Just a quickie,

Sending positive labour vibes to all those having signs of action or who are overdue... having gone two weeks over with DD1, I feel your pain and frustration, I really do...

DD1 was in nursery today and I had a massive energy spurt and sorted loads of stuff out - which has made me feel heaps better.

Having acupuncture session on wednesday as a pre-emptive "I WILL NOT go overdue this time" strike. 2 members of my NCT refresher have recently gone to him for breech presentations, and both baies flipped round that night... Better finally dig out that hospital bag, then eh?

Have posted my birth plan as a separate thread for comments/suggestions here birth plan would appreciate anything you lovely ladies may be able to add/suggest, as many of you know a bit more of my history than others on the site...

MummyElk, my DD will be 2years 4months when DD2 arrived, and we still opted for a double (P&T Vibe, second hand from Ebay) as figured that our nursery run is still a bit too far for her to walk after a long day (25 minutes), she won't stay on a buggy board, often prefers to go in the opposite direction from where I want to go, usually at a run, and it'll be hard to chase after her with a baby in a pram/sling, plus she still often has a nap of 1-2 hours after lunch, and I'd like the option of her having that on the move.

Plus the Pliko we had for DD1 is pretty much dead after 2 an a bit years of constant use, and isn't much good off-road, whereas the P&T with it's lovely big bouncy wheels is quite a lovely single option in itself...

So there's my reasoning in a nutshell. I think it very much depends on your own specific circumstances TBH.

Right, ironing - yes, there's more still to do...

Love to everyone!!

Good luck to Abs, sounds v promising ...

No advice to give re double pram as I will simply dig out mouldy double nipper which I loved when I used it A Lot with DSs1 and 2.

You just chill, girl, nought wrong with that .

Anna, re trampoline, never mind Tena lady, I'd require swimnappies to go on one of them these days ...

Pixie, I had been trying to figure out how far on you were but my preg head was not up to looking up list, so thanks for info . Over 38 weeks, that's just so brilliant - you'll have nice mature non-scary babies whenever they decide to make an appearance - loverly!!

MummyElk, sweet of the day has been Basset's Allsorts today - no chocolate for me today, no siree

Had really late night last night (don't ask, DH at work til well after midnight so lots of opportunity to watch totally crap TV , regretted it this morning), so night-night all!

hecklephone · 05/03/2010 21:58

Rinders I see your bag of Maltesers and raise you a bag of Smarties mini-bites (which were my absolute downfall during/after my last PG - I blame them for me going up a whole dress size!)

Am sitting here wondering if I'll see any action during the last 2 hours of my due date...unlikely. Hope abs is getting on with contracting?! I have been doing some serious nesting this evening though - I think the nursery is finally as ready as it needs to be, and my hospital bag is also done and dusted. I'm also feeling the urge to read Ina May again...kind of like revision I suppose!

I'm really looking forward to a long lie and lazy morning tomorrow (DD is with her Gran) - I'll let you know tomorrow if that's another activity to add to Pacific's list of things to bring on labour

Oh pleeeeeaaaassseee stop talking about chocolate!! I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!

Am on diabetic diet for last month at consultants insistence and boarderline sugar levels, so I've not even sniffed any chocolate, pudding, icecream, basically anything resembling something sweet for over a month amd I'n craving, craving, craving chocolate in SUCH a big way.

Trying to replace cravings with satsumas, but it's just ain't doing it. Especially when I discover DHs contraband chocolate bar wrappers, when he's sneakily had a chunky kitkat in hiding.

BAH!!

p.s. I'm just jealous/obsessed. Carry on. As you were etc.

annamama · 05/03/2010 22:08

I only came on again to tell Pixie that my BP is only slightly higher than yours at 90/60 but maybe I'm more used to it than you, maybe yours has fallen more in PG...? Just take it easy and eat LOTS and often (I know you said you eat properly, hope that doesn't mean only healthy low calorie food...). So you found the sweep video, haha, glad someone other than us found it funny...

Pacific - I must warn you, swim nappies aren't actually very good at holding in wee, I guess they are only designed to hold in poo really. I know from experience, ie DD weeing on my through swim nappy. So if you go on the trampoline just use a normal nappy! As for me, I was fine until I decided to jump down on my knees, that's when I leaked a drop or 10.

Rinders - I can't believe your DH ignored that, hope you told him off properly!

Pixie, how did you find mawbroon, well done on the stalking detective skills front !

Anna, yes, I take your point, thankfully faecal incontinence has not been an issue so far, on trampolines or off... Pampers Baby-Dry it is, then .

Darn, what am I doing here? I am going to bed!

annamama · 05/03/2010 22:16

Me too... hooray for Mawbroon!

Rindercella · 05/03/2010 22:25

Yaaaayyyyyy for Mawbroon. I had just popped back in to this thread to ask if anyone had heard from her and there Pizie's post was! Bloody brillant news!

Mmmm, Smartie mini-bites sound rather scrummy, think I may have to go and hunt some of those down tomorrow (sorry DB). Anna, just checked out your sweep video - tis very funny! about DH. When I went into proper labour with DD (at about 5am), I screamed at told him it had started. He rolled over and went back to sleep. 2 hours later we arrived at the hospital and I was 9 cm dilated! He was brilliant once we were there though

Arcadie · 06/03/2010 08:59

DB Have replied to your birth plan in irritating detail. And have heard very good things about acupuncture bringing on labour so expect to see your announcement soon!!!

Pacific ROFL at the swim nappy / real nappy trampoline debate.

Pixie Thanks so much for tracking down Mawbroon.

Off to iron and then catch bus into York station to give DCs some bus & train dribbling time.

Arcadie · 06/03/2010 09:00

Forgot to add... will of course be doing all of the above in full evening dress!

snowflakesarahandco · 06/03/2010 11:09

hey all- just dropping in to see how your all doing-

sending labour vibes to you all xxxx

hope everyone is well xxx

we are very much enjoying our little boy and he has settled in very well indeed,

Sorry Pixie Just got back from town. An obscene amount of coffee, yumyum and sausage roll for the kids later and I'm safely ensconced back at home. Not sure how entertaining I'll be as I now have a lovely house guest who was one of my bridesmaids 8 years ago.

When I met her at the station I was wearing one of DH's biggest jackets with no bump showing. Upon arriving back home and removing said jacket, Anne's mouth fell open. Don't think she's ever seen ANYONE as pregnant as me and certainly hasn't ever seen me with that size of bump...

annamama LOVE the sweep youtube clip. Good work!

Henrietta · 06/03/2010 15:40

Hi all
wave to everyone with congrats to MAWBROON.
Double buggys-tried to do without when no2 born but DD1 kept falling asleep on the front and so got a Mothercare double (same as Graco double) really good fairly easy to push with big wheels but a little heavy to lift. IMO anything is heavy when you've got 2 kids in - 2 push not to lift . Anyhow used it non-stop - get loads in shopping basket. Sister had same one but got JANE double for last 2 kids which Im borrowing she says you can push with 1 hand same as our single and she managed to get a lie flat car seat for it which is great app. for when NOT in car esp. so heres hoping. My kids are all 2 yrs apart and found that you couldn't really avoid them falling asleep in buggy with school runs.

MummyElk · 06/03/2010 15:52

hello all
back from a visit to the iLs, DD was most entertaining which is GOOD (been tricky couple of years for them so plenty of DD bonding time is a good thing), DH got tied up doing computery things again which is par for the course semi irritating I DIDN'T wear my full evening gown, and moreover remembered to put the hospital bag in the car, so am obviously still pregnant...

Think obsession is part of pregnancy? I can't stop thinking about the powertwin.... DH, bless him, said this morning, you might as well go and buy it.... most of you are indicating a double is definitely useful..... I think DD likes walking a lot but the thing is, it's getting her to walk in the same direction as me....that's what concerns me about her walking everywhere once DC2 arrives?!! and not sure she'd really relish the buggy board the entire time.... and navy blue is SO adaptable.....

right. onto more interesting things.
mawbroon VERY exciting news, and well done pixie that red nose is clearly a good Detective Sniffer Outer..
pacific hmm not sure about the bassett all sorts....though i'm partial to the nobbly aniseed ones if you've got any left....
db am sending you big non-sweet vibes in the hope your sweet tooth falls out for the remainder of your pg, your poor thing!! Of course satsumas won't do it!!

blonde36er · 06/03/2010 18:19

Evenin' all

Still here

Went to have a look round the consultant unit at the hospital this afternoon (has now swung me even more towards declining the induction and going for expectant management...not told DH yet though ) Really didn't like it...it's old, and just not somewhere that I want to have my baby Don't think it helped that I didn't warm to the lady that was taking us round though!

On the plus side, still getting lots of show, so things are at least going in the right direction down there, and DH was good enough to offer some husbandly support again to the cause this morning . Been quite 'niggly' today as well, no pains as such but some backache and some tightenings, not much but definitely just enough for me to notice - perhaps fat baby didn't like the CLU either Meant to be going for a drink for a colleague's birthday tonight, so fingers crossed for sods law kicking in (have second best pants on too!)

All your talk of chocolate has made me want some...hmm...I can always replace the easter eggs...

designerbaby · 06/03/2010 19:03

Hiya all,

Blonde36 - I'd personally go for expectant management for a bit if you can... I know that my induction experience wasn't typical, but at best they can be unpredictable... Another thing to consider is how sure you are of your dates - for example, did you have an early dating scan (i.e. 7-9 weeks - optimum time for accurate dating, apparently) - by 12 weeks things can vary a bit more and it can be hard to date quite so accurately... by which I mean, you may not be that overdue at all - I'm inclined to think I actually wasn't with DD1 which is why it wasn;t that successful IYSWIM. Fora a start she kept measuring on the lower centiles throughout earlier scans, then popped out on the 98th . But anyway, with shows and tightenings it sounds like things are gearing up - so I'd be inclined to let things take their course for a bit longer...

MummyElk - the reason I like the P&T is that even if i don;t get that much use out of it as a double I can still use it as a single ? it'll be big enough for either child, and it'll be great from rambling on the Common (HOW South London am I these days )

Speaking of which ? Manda - you OK sweetie? You've gone quiet... remember I am now REALLY just down the road, if you need a RL should to cry on/ear to bend/whatever...

Mawbroon - many congrats... we've had a slower week this week though, eh? Last week was fast n' furious...

Arcadie - thanks for posting on my other thread - will be poppping over then once I've got DD1 to bed... lots of sensible comments though, which helps no end...

Right DD1 ot of bath - am on duty for bedtime and mummy cuddles with my velcro daughter - I can see this becoming quite difficult to manage ina few weeks time. Seriously - joined at the hip doesn;t even begin to cover it...

blonde36er · 06/03/2010 19:09

Cheers DB - I am certain of my dates...the date I calculated was only one day off what the scan came back at, however my Mum has taken a while to cook all her babies, so we'll see...if things are starting to really look promising in the week then DH will be supportive of me waiting longer I think. If things go quiet though, then I think he'll probably try and talk me into going to the induction appt...it's half his baby too so I suppose that I should take his feelings into account re increased risk etc.

Anyway, days and days left before we have to go down that road, but thanks for the advice, I will certainly bear it in mind

designerbaby · 06/03/2010 19:49

Of course, there's always Cod Liver Oil... The only thing I didn't try last time... Ina May Gaskin swears by it though - a bit in some orange juice apparently - buuy check how much. Of course, it's not without its downside...

I forget - have you tried acupuncture?

Sorry will shut up - it's just possible that you're not quite as obsessed with avoiding induction as I am!??

db
xx

annamama · 06/03/2010 19:56

Blonde - if you keep having a show and you also have backache and tightenings, I'd say it would be pretty unlikely that labour will NOT start soon! No induction for you I reckon.

DB - similar thing happened to my sister, according to her own dates she was due 2 weeks later than what 12 week scan showed but she let herself be talked into induction which was awful and resulted in failed ventouse and/or forceps, episiotomy and then EMCS. This time she will more or less refuse induction. I read your other thread too, think it was good but have nothing more to add than what arcadie said, some points might be unnecessary, keep it as short as possible. I'm (almost) sure it will be a lot easier this time and this birth will help you get over the trauma of the last one... I hope this is true for everyone who has had a traumatic first birth (including myself)!

DH is very pleased that some of you found the video funny! I'm slightly embarrassed but thought you guys would be some of the few people that might appreciate our attempt at lightening up the frustration of being overdue...

I've been having stronger BH today starting at the top of my bump, they are almost painful. I keep telling DH I'm going into labour, now it will be like Peter and the wolf, when I really do he won't believe me.

Oh and Manda, I seem to have higher BP now as well as you (we have a machine at home), but I don't have any swelling. I think I heard or read that higher BP at the end of PG is common, it's usually at its lowest somewhere in the middle.

Hi Sarah - glad you're enjoying your new addition to the family! It feels a bit like it's "us and them" now with regards to us who are waiting and yous who have already got your babies...

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 06/03/2010 21:10

Bedrest, you poor thing, just make sure you wiggle your toe lots to avoid poor circulation and change position in bed as pressure sore prevention. Do they give out extra medals for phantastic twin pregnancies?? I think you should have one anyway...

anna, I am another one who found the sweep video funny, even DH did and he is usually a bit harder to please than silly me .

Re inductions: AFAIK they work an awful lot better and are less traumatic when your body is ready to go into labour anyway ie when you are overdue. That's why 'early' induction is ofter really quite hard to achieve successfully (see our own P&P and Joy on OBEM).
Personally I do not consider a pregnancy at less than 42 weeks truly 'overdue' and expectant management until and a bit beyond that is what I would opt for.
However, if any of us end up induced, I just wanted to repeat that my first delivery was not a bad experience at all: induced at T+15, had prostin gel x2, first contractions started around midnight, by 7am I had ARM which really set things off , had an epidural which was magic but predictably slowed things right down, had synto drip, was perfectly comfortable all the time, and had DS1 just after 2pm.

Didn't get the 'rush' I had after successful VBAC with DS3 and was very medicalised birth but equally was not at all traumatic and I have v fond memories of it all. I suppose the first is always a bit special...

Also, much as I all of you delivering at home in lovely new units, having delivered x3 in rather tired rundown maternity hospital: please bear in mind that how well looked after you'll feel will v soon outweigh the decor . I would have happily gone back to the same place again if they hadn't gone and closed the place in January.
I am excited to have the option of labouring and delivering in a pool in the new hospital, but... still feel a bit whistful about the old place

blonde, I think things are happening for you... They used to routinely give enemas to labouring women . But, hey, you go for the cod liver oil .

No sweeties of any kind here tonight ....

designerbaby · 06/03/2010 22:01

Pacific - no sweeties? HA! Welcome to my world... Mwa-ha-ha-ha-ha...

Along similar lines, I have decided that DD1 (2 + a bit) is, in fact, not related to me.

After her fish pie supper, I gave her a little 'dessert medley' on a plate to help herself to - it consisted of chunks of apple, some cheese and a slice of chocolate swiss roll, which DH had illegally opened earlier.

She ate the apple, and the cheese, and left the chocolate cake untouched...

Clearly someone swapped the babies in the hospital... although I'd have been surprised if there were many at the time who were as fat as she was...

Made all the more poignant by my current no-sugar torture regime, I have to say... I think it's been more than a little contributing to my down in the dumps mood... (let's face it, that emoticon is the closest I've come to one in over 6 weeks, and will come for another fortnight...

db
xx

p.s.

Sariska · 06/03/2010 22:16

Cod liver oil, uurrgghh! Double uurrgghh cos I am a vegetarian. But, but, maybe I'll get desperate enough. I'm kinda with you, DB, on the wish to avoid induction. Not because my first birth was anything like as traumatic as yours but it was very long and did involve a last minute transfer to hospital when contractions stalled at transition - and I was within a whisker (apparently) of a surgical delivery in theatre. If my body found it that hard following spontaneous labour (at 41 weeks) I can't imagine that an induction could go well. And I'm quite afraid of having to fight off an induction because my 12 wk scan put my due date a whole 7 days ahead of my own date. However, I am cheered by what you said, Pacific, and fully intend to go for expectant management until at least term plus 15.

Lovely sunny day here today, enhanced by a good supply of mini eggs. (Although I am slightly afraid that when this baby finally does emerge, I will discover that my bump is 90% mini egg and only 10% baby.) Took DS out for a walk and thank god there were no running into the road incidents today - although I do keep having horrible flashbacks and "what if?" moments. Still, I am now the happy owner ofone of those wrist reins that I plan to make good use of.

Crossing fingers for you, blonde, but agree that everything sounds very promising.

Hope you are not too bored, Pixie, and that you have plenty to read, watch and eat for those moments when MN is not as entertaining as it should be!

Off to watch anna on Youtube now!

Sorry for what is probably a weird stream of consciousness post. Posting on iPhone isn't conducive to terribly sensible or logical composition (or maybe that is just another late pregnancy thingummy....).
