Here we are - pull up a beanbag and help yourselves to mini eggs!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tinywelsh · 18/03/2010 08:43

Welcome Katy86! Do we still have mini eggs left?

Okay I decided not to watch 'one born every minute' because it would just scare me, so my work colleges decide that it's the dicussion of the day and are trying to out-do each other with horror stories

I've been having a lot of vivid dreams about the bean, i'm now almost certain i'm going to see two on my scan (13days and counting)

Elsa123 · 18/03/2010 08:46

Welcome Katy86-course you can!

Well- I've got to 10 weeks today which is 2 days further on than last time! I'm still awaiting the paperwork that the midwife said she'd send me last thursday so I could get a scan booked at some point between 11-13.5 weeks as I can't see the midwife until next Thursday. My DH is hassling me about it because he wants to be there and needs to organise a day away from work. Hopefully I'll get it today, may text the midwife later to see if she's sent it to the right address and stuff. I'm so pleased I got that scan 3 weeks ago as I think I'd be climbing the walls by now.

Katy86 · 18/03/2010 08:53

congratulations elsa!!! are u due around the 14th then?

Hi tinywelsh i have my scan in 14 days! Soooo excited but i bet the times gonna drag lol

x

jennimoo · 18/03/2010 08:54

Elsa - I had my scan at 8 weeks and I'm still desperate for the date for my 'proper' one, so I can plan for it (around work, moving etc!) and so I can tell everyone! I am so fed up of having to act like I feel fine at work!

Hermya321 · 18/03/2010 09:36

Hello all!!! I hope all is well in bump land.

I feel so much better today, damn hormones. I'm still hoping that when I see my boss later today that he'll be in a good mood as well. But hey ho, these things happen.

Katy86 Welcome and congratulations!!!

Elsa123 · 18/03/2010 10:16

Katy86- yes, well worked out! Jennimoo, I know what you mean, but I am reluctant even after the first scan to go round telling people! Where I work, I don't actually have to declare until 15 weeks before the expected due date- and although I will tell my boss, I have no intention of telling all and sundry where I work. They can work it out when I start wearing maternity gear (which is foul btw)!

I've just been looking up maternity leave stuff and I think (its all very confusing) that I am entitled to 26 weeks on full pay, followed by 6 weeks on 90% pay followed by a remaining 7 weeks on the standard rate statutory maternity pay which is the lesser of £105.85 per week or 90% of my weekely earnings, which I think means I get £105.85 per week, then another 13 weeks unpaid leave if I wish- totalling 52 weeks or it can be 55 weeks if I elect to take 3 weeks unpaid parental leave at any point. On top of that I still get my full leave entitlement of 38 days starting on 1 April each year. I can get time off for all medical appointments and parenting classes etc and also, during maternity leave can return for up to 10 days as keeping in touch days where I get full pay on that day. I will check it out properly- as it does seem a little vague. A lot of people just seem to take 6 months, but if I took a year (and penny pinched) there's a chance that a job I want will come around at just the right time.

Effilump · 18/03/2010 10:23

Good Morning all, Hope everyone is well, or as well as can be expected, those ladies feeling sick, I feel really bad this time with sickness and tiredness myself, so I know what your going through!
Had my booking visit with the midwife yesterday, had all the blood tests taken, just waiting for my official scan now on the 7th April, cant wait! It seems ages away though, opted for the nuchal scan, so im a bit worried about that at the same time.

Nymphadora · 18/03/2010 10:30

I am planning on a year Mat leave. Using A/L to delay the start & KIT days to return gradually.

ILoveGregoryHouse · 18/03/2010 10:39

Hi Elsa, unless things have changed since I last went on mat pay, you get 6 weeks at 90% and then 33 weeks at smp rate £123 or 90% of your weekly wage whichever is lower.

Your entitlement to leave is sepearte to entitlement to pay. Your leave entitlement is up to one year, with the first six months protecting your right to return to the same job.

Your employer may have better standards though, but the statutory is the minimum for leave and pay.

Hermya321 · 18/03/2010 11:30

I'm planning on taking it until my statutory runs out. I want to breast feed (hopefully will pull it off) and want to be able to go back to work at a point where LO is weaned and down to a couple of feeds a day.

This is my vague plan anyway.

Elsa123 · 18/03/2010 11:56

My employer does not conform to the legal requirement (and is allowed not to) so comes up with its own regulations which I attempted to outline above, which closely mimic the rules anyway. I am entitled to return to the same job no matter how short or long my mat leave is up to 55 weeks, but if I say someone else can go into it, they just find me another job of same grade and pay- but there is a specific one I want that I think shoudl come up around the back end of next year, so it could work out, but I have to go through (well, my reports do) a mini selection process for it. Effilump- I'm please for you that you have your scan date! I can guarantee mine will come through on a day I wanted to be on leave and nowhere near round here!

ILoveGregoryHouse · 18/03/2010 12:23

Ooh, well you're getting a good deal there, then, much better than the min requirement. Fingers crossed your job comes up. 6 months full pay makes a huge difference.

loueytbg · 18/03/2010 13:30

Welcome and congratulations to thirdtimer and katy86 - add yourselves to the due date list.

Hermya I'm glad you're feeling better today. Hormones have a lot to answer for and so does your boss by the sound of it.

Jennimoo you still haven't got a scan date?? That's ridiculous. If they don't get a move on then you may miss the time period for a nuchal scan (has to be done before 13+6). Can you find out the number of the antenatal ultrasound dept at the hospital and phone them direct?

Elsa I'm very jealous of your maternity pay - mine is not bad but nothing as good as that. Hope you manage to get the job you want when you go back to work.

Wateraddict - wow that's quite a change in EDD. So you are the first official 12-weeker I think . Glad you had a good scan.

ILoveGregoryHouse that must have been a bit scary but at least you got to see the baby and you know why you were bleeding. Hopefully you won't get any more.

Nymph have the pains eased off??

Silver I was unsure about which hospital to go to as well (in the middle of three) so I posted a message on the local netmums messageboards in each area to see what feedback I could get from people who had recently given birth there. It really helped me make a decision. I think there is also a website called birthchoices where you can look up the stats on each hospital.

Samantha - don't feel guilty about coming home from work sick. You have to look after yourself and sometimes just trying to catch up on a few hours sleep can make a massive difference. If its any consolation, my ms peaked at 9 weeks and started to get better after that.

Good to see we have at least 2 "volunteers" for twins (hairymelon and tinywelsh

Madly busy at work this week but am surfing Mumsnet working from home today. Actually, I've spent half the morning going through lists of childminders to try and find a decent one that might have space to take DCs. Fingers crossed that I might have found one - she's going to call back later to confirm that she will have space and then I can go and see her. She has a really good Ofsted report. I've finally given up on my normal jeans and am in maternity jeans. Nuchal scan on Monday and assuming all is well, I will tell my boss at work and then the world will know.

Elsa123 · 18/03/2010 13:31

Yeah- they make up for it by being awful in other areas !

There's an article in todays telegraph that says pregnancy brain is true, after that study in Jan that said it was rubbish. In tests, it showed that pregnant and post partum mothers were 30% less good at spatial memory tests- which would explain why I forgot to get a parking ticket the other day despite going right up to the pay and display machine and looking at the prices and times, before turning back round and marching back to my car! Only to turn, in front of witnesses, back to the machine (a fair rewalk back across the carpark) to get the ticket. And I coudln't pretend I'd forgotten something as I had everything I needed with me .

LadyThompson · 18/03/2010 13:43

Hello all, haven't been on for aeons!

Twins??? Wowzers.

I have my 12 week scan on Tuesday when I will be 12 weeks and 1 day, and they will do the bloods and so on at the same time. Am a bit nervous as got 1 in 96 as my risk last time and had to have CVS (DD was fine as it turned out).

How much weight have people put on? I have managed not to put any on yet, mainly because I am still so porky from my DD (she is 16 months ) Hope you are all keeping well.

Actually this baby will undoubtedly be born in Sept as I am having a cs which they will do between 38 and 39 wks.

FrenchLimeBlossom · 18/03/2010 13:46

Hello ladies! Am adding myself to the list - cannot believe I only just spotted this thread! I think there are a few familiar faces from the TTC threads and I am very glad to see you here too....

12 week scan is in 12 days, so at the moment DH and I have everything crossed. Have been suffering a bit with morning sickness since week 6 but finally visited GP and have found Buccastem a revelation - I can eat! I can drink water! I can digest sustenance! I can pass some nutrients to baby! So if anyone else has been spending more time in the loo than at their desk (hope not!), i suggest a quick trip to the docs!

Louey - I thought I was being irrational pg lady getting annoyed at not having scan date. I don't know which hospital does the scans, so can't easily call through to check! I am having the nucheal test though, so timing is important!

I spoke to midwife Tuesday late afternoon and she said she'd chase up the date. Shall I call again later this afternoon, or wait til tomorrow/ Monday do you think?

Elsa123 · 18/03/2010 14:10

call this afternoon- what have you got to lose?!

loueytbg · 18/03/2010 14:14

Jennimoo TBH I would call again today, then it gives her/the hospital tomorrow ot get it sorted. Otherwise nothing will get done until next week.

Hi LadyT I've put on 4-5 lbs but I think a lot of that has gone on my boobs . Must try and stop eating crap. I'm prob having c-section too so I'm guessing I will probably be the end of September rather than October. Still hanging around here though.

Elsa I do that all the time. Glad I'm not the only one.

Welcome to FrenchLime and glad you're feeling better. MS is wretched.

DillyDora · 18/03/2010 14:34

Hi all

Hermya so glad you feel better! Hurray!

Hi to all and glad to hear everyone is mostly well - especially those aided by buccastem Keep those scans coming and always hassle if you don't have a date, no one seems to mind much, you can always check w your GP where they've referred you to and follow it up from there.

Off for early scan tomorrow (9 weeks today) as I had some brown yukky discharge so let's hope all is well... I'll let you know!

xx

shieldbug · 18/03/2010 15:29

hello again all!

I've been too tired or busy (oops nearly typed busty there by accident, although that would also be appropriate!) to keep up with the chat here. When I finally got round to catching up, I was so pleased to hear all the good news about scans and people having blood tests and so on.

I've just had a seriously hormonal moment of my own. I called the hospital to find out why I hadn't heard anything from the midwife and was told that actually I should have booked in at the gps by now and have already had by bloods. So WHY was I told a. to wait until 10 weeks by the gp and b. to wait until I heard via the post by the hospital when I had my 6 weeks scan? . I was so upset to find out I could have been sorted by now that I burst into tears. Luckily I was hiding in the basement at uni(don't ask) at the time, so nobody could see or hear me.
So now I have to travel to the gp because I don't want to cry on the phone to them.

Surely they must see hundreds if not thousands of pregnant women at the gp and hospital. You'd think they would have a clear system in place by now to avoid people like me falling through the gaps. I haven't got a clue what I am doing, but why do I feel that the same applies to them?

ok rant over now. Deep breath. Feel a bit better now. Thanks for listening guys.

shieldbug · 18/03/2010 15:31

sorry dilly cross post there. hope everything goes well with your scan. fingers crossed for you.

Nymphadora · 18/03/2010 16:19

frenchlimeblossom I think i remember you from the ttc buses? Anyway Hi & Welcome

someone asked about my pains? Still coming & aching unless I am half lying in a chair/ bed . Driving is hard work! Not helped by continuously losing the indicators & my townadding roadworks left, right and centre!

Hermya321 · 18/03/2010 18:19

I got into work today to find a really chatty email off of my boss. I think he might be having sympathy hormones . I also got grabbed by one my colleages who turned me round on the spot, prodded me and then said with a sad voice 'wheres your bump?' I said I haven't got one yet. They then looked a bit forelorn and wondered off. I suspect they will be the main bump poker when it makes itself known.

Nymph If I live where you think I live then I would have to say that no I haven't. In fact I don't think I've seen any in any shops. Maybe they think pregnant women don't exist round these parts . I'm sorry you're still in pain, i'm also sorry that those pita road works are causing you grief. Oh do you know when your scan will be?
