Morning all!

Just got a link to this page about the old wives' tales on getting labour started from BabyCentre. They make it sound like it's all a load of old twaddle/dangerous, but I did like the "And finally" because I reckon the last one probably will work.

Bet all hospital birthing pools will be full after OBEM - I baggsied mine first, OK? Not that anything appears to be happening round here apart from no sleep for me and gentle squirming from BabyDragon.

Mumof7, sending you good vibes, I'm sorry you're feeling so low about it all. Actually good vibes to everyone. If we're all that hormonal then things must be starting to happen, surely?

Hello newbies and congratulations EmLouT! Rebecca, if you're hovering still, we had a Slumber Bear (Blooming Marvellous) for DD which acted like a baby "off" switch when she was in her Moses basket. We only used the heart beat setting and until she was about 6 months. Whatever DH thinks, it was NOT him rolling over and sleepily muttering "Shush" that worked!

Shroomer · 25/02/2010 12:14

I'm sorry, but I have to say it: I really want to see my mucous plug!! 2 weeks till the due date, and nothing. I've just been on a 40 minute walk in the hope that gravity will make it pop out, but no.

BlueyDragon - I was also thinking that hospital birthing pools will be full now. Bah. There are only 2 at my hospital, and it's first come first served.

annamama · 25/02/2010 12:33

We have 3 pools at mine, hoping at least one will be free!

not another blinking queue jumper

Iwonka · 25/02/2010 13:38

Who is it?! I know it isn't me!

Sariska · 25/02/2010 13:40

Who is it? Who is it? [Uber impatient emoticon]

Only one birth pool where I'm going. Already feel tearful at the thought of someone else having bagsied it first. The pool was the best thing about my first labour. Can't imagine going through it without it. Think will just have to go home and use bath instead. Maybe.

About to dial into work call about potential redundancies. Perhaps bad news will bring on labour?

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2010 13:41

Oh, an arrival - bah, on FB . And a queue jumper, hmm ??

Pools up and down the country will be full, won't they? I was really surprised when my MW said they were not in much demand.... Having said that a friend told my yesterday that when she delivered almost 4 years ago in the same hospital I will be going to, they told she could not go in the pool as it was not filled - eh?? Surely, that's what water taps are for?? We shall see..

Re knickers: put proper humongous maternity knickers on for the first time today - 'tis bliss, they reach right up to my underarms where my waist would normally be and really beat my M+S size-larger-than-usual-but-otherwise-normal-briefs . There, there's a mental image you all needed .

I have a load of washing on with teeny-tiny things in it - awww! Cannot wait to hang them up

Righto, I am off for another dose of Raspberry Leaf Tinkture - yum not! Stuff babycentre; that Australian study was small but perfectly formed, and I did have a very nice 2nd stage last time round, so I Am A Believer!

Dalrymps · 25/02/2010 13:48

Afternoon

Been to see midwife, all ok with baby but she informed me he's back to back . Ds was the same but he only went b2b the day before labour and came out that way.

Cue me leaning forward constantly now to try and turn the little rascal. Not easy to mumsnet whilst leaning forward though, am currently perched on edge of sofa with laptop on a poof lower down so have to lean to type, NOT comfortable!

Crampy low down periody pain again today.

Midwife asked if baby had dropped a bit and had to confess I have no idea! She said I was measuring as if he had but didn't mention whether I was engaged. Gave me a leaflet on optimum fetal positioning with tips on positions to try to turn him.

MummyElk · 25/02/2010 14:17

pacific i can't help thinking your raspberry leaf tincture sounds like it might have the consistency of iwcas's gaviscon..... she's so spot on with that, my pg friend and me at work nearly both simulatenously threw up the day we decided it was, er, the consistency it was....
I also know the identity of the New Mum!! will await her announcement though. All sounds ok. good spot iwcas

Went to see Lee Mack last night, absolutely hilarious, soooo glad i tena ladied it i'm not sure i actually needed it but it meant i could have a jolly good laugh and not worry....as it was we were up in the gods so it was a bit white knuckles to the seats!! there were a few moments when i was laughing so much my whole tummy physically HURT but i couldn't stop. must be good therapy though, surely....

no more dreams thank goodness!! Am Peppa Pigged out!!
Nothing much to report here. Sorry to hear people are variously uncomfortable/fed up/worried etc, if it helps, i don't know a single pg person in RL who isn't feeling it either, it's just a hard slog at the end with worries and an over active brain!

Can any other seasoned professional mums please advise on.......Whether i should potty train DD next week? She's ready...i'm not due till 18th march...CM is happy to assist... think it's too much upheaval for her? the plus side is she has plenty of me time over the next few weeks, we don't have any plans, and then once babs arrives we also have Daddy at home for two weeks to help out too. SWMNBN says don't try before a new baby is due but has case studies to suggest it's actually ok.

have to dash and put DD to bed for a nap before i pop out to see a friend in hospital (DH working from home) back anon

have a good afternoon all

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2010 14:25

MummyElk, I can reassured you RL tincture is runny like water - in fact 25% alcohol

And grrrr and knowing the new mummy's identity - I do respect her right to let us know but curiosity is killing me!

Off to school in a mo, there might be news afterwards, I hope....

hecklephone · 25/02/2010 14:36

Ooooh, who's had their baby?? You're such a tease IWCAS! Whoever it is, I'm obviously not 'friends' with on FB as I'm on it almost as much as MN and I haven't seen anything! [impatient-to-know emoticon]

Well my LO has decided to spend the last half-hour trampolining on my cervix. Nice.

at your address Arcadie...should I send some florentines anyway?!

Got out of the house this morning, bus into town for a coffee and read of the paper - my favourite pastime. Also bought a present for DD 'from the baby' - a Disney princess phone. It's pink and girly and a bit noisy but she's going to love it!

Finally time to get some nursing bras I think - going to check out some of your recommendations. Can anyone also recommend good nursing tops? Or do you think they're a bit of a waste of time? I didn't really use any last time as it was summer and I was usually only wearing a vest or T-shirt anyway, so had pretty easy access to bosoms! But I think they could be worthwhile this time. Any opinions?

Pingpong · 25/02/2010 14:41

sorry I'm back DD gone for her nap and Mother dispatched to Tesco so peace reigns over chez Smac once more. I do love having my mother here and she is a HUGE help but I find it a bit off putting having her sitting beside me on the sofa when I'm trying to MN or FB - a girl needs a bit of privacy!
Well I saw the registrar rather than the consultant today, same one as I saw yesterday on the ward. His view was a bit different to what I'd been told previously and he seemed quite negative about induction for VBAC and would only give me 5 days not 6, still 2 applications of gel but no mention of ARM. Anyway he gave me a choice of booking ELCS for 5 days over or booking induction for 5 days over so we are still planning on VBAC if spontaneous labour ever starts but if nothing by Tuesday morning then baby Mac will arrive by ELCS. So I've got another appointment at the Day Assessment Unit on Monday and then CS booked for 10.30 on Tuesday!
So every possible method of bringing on labour will be tried this weekend maybe except the castor oil one and possibly one or two others that I draw the line at and yes before you ask Marital relations have resumed even though DH said he was 'exhausted' after a night on the labour ward! I pointed out it maybe sometime before he gets it again but at this rate it might be tonight again!
IWCAS can't believe the hassle you have had with cooker/heating not what you need at this late stage of pregnancy.
sorry to hear of all the back to back babies - I don't have any experience of that but hope they all turn for you.
annamama 4/5th is still considered engaged just that most of the head is still out and only 1/5th in but it's a start in the right direction.
pacific I'm smiling at the thought of you with little things in the washing machine - that must mean your head is out the sand and DS4 is really coming to join you quite soon!
sariska hope there isn't bad news coming to you, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
manda have to confess that when pg friend and I saw that baby bath on 'This Morning' the other day as part of the baby products review we were both at the price!!! Didn't realise it could multitask as toy box but still felt it was very overpriced for something you use for such a short time. I had a loan of a baby bath last time and FWIW I thought it was useful especially as I had cs and couldn't bend I could get mother or DH to fill it up and perch it on a table for me. Also I used it in the big bath so didn't have to fill up big bath with water which was handy when there was explosive BF poo 5 minutes before I was supposed to be going somewhere and we just wanted a quick cleaning session but I think this time I'm just going to go for a basin.
IWCAS don't worry about the nursery not being ready! If you are not well then rest up the curtains can wait! Honestly! I have done nothing to get a room ready for baby number 2. I haven't even decided which room it will have. Our spare room and office are going to have to combine into one and I can't decide if DD should move or not. ATM it suits me best to keep the spare room as it is as my Mum is here anyway so for now nothing is changing. Like you say baby will be in with you for a while anyway!
Bluey I'm going to have another look at that babycentre link - thanks - my email from babycentre today was 'looking after your newborn' as I'm at 40w but I've got no baby I wanted to shout at the computer when I opened it!
DrSkid how are you doing today? - I haven't checked the overdue thread yet might cruise over there later.
mawbroon don't worry about not mentioning everyone we are just a bunch of bletherskates just drop in when you can and tell us your news. Pink tinges sound positive, maybe start of a show?
Iwonka sounds like things might happen for you before due date? and nice that your DH is being so supportive. I think mine was better first time round, this time he seems much more detached although he did say he can't wait to meet the baby
scooby hope funerals/interviews all go smoothly and you get some time to focus on baby - you sound pretty fed up with life right now.
mumof7+4 don't really have any advice but you know you can vent/get things off your chest here. If you have had good natural delivery experiences before then I'd probably be tempted to try for a natural breech delivery as your body knows what to do IYKWIM.
Mummyelk I'd probably go with the flow if DD is showing signs of wanting to potty train then take your lead from her. We aren't getting very far but I'm going for a very relaxed approach and I'm also aware that at the moment I'm not very inclined to be leaping up off the sofa to get the potty but if she asks then she gets to use it. We have it sitting around and dolly seems to spend a lot of time on it but there is very little in terms of results with DD.
Right I'm giving up on the scrolling backwards but my parting guess on the new baby is Baby Caitni - if so I'm going to book an accupunture session right away
right that was a massive post but I felt I had to make up for all the recent me me me posts.
Waves to anyone I haven't mentioned and arcadie if you get too much cake I'd love to help you out.
Oh yes one last thing our nappy site went live today !!!! - as if I don't have enought things going on so here is the link - feedback and lots of clicks would be appreciated
Nappy Go Lucky

annamama · 25/02/2010 15:16

Smac - quick look at the site, it looks great! But you need to put a title on it, at the moment the title (at the top of the browser) comes up as Untitled 1. Good luck with the new business!

Shroomer · 25/02/2010 15:36

Smac - The site looks good. I like the 'shop by brand'/'main products' division. I see that you have a 'contact us' bit, but this could be given more prominence and put in the 'customer links' menu. I like the use of space/all the white background. I think that the space between each letter is a little too much (personal opinion). The images at the top whizz by a little quickly and it might be easier on the eyes if they just replaced each other, rather than dragged across the screen. The images and prices at the bottom of the screen need to be equally vertically aligned.

Ooh we have a new arrival! Tis not I, so no need to book your acupuncture yet Smac . And tis not Iwonka (that was my first guess!)...oh I want to know!

Smac I really like the website - very clean and contemporary looking and easy to navigate. I agree with Shroomer that the "Contact us" bit could also go in the Customer Links section...it's maybe just me but I like to read the "About us/Contact us" sections of websites . I think I find it reassuring...Also, on the products, I didn't see either a nappy bin or tea tree oil. I chose to buy my bumgenius from Cheeks and Cherries partially because I could also buy the bin and tea tree oil at the same time (also bought couple of wet bags and some of that washing powder you stock and liners so that I'd feel good to go once baby arrives). Another suggestion may be to offer starter packs/sample packs (I think Siamese bought one of these). And finally, is it possible for you to accept any of the council vouchers that are offered for washable nappies? Not sure if it's possible with online retailing, but if you could then it would be a definite incentive for possible customers! Anyway, I know where I'll be looking when I need more nappies! Shame the registrar wasn't as positive as the consultant, but having Tuesday as d-day must be a relief. There's a very good chance you'll be into spontaneous labour before then though!

Sariska really hope the phone call wasn't bad news. What a stressful time at work...

Pacific so glad you're getting into the swing of ML!

Heckle florentines, yum! Really should try to bake something (I'm rubbish though, I seriously think rice crispie cakes count as baking ).

Manda interesting that your midwife isn't worried by your BP. FWIW mine was very low for most of my pregnancy and then went up to around 120/70 around 32 weeks and has stayed there since (that's high for me btw, but midwife says she sees this a lot with women with low BP normally).

Bluey love the link - especially the bit at the end . Wish I could still fit into any nice knickers .

And sending baby turning vibes to everyone who needs it (caitni sings "turn, baby, turn" to every bump who needs it). Babies turn as part of labour anyway, so hoping all the babies get the turning vibe nice and early. Meanwhile, the sitting at the edge of the sofa, or with a mountain of pillows behind and underneath, help me.

This is for you too Mumof7 - the mixed feelings must be hard to process but at least you have a bit more info now. And don't forget to trust your instincts too - don't want to sound too dippy, but you've been through birth so many times and you know what you, your body and your baby will be capable of.

So I managed to scrape our car this afternoon . I am rubbish at parallel parking and now have proof of it. Luckily (or not so luckily), it was against a friend's car and she was fine about it, having done it herself in the past (and I was heading over there to help her jump her car as the battery had died). But the sausage sandwich and skinny chips I had for lunch in the pub with her made me feel better .

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2010 16:21

Oh, at Pixie putting on the emotional blackmail!! Yes, yes, my baby is also v v sad - gawn, you know you want to, spill the beans that is!

MummyElk, how old is your DD again? Did she not just turn 2? Or am confusing her with somebody else's LO? - Not unlikely, in which case, sorry!
I think if she is ready for potty training and you have a relaxed approach to it, then give it a go! Some kids decide that nappies are for the new baby once the baby has arrived and move on to big girl/boy pants really quickly. Others of course will regress with a new arrival ... Just do not get stressed out about it - you or her .
FWIW, DSs1 and 2 were both close to 3, but made the transition virtually on one weekend (well, well ready children with lazy mummy ). Chocolate buttons helped...

Caitni · 25/02/2010 16:22

PS Smac on my browser (which is firefox) your site comes up as "Untitled1" on the tab (so my tabs are currently "Mumsnet Discussions/Welcome to Facebook/Untitled1" - hope that makes sense) which I think is what Anna was referring to too.

they are not sore though, so not labour eh?

Am joining Pixie and pacific in the guilt tripping - my baby wants to know too .

Actually TLC and Scooby are both good choices Pixie.

For what it's worth, DH already knows to update MN before Facebook .
