Ponymum top marks for being the first to start batch cooking! I've been peering anxiously into the freezer (currently dominated by a post barbeque sausage surplus) and assessing capacity. Has anyone got any good (preferably sausage related) freezer recipes?

Filly if you've got a bonus day off, don't plan stuff, just spend it in bed, woman! Pleased to hear the discharge is easily explained: it's happening to me, too, and it's very unnerving, even though I know it's normal for me.

Mampam I hope you're asleep - have you tried listening the leaders' debate? That's quite a good cure for insomnia!

Not much new here...madame is still breech I think, probably because my bump is basically a large rather limp balloon hanging off my front, which must make it difficult for her to manoeuvre over onto her head. I booked a short hop flight for our August holiday in the Scillies today, which led to an amusing exchange with the lady at the airline office, who wanted to know what name the infant would be travelling under...umm, she's not here yet, let alone named !

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/04/2010 22:44

lol lol about flight gizmo!
Can't believe that margot is still managing to masquerade as 35 .

madamefreckle · 30/04/2010 00:36

Hope you get a good sleep tonight Mampam - I had to have a 24 hour ecg as I was having ectopic beats (where it feels like you miss a beat then you get a sort of thud in your chest) and palpitations. It came up with nothing and despite the fact that I still get it sometimes, noone seems very concerned about it and no further investigations have been carried out. This does concern me slightly but I'm sure they'd do something if they were worried!

I've got my last day at work tomorrow, which is making everything seem v. imminent. Official due date is 1st, but on the list I'm still down as 4th...probably won't be on time anyway. I ate too much tonight (albeit 4 hours ago) and don't feel I can lie down in bed. . It's after 12.30 on a school night...grrrrrr. I'm definitely going to have to start eating less so that my diminished digestive space can deal with it.

All of this talk of pedicures got me thinking about something else - muff hair - I normally perform neat topiary (never been into the idea of waxing and not overly keen on the full bushy bush affair) but I can't get down there at the moment and fear accidentally trimming more than just hair! Ouch. Think I might have to ask dp to do the honours - although he hasn't been anywhere near that 'neck of the woods' (!) for aeons!! In labour it'll probably be the last thing on my mind but I like to feel that I'd be neatly presented!

Barbeasty · 30/04/2010 06:29

I'm 31 now, rather than 30.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, LaTrucha, I hope he gets some time with the baby when it arrives.

I saw the midwife this week, and was told that the baby is fully engaged- cue look of absolute panic from DH as he imagines that we're off to the hospital NOW Luckily this was closely followed by being told that just because it's engaged early, I won't necessarily be giving birth early. I think he's almost over the shock..... But, she is head down with spine to the side so hopefully she won't be moving.

Hope everyone has a great bank holiday. We're off to see my SIL who has been told that because she's expecting number 6, not only is a homebirth too risky, but she can't even go to the MLU. I find that a bit odd- if I need transferring it's a 15 mile trip in an ambulance to the next city. In Oxford it's onto a trolley and down a few floors.

mampam · 30/04/2010 08:29

gizmo Oooooh yes I was fast asleep by the time of your post last night and in fact I had the best nights sleep that I can remember having for months now. I woke up just after 6am this morning and realised I'd only been to the loo twice in the night, I've normally gone 3 times by 2.30am!!
I feel better today than I have done in months!
Did watch about 30 seconds of the leaders debate but David Cameron nearly bored me to tears, switched off before Gordon Brown finished off the job!!

Madamef yes that's it, when your heart stops and comes back with a thud, plus it does other silly fluttery things too. Just a horrid feeling really, wondering if it's going to start thumping again. GP can't be too worried as I couldn't get an appointment until next Thursday for the ECG so they obviously don't think I'm going to drop dead between now and then.

Barbeasty at your DH's panic. Does he know that the head usually engages earlier with your 1st baby than say it would do with mine (3rd)??? Men are so funny sometimes. My DH is desperate to get my bag packed!! I hate to think how excited he'll be once we get the date of CS next week.

Madamef On the subject of muff hair I may get DH to trim it with the hair clippers (I'll wash them afterwards) but my motto is 'what I can't see won't hurt me!'.

Right I'm off to gee up the kids and do the school run.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/04/2010 08:29

How odd barbeasty - one of my friends had her 8th at home no problem (was filmed and shown many times on homebirth diaries, although I've not actually seen it).

meggymegmegs · 30/04/2010 08:41

Morning everyone,

madamefreckle on the muff front, I made the big mistake of having a full wax last week. Days of bruising, dry skin and pimples followed . I knew it was supposed to hurt more when pg but didn't expect that! Will be getting dh to manage any regrowth because I'm definitely not doing that again!

'Working from home' today which is basically going to involve checking emails from iPhone and staying in bed as still bunged up.

Good weekend planned as I won a free meal for 2 at a fancy restaurant in Manchester so looking forward to that .

georgee · 30/04/2010 08:47

Hi mampam and madamefreckle - I'm another one with ectopic heartbeat. Doctors do seem completely unconcerned about this in my experience too. In fact my mum has also had it since she was in her thirties and is still going strong! I've drawn the conclusion that it feels more worrying than it is ...

Ha ha, muff hair ... last time I could attend to that was a month ago and I have no intention of going down there blind now with anything remotely sharp. Everyone in the labour suite is just going to have to make allowances on the day!

Working from home today, hurrah. Still in bathrobe (thank goodness we don't have video conferencing in our organisation yet).

Have lovely weekends everyone.

greensnail · 30/04/2010 09:51

On muff hair - I managed a tidy up myself before going in for induction with DD. I'm glad I did, not because I was at all bothered when I was in labour, but I think having things fairly neat and tidy down there makes things a bit more pleasant when dealing with the aftermath

barbeasty is your SIL actually in Oxford? It does seem strange, all my friends living in Oxford have had midwives who are very pro home birth. If she does end up in delivery suite though it shouldn't be too bad. Its a good unit with a birthing pool and lots of other facilities for active birth. My main issue with it is that only 2 rooms have windows though, I'm hoping i'll be lucky enough to get one again as I hate not having any natural light in a room.

mampam brilliant news that you had such a good sleep last night

OP posts:
georgee · 30/04/2010 10:25

Oooh, a couple more things ... thanks so much mampam for posting the link to Midori's thread. What a positive girl! Does put things in perspective.

And can anyone tell me if Fairy Non-Bio is OK to wash the baby's stuff in or do I need something a bit more baby-focused (or is that all a big con?)?

Take your point about muff hair greensnail ... ouch. Might venture down there later with a mirror and a pair of nail scissors ...

Had a run of three friends/relatives giving birth in the last couple of weeks. All has been very well - but it's left me feeling 'OMG it's me next!'. The last one was a girl at work that was sort of 'before me in the queue' - due five weeks before me, we've been sort of keeping each other company. As long as she was still waiting for hers to arrive I felt relatively safe, but now she's had hers (12 days early, quick and relatively pain-free to boot!!) I feel much more exposed!

meggymegmegs · 30/04/2010 10:52

georgee Fairy non-bio should be fine for washing the baby's stuff. Any non-bio is good as far as I know...

georgee · 30/04/2010 11:01

Thanks meggy! I'm such a newbie to all this!

MrsDmamee · 30/04/2010 12:27

yay for those who got a great nights sleep its lovely when you get at least 4 hours(for me)uninterupted sleep.

ponymum re SPD mine isnt as bad as yours as im still able to walk but only short 15 mins ones im bascially housebound, but coping well with the pain probably too well according to my DH.
i hope delivery of your LO provides you (and all the rest of us SPD sufferers) with instance relief or at the least feeling slightly less achy.

i half packed my hospital bag yesterday with the help from my very excited ds2.
He has baby on the brain, everything is about the baby so he helped fold/roll really all the little clothes into my case.

playftseforme · 30/04/2010 13:45

Hi all

Love the muff hair debate, haven't seen that area for a long time, am going to attempt some contortion next week to assess how bad things have got

I'm 36 now too.....

Today's my last day at work - hurrah!!! My boss's PA has been helping me sort out my filing, and then DH and I are going out for a meal and to the theatre, on the assumption that this might be the last time for a long while....

Ponymum · 30/04/2010 14:11

gizmo I was actually wondering whether I could batch cook sausages and mash and freeze that. I think it would need lots of gravy for the sausages to freeze OK but that suits me so I might give it go.

Laughing at your airline booking problem. I have beeen trying to find prices for flights to see DH's parents after the baby is born. The websites ask for a date of birth for each passenger so I entered a best guess for the baby but it came back as 'invalid date'! We are going to have to book these tickets before the baby arrives so I think I'm going to have to get on the phone to someone.

MrsD Yes I am hoping for a swift recovery too. My physio is managing me very closely and she is insistent on following what she says is the best latest research for SPD, which advocates 48 hours of total rest after the birth, then back on your feet and full steam ahead. In my head I'm thinking catheter for the first 24 hours, wheelchair to the loo for the next 24, then back home on the third day. I'm starting to feel nervous / excited.

Muff hair is a nightmare! Last time I somehow got myself prepped for a c-section the day before, but now for the life of me I can't think how I did it!

greensnail · 30/04/2010 14:21

Ooh I hadn't thought of freezing mash. That's a great idea. Will definitely make extra and freeze it next time I'm mashing! I'm sure sausage and mash will freeze fine, have frozen excess cooked sausages before, wasn't a problem at all.

OP posts:
herewegrow · 30/04/2010 14:44

joining in on the muff hair debate. Managed to shave my legs and defuzz a bit earlier this week, wasn't a great job but a vast improvement. Also managed to cut my toenails. Only approaching 32 weeks and it was a struggle. Not sure if I will manage any of these tasks very well between now and the end of pregnancy.

Still another 4 weeks at work for me then I can start on the batch cooking for freezing.

Barbeasty · 30/04/2010 15:33

Mampam I only discovered this week that DH thought that babies were born able to sit up. When I, patiently, explained this wasn't the case he said "but they can crawl, can't they" I think he's in for quite a shock!

Greensnail Yes, she's in Oxford itself, and the last 2 or 3 have been successful homebirths. I think she must either have got a rogue unsupportive midwife, or one who can't communicate a genuine health concern. I'll try to get more out of her tomorrow, as we haven't really talked about it. I do know that she has started saying that she'll just do it at home alone and doesn't even see the point in attending the midwife appointments throughout the pregnancy now. I have to say that I was pretty surprised, as the midwife taking my first antenatal class in Stroud was really disappointed that none of the 5 women there were planning a home birth.

greensnail · 30/04/2010 15:35

Ok, have just finished packing my hospital bag and am wondering how on earth I ended up with so much stuff last time. Have I missed something really obvious?
Will post my list in case anyone finds it useful and so you can point out anything I've missed.

For me
Nighties x3
knickers x7
maternity pads - 1 pack
breast pads
nursing bra
towel
book
snacks
drinks
money
phone and charger
wash things
hairbrush
hairbands
water spray
lansinoh
notes
tablets and creams
wet bag for dirty stuff
tens machine

For baby
Babygrow x3
vest x3
scratch mitts
cardigan
nappies
cotton wool

For DH to remember
Camera and spare batteries
change for vending machines and car park

Am really annoyed that I can't find my tube of lansinoh anywhere. AIBU to suspect DH might have nicked it to use as lip balm??

OP posts:
meggymegmegs · 30/04/2010 15:35

I did an Immac a couple of weeks back by lying a towel on the bed and sitting on that and leaning back onto the headboard, then propping a handheld mirror in a good position so I could see my nethers. It wasn't a pretty sight and my crab walk to the bathroom to remove the Immac caused much hilarity, but it got the job done .

meggymegmegs · 30/04/2010 15:39

greensnail What about:

slippers/flip flops
straws for drinks
ear plugs
make up (or is that just me... )

greensnail · 30/04/2010 15:41

Barbeasty, your DH really is in for a shock isn't he . That's really odd about your SIL. Sounds like she needs to request a different midwife.

OP posts:
greensnail · 30/04/2010 15:44

oh yes, i'll stick in a couple of straws, thanks. I hate ear plugs, rarely wear make up and am living in flip flops at the moment so will have them on my feet anyway!

OP posts:
Ponymum · 30/04/2010 15:50

barbeasty !

greensnail
Clothes to wear home
Hand wipes (for when you can't get up to wash your hands)
Compact mirror
Lip balm
Tissues
