart-shaped uterus, a nurse friend of mine told me that the uterus enlarges during pregnancy that it usually does not return the same way afterwards and that it rarely causes complications. Don't know if that helps to hear?

Today a midwife at Queen Charlotte called and said they accepted my self-referral! I'm thrilled as I was not looking forward to delivering at St. Mary's.

persnickety - I skimmed through and saw that you had a positive delivery there! May I ask if you had a hospital birth or birthing centre?

The MW on the phone said the appointment would be May 18th (I will be in 11+4 weeks then) - will this likely include a scan?

My GP already has me returning to his office on the 12th and I have blood tests scheduled for the 19th somewhere entirely different.

Does this sound normal to everyone?

Persnickety · 28/04/2010 21:40

Self referral? How did you do that then? You have scared me now. I've been procrastinating on going to tell GP I'm pregnant. But, I better get a move on if I want to get away from my local hospital (where I absolutely will not go).

DS was born at QC by planned section. So, rather on the medicalised side. But, I have a friend who used the birthing centre and really liked it. One of the things I like about QC is they cater to all types of births so never far to go if you need to alter your plan.

LaylaPink · 28/04/2010 21:50

Hey all, just checking in again, hope all's going well. Quick question - are any of you avoiding certain face/skin products now you're pregnant? I was reading something just now which said you should avoid products containing "parabens", and when I checked pretty much all of my body lotions, moisturiser etc have them as ingredients. But then the article was written by the founder of some natural product company, so could have been exaggerating? What do you think?
