I don't know KK, but I share your concern, in my less optimistic moments!

KiwiKate - I just carried dd in my left or right arm as she bf and used the other hand to do everything else.
When I had dd1 I was sitting down to bf & just wanted to join in with a conversation at a party - just scooped up dd1 in my arm & went over. After this realised that I could do anything - apart from the ironing & slicing bread - whilst bf!!

When I had DD2 & 3 if I hadn't been able to bf & be mobile don't know how would have coped. The funniest moments were bf & potty training - you can just imagine I really think that as dds activities weren't interrupted that there were no jealousy probs. Also getting ready for school in the morning was easy - just bf as did make-up, got breafast, got them dressed & even on way to car.

Always hear about mums sitting down to bf & read stories to other kids. A newborn baby needs to bf 8-12 times in 24 hrs - thats alot of stories & a kid who is happy to sit still for hours......... Plus I saw my sil feeding formula (respect others choices here) & saw the hassle imho of sorting this out & then having to sit with no hands free to feed their little ones & not being able to deal with older kids - plus tied to schedules.

When dds were sleeping I sometimes carried them around in a babysling at home when not bf - to have two hands free.

Will have to start to get organised soon. I'll sort out the baby clothes - have leant to friends plus used 3 times - so might need to replace now. Will get some bf bras when I'm 36 weeks plus. Would recommend to all that babies need very little - don't buy too much!! - just need vests, babygros & nappies, car seat, babysling & nappies. When they're bigger they'll need loads - shoes every few months, sports kits, school bits etc - save for these moments!!
KiwiKate - happy to hear you're feeling better. Reasonable to be concerned about rel'ship with other kids when baby comes along. On my part - the more the others are involved the more they love being big brothers/sisters - a real big boost in the family order. When pressies come for babe - ask family (if you can) to include gifts for the other kids. Otherwise have a stock of small gifts for these moments. In a way just see how things go - if nothing much changes in their activities then there is no prob.

Hi everyone, just my luck, internet is down at home. Logged onto someone elses computer and using their interent, bit sneaky and naughty but hey i only got 2weeks left today and getting withdrawal symptoms from MN!

Glad to hear everyone in London is ok,i was in Bluewater and we all got evacuated, was ab it scary, and i was in mothercare looking at really cute 2yo clothes!! forward thinking!!

I;m 30+1 today, getting a bit scary now thinking there's only ten weeks left, still nice to know if anything goes wrong now and Noah's born that he's got a good chance of being fine.

Mum's told me i'm not allowed to get too excited yet as we still have my sisters wedding to thin k about before the baby. I really need a man, want to enjoy all of it with someone. Still at least i'll be more careful next time, and plan for a winter baby this heat is a nightmare.

Had my first craving last week - ICE, can't believe it, i just sit at work crunching away and then when i get home, it is very refreshing though, don't think it's doing my teeth any good.

I'm no iron tablets aswell now, not very pleasant but at least a maximum of 10 more weeks of them. Am rhesus neg aswell can't see it being a problem, but we'll just have to see.

Didn't realise we had a new thread, posted on the old one....just goes to show the pregnancy is really kicking in.

Thanks RH for pointing it out!

Hope everyone and their increasing bumps are ok.

STM x x

Hello hello. I've read good things elsewhere about the BT digital monitor. I have heard there's irritating interference on the Tomy ones - did you not find this (Piccadilly Circus)? I'm debating whether to get one at all at this juncture, since I can already hear the dog squeak from the end of the garden (usually when he's tried to eat a wasp) and the house itself isn't huge.

I have heard that it's possible with certain slings to breast feed with no hands - but I'm sure this form of multitasking doesn't happen immediately. Will be buying a sling though - with plenty of time to practise knots beforehand. Which one do you use, Milward?

STM - laughed evilly at your line that there's only ten weeks left. That's an average: they could be here before that... aren't they deemed to be 'baked' at 37 weeks...?? I also have a think for ice, ice-lollies etc - have done for weeks. Need more icecube trays, actually. I must be due about the same time as yourself...

...and on a more paranoid note - I notice that everytime someone updates the stats thread, I seem to fall off it (sniffs quietly to self in corner...)

Just wanted to say hi to everybody. I'm back from holiday now and back to work .

Anyone else suddenly feeling really, really, heavy. Had to have boyfriend help pull my jeans up this morning.

Otherwise, all well here.

Katts - i'm afraid not, it;s sickening but i can still fit into my size ten jeans, albeit as long as i wear long top aswell. Still i'm sure i'll get bigger, starting getting stretch marks on my stomach now...not a happy bunny.

RZ - Most people would be slightly worried by your comment about baby coming early, but you know i think i'd quite like it at 37 weeks, got longer with him then!

careful, singleteenagemum, don't make me have to hate you!! Only joking, I'm just jealous. I haven't seen size ten in a long while and I'm with Katts on this one, I'm huuuuge. I just bumped into a friend who I haven't seen in a few months who looked visibly shocked at the size of me. And don't get me started on the stretchmarks.

Katts · 15/07/2005 14:21

Jeez...I haven't even looked at any of my old jeans for the last 15 weeks. On the other hand, no stretch marks here ... yet.

Hi everyone. Here I am at work with the entire building to myself until i lock up at 4pm and i start my ML A WEEK TODAY! I am just so excited. It'll feel like our baby is really on his way then. Got our cot, dresser, wardrobe, under drawer storage delivered today - all flat packed!! Much as I love him, DH is not exactly Mr. DIY so thats a fun weekend ahead! Note to self:- When he is trying to assemble it, go out!
I am 32 weeks next Wednesday (well depends which midwife you speak to as I have been given 11th, 12th and 16th Sept tho we are going with the 16th!)
Is anyone else absolutely exhausted, feel huge heavy and aching and just too tired to even go out socialising? Or is it just me?! Hope not! I thought the first trimester was tiring but it has nothing on the last couple of months. Seriously considering drawing the curtains and going for a lie down on those incresaingly comfortable looking chairs in the reception area

Full GTT quite grim - had to drink a glass of syrup (sweeter than honey) and have three sets of blood tests over 2 hours - glad Ive got good veins. Consultant cautious till blood results back but mentioned possible need for self finger prick glucose testing at home and/or insulin Results back on Mon or Tues. Also baby is breech. Must admit I thought I could feel a head up top but as was told by 4 midwives that I was wrong believed them!

Have a great holiday in America Franch!

Welcome Kiwikate!

Franch - have a great time in America.Hope your sil is home.

Me too!! to every one else that is feeling tired and exhusted - and not sleeping well. Hopefully if the weather cools a little we might feel better.I'm waiting for a power surge - loads to do & no energy!

Going to see Van Morrison tomorrow night (last minute tickets) open air concert near Cambridge! Hope I can stand the heat and portaloos!!!

I'm trying to persuad dh to put the crib together(to mainly check if the matress, sheets, etc fit and monitor works) but with the tour de France and the golf - not much hope of that!!

Help!

What should I wear to an open air concert?
Needless to say my wardrobe is limited and tent like! Should I wear a black shift dress or more casual 3/4 trousers & t-shirt?? LadyLazarus you went to open air concert recently what do you think?

Report
ych · 15/07/2005 19:15

Redhelen - I think you should go more casual, go for the 3/4 trousers. Have fun!

Catching up on all the posts takes AGES! Only have a few mins to post while dh has bath with dd, but was intrigued by co-sleeping Milward. How does it work when the babe goes to bed before you? i.e. what do you do to stop the baby falling out? Only ask as dd still occasionally sleeps in with us if she akes up once we've gone to bed, as she sleeps between us (usually with me facing the other way as bump too big now) and I've always wondered how it worked.
Anyway - must dash.
But before I go at STM for the size 10 jeans. Honestly!! I have a friend who hasn't expanded one jot apart from very tidy bump. No flabby legs and massive thighs for her. I just seem to do the weeble look when pregnant. Not a pretty sight!

Report
milward · 15/07/2005 19:46

RZ - I have a babybjorn babysling - the basic type. Has been great - used until dds around 18 months. Never bf with dd clipped completely in the sling - sometimes when out used the front part as a cover for dd. At home just carried dd around in arm whilst she bf.
I'm huge - 20kilos heavier!! - but happy with it as well. I've always lost the flab with bf afterwards (hopefully this time as well) - but will just take things as they are. Have never dieted & don't intend to. Have loads of stretch marks - but love them.
Not sleeping well - as have to go to the loo about 3 times a night. Plus tired from running after my other kids. Some evenings feel like my legs just wont go any further.
RedHelen - enjoy the concert - wonder what little one will make of all that lound music!!

Report
milward · 15/07/2005 19:49

Pooka - I carried dd around during the evening & she just went to bed when I went to bed. If other little ones were in bed I'd go to bed early & bf whilst watching tv.

RedHelen - when we went to see Jamiroquai I just wore black trousers and a pink Indian style loose top with sandals. I don't have anything particularly 'dressy' in my maternity wardrobe, but this was the most 'party' looking outfit I could find! It was very comfy tho, and if you'll be standing a while or sitting on grass etc I'd go for the comfy option every time

Boompi - fingers crossed that your GTT result goes ok. What have they said about the breech thing? Is there still room for the baby to turn? Sorry if stupid question, don't know / understand too much about breech deliveries!

Hi all. Thought I'd share these couple of things with you. My Dad was meant to be on a leaving do tonight for his colleague who was starting maternity leave seven weeks before the baby was due. Anyway, she went home feeling ill yesterday and hey presto, baby arrives last night!!!! ( it could be one of us soon!!)Sorry, but that is just a little bit too scarey isn't it? Baby was a very healthy 5 and a half pounds.

DS gave me my first dying of embarrasment moment yesterday. We were at the check out in the supermarket,I was busy loading stuff, he was chattering away in the trolley. He suddenly looked very confused, pointed at the check out operator and shouted " Mummy, it's a man" I glanced up, did a similar confused look as indeed it was a man but in a woman's uniform and a definitely feminine name badge! Oh God, what to say? I literally threw a bag of grapes at DS to occupy him and spent the next few minutes chattering insanely at him about every item coming on the conveyerbelt. Not sure how to approach cross gender issues with a 2 year old!!

DH was working from home today so stole the computer. But it was justified I suppose .

Can't remember who asked about interference on the Tomy Monitor, but we haven't had a problem with it. We didn't use one when DS was small as we were in a very small house where it was impossible not to hear him, but now it is possible to ignore the crying.

I had a really good night's sleep last night - only one toilet visit and DS slept through (until 7:30am . I think my nicer sleeping child may be coming back [fingers crossed emoticon again].

I am being prodded at by this small baby a lot - nearly always on the right side. I know it being active is good, but it is a very busy baby.

sarahal, that is scary indeed. This baby is due in 9 weeks time, although if it came at the same time as DS it would come 7 weeks and 3 days time.

I am hoping it stays in for a while longer (until I have packed bags and it has somewhere to sleep etc)

My dd3 arrived 2 weeks early in 1.5hrs!! That day I'd finished getting everything ready - bags packed, clothes sorted for other kids, bedlinen for pil arriving in 2 weeks time - all the house was organised. I'd planned 2 weeks rest & relaxation - just doing nothing. When told baby would arrive that night thought it sort of unfair - plus was tired out from no sleep (had planned an early night) - just had to cope with it.

Not posted for a while and haven't had time to catch up everyones news so hope everyone is ok will have a read through later though get up to speed.

Have just had a nice new drive laid so i don't have to fight for parking space on the road anymore or have to worry about which child to carry accross the road to the house first.

Not going back to work now till end of ml. Doctor signed me off till the start of my 2 week holiday that i tagged on to the start of my matty leave. Am now trying to get the house tidy without over doing things and throwing my back out. Am now feeling supprisingly more relaxed though.

DH has booked next week off so we have decided to pop down the coast for a few days.

We are using a crib, will probably put it up myself, and the cot when it comes down out of the loft. DH is ok at DIY but if i wait for him to do it i will be standing there with a babe in arms shouting at him to get on with the bloody job so that i can out baba to bed!!!!!

Have been given a lovely pram which saves me from worrying about how dd is going to take to the new baby having to use her pushchair/travelsystem, also means that she is going to have to get the hang of walking eveywhere without moaning. Try to take her to the end of the road and she cries non stop that her legs hurt.

It's quite cloudy here today and there is a lovely breeze maybe i will actually get some sleep tonight.
