Welcome to the thread, before the thread, before the final thread where I give birth.

And in case you're needing it here is the Post-natal thread

Happy Mother's Day, all you mothers and mothers to be !

Right, in random order:

Only 5% of babies are born on their 'due date', normal pregnancy is up to 42 weeks, so all you that are over and all is well are quite right to stick to your guns.
I always thought it was a bit when woman demand inductions at 37-38 weeks (when all is well, I mean) just because they are 'fed up' or impatient to meet the baby...

mummyelk, v v impressed with your efforts in the Nooky Corner . Considering that my DH gets performance anxiety when my parents are alseep in the same house as us considering to do the dirty.... I am v v impressed.

hecklephone, good luck! You may yet get a Mother's Day baby! And at the labour play list...

Arcadie, awww, how nice of your friends . Shame you'll have to wait another, oh... 4-6 weeks before you actually get to use all thouse presents

I wonder how ILGB and lou got on??

BusyMissIzzy · 14/03/2010 10:09

Congrats to ang on the birth of Toby, hope you're enjoying lots of snuggles.

LouBudd how are thing's going? I like the idea of a Mother's Day baby though, hope things pic up again for you. And Heckle I started with pains, no show or plug till later, hope it kicks off

Arcadie, FB photos of your shower are lovely, how sweet of your friends to do that. And you look gorgeous too. Not to mention yummy afternoon tea. Mmm, I want a scone with jam and cream now...

Hope everyone else is doing well. My parents have been here this weekend meeting little Izzy. I think I may have to watch that they don't try to sneak her home in one of their bags..

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 10:23

Thanks Pacific. Didn't actually get any presents as rightly so "I don't need any more baby crap" but to have had people buy me expensive high tea in a posh manor hotel was present enough!

Happy Mother's Day to all - off to lead the morning service at church now....

OP posts:
hecklephone · 14/03/2010 10:40

Mmmmm...drroooooling over those cakes arcadie - they look ace.

All the best ith the church service - hee hee, I think you should do something naughty like stand up in the pulpit and tell the congregation your waters have just broken

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 13:37

So tempting. But in the end I just couldn't do it to the old chaps!

Hot chocolate brownies! Pah! I have Jaffa cakes (from the labour bag that never got unpacked).

PacificDogwood · 14/03/2010 16:29

Svelte - ha!
Like so NOT
Big boys are quite taken by the wobble factor of jelly belly though - hours of fun and entertainment at my expense...

Anything happening to anybody here?? Heckle? Anybody not telling?

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 16:56

Shrooms Done as requested on FB and made a discussion board with our real life names and MN names on it. Anything posted on info looks too public.

Am afraid nothing to report. Can hardly walk and feel like I am going to pass out all the time. Been pretty teary all day.
How pathetic. I should be tougher than this as I have done it twice before. Anyone heard from ilgb?

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 18:04

LouBudd Feeling for you. Nothing to reproach yourself for. Pregnancy is hard. Late pregnancy is very hard. Giving birth is NOT EASY!

Arcadie your FB comment about DD thinking a hippo was a monkey made me The other day DH was unwrapping a present for Isobel and announced "Look Izzy, it's a horsie!". I had to point out that it was, in fact, a lion I'm guessing that your DD is a lot younger than 31, so she at least has an excuse

swingsofglory · 14/03/2010 19:21

A slightly belated 'Happy Mother's Day!' to everyone. Hope you all had a good one and that the bumps fronted up with cards as well as the babes!

Had a gorgeous day here, helped by the sunshine. I got breakfast in bed from DD (with a bit of help from DH) and a large box of chocs which have been at least half eaten already. My sister was here most of the day and my mum turned up this afternoon and is here to stay now to help out until DD2 finally arrives. Hurrah! I feel like i can relax a bit which is great.

Anyway, positive thoughts to everyone in labour, awaiting it or having given birth already and I hope somebody's managed to have a mother's day baby as (call me corny) but I think that's rather lovely.

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 19:42

AM out babysitting for my BF and have had quite regular BHs for the last hour or so. No show, a little back pain and BUGGER ALL chance of this being labour. But it's nice to dream. (and to stay away from BFs brand new cream carpet just in case)

BusyMissIzzy DD is 27 months. Her powers of observation are not legendary. Glad it gave you a

Right. Will be on here most of the evening I think so I'd like come chums to chat with. Put down your mother's day chocolates. Step away from your crying newborns and come play.

I like the thought that the BHs (which have now tailed off entirely) could lead to crowning in the 2 hours I've got here. I'd be prepared to do it all on my own at a friends house if it meant a 2 hour labour. Bring it on....

Knock knock knock....

MrsMummyElk, Mrs Pacific, Mrs Hecklephone etc etc can your kids come out to play tooooooo?

and pacific i see your chocolate brownies, i applaud them, and raise you some Rocky Road (inspired by your baking mind)

Arcadie · 14/03/2010 20:44

Hi MummyElk I want Brownies AND Rocky Road.....

Who was it who posted about geting DH to examine cervix. Was it you mummyElk - what would it feel like if I could get him to find it? If it's not an impertinent question!?

OP posts:
MummyElk · 14/03/2010 20:50

Well tbh i'm not completely sure, it was a shot in the dark in the first place (literally?! ) but yes it was me... (you lot must think i'm barking mad)
i thiiink it should be forward facing, and soft, like the inside of your cheek...if it's facing backwards and feels harder, like the end of your nose, then things are not happening quite so much.
but this is all accumulated from random bits of MN threads i've read....and i have been known to get these things wrong...?!!
hang on i'll look it up

MummyElk · 14/03/2010 20:53

sort of interesting i like the polo neck analogy

annamama · 14/03/2010 20:58

Hi big bellies and jelly bellies... No mother's day baby here.

LouBudd - hang in there! Teary might be good = hormones = labour imminent...?

Heckle? Bet you're in labour now!

Pixie - you're doing so well not moaning very much at all! Gotta be very soon now...

We had a mother's day meal in a restaurant, ASK, where mothers eat for free today... So it was very busy. Had to wait 15 mins to even be spoken to by the waitress. We then ordered olives and bread, which hungry DD loves. 20 mins later and no olives. DD started to shout across the whole restaurant "olives, oliiives, OLIIIIVES!". Then they finally arrived. We also waited for ages for the food which wasn't that great, I got a bit mad at DH for giving her chips so she wouldn't eat her pasta, and I was just generally in a grumpy mood. I was hoping though that maybe the stress would set off labour but no such luck.

Hope everyone else had nice or at least ok mother's days!

Question: If you have a sweep, what happens to mucus plug if it hasn't already come out? Does it get poked out by MW's finger?
