Bessie123 · 18/03/2010 16:29

Hello, VAG. You are due 6 days before me.

bananastew · 18/03/2010 18:55

Sorry girls! I'm back! Its her 2nd and THIS April! not 2011 She didn't find out about her 1st untill she was in labour! This time, she put the weight gain down to a riding accident stopping her being so active. She was sent for a scan to investigate pelvic pain and they found cysts, a problem with her kidney & a baby!!!!! she's 38 weeks and baby is in position!!!!! I could forgive once, but twice????? I'm already the size I was at 6 months with ds & feel it move lots!!!

lucyLG from what I understand sleeping on your tummy can't hurt the baby, its well padded. I did with ds. Once your bump grows you'll probably find it too uncomfortable anyway, like sleeping on a ball! They do advise avoiding sleeping on your back after 16 weeks tho. Something to do with baby laying on an artery or something like that.

Reading material, I used a book by caz cooke! Very amusing and real life experience of pregnancy & birth. Someone mentioned the bounty pack! ha ha ha what a joke, I got mine the other day! For "mums to be" a nappy, cd, sudocrem, ariel tab & sachet of ovaltine!!!!!!!!!!! What there is for the mum to be??? I don't wear nappies or have a sore bum! Where's the chocolate? pointless!

Monstermuncher · 18/03/2010 19:35

OMG Bananastew I can't get my head around that! And yes the Bounty pack is hopeless. If it had a real bounty in it (ie the chocolate and coconut variety) it would be a massive improvement IMO

caprica6 · 18/03/2010 19:36

evening ladies!

wow bananastew 38 weeks and she didn't know it?! I wish I was that far on!

had my scan on Friday for the nuchal translucency and everything is fine (just the wait for the blood tests stressing me now...) Due date confirmed as 22nd so I'll add myself to the list now
we have been slowly telling family and friends - everyone very pleased for us, also first grandchild for my folks so they are over the moon.

found out today there are 2 other pregnancies at work and we are all due within 10 days of each other!

comixminx I'm in similar mind re. doula, so not into all that reiki and energy nonsense stuff but would love someone who could see me through the whole process in a knowledgeable and calm way.

for reading - I like the "day by day" pregnancy book, which although has some pretty basic advice (eat vegetables, go for walks) the technical stuff is good, there are pictures and explanations of baby developing every day and lots of medical reading about screening etc

LucyLG · 18/03/2010 20:06

Hey VoilaAnotherGimlet we're due on the same day, it's my first too, this is so exciting! My bessie mate's about 3 weeks behind me (she's got her dating scan a week today) and it's just all so scary amazing errr?!?

Can you imagine being bananastew's sister-in-law?! I guess I'd feel a bit robbed of the whole pregnancy shebang, but it would be nice to be able to choose to skip to 38 weeks! There have already been some times that I would have gladly pressed that button!

Thanks for advice about belly-sleeping habits, I can sleep soundly tonight I reckon! Maybe try side-sleeping again next week...!

MammyG · 18/03/2010 22:13

Hi all
LucyLG - I would say take sleep anyway you can get it!
Voila - Ah the pregnancy rollercoaster! Hold on to your hat because it really is the gift that just keeps on giving!!
Bananastew - TWICE!! I suppose two weeks notice is better than none. Dont think I could cope with the shock!

So headed off to big city today - had mri scan. Will have results next week. Then went and shopped for four hours!! On my own!! Havent dont that in years and needless to say tho I am still smiling the poor ol bank account is groaning! Bought mostly clothes for DCs (typical!) but picked up 3 lovely maternity tops in H&M. Got the bras (thanks to all advice earlier) Then went to look at books - I felt dizzy with all of them saw the one name I remembered from the thread (stoppard) and bought that. Had lovely quiet lunch where no-one had to be reminded to stay in their chairs/not spit their food etc then tea with the girlies! Lovely day!
Now cream bun in one hand, tea in the other new book, stubbornly ignoring mountain of ironing and off to bed with the lot! Perfect end to a nice day!

DrDr · 19/03/2010 09:20

Hi

Would love to join. First pregnancy, due 22nd Sept, and very excited! It's all starting to feel real now that I've started telling everyone (and anyone!).

Lovely to hear everyone else's stories

I'm in Muswell Hill if there are any locals too...

Swordfishtrombones · 19/03/2010 11:12

Wow Bananstew! I know I said I wouldn't mind fastforwarding a month or so, but to fastforward nine would be a bit much! Oh well, as MammyG said, 2 weeks notice is better than none at all (but didn't she feel kicks? I just don't get how people don't realise!).

MammyG - your day sounds lovely, but I'm not sure I could manage 4 hours of shopping. Blimey! It's always the same isn't it, you go shopping to look for your stuff and end up spending ££ on lovely children's clothes! I do that all the time. What tops did you get from H&M? (nosey!) I got a lovely black top with little flowers on it the other day - like a posh t shirt. It's sort of gathered under the bust and looks like it will be great with a big bump.

Welcome DrDr!

Stickhasgrownup · 19/03/2010 12:48

Hello to everyone and welcome to the september thread DrDr!

Just been to Smyths with DD to choose birthday presents for DS. Its my first outing through choice for about 9 weeks! Its so nice to be feeling like I can cope with going out and about again. I was still sick first thing, but I can cope with that if I'm not so bad for the rest of the day!

Bananastew - I can't believe it happened twice! I seem to know I'm preg from the second of conception!

coppertop · 19/03/2010 13:49

Hello to all the new people.

I'd love to be one of those people who only finds out at the last minute that they're pregnant.

I had my dating scan this week and everything is fine so far. My blood test results came back very quickly and with no problems detected. The chance of Downs Syndrom has come back as less than 1 in 10,000. My due date is still the 23rd September.

Hope everyone else is okay.

weirdbird · 19/03/2010 14:26

Hi all

Can I be really cheeky, my daughters school is in a competition to get a raised bed allotment and its all down to votes on this website

www.getschoolsgrowing.co.uk/

All of the other schools involved (bar one which is in the process of being closed) are doing far better than us, but they are all primary schools with both infant & juniors wheras we are just a junior school, so we have half as many parents to vote!

I would really, really appreciate it

Her school is Kingscroft

Thank you

bananastew · 19/03/2010 18:50

I personally think she's missing out on so much tho! The whole feeling the kicks and movements, seeing the exciting scans, planning, the excuse to eat copious amounts of chocolate and being waited on (if you're lucky!)!! But then I just love being pregnant!

I had my 16 week check today. Had my bloods done for screening. We don't get a NT scan here unless you go private! Heard the heartbeat & all seems well.

Then went back to work & had stupidly given myself one of the hardest most physical jobs that involves kneeling bent over & heavy lifting for an hou! I ended up having a "turn" got all hot & had the most awful pains in my side & bump. It took me 30mins to recover. Serves me right for trying to prove a point that I'm pregnant, not poorly!!!

weirdbird · 19/03/2010 20:49

I am the opposite, I tend to be ill for most of my pregnancies, have developed conditions I had never heard of existing, was put on bed rest with each of the previous 2 (am desperately hoping to avoid that 3rd time around!) I fall apart, get aneamic, generally don't feel that great at all, I look at them as something that you have to get through for the baby (reward) at the end.

ooosabeauta · 20/03/2010 12:03

Oh weirdbird I feel just the same. My whole body seems to go into meltdown! Last night I had an upset stomach at 2am for no apparent reason. My mum always said to me at the start of my 1st that 'pregnancy is not an illness, Ooosa!' and then watched me vomit and faint for the following six months. And get horrible varicose veins, which are getting worse this time already . As you can see, I'm still suffering from whingitis, following my moan about it last week. I don't mean to moan - I am very grateful, just a bit of people who bloom in pregnancy! But it's all so such more than worth it by the end .

Have just registered and voted for your school, but think it's going to take a bit more than my vote to swing the result - maybe another 2000 needed!

Thinking about the friend who found out at 8 weeks - I just can not imagine! Am slightly jealous. But also glad to know so that I can cut out all the coffee and other nonos, and replace with Pregnacare and peppermint tea . Just quickly on the subject of Pregnacare - does anyone else who takes it feel like it makes them more sick?

Hope you're all having fab weekends x

Meant 38 weeks obvs!

Love2Dance · 20/03/2010 13:43

Here' a story about babies: DH's colleage's wife is 30 wks (due end May) but last Wednesday got hospitalised for severe pre-eclampsia. she was told she'd have to stay in and be monitored but that they wanted the baby to put on more weight and get to at least 36 weeks before a c-section.

I sent DH to work with card, home-baked banana bread and magazines for wife. But on Thursday the dad got a call at work to say his wife was getting worse and they were going to have to deliver baby. a 1lb 14oz baby boy was delivered and so far he's ok, but early days (I assume he's in SCBU). Put my moans into perspective I must say. I really hope they'll be ok.

Welcome all new girls. DrDr I'm not that close to you but not far along N Circular (Neasden).

Went out with some colleagues last night for a curry. Enjoyed the food but the obligatory boozing bored me silly. I'm going to try to have a little nap as DH, MIL and I off to see Cat on a Hot Tin Roof tonight.

At some point this weekend I MUST get my old mat clothes out the loft and sort through. May need new bras as my boobs are now 32D (huge for me - they were like flat little pancakes/loose Spaniel's ears after breastfeeding before). Ramble ramble...

OP posts:
LucyLG · 20/03/2010 20:06

Oh wow Love2Dance I really fancied Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, how was it?

Oosa I know what you mean, I moved a load of my boss's stuff into a flat for him so he can come on holiday here with his daughters (he lives abroad) and although I had excellent removal men I still ended up doing far too much and have spent most of today in bed with DH (he has no excuse, just wanted a lazy day!)

I'm used to being superwoman at work (bit of a control freak and that's the one area of my life that's 'easy' to control!) and it's really hard to dial it back to normal/low levels.

weirdbird I've voted - good luck!!

Hi all

Am due DC3 on 15th Sept and am just getting over the worst (I hope!) of severe morning sickness. So sympathies to you ladies who just don't bloom, I'm right there with you!

Just wanted to say that I had a doula with DC2 and I would thoroughly recommend it. My doula had nothing to do with alternative therapies, reiki or anything, she was just a lovely supportive presence.

HI

I can´´t seem to keep up with this thread!! I only get to look in every couple of days and so much has always happened. So sorry if some of this seemed to be said and done ages ago...

bananastew at her not knowing she´´s pregnant for sooo long. I´´d also feel robbed of pregnancy though, have to say I love it, the whole getting fat and feeling a little being growing inside. (well maybe wouldn´´t miss the tiredness and backache).

I think Im going to get myself the Ina may Gaskin book this time round, read the Shirley Kitznger last pregnancy and loved it. Also LOL at The Fat Lady´´s Club, a real life account from four women who met at an Ante-natal class.

Its DS1 2nd birthady this week and the PIL coming up, Im scared as they haven´´t asked what we he wants for a present. We´´ve had problems with every christmas and birthday so far, asking them not to get a certain toy and they get it anyway saying its thier grandson and they´´ll buy what they want .

Off to have supper. Have a good monday all.

bananastew · 21/03/2010 19:47

patito I'm pleased I'm not the only one who loves pregnancy! I don't particularly bloom as such, I just love knowing I'm growing a little human inside me!

However, I'm getting slightly concerned this time because I just can't stop eating! Even if I'm full I want more and eat more, and want more, and eat more! I'm going to be huge!!!

LucyLG · 22/03/2010 06:50

What a weekend! I've been having what I sincerely hope is ligament/nerve pain, have not been able to walk, stand upright, cough, change lying/sitting position or wee without shooting stabbing pains all down the left hand side of tummy into my 'bits' for the last couple of days.

Doc v supportive and sending me for scan at EPAU today. I am definitely not a wuss when it comes to pain having lived with PCOS for the last 18 years but paracetomol / codeine ain't touching this bugger!

Wish me luck!

Bessie123 · 22/03/2010 08:25

Good luck Lucy, hope all goes well.

Oosa pregnacare will make you sick if you don't take it with food.

Does anyone know where I can buy a nice maternity bra in 34H? It's such a ridiculously huge size that nobody seems to stock them except John Lewis and they are proper ugly. I was a 32F before I even got pregnant, I am condemned to a life of 'functional' underwear.

Bessie123 · 22/03/2010 08:26

Oops. 13+2

Love2Dance · 22/03/2010 09:36

Bessie123, have you tried Bravissimo (www.bravissimo.com)? They have a few 2soft cup" bras online, but might be worth giving them a ring to see what they do.
