Hello all...move went very well and we have come out the other side still alive!
very glad baby now has a room and we have a much nicer house to welcome visitors to! I am so shattered though!

pigley so glad you said about iron tablets making your stools black or I would have freaked this morning - lovely!! SK I took your advice and been drinking loads of water. So far no constipation, yippee!

rachel totally relate to painful baby squirming! I really love feeling Titch move but sometimes it is SO painful.. keeps getting wedged under my right rib and is especially uncomfortable when driving.

Marquise we have the Close sling- I got it on ebay for around £30. It is v expensive new but when you get it you realise it's v good quality and loads of fabric to it. We haven't learnt to use it yet...must put that on to-do list!

As for baby being downstairs, I was just planning on a bouncy chair (another thing for the list) and moses basket and sling.

to read some of you only have 3 weeks to go...eep! I'm so not ready! Will be lovely when we get our first few babies on the thread though Sure Molly will be the first Forces

Carikube · 29/03/2010 17:40

Littleowls does your hospital have a breastfeeding clinic? Ours does and even if you haven't delivered there you can use their clinic and they have breastpumps for hire so you can try some out before you decide which one you want to go for. Probably worth investigating. My SIL lent me her Avent manual pump and I used that for a while and it worked fine (though I'm sure an electric pump would have been less work!)

littleowls · 29/03/2010 18:43

carikube - I don't know. I assume it doesn't as the MW hasn't said during antenatal classes. I will ask on Wednesday. There are so many to choose from and the electric ones are quite expensive if the one you get doesn't suit.

AnAngelWithin · 29/03/2010 19:39

evening all. Might be able to keep my eyes open long enough to type. I think....

I decided I would get the train and pop into town this morning for an hour, have a gentle plod round. It about killed me!! I was back home by 1, then had to go to midwife for 2. All ok though baby is still liking being breech!! It better turn!!! BP is up a bit. She told me off for coming off my antibiotics, but they were giving me tummy cramps and making me feel sick Was out of the midwived by 2.20, wasn't worth going home so i had a stroll to FILs house but he wasn't there. Got the kids from school and let the mayhem commence!!! DH has just left for college and taken DS1 to ILs for them to take him to judo for me. Tescos shopping coming between 7 and 9 but to be honest I could just curl up in a corner and sleep til the baby comes!!!

SK rant away!!! Bless ya

littleowls agree about asking if you hospital runs a breastfeeding clinic.

memorylapse · 29/03/2010 20:22

just a quick post..not long in from hospital..been a long day as I was there at 9.30 am...doctor came and had a word with me and said my ferritin levels were so low..if I didnt have the iron infusion I would probbaly need a blood transfusion after delivery..my levels were 2.8.normal range is 11-350..Doctor bodged getting the venflon in my hand so Ive got a horrific bruise on one hand now..but she got it in the other..in the end

spent 4 hours on delivery unit being infused..then over to the ward for another 2 hours of observation plus a CTG....apparently it will take about 2 weeks to boost my levels up..just in time for delivery..god it feels strange saying that!..my lunch on delivery suite was a warm cheese sandwich which had been sat in the lunch trolley (which is heated0 and the clingfilm had gone all warm too..however had no choice but to eat it..so god knows how many bugs etc were lurking in it..

will try and catch up on the other posts now

Den26 · 29/03/2010 20:37

Evening all.. My goodness, it has taken me a while trying to catch up!

Memory - glad today went ok despite warm cheese sandwich!

Wibbela - so sorry to hear anout your friends mum

Forces - glad you're ok, so sorry you had a scare like that though

Five - hope your mums ok

at all the tearing stories! Its all getting very close now.

MDM - sola material for your urbo sounds like a good idea.

We got our pram today - yeah!!! Settled for an O baby Zezu, i really like it. Its very similar to the mothercare mychoice but cheaper. Mothercare have been very helpful, they ordered the zezu in for us to see before we decided completely.

Bump feels different this week somehow, can't put my finger on why though. Feels heavier and baby feels more active, some painful kicks/punches fairly low down. My boss said she was watching it move during a meeting today

Re Braxton hicks - sorry could someone describe them again for me?

4 weeks left at work after this one, so glad as have loads of heavy patients at present. First antenatal class this week too.

Hope everyones well and those who have been poorly are feeling better.

pamelat · 29/03/2010 20:40

*Littleowls" glad you are ok now.

A 34 weeks tomorrow and in denial about having a baby so soon so being in a labour suite would freak me out!

been away for a long weekend for my FIL's 60th birthday. DD spent 2 nights and 2 days with us and 1 day and 1 night with my parents. I managed to walk 7 miles, up a hill!! I went along with no real intention of taking part but felt that should make the most of a child free day. There were lots of get out points too, at mile 3, 5 etc. The walk was 9 but I made 7 as started to get aches in lower back and felt it would be silly to continue.

slings, I have baby bjorn too and found it really good with Dd. She was never in it for so long as to cause any hip problems, in my inexpert opinion of course

to the other person with piles (sorry cant remember names or re find post), I sympathise. Mine are terrible today, only ever had them pregnant, not nice

re weight gain, have gone from 9 to 11 stone. Am 5ft 4.

brightredballoon · 29/03/2010 21:06

Ooh weight gain, I have put on 2 stone but with another 4 wks to go I am not too put out about it. After my first child I had about 10lbs to lose but I never toned up or shaped up before getting pregnant with no 2, after he was born I had 2 stone to lose and I did lose it and toned up so I felt far happier with my shape, so this time if I have 1-1.5 stone to lose I will be ok, I will give myself time and then crack at it.

I have been trying to sort more of the house/cupboards out - I can't quite put my finger on when my house suddenly became so disorganised. Everything used to have a place but recently we have things being stored in totally ridiculous places and no order to anything.
I am looking for a cerise roman blind for DD's bedroom, if anyone has seen one online please let me know.

Sorry to hear of those with piles, I got them really bad after DD and ended up having to have them surgically removed

ML hope you start to feel better day by day, you must be so sick of the hospital by now.

Angel hope your little one moves round, have you read the spinning babies website? lots of good tips on there for helping to turn the baby

Den your pram sounds lovely

Another vote from me for the medula swing electric breastpump. I found it really effective and was able to express quite quickly with it. Like SK i decanted the milk into a milk freezer bag and you can actually defrost the milk by holding it under running cold water then gradually increase the temp. That method was handy when I was mixing lots of bags of stored milk ( I liked to freeze in 2, 4 and 6 ounce quantities so limit the waste of the milk!)

Hmm sticky toffee pudding is ready now, that wont help my weight gain!!

TomlinTowers · 29/03/2010 21:16

Hi All

Glad to report uneventful trip to MW today -34 weeks and all well. BP normal, LO head down and spine on the right but not engaged so plenty of time to get spine on the left. TBH, I had just woken up having fallen asleep at my mums lying on my right hand side, so that probably didn't help! Iron levels are low so I've got to eat lots of red meat and dark chocolate - that will be a hard task (!!)

Weight gain - I have no idea what I have put on, stopped weighing myself - I figure that your body tells you what you need to grow the baby. I have tried to keep swimming, and as long as I am back in pre-pg clothes by Xmas that will do for me!

I had an episiotomy with DS1 and had no choice as he was a low forceps delivery. I had an epidural but it had worn off slightly by the time I was delivering, because I could feel when to push iyswim. I don't even remember any pain during the stitches - just a sharp pin prick type sensation which I think was the needle, and then nothing. Didn't have any pain on healing or anything. Was bit worried that it might change all my bits, but DH says it looks and feels no different to him (sorry tmi!). TBH, I don't think you get much choice -if they need to get the baby out, they'll cut you.

I found my old birth plan in my bag which is now finally down from the loft. It made me laugh - it was so different to what actually happened! My plan this time is going to read - "Do what you need to do to deliver the baby safely, and make sure I get an epidural in time"!

Whoever was asking about pumps - I had a Medula electric pump. DS1 had to go to special care for a week after birth, so I was expressing to keep my milk up and so it could be given to him. Then when we went home, I was expressing to try and keep my milk increasing. It is a bit of weird sensation, I did feel a little like a cow being milked, but it did work for a time. The machines come with their own attachments for collecting the milk, you don't put it straight into the bottles. Then you can get freezer bags for freezing the milk, if you are stockpiling.

I would also second getting the baby used to bottle even if you are intending to fully BF. It is an absolute godsend if DH/Mum/whoever can put some of your expressed milk in a bottle and give the baby a feed so you can get some sleep. We developed a system whereby I would feed DS1 at about 7.30 - 8.30, put him down for sleep at 9pm and then go to bad. DH would the lift DS1 at 11.00 - 11.30 pm and given DS1 a feed from the bottle with my milk without DS1 properly waking up. He would then go through to 3 - 4am, before I had to get up again to feed. This way, I was getting 6 hours solid sleep which was such a relief. I think we started this when DS1 was about 6 weeks old, and when my milk dried up we switched to using formula. We will be starting the system earlier this time round although hopefully with my milk and not formula, although we will see.

Slings - DH loved the bjorn for DS1 but I could never get it on by myself - I am not very practical! Borrowed a carrier this time round so can do things with DS1 and still have LO near me, we will see how I get on with it!

Sorry to all those not feeling well. ML - your hospital food sounds like mine. I remember having cheese pasta the first day on the ward, and then cheese omelette the second day, and I swear to God it was the same meal just reheated - it looked exactly the same. That was when DH started bringing me in meals from home wrapped in foil, just so I could get some veg/salad! Hopefully won't be in long enough this time to learn the total extent of the latest hospital menu!

Two days left at work - files all went last Thursday, so two days to catch up on my filing, sort out my desk and let everyone know that I am going. Hurrah!! Have already planned meeting up with friend for lunch on Thursday with the kids to prove to myself that that is really it for the next 57 weeks!

Gosh - sorry for mammoth post!

memorylapse · 29/03/2010 21:59

Angel..I wouldnt worry yet about LO being breech..theres still plenty of time..DS1as breech until about 35 weeks..

I think this baby is waiting to be born..she is engaged and usually parked over on the right(as you look at me)..Ive been sleeping with the dream genie pillow which claims to help with correct positioning of baby for birth..cincidental I suspect..although who knows..

another forum I post on..a pregnant mum is telling all late tri mums that they should still feel vigorous kicks each day, movements such as body rolls etc are not enough..whilst I know that babies can still give you a hefty kick up until they are born..they cannot move in the same way at this stage because there simply isnt room...she is freaking all the other mums out

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 29/03/2010 22:10

Evening ladies!

34 weeks today. I remember being at my first few yoga classes when I was about 15-20 weeks, and thinking that all the ladies who were more than 30 weeks were nearly there! Now I feel like I still have quite a way to go!
I'm just having a late dinner after my personal training session, and feeling nice and tired. I think I'll sleep well tonight. Does anyone know how long it's ok to keep exercising? I presume as long as I don't overdo it I can carry on for a few more weeks yet, I'm convinced it has helped prevent me having any back pain.

So much to read today! Is it because everyone is starting their maternity leave so has more time to post?

Littleowls your hospital visit sounds like a nightmare. It's good that you had a good sleep back in your own bed last night. I hope your BP stabilises now you've finished work. ML - am keeping fingers crossed that you start to feel the benefit from your infusion soon, and that your poor bruised hand heals quickly. Warm cheese sandwich sounded good for a moment, until I realised that you didn't mean a nice toasted panini!

Carikube - hope the bug clears up soon.

Hollyoaks and Tomlin am going to start thinking about writing my birth plan soon, MW said she'll want to see it at my 36wk appointment. LuckyC - I agree that you probably can't do much to influence how your birth goes, as so much depends on the position of the baby etc. So, my birth plan will have an 'ideal world' scenario at the beginning and then pretty much say "but do what you need to get the baby out safe and well". So far, I think I want to try to stay in the home-from-home bit of the hospital so I don't have to go on the ward afterwards and DH can stay with me. That will mean just surviving on gas and air, and i'd like to use the birthing pool if it's available, and be able to move around so not be too restricted with too many monitoring bits and pieces. And I'd like DH to tell me the sex of the baby when it finally comes out!

My NCT teacher is French and told us that in France it's normal to go to hospital as soon as you have your first contraction, get an epidural immediately and then sit there and wait until the baby's coming, then have an automatic episiotomy and assisted delivery! Also apparently hardly anyone breastfeeds there, and they monitor your weight really closely during pregnancy and put you on a diet if you're gaining too much ! Not sure how much of that is true though.

SK - love the story of your 'missing' purse. So glad you found it at home and it hadn't been stolen!

Rachel - Dsis lives in High Wycombe, which I'm pretty sure is near you. Like you and SK, I have been feeling the baby in uncomfortable positions all day today. It seems to have a hard bit wedged right up under my left ribs, which I"m hoping is its bottom and not its head! Have got the Dr for my 34wk appointment on Wednesday, so I guess I'll find out then. It was head-down at the 30 week appointment.

Pigley - your weekend sounds wonderful, very envious of you!

Cupcake - so glad the move went well. I hope you get to relax a bit now and enjoy the new surroundings before the LO arrives.

Den - great news about deciding on your pushchair, always such a relief to get something major ticked off the 'to buy' list!

Pamelat - am very impressed with your long walk! I was feeling pleased with myself for walking 1 mile a day from the station to my office, but 7 miles up a hill puts me to shame!

This has turned into a ridiculously long post. Sorry! Time for a cup of camomile tea and a chocolate biscuit I think!

littleowls · 30/03/2010 09:03

Morning All!

eek and ouch on the piles! I haven't had them before (touching wood) so I feel very fearful of them. Fear of the unknown I suppose, but they do sound horrendous.

brb - sticky toffee pudding, mmmm. it's making me want some now!

ml - glad your hospital treatment went well. I sympathise on the food! Everything I had tasted the same chicken korma tasted like cheese pasta. Went I got home on sunday I just wanted something that actually tasted of something.

tomlin - good appointment. I didn't know that los spine has to be on the left, why is this?

angel - I'm tired hearing your story hope you managed to get a good sleep.

den - good news on pram.

pamelat - Very impressed with your 7 mile walk!

MDM - at the French method of delivering babies. Especially the diet. It all sounds a bit too easy doesn't it, sitting waiting for the baby to come?

birth plan - My hospital doesn't give epidurals unless you have to have a CS. They also don't have a pool, they should have one by the end of May! If i wanted a pool I'd have to go to the smaller hospital 25 miles away. Then you have to be super normal to give birth there so that's me out! . My options are limited to gas and air and some other pain relief injections dimorphene and another one. I would like to have lo straight away and for DH to tell me whether its a girl or a boy, that's if he hasn't fainted!!

My mum is coming to see me today. She'll probably end up having a little clean!

Carikube · 30/03/2010 09:45

Morning all! Things are looking up round here as I have just had the first night in ages where I didn't have to get up for one reason or another so I'm hoping this means that the bugs are finally on the way out.

MDM that sounds about right with what I've heard of the French method - I knew that for them an epidural is pretty much standard (some French friends had a baby a couple of months after I had DD). I've always said that I wanted to be pg in France so that I could eat blue cheese and pate and drink red wine but I think I prefer the UK method of giving birth - I'd hate to be in hospital from the first contraction as you'd be there for ages!

As for hospital food, I had one meal when I had DD and it was truly terrible. I then transferred back to the MLU and there it was all home cooked, small scale stuff and lovely (and DH was allowed to have meals there with me). Then when I got home I just scoffed blue cheese until I couldn't take any more

Last OBEM tonight; I've really enjoyed this series so it's a shame there won't be any more. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't end up there as that will mean this labour not going well....

LuckyC · 30/03/2010 11:06

gils snigger at hiding ironing pile. We have friends coming to stay this weekend and God knows how I am going to get house looking fit for humanity. Currently looks like Hamleys exploded in my front room (girls threw baby shower for me at the weekend). (Last weekend actually which is even worse.)

cupcake congratulations on the move!

memory I am completely freaked by how soon your baby is coming! Re baby moves - I am feeling the occasional hard kick but mainly squirming and little nudges. It would have completely freaked me out to read the lady on your other forum.

littleowls jeez, no epidural without CS? Sounds harsh. Though I would also HATE to be in hospital for ages and ages a la the French.

OBEM - have decided can't stand to watch any more as is freaking me out so much. Only saw 2. Is enough.

AnAngelWithin · 30/03/2010 11:34

morning fellow chatterboxes! Hope you are all well today. I am waiting in for repair man to come and fix my tumbler. Sigh. Only bought the flippin thing 6 months ago

Carikube, glad things are getting better for you!

Littleowls, send your mum over here when shes done Hope you have a nice day with her.

MDM, no its because we are gradually becoming less mobile haha.

ML thanks. Hope that other lady stops freaking other people out!!

Tomlin, lol at finding your old birth plan. Funny how things change eh?!

BRB thanks i will have a look at that website.

Totally exhauseted today after a hectic day yesterday. I can't even do washing til my tumblers fixed! I have done as much as I can for now and hung it on the airers. Really need to tidy the house though, it's a right mess. Kids finish for easter on thursday so i daresay all my work will get undone anyway! Oh well, at least I will know i tried....if i can find the motivation from somewhere...yawn...think its in the bottom of a cup of tea. I better go check

Hollyoaks · 30/03/2010 11:45

Morning all

Cupcake - congrats on the move, glad it went well and your settled for baby coming.

Gils - at the baby shower.

Angel - I hate it when the washer breaks down, we don't have a tumbler so at that. Not sure how we'll manage with two dc to wash for.

ML - my work colleague who had her ds a few weeks ago had a low placenta which was pushing him upwards and squashing his legs. His feet were slightly bent over when he was born, though its now corrected itself, but it meant she hardly felt any movement in the last tri. I'm not surprised she's scaring people, though I'm still getting little feet sticking out all over the place at the moment.

Not much to update here, at mw tomorrow for my weekly checkover so have a short day today and tomorrow, miss two lessons on Thursday as kids are on a trip and then two weeks holidays start Friday. Can't wait for the break, but I'm considering re-trying dd with the potty training. She's 2.2yrs and I'm not sure how well she's handling (or understanding the new baby situation) so not sure whether its too much for her or it could all be undone when the baby arrives. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

memorylapse · 30/03/2010 11:53

Luckyc...you are freaked out by how soon my baby is coming?? not as freaked out as me!!! eekkk!
I too, do not get many kicks now..its mainly squirming, rolling, pushing, stretching etc..plus hiccups..it stands to reason if you are curled up in a ball in a very confined space..there simply isnt room to kick out. it feels sometimes as though she is really uncomfortable and is desperately try to get comfy.

Im 35 weeks today..Im being induced no later than 3 weeks time..scary stuff..I havent even bought a mattress for the moses basket yet...got the new born baby clothes out and put them in to wash with fairy non bio..DH surprised me by having the moses basket out in the bedroom when I got back from hospital..everytime I woke up in the night..I looked at it and tried to imagine a newborn in there...I still wont beleive it until she is in my arms

memorylapse · 30/03/2010 13:27

p.s..have uploaded a pic of my 35 week bump to the facebook page..am quite chuffed as the top I have on is a pre pregnancy one!

itshappenedagain · 30/03/2010 14:30

hello all!

so much to catch up on, here i go, sorry if i miss anyone!
mL- agree hospital food is rubbish, luckly, i have an allergy so i have to have a meal specially prepared, so get to choose! also have you joined mothercares baby group, get money off and so could put them towards mattress. also fab picture on facebook.

luckyC- congrats on passing your driving test, im very envious! i too have reduced kicks, but baby does get the hicups every evening so is fun to watch.

Forces glad your ok after your scare, and your midwife must be good.

cupcake congrats on the move, you must be so releived that all is sorted and that you have a chance to get settled before LO arrives.

angel- i would be extremely peaved if my dryer broke after on 6 months, and i know how you must feel with washing though, i hate backlog.

hollyoaks- i know how you feel about the tidying, i either do loads or want to do it and never get the motivation. plus my Ds is only in nursery for 3 hours a day so usually do most of it then...not so good in the holidays thought!

littleowls- mum would always find something to clean even if your flatmates were kim and aggy! do you think it genetic will we too be doing the same in the future?

gils- love the thought of hiding the ironing pile...although usually do mine whilst watching OBEM or shameless, its putting it away that gets to me...have no idea why!

pigley- glad that you had lovely time, i used to go with friends once every 6 months, until Ds came along...havent been able to leave him overnight yet...PFB syndrome!

pamelat- apparently the more mobile you are the easier the labour...you should (PARDON THE PUN) walk it.

carikube- hope you are feeling much better and that no-one else brings the bug back!

MDM we are due the same day! but other than that you can carry on until you go into labour, i exercised with Ds twice a day at least, until i had a blee and was told to stop...banned fom the gym, i continued to swim after but only when i stopped exercising did i begin to show. not so good this time as only run around after Ds to keep me fit! i too have started to do birthing plan, and also organise who will come and stay with Ds whilst im in albour, do school run etc and who will come with me to hospital if mum is nt here!

well as for me...i a lot calmer than i was when i last posted. havent spoken to LOs dad since he went abck and probably wont again...which is strange in a way. pram arrived yesterday and car seat this morning. just waiting aby nest and am off to town tomorrow to buy moses basket stand.
im starting to get more excited about the arrival of this one, mixed i with the odd day of complete and utter panic. i have a tour of the hospital tomorrow and my aunt is coming with me, that is one of the only times i hate being alone when im confronted with lots of couples.
other than that, can i ask ( look away if your skweemish) does anyone else have an extremely swollen vulva? it only happened last night and i didnt get this with DS.
anyway im off, need to put o more washing and doa quick hoover before hometime!
take care all

Hello all, it's taken me ages to read the posts hence no response til now! I don't know where the time goes...

Forces sorry to hear about your scarey hospital visit. Hope you can hang on in there til 37 weeks. Good luck!

Itshappened really sad about little ones dad wanting no contact. But sounds like you have the right attitude. And yay on new pram!

Good to hear everyones getting organised. I just sorted my garden at the weekend so that once baba comes will need only to do minimum in order to have nice flowery environment to sit in. Got ruthless with some snails last night which I spotted as I was admiring handiwork thru kitchen window.

V impressed with all these low weight gains. I have put on 2 stone - but thought I was doing well after putting on 4 (!) last time. Have given up chocolate for lent so am v much looking forward to Easter. Tho hope that doesn't see me put on remaing 2 stone! Argh!

Anyway, I had better get on- am supposed to b lying down whilst DD sleeps but reflux is too annoying. Sleeping terribly at mo - I think others mentioned lots of disturbing kicking from baba - that's what i'm getting. All around my belly button which makes me feel a bit sick.

Sorry for so few personal posts - have forgotten all the reactions I had. Take care all x

also meant to say itshappened I did have itchiness 'down there' a couple of weeks ago. I read it might be to do with hormone and ph changes so I had a bath with bicarbonate of soda and it sorted it out after couple of days. Good luck!

Have updated the list - I think I found the most recent.
Have been to have a presentation scan today after months of the baby being breech she has finally moved - I actually cried with joy. Such a relief.

The scan confirmed that I'm measuring 33+1 so guess I am going to have to begrudgingly accept that my due date is the 17th rather than the 8th, after all. Was kind of hoping it would all be over sooner rather than later!

Anyway - baby is for the time being head down and I don't have much 'spare' fluid so there is hopefully little chance of her moving the wrong way round again.

She couldn't confirm the sex though - 4th scan and still no-one is sure... I'm sure 'she'll' pop out a 'he'!!

Sorry for selfish post...
Happy Easter to all our lovely May ladies! xxx

Just checking in before bed to keep up with any new news!

itshappened - glad you are calmer and that you finally have your pram etc. I don't know if its genetic as my mum has always been really tidy and oraginsed and I am just not. I am hoping to become a domestic goddess once lo arrives

angel - I will, she'll be round soon. You still sound very tired though. Hope you found a little bit of motivation but not too much. Take it easy.

movements - I've been worried about movements the whole time. Now I see lots of squirms but I have never seen any feet poking out. I also never feel movements during the night.

Does anyone know whether the doctors and MW at the hospital would know the sex of the baby? Is it hidden in your hospital notes somewhere? The other day the MW said to keep me on the monitor for a little bit longer because SHE was a little sleepy and SHE hadn't moved much!! She said SHE many times and I didn't want to ask her because I still don't want to know. Is there any chance that the hospital would know this, or is it her way of talking about lo rather than saying IT?

Off to bed to get nice and rested before my trip to the DAU and also for a growth scan. Hopefully it will just be a morning visit and not an overnight stay

Hi All

I think I jinxed myself last night by saying I felt well - had the most horrendous nose bleed at about 10.30pm which went on for nearly an hour, then DS1 awake 11.30 - 1am, then woke up this morning feeling like I have picked up a bug - hot and cold, shivery, blocked up nose. Yuk. Never mind - last day at work tomorrow, got all filing sorted out today. Desk has never been so clean and clear! Almost a shame to go back to work and put any files on it....

Whoever asked about baby being on left hand side - from what I remember from first birth, when baby drops right down into pelvis, the shape of the pelvis is designed to twist the baby through 90 degrees to the right. So, if on left hand side, 90 degrees turn right means that baby's spine ends up facing outside, rather than your spine which is more painful for birth because it catches the nerve endings on your spine on way out. I think. I remember that you are meant to sleep on left hand side if poss. Hopefully if that is wrong someone will correct me!!

No kicks from baby here - I don't think there is room for this LO to stretch out legs in there! Lots of rolls, wobbles, prods etc so not worried about foetal movement at all!

ML - bless your DH for getting the crib ready, 3 weeks seems very soon!

Itshappenedagain - glad you are feeling calmer and got the pram sorted. I hope LO's father knows what he will be missing out on, and that you get the finances sorted out - he still has to support you even if he doesn't want to know your LO, his loss.

Littleowls - I don't think they are allowed to write down sex of baby. The MW probably has girls at home or something so automatically calls all babies "she". I still refer to LO as "he" because I am so used to talking about DS1 even tho scan said LO is a girl!

Hi to everyone else - good luck to those with scans/monitoring coming up.

MarquiseDeMerteuil · 31/03/2010 07:51

Tomlin - I never knew about the baby turning to the right, always wondered why they said the left side was best. I knew it was best for it to be born facing your spine rather than back-to-back, but didn't connect it getting to that position with only turning right! I can add a bit more detail on why being born facing your spine is best though if anyone's interested? The narrowest part of the baby's head (and therefore the bit that's best to lead the way out) is the back of the top of the head (to picture why, imagine trying to pull a tight polo-neck sweater on over the front of your head - much more difficult!). So, on the way out, the baby needs to drop its chin to its chest to present the pointy top of its head first. It can only do this if it's facing your spine, because the tail bone is slightly flexible and gives way a bit as the baby's forehead pushes against it, to allow the baby to drop its chin. If the baby is facing towards you pubic bone (i.e. in a back-to-back position), it can't drop its chin towards its chest because there's no give in the pubic bone, so it comes out with the widest part of its head presented first. Ouch!

I hope that made sense. It did in my head, but might not have translated well to being written down in a hurry while I make my morning cup of tea!

Good news yesterday - had a phone call from the much-maligned Mamas & Papas delivery team to say that my nursery furniture will be arriving tomorrow, and they will send me a text today to say whether it will be a morning or afternoon delivery slot, so I don't even have to wait in all day, hooray!!!

Pamlet- at 7 miles! Dont think I could make one!

Tomlin- My bubba is too head down but on the right. DD was back to back when born. Have nothing to compare to wether its worse or not but i can def say it bloody hurt!
I too will be trying everything to turn baby.

Re moves- This ones movements are really hurting now. I get the odd big kicks but its mostly feet moving around. You see lumps moving from side to side and its really uncomfortable.

DD was 2 weeks overdue so very tight on space in there. At birth they noticed one foot was slightly bent so a pyshio came and taugh me some exercises to straighten it out. Was fine within a few weeks.

Hollyoaks- Not sure on the potty thing. DD is seeming pretty interested in hers at the mo (20mths). Wasnt going to attempt it yet but now im in two minds whether to try it when the baby comes as DH will have 3 weeks off and can concentrate on her. Another part of me things a new baby will be enough up heveal for her and should wait.

ML- LOve the picture

Happened again- I know what you mean about PFB. Its was hard to leave her for the first time overnight. I did blubb everytime I rang home.
Enjoy the hospital tour.

Newmomma- Glad bubba has moved

LittleOwls- Think they just say "he" or "she" as its nicer than It. Hope the growth scan goes ok.

MDM- Finally

Woke and was sick this morning Think its just baby squashing something as i did notice certain postions in bed were making it feel worse. SOOOOO hoping its not DD's bug!
Need to head off to town to get DD's new shoes so it best hold off.
