silver i feel your pain, in a state of perma-nausea also. and several more weeks to go! no ideas except have been living off ginger/lemongrass cordial stuff which seems to help. that and making bloke do all the cooking, cannae handle any strong smells. - every cloud, eh?

Cosmosis · 23/02/2010 08:56

Mornign all. Still grinning at skater's news!

skihorse · 23/02/2010 09:19

I did actually cry when I read skater's post out loud to jailbait.

On a more serious note, the GP has made me and I am DELIGHTED that you ran in to a really good nurse... what if the fucking doctor had just prescribed you something to "get rid" of the pregnancy? I'm wondering if this is an issue which people need to be made aware of? Could it actually happen?

As far as your parents go Skater, I think if they want to pay, and it's convenient for you to get to the hospital then private would be lovely. I'm not an enormous fan of the NHS, especially in London. Talk to the lovely iggy - or if you don't fancy the entire private route, then cunty has a private doula and carrots interviewed a private midwife. There are various options for you - you don't need to deal with morons or 22 year old "consultants".

iggy I get 16 weeks at full pay and then am expected back at the coal face which is normal for NL. I do however in the first 5 years get the option to take "extended parental leave" at any time. I'm not sure I'd want to go back to work so early if the only option were daycare, but of course we're not doing that.

Am also umming and aahing about taking voluntary redundancy... but that might result in a move back to the UK in the middle of an economic shitstorm.

OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH SKATER!!!!!!! Oh my goodness I am so thrilled! That is just the best news!

RunLyraRun · 23/02/2010 09:58

Skater, I've already said it in the Palace but I had to come over here to read it with my own eyes - THAT'S AMAZING! After weeks of ectopics and M/Cs in the Palace (and even a molar ), that has cheered us up so much

Most amused that you think you're being a troll! Bleeding heavily isn't usually seen as good news, how were you to know otherwise!

I guess if you got to 12 weeks without knowing it, you must have had a period after a month of being pregnant? I think Scorps has that in her family.

Am bouncing up and down in my seat

skihorse · 23/02/2010 10:03

Btw skater a friend of mine bled very heavily throughout her pregnancy and I won't say the whole thing was without complications (clot on the placenta) - but, her baby boy was born last Monday and is fine.

givecarrotsachance · 23/02/2010 10:07

Jeez Skater that's absolutely incredible! Your GP is utterly crap and absolutely should have said to get a scan before giving up. I would personally write a letter to the surgery to complain. I am totally made up for you - how absolutely amazing! I do think they would have scanned you before doing a D&C anyway but thank f* they did.

Re going private, what bit are you worried about? A crap GP doesn't mean they're all crap, although that aside I have no faith in the hospital delivery system which is why I've opted for home birth - would highly recommend this to everyone who doesn't have an absolute need to be in hospital. I was talking to YOB about it last week, as I realised I'd never had to "persuade" him into it, and I asked why. He said that it was totally illogical, he felt, to go into hospital where you have one midwife per 3 labouring women so no support during the hard part, where people were ill, there was MRSA etc around, you're in a stressful environment... whereas you could be at home with one to one midwife care and in a clean and relaxed place.

But I understand that my feelings on this aren't shared by all!

silver on the bright side, you are getting symptoms. When they stopped with me dead on 10 weeks I had several weeks of feeling pretty worried and something of a fraud until the scan! Obviously I know that isn't actually going to make you feel better as feeling/being sick is just totally miz. I'll get my coat.

PS LOL @ skater worrying about being a troll . Bless . Let's face it, we all needed good news like that!!! Shit happens - good to know unshit does, too

skihorse · 23/02/2010 10:13

carrots That's my biggest fear about the hospital I think, the "stressful" environment - I'm just going to be so much better mentally at home. The midwife being there 100% for me and not fucking off down the corridor every 3 minutes is also a massive plus point!

CUNextTuesday · 23/02/2010 10:55

lol @ home being a clean environment - not here my mate - hence trip to the MW led unit...

Have taken day off. Tipped boss off last night by text that it might be the case but he only got half the message so he's spent all night thinking I twisted my ankle on the steps (thought it was odd when he suggested I go to A&E, but as he is a bloke>. When I explained this morning the phone blanched on his behalf . Bless.

Cos I'm still at Skooter's news. And because I hadn't processed the bit about scuffing over there for a potential D&C, well thank god they scanned .

givecarrotsachance · 23/02/2010 12:02

cunty mine is hardly good enough for Aggie and Kim but at least I don't have C Difficile lurking. I did read an article about a woman giving birth on a dog bed though

SilverSky · 23/02/2010 12:31

I am feeling bit better. Sandwich and crisps have helped.

Was talking to a colleague when had sudden rush of feeling bad so had to leave.

Will pop out for fresh air at lunch.

And i couldnt even finish my morning coffee, which is bad.

SilverSky · 23/02/2010 12:34

ps. I text husband for sympathy and he was sweet. Told me to relax and it would soon pass as its nearly afternoon.... Lol!

Pps. Trying to be positive about feeling ill as it has speshal meaning but its so hard! Where can i buy this life saving elixir that is ginger cordial?

skihorse · 23/02/2010 12:38

ha! The Ginger Lies, let me expose them for you - I spent years LOVING ginger, in fact, my horse is named Ginger. However, by week 6 chewing on ginger made me retch - I don't know if I will ever be able to enjoy it again. I used to love the Terry's dark chocolate covered crystallised ginger. Now ginger is like a tool of satan himself.

carrots Can you give me that bra shop link again please? I'm having bad bra luck here and the baps need one - I spent all last week sans brassiere though and it felt very decadant. And slutty.

Cosmosis · 23/02/2010 12:57

Lol at it being nearly afternoon. Oh the innocence {grin]

why on earth they call it morning sickness is beyond me. All day sickness more like. Sadly I found non stop eating the only cure. Apart from on the few really really vomity days I had, where nothing at all could pass my lips, not even water.

givecarrotsachance · 23/02/2010 13:08

ski was it the hot milk stuff? I'll ask my friend - not sure of the link.

Anyone else considering a lotus birth? No? Just me then .

Or, looking at using a thread or string umbilical tie instead of a clamp.

CUNextTuesday · 23/02/2010 13:15

I read that as locust birth. Not sure what that would entail other than thousands of people spectating in the birthing room...

givecarrotsachance · 23/02/2010 13:24

LOL cunty

SilverSky · 23/02/2010 13:40

Lotus birth? Is that some kind of yoga torture giving birth? Clearly legs akimbo is v v useful!

cos innocent indeed. Made me smile, naive fool. Bless.

Btw as punishment for him not having to give birth, go without, feel shite, look rough etc, have banned husband from delights of Tiramisu. If i cant have it, neither can he. Simples.

skihorse · 23/02/2010 13:52

I think a Lotus birth is when you give birth to a south-east asian baybee?

silver Why on earth have you banned yourselves from Tiramisu? Are you going fucking menkul? Do you want to join the 19 year olds who panic about everything? There are some right menkul ones on my ante-natal thread.

Or a high performance fibreglass car?

skihorse · 23/02/2010 13:57

haha a mate of mine ran in to a "bit of bother" and got paid 20k to go on Richard & Judy. He spent the proceeds on a Lotus. Tit.

Moron. Although obviously in the event of a serious road accident I would much rather be in a plastic box than one made of a more rigid construction...

Cosmosis · 23/02/2010 14:20

struggling to think of what is wrong with tiramisu. Teeny amount of coffee & alcohol not going to cause any harm. No raw eggs (well not in my recipe anyway)

Want tiramisu now. Will have to make do with copious amounts of miniature heroes and chocolate fingers (fnar fnar) that have appeared in office due to birthday.

CUNextTuesday · 23/02/2010 14:40

even raw eggs are ok if they are fresh. No salonella these days from lion stamped eggs. Most mass produced tiramisu uses catering egg, and restaurants get through so many eggs it's highly unlikely they would be anyhting but fresh.

I don't like it, but I've eaten mousse, hollandaise sauce and virtually everything else besides. Not universally accepted practice I know, but the risks are so tiny that I'm prepared to ignore.

Risk associated with directly affecting Rastus like medicines, vit A (and I would have said peanuts ) I am much more rigorous about. At least in theory.
