Sorry for the typos in that post btw!

DrSkidaddle · 24/02/2010 17:21

oh smac - sympathies from a fellow sufferer of false labour - after my SIX hours of fake contractions on Sunday I don't think I'll believe I'm in labour until the head crowns! I'm sure it must mean we can't be too far off though. Are you officially overdue yet? I am 40+4 today - there's a thread in childbirth on being overdue if you need some extra support!

Hi LaTristesse and welcome! I wouldn't even entertain the idea of getting rid of entire ladygarden but then I wouldn;t when not pg either [slattern]

arcadie I also sobbed at that little baby being resusitated - and then there was a BREAK!!! How could they put a break in there??? I was also feeling like a rubbish mother a couple of weeks ago - also cried on DH - he now gets up with them EVERY morning and offers to do bath AND stories every night and it really has made such a difference - could your DH do more to help?

heckle - I am also BORED. Have come into work to relieve the tedium! Has been really nice to catch up with people and think about things other than babies for a while!

IWCAS glad your heating and hot water are restored and of your night out - enjoy!

DrSkidaddle · 24/02/2010 17:24

crossed posts caitni - how exciting the baby's head's engaged! But you do know it's my turn before you (you too smac and iwonka), don't you? It would just be plain rude to have yours first

Caitni · 24/02/2010 17:34

oh don't worry DrSkid wouldn't dream of taking my turn before you! I am still confident that babyskid will be here well before my baby arrives .

felt awful last night spent most of it crying tossing over the merits of elcs really upset at prospect feel that if elect for cs i will have failed daft irrational yes in that ive had 6 very normal drug free births one at home . watching OBEM probably not helping .
Saw lovely registrar todaY Who listened to all my questions and queries on everything id read on internet etc spelt out very clearly all the pros and cons relative risks of elcs or breech vaginal delivery but said ultimately the decision is yours and we will support you if you do decide on vaginal delivery etc which was all id wanted in the first place that is to be given a choice and allowed to decide for myself not told what was best for me.
if babies safety is most important then cs best option but obviously strong chance i could deliver vaginally with no peroblems no gurantees.i think the deciding factor is could i live my self if anything did go wrong and lo didnt make and obviously the answer is no. at the moment i wish i had a crystal ball and knew what was best .
booked in on 5th for cs although but still feel tempted to try a vaginal delivery and may still chicken out of cs .
not sure whether its best to wait to go into labour to give baby a chance to turn or whether as the last few labours have been around an hour from start to finish whether by doing that i run risk of delivering breech in the back of an ambulance which sounds very risky.
feel really guilty but feel really frustrated with lo and really wondering if im going to be able to bond with her and she was a really wanted baby not an unpresent surprise . never felt like this before also concerned that being breech is a sign that somethingd wrong.
apologies for the long and negative message.

mumofsevenplusfour · 24/02/2010 17:49

should read unpleasant surpris feel brain dead tonight

annamama · 24/02/2010 19:19

Why will they not try to turn it? Poor you... how frustrating, silly baby! But I'm sure you will forgive her soon enough.

Evening all,

After 4 attempts to post with comments that related personally to some of you and losing them all I am now well and truly out of patience and hacked off. So apologies I cannot face trying yet again - bloody computer.

Had midwife appt today - BP suprisingly back down (that was before crappy computer!!). LO still only 3/5 engaged - hasn't advanced in weeks. I had to ask which way the LO was lying and midwife announced that it seems to be kind of back to back. Not that she was gonna bother to tell me. So now - not having been seen for 4 weeks and only having 1.5 weeks til due date I need all ideas to turn this little so and so!!! Not helping towards my really pants mood as you can probably tell. Also wasn't impressed when midwife said to make an appt for two weeks time ( when I will be overdue) and not so much as a comment that - 'not that Ill see you etc etc' Now I know that its statistically likely I'll go overdue but I really didn't want to hear that yes I'll have to see her again in two weeks.

Sorry for hormonal rant. Really really really getting peed off now. Want DH interview and funerals over with so that some time this year WE can focus on our child!!! Off to whine some more into a pillow - leaning forward of course.

hecklephone · 24/02/2010 19:51

Poor you smac but don't worry, just hang on in there - baby will come when they're really ready and at least you've seen some action - it must mean the real thing is close. Maybe you should get a good night's sleep and then bounce like crazy tomorrow??

Oh dear scooby that's kind of worrying that the midwife wasn't even going to mention your LO is back to back. Last time I saw the MW I made sure to ask if mine was head down, which she is - now I wish I'd asked about the back to back possibility in case she was witholding the information...I'll make sure and check next week I think.

So, inspired by IWCAS suggesting she was going to bake scones I decided to relieve some of the tedium by doing similar...there's now a tray of florentines cooling in my kitchen. A bit Christmassy, I know, but I had all the ingredients left over from then when I made a batch for gifts! Tomorrow I think I'll do some cookies. At least I won't feel (too) guilty about eating whatever I make!

Arcadie · 24/02/2010 19:53

Scooby Ah that sucks.... FWIW My midwife never mentioned that DS and DD were lying back to back - I think because they can turn at any point really, they don't bother worrying you. And my back to back labour wasn't so bad at all - didn't need pain relief til about 7cm and I'm not someone who has a high pain threshold atall.
Sorry you're feeling so rotten about it all - going overdue is the most frustrating thing ever and nothing anyone ever says can make it feel better. But we understand and will sympathise if you do..

Arcadie · 24/02/2010 19:56

Smac and Skid How INCREDIBLY frustrating. But this means it can't be long. Looking forward to blow by blow accounts of your labours before you get to the point of setting off for hospital this time....

PacificDogwood · 24/02/2010 20:47

Evening, all, I am just marking my spot - this thread just moves too fast!

Sympathies to all dashed expectations - it'll happen when it happens. Oh crap platitudes, just sympathies...

Pixie, still 'here', phantastic !

Mummyfor7, I think you win the prize for being in the most unfortunate situation at the mo - much as I am so keen on another VBAC myself, a breech VBAC - eeek! Let's hope your LO will see sense and turn in time - lots of positive visualisations, bouncing, leaning forwards, scrubbing floors etc etc. Really rooting for you!

La Tristesse, welcome !

Swine Flu jag went ok - well, as far as it can go well when you are pinning your child down whilst somebody inflicts pain on them - I am a wuss! DS3 was outraged and refused eyecontact with the HV even after he had calmed down and she was trying to speak to him - we left with him clutching a chocolate button in each hand which he only ate once we had left in disgust
On the upside, he has been fine since .
Much as the whole H1N1 thing seems to have calmed down, I decided to have him vaccinated anyway, as there will hopefully be some protection even if the virus does mutate. Having said that, DS2 is much more chesty (I am still refusing to accept that he is asthmatic although he probably is...) but has not been offered it. Should probably ask for it for him though... Gah, he'll hate me and he is old enough to tell me that he hates me!

Right, I am so going to bed now - as no doubt come 4am I will be awake and unable to do anything other than get up, make cup of tea, MN for a while read a few pages and only then go back to sleep - in spare bed....

Just popping in to give my sympathies to those overdue and getting fed up!

I thought it was gonna happen last night but nothing came of it, had crampy oains through the night that kept waking me up and felt like early labour. They never got stronger or more frequent though and then just died off eventually. All I have today is intermittant low down period type achyness...

Not really that bothered yet as we still have things to do before baby arrives and i'm not due till a week on sat!

Got midwife check up in the morning so looking forward to finding out what little rymps is up to

Welcome to 4LittleDucks and LaTristesse

My ribs are killing me tonight, gonna mooch off to bed and relieve the pressure by lying down. Hope i'm not kept awake by fake labour again...jeez!

Night all x x

annamama · 25/02/2010 08:58

I can't believe all you people going into (and out of) "fake labour"! Fingers crossed that those who are overdue or due don't have to wait much longer.

Back to back... It seems a bit of a mystery top me. I still don't know what happened last time, as DD was born back to back (she came out looking right at her dad), but no one had told me anything about back to back before. So it could be that she turned during labour, as I was forced to lie down to be monitored... I just don't know. Now I'm hoping for the opposite, ie baby is back to back now but if I have a good active labour she will turn and come out normally!

Thanks for the song Caitni and cool that you're engaged too.

Arcadie - at your address.

Lisba - well done going swimming!

I went on our crosstrainer for 2 minutes yesterday and thought I was going to die. Hmm, what was that about keeping fit to make labour easier... bah.

DH is bidding on ebay on a "Blossom Farm Playnest", bless him.

Nothing much happening here except I feel really weak and faint today , probably low BP and maybe need a 2nd breakfast...

OP posts:
MandaHugNKiss · 25/02/2010 09:23

Oh anna now I have images of you with huge hairy feet... well, you did mention second breakfast!

I just ate a bagel with cheese, ham, chicken, tomato and pickle, then a packet of prawn cocktail crisps. Odd for breakfast for sure.

Midwife appointment my bp slightly up on what the doctor had been concerned about but she wasn't even remotely. Although she recorded 4/5 engaged (pfft, that's virtually no better than saying 'head down!') she didn't mention positioning until I mentioned I think he's b2b. 'Oh, yes, I can feel all the limbs at hte front so you're probably right - try leaning forward lots' CUe me imagining myself as the leaning tower of Amanda. I mean, really, leaning forwards lots? She dd also mention that as it's my third DC he would probably come just as well b2b... I hope so (failing him turning into a more optimal postion).

So I ordered a baby bath yesterday but as I was obsessed wanting a red one I ended up with something that looks like a toy box! (actually, the 'blurb' says it's multi-fuctional and suggests laundry basket or toy box). It's also fold away which is great as we are short on space here in the flat. Anyone have any experience of them: here

Apologies for not addressing everyone; there were a lot of posts... needless to say everyone who deserves sympathy has it and to all newbies, rejoiners and regulars.

Pingpong · 25/02/2010 09:44

Well today is due date!
No further action during the night but I did manage to sleep okay so feel a bit more rested. Off for consultant appointment right now and get induction date.
Will try and catch up on all the posts this afternoon while DD naps.

annamama · 25/02/2010 09:51

Manda - I had no idea what you were talking about... but I googled "second breakfast hairy feet" and realised you think I'm a Hobbit!

This is from wikipedia:

They would enjoy at least seven meals a day, when they can get them ? breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, luncheon, afternoon tea, dinner and (later in the evening) supper.

Sounds like what I eat! Not sure if my feet are hairy, can't see them.

Oh and I checked my MW notes, it also says 4/5, which means 4/5 free if I remember correctly... Bah, she told me it was engaged.

Baby bath looks very practical.

OP posts:
Iwonka · 25/02/2010 10:05

Good morning everyone!

Annamama, good news on baby's head being engaged. Cross my fingers that she turns when she needs to.

Arcadie, I think you're being way too hard on yourself. It's understandable that you'd be tired. I'm sure you're a great mommy to them, pregnant or not.

Walnut8, good luck with the perineal massage. My DH and I have gotten into a routine with it and it's not that bad. Actually, he says he can feel a difference. Anyways, if there's a chance that it could help, I would keep going.

IWCAS, great news on getting heating and hot water restored! Hope you enjoyed your night at the movies, your plan sounded absolutely wonderful and relaxing.

Welcome La Tristesse!

Smac, I'm sorry to hear that things didn't go at the hospital as you'd expected but try not to stress, I'm sure it will all work out. (I know, easier said than done)

DrSkiddadle at your post. I wouldn't dare bud ahead of you but you know it's really not up to me.

mumofsevenplusfour, I really sympathize with your situation. Have they explained to you why they won't attempt turning the baby around (not sure if I missed something)? BTW, did you get the contact details of my hypnobirthing teacher? She might be able to help you, it would be worth a try...anyways, fingers crossed.

Manda at your breakfast! I had porridge.

Sympathies to everyone else who's feeling disappointed, achy, miserable at the moment.

As for me, I guess I'm feeling a mixture of emotions. I saw my GP yesterday aft for my last check up and she's convinced that I won't make it to my EDD. She said the baby is engaged and lying quite low. She thinks I could go in labour any day now. And that was before I told her I'd lost my mucous plug. So.... excitement and mild panic reigns at the Iwonka household! DH rushed home from work last night to get things all ready. We meditated together and then he gave me a pep talk, which was sweet. He's really trying to be supportive but I know he's also a bit nervous - it's our first baby. I'm a giddy with excitement but trying hard to stay calm and prepared for whatever may come.

PacificDogwood · 25/02/2010 10:18

Hi, ladies!

I feel like I am on my first 'proper' day of leave - back from school run, MN on , hot cup of tea next to me, Cbeebies entertaining DS3 - I can cope with this!!

Baby bath looks amazing - I am quite tempted although why (other than the groovy red colour) I do not know as we never had any baby baths at all, so why start now ? Tiny babes get topped and tailed and the odd bath in the kitchen sink, and bigger baby goes into big bath tub with daddy - DH has been Chief Bather and Hairwasher from the start

I definetely eat like a Hobbit - pregnant or not, unfortunately... And appointment is booked to deal with the hairy feet and the rest.

Arcadie, ROFL at you address!! If I sent you some home backing, do you think it would get there? Would save me from 'having' to eat it..

B2B babies - I thought there was a good chance that they can turn in early labour, non? And re leaning forward, that suggestion always makes me sigh as well: I am only comfortable when sitting with my feet up - all wrong I know..
Reminder to self: must get some actual air into Swiss Ball as it is otherwise quite useless...

DS3 seems is usual entertaining self, gabbing non-stop although still mainly Alienese, however he did wake up in dried-on sick and dodgy dirty nappy as well, sorry if TMI. I would imagine it was due to vacc, but who knows for certain... Anyway, his shouting of "Mummy, mummy, mummy" is still working just fine!

See ya all later!

mawbroon · 25/02/2010 10:30

I had a tiny pink show last night, and lots of braxton hicks. But nothing!!!

Could be another fortnight yet.

But this is my first indication that things might be happening. I had an elective cs with DS, so this is all new to me.

Good luck to everyone today. I am so rubbish at the name checking thing and feel terribly inadequate when I see some of the beautiful posts replying to everybody. I'm not being rude, honest, I just can't retain the information about who is who in my head. RL is bad enough when I have faces to put to names, but I find it impossible on here.

Iwonka Thanks - I'm feeling a little less useless today as I've spent a good hour reading to and playing with DD as DS is at playgroup or "Flayboop" as DD calls it. Exciting times that you could be our next 'un!

Anyone who feels like sending me cake can be treated to my real address, although the postman in York would probably recognise the other one as well!

Smac Happy duedate to you.... Happy duedate to yooooooo...
