Sorry for gratuitous mention of mini eggs, DB.... But v. Impressed by your DD's pudding preferences. My DS would've eaten the chocolate and the cheese and left the apple untouched.

Sariska · 06/03/2010 22:36

Pixie. Your DH sounds a bit like mine in the culinary department. I am seriously thinking that as well as Midwifery 101 for the expectant father, we should have Cooking for the Pregnant and Post-Partum DP.

Arcadie · 06/03/2010 23:15

Want a baby sooon please. I know I'm only 37 weeks but it hurrrrrrrrrrrrts when he kicks.

blonde36er · 07/03/2010 07:54

Good morning

Wonder who will be about today...

Been wide awake since 5am so have taken to watching catch-up telly on the sofa. Nothing further to report (bah!), have bawled my eyes out this morning (double bah, snotty nose and sore eyes now!) tired and hormonal, and feel MUCH better than I did first thing - and how can anyone feel blue after watching the sweep video?! Fab!!

DB I think the obsession is definitely shared, have definitely been giving the cod liver oil some thought...although I imagine taking it and just ending up with the trots and still no baby Send the chocolate cake my way...

Pixie I'd love a bell to summon my DH, at the moment it's all arse about face in this house, he lies about and I run round after him! No ballgown, don't even possess anything close to one anymore...gave them to the charity shop in a fit of nesting!

PacificDogwood · 07/03/2010 08:09

Good morning, ladies!

Today is birthday party day here, so clearly I am in great danger of going into labour but thankfully nothing is happening
Also, DS2's actual birthday is on Wednesday and I'd rather he could keep his own day and not have to share it with DS4. Obviously that makes it anohter 'dangerous' day...

Anyway, hope you are all well and not too fed up. Arcadie, get back in line, now, 37 weeks, pah !

Thankfully DH has a repertoire of meals he can cook, however I may get fed up with Chilli con Carne....

I was just thinking in bed this morning, I know I will feel a little bit bereft when the baby is born because I will miss my bump. And this is the last bump I'll ever have. At least at this point the baby is mine, ALL MINE, mwha-ha-ha .

blonde36er · 07/03/2010 08:57

Ooh I love a good birthday party Can we all come? Sounds like it's just what we need to start us off!

Apart from Arcadie - get back in line indeed

My DH has his own repertoire of meals also, however they all involve a piece of grilled or fried meat or fish, over-boiled spuds and either Bigga peas or asparagus. Anything else he cooks apparently requires me to 'go and check it's done' despite the fact he managed to cook for himself perfectly well before we got together! He won't cut raw meat either, and as such he's undecided as to whether or not he'll be able to face cutting the cord when fat baby is born!

I too will miss my bump. I won't miss having to cart it around with me everywhere though, and it might be easier to lie down comfortably!

Arcadie · 07/03/2010 09:02

Sorry for stepping out of line. Trust me I will not be queue jumping. Indeed half of the april thread will have gone past me.

blonde36er · 07/03/2010 09:30

You'll still pop before me, don't you worry about that

Fed up now, wish DH would wake up so that I could start pottering around the house, if I move too much I'll wake him up, then I'll have to deal with his as well as my own all day!

So does anyone have any plans for the day other than birthday partying and standing (im)patiently in line to have a baby?

MandaHugNKiss · 07/03/2010 09:46

Well, woke up at 2am with a 'strong' bh that actually hurt. Then laid there until 5am with regular tightenings that didn't hurt in the least but obviously kept me awake no lesst because today is my due date!

Finally, echausted, fell back to sleep a little after five (read from 3.30 until then) but awoke again at 7.30 which just isn't 'me'. I'm someone who 'needs' my sleep and if I'm on my own in the bed (I was last night) I sleep long and well (usually at least ten hours if an alarm doesn't wake me).

Can't help wondering if I'm starting... but wouldn't be surprised at all if not!

Oh, and its DD's 15th birthday today. She had a friend around to sleep last night (they were up til late, natch) and they're still sleeping. I'm up as expecting DP with his best friend to come and sort my bedroom out ready for baby so, yes, we've procrastinated until the last but it seems still left enough tome

Ooh. I ought to think about finishing packing my hospital bag that I started in the week.

I know I should be gearing up to cook the eggs and bacon I bought in preparation for the 'workers' sandwiches this morning but I'm all achey and tireeeeeeed. Well, they're not here yet, so coffee for me it is. Perhaps that'll perk me up.

MandaHugNKiss · 07/03/2010 09:48

Crikey. Seems I stopped at typos-r-us on the way to posting. Ignore. Ignore lots!

ilovegreenbeans · 07/03/2010 10:39

Morning all!

Well, I stripped the sheets off the bed to wash them as figured that would be pretty inconvenient if labour did kick off! Have a birthday party to go to and an open house, so at least will be busy if nothing happens. Today is my scan due date, although I've been trying to stick to the 9th as my own due date by conception... either way- come on baby!!

Pacific, DD's birthdya is the 17th and I will probably die if baby hasn't arrived my then Have fun at the party today!

As for queue jumpers- get back in line! SIL who is due beginning of April emailed me to tell me that her baby is engaged already... NOT what I want to hear right now!

Can anyone share experiences of how their second or subsequent babies weren't engaged at term and they didn't go terribly overdue!?

BusyMissIzzy · 07/03/2010 12:49

Afternoon everyone I, umm, seem to be in early labour.. contractions since 7am, currently every 5mins or so, but a bit irregular. Baby is OP so back hurts quite a bit. Mw said to go about my day as normal but I sort of just want to stay in bed! Hoping it doesn't just fizzle out anyway. Hope everyone's doing well, sorry can't concentrate to namecheck

annamama · 07/03/2010 14:38

Good luck Busy, sounds exciting! Don't lie on your back in bed will you... you don't want to give birth to an OP baby if you can help it. Any update?

ILGB - no personal experience but MW and books say that subsequent babies engage very late due to slack stomach muscles... or something. [slack stomach muscles - us?!! how dare they]

Pixie - at bell to call DH, brilliant! Hope you get stronger soon.

Pacific - I bet our method of sweep wasn't in yours or your DH's medical training?

Sariska - I would stick with your own due date instead of the scan one! Unless you're very scatterbrained and don't know your LMP and cycle, which I doubt... (My scan date is 3 days earlier than calculated date but I'm sticking with mine.)

DD loves her Pingu videos and especially when Pingu plays with his new baby sister. I'm a bit worried that she will think this baby will be just as fun as the Pingu baby, and she will end up being quite disappointed for a while... I'm trying to explain that the baby will only cry, drink milk, sleep and wee & poo. Doesn't sound too exciting does it, I think she would rather have a Pingu baby.

OP posts:
ilovegreenbeans · 07/03/2010 15:08

Slack stomach muscles!? Me?! that'll definitely be why then...

blonde36er · 07/03/2010 15:16

Good luck Busy!

swingsofglory · 07/03/2010 15:30

Oooooooooooh does that mean I've got good stomach muscles cos my baby is engaged then? does it? does it?

That makes me feel better about the total uncomfortableness of it all, along with the paranoia that I should be going into labour RIGHT NOW and I'm not cos there's something wrong with me (had to be induced last time round). Baby has been engaged for at least two weeks and is still gradually descending by the feel of things. Due date not till next week obviously... but all the same, shouldn't I be in labour already?

Busy - hope things are going well. I'm quite jealous.

Pixie - i have suggested that I should have a bell like yours to DH. Not keen sadly.

Anna - my DD is obsessed with Charlie and Lola. I hope to god that she doesn't think her little sister is going to be like Lola...

Pacific and Manda - good luck with all the birthday celebrations. i would have thought they should be guaranteed to bring on labour. Do keep us informed, I'm sure i can find a birthday to celebrate if necessary.

Hello to anyone else still left here - it feels like loads of people have had babies already, or is that just cos we're still on this side of the fence?

Henrietta · 07/03/2010 16:43

DB P&T are good only thing to bear in mind is if you have 2 kids in it then you have no basket left...also I think one mum said they're quite close togther so not so useful when no2 gets a bit bigger - depends on age gap. Also don't forget you can always sell on Ebay to get money back on double if you don't use it for long enough to get money's worth out of it.

inductions thankfully never been there, but the more research I do on RADMID & talking to other mums the more I'm inclined to think that...the more medical intervention at the start the more needed at the end of the labour so unless mum or baby in distress id let nature take its course, but everyones circumstances are diff and not everyone is as afraid scared of unknown - of ending up with a c/section as I am...

pixie still here i see..lol at frozen dinner

arcadie looks like us 37wkers need to stick tog then slides back into line behind Arcadie, only bump still protuding

pacific for a few seconds each day I think that too - this last PGY so I OUGHT to enjoy it...but I can't breeeeeeeeeeeeeeath at all now.

mandy hoping for you - but will your other DD like sharing Bday or is that past now?

Ilovegreenbeans no2 didn't engage till last minute and no3 was about 3/5 engaged 1 week before labour day think with 2nd+ labours some don't engage until your actually in labour app. heres hoping cos mine isn't engaged at all yet.

BusyMissIzzy run up and down stairs 10 times that should buck up contractions wags finger...otherwise might just fizzle [gets off high horse emoticon] hoping things get going for you.

annamama stomach muscles - what r those next thing you'll be expecting me to have a Pelvis floor

siblings&babies am sure my youngest thinks that a bump IS a baby (final product)...have shown them the free DVDs that come with pack of babies crawling around etc, to put more of a reality check than the cartoon babies.

no bells here but DH spoils me by cooking every W/e mind you I have to do the accounts in exchange which I hate...

Henrietta · 07/03/2010 16:45

anybody else thinking we won't be posting as much once we've had our babies and are on the post-natal thread... guess we'll be dealing with in-laws etc then and of course snuggling babies... dreamily goes off thinking about when baby actually arrives and can snuggle snuggle...

ecstaticmumofeightplusfour · 07/03/2010 18:22

mumof8, congratulations on the safe arrival of your little girl !!
And I am so glad that you found the whole delivery experience overall a good one.
Lovely names and great to hear the explanation for each of them.
I am amazed and impressed how quickly you got home - enjoy her and the rest of your family. And at you already thinking about No9!!

MummyElk · 07/03/2010 20:56

ilgb yes my friend's baby wasn't engaged the day before she was due, mw checked and everything, baby born the next day totally fine and dandy, he slipped into full engagedness that morning by the sounds of it!
congrats mumof8 fantastic news, lovely names and glad it was a positive experience too.
pixie i can't see how we're going to get through all 50 of us and not have any doubles on the names front?!! i'm already adding and subtracting names from thread list to our list?!!
busy keep us posted.....exciting!
oh and henrietta YES i think that exactly about the postnatal thread. Not helped by me just visiting a friend with her new baby (gorgeous), and Boy Are They Knackered...it's like looking down a time tunnel at me in a month's time...learning to bf all over again, waking at all times of the night.... it's not all easy is it.......
we're going to see The Jane on Tuesday, so hopefully make the decision then. thank you for all your comments, most useful.
this post is taking me too long to do. will publish before i xpost with something interesting/important!! hope all well
