Welcome to the March Preggos. Here's hoping we see nearly 1000 posts before anyone pops!

Sariska - sympathys. I also elected to go to 37 as felt fine both times before. Really regret it now.

At least I don't have a commut eto dealt with - that must really tip it over the edge.
What do you do?

Evitas - remind me what your PhD is on? Have yyou started writing up?

JasHook · 04/02/2010 11:54

Wow, mumbot - and I was thinking "4 weeks to go...hmm, that sounds like a tiny amount of time.."!!

Thanks to all who have agreed that "me" time is the way forward. Now I just have to restrain myself from trying to do hugely practical things at home and think of some entirely pointless but enjoyable things to do. Oh, and to stop doing chores that rightfully belong to my DH just because I'm at home all day and he's not

I've finished Unseen Academicals now. I do love Terry Pratchett. Good thought about the labour bag though - must shove in something lengthy to read (I'm an inveterate speed-reader).

To all of you still commuting and/or working, you're all saints and you shall have your reward in a short, easy labour! (fingers crossed)

Quick post from sickbed where ive been since monday! Stinking cold-again-cant breathe or sleep-joy! Mumbot-wow 2 weeks! Shroomer-our hospital seems pants.major issue getting blood group wrong! Made me check my notes-had a visit to eau as hadnt felt baby move.think hes wiped out by my cold! Anyway, when i read notes mwife has written that head down and fundus equals weeks gestation. How the hell would she know-never laid hands on tummy never mind measured fundus! Not impressed with their ability to lie or get it wrong! Enough of my rant-back to rest my head! X

scooby26 · 04/02/2010 12:25

Scoobs Ah nuts - don't get Living......

OP posts:
Sariska · 04/02/2010 12:29

BPM - I'm a lawyer. I keep trying to wind down and finish up a few things so I can leave them in a decent-ish state.....oh, and write a handover note - and I keep being asked to do new stuff. "Just take a quick look...." "Won't take long...." "Do you have time to..." are phrases that are bouncing off the inside of my head right now. Still, I am lucky in that I work only four days a week, one of which is from home, and am essentially on fixed hours. A couple of weeks' ago, one of my colleagues, expecting her first baby, was not so lucky and after a stint of pulling 12 hour days she gave birth a week before she even started her maternity leave.

Scooby - Poor you. Sounds miserable. Hope you feel better soon.

evitas · 04/02/2010 12:37

BPF - I'm a landscape architect and my PhD looks at the way immigrants use outdoor spaces (a mixture between LA and environmental psychology and a bit of sociology). Yes, I'm writing up, a few chapters are done and I should be working on my methodology chapter... but I haven't done much, honestly.

74slackbladder · 04/02/2010 12:48

a few days away from t'interweb and i am lost. i have missed too much to catch up with that is happening wiht everyone, so please excuse my ignorance.

I hope everyone is coping ok ...

not much to report from here. still exhuasted, and generally miserable!

next week sees the start of ds1 being at home with me 3 days, so am actively researching tumbletots, softplay, playgroups etc to keep him amused.

had a trip to the office earlier in the week to clear out my crap highly important papers in my desk. the round trip there made be convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that i did the right thing getting signed off work.

anyway. all from me. waves to everyone.

hecklephone · 04/02/2010 13:04

All this talk of C-sections and mucus plugs -I can't believe some of us will have BABIES in TWO WEEKS! It's exciting!

Check you out evitas! Your job sounds cool. It's interesting finding out what some of us 'do' work-wise. It's funny, in RL asking about someone's job is one of the first questions you put to someone - yet we've all been so focussed on pregnancy and babies it's almost irrelevant! But I like that too - because sometimes that's all you want to concentrate on anyway!

scooby and lisba - I'm with you on the breathlessness thing. My chest feels so tight today and I know I should probably practice some yoga breathing or something to try and open my lungs, but even that feels like it'd be too much effort. Don't know if it's a side-effect of being ill too, or just a late-pregnancy thing that I would get anyway.

Couple of things I meant to remark on AGES ago:

Pacific really glad the biopsy/blood test thingy went ok and fingers firmly crossed that all will be well.

Arcadie - hot mama in the bridesmaid's dress!! Loved the pic I saw on FB - you looked really beautiful. I'm glad all went well with the wedding, bumps and pox notwithstanding!

Manda hope you're feeling a bit more chipper these days. I guess it's natural to feel a bit overwhelmed still by it all - even 8 months or so down the line, and regardless of aches, pains or illnesses. I hope you get your 'joie de vivre' back soon.

I'm still feeling pretty poorly, but my Mum's still here to help out and I'm getting lots of rest. She's been helping wash clothes etc for the baby and doing some of the sorting and tidying I probably would be doing if I wasn't so blimmin' knackered with this virus. Poor DH is getting that look like "how much longer do I have to put up with my MIL?" but TBH she's being a real help to me so I think he'll just have to put up with her in the meantime! I feel like I probably need her more now than I will after the baby comes.

Got more checks next week - ENT clinic to check out my face, hearing on Monday and now an ante-natal clinic check on Tuesday. Apparently when you're taking steroids they like to keep an eye on blood sugar levels. I just really hope all this is not affecting DD2 in any way, so any assurances they can give is fine by me.

Enough blathering, I'd better go and do more internet shopping put my feet up again.

Take care all.

ilovegreenbeans · 04/02/2010 14:01

I'm having such a better day today- I finally slept well last night!!!
After about a week of SPD returning and having aching hips/legs/pelvis all night, I finally dragged out the Aerobed, inflated it not too full and slept like a baby! (And DD finally slept through too after cutting teeth all this week!) Feel like a new woman

Many, many sympathies to all who did not have a good night's sleep. Really and truly.

This second baby is not listening to the rules either- 3/5 engaged yesterday! I knew it must be as have been feeling less uncomfortable rib end and more uncomfortable fanjo end Come on baby!

Must go. DD is napping and I have a bunch of jobs to do before she wakes.

DrSkidaddle · 04/02/2010 16:39

wow mumbot - how exciting yet also scary. At least you know they are aware of the position of your placenta and will do everything to make sure the delivery is a safe on. And it must be great to already know his birthday, and be able to plan everything.

evitas - I started writing up my PhD when pg with DS, and tbh got nothing done as I was so distracted by baby thoughts! However once I was back from maternity leave I was able to really focus and got it written pretty quickly - hopefully you will be the same!

caitni - poor you - can't believe what long hours you are doing! Only one more day to go

heckle - glad your mum is looking after you My DH wouldn;t appreciate his MIL staying for too long either but you need to be looked after so he will have to lump it!

scooby - poor you with a horrid cold and v. unimpressed with your MW!

DrSkidaddle · 04/02/2010 17:14

BTW does anyone else find themselves hanging out more in 'Childbirth' and less in 'Pregnancy'? Ooooh we're nearly there......!

hey all
ha pixie nice but the 8th feb is MONDAY..... yikers!!!! Love it though, can't believe it's going to be some of us doing the childbirth threads and all of that!!
I thought I'd be excited about saying "i'm due next month" but have to admit that actually that feels like quite a long way off in some respects!! especially us end of Marchers....there could well be an April baby amongst us too couldn't there?! Oh the imprecisions of this birthing lark....
mumbot v excited for you!! It's a good time of year to have a baby, DD is 2 in 2 weeks and she's PERFECT my cousin had an EmCS because of an undiagnosed placenta praevia so am glad you have some time to get your head around it all!!
headgirl I think perhaps it's time for another list? Well, more a copy and paste of the old list just so us disorganised ones can remember who's due when?
Ilgb glad you slept well, it's a pretty revitalising feeling isn't it?! I had a horrid moment yesterday as i sat on the sofa with DD and I was falling asleep - she was nowhere near needing a sleep but I figured I could at least bung her in the cot and she'd play for a bit whilst i had a bit of shuteye.... anyway then it occurred to me that you don't get to do that at all when there's more than one do you?! That overwhelming tiredness thing....not sure I'm ready for it all over again...

Right that's me for a bit. DH is away tonight but now DD is in bed and I've sorted the kitchen out a bit, I'm sort of looking forward to an evening of decent TV and mning not to mention the bed to myself!!
sorry if i've missed anything.

MummyElk · 04/02/2010 19:59

this is a nice thread worth watching for anyone beginning to think about post-birth etc....

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2010 21:20

Just saying hello. I am on DS1-psychotherapy-duty: he is still not asleep and intermittently cyring because he is terrified he will die of the plague . Long story how he got that story, but he is just inconsolable.

I am watching "8boys and wanting a girl" and I can barely contain my disgust to be honest, grrrr! But then I would say that...
Might just switch off and eat chocolate instead .

Only shout-out tonight to BPM: wow, 2 weeks to go, how v exciting! You sound up for the CS - a nice calm elCS should be a lovely experience .

I too am working to 38 weeks, what a stupid stoooopid idea that now seems!

mumbot · 04/02/2010 21:41

Thanks everyone for such positive vibes re: imminent arrival of babybot

Feeling much better about everything today and starting to look for nice mummy things to take in to hospital for recovery from c-section. Current thoughts are that big pants, c-section belt and Molton Brown bodywash will do it.

Going to book some beauty treatments just before; bit of waxing, tinting, facial etc as I'll soon have no time or energy to do any of that stuff.

ilgb just reading about your night of wonderful sleep was rewarding in itself, I long for a night like that

pacific I felt the same about that programme, those poor boys, they must feel so insignificant because of the fuss they are making about having a girl

hope you feel better soon heckle

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2010 21:57

Oh my goodness, I got the names confused: so sorry, mumbot !! I hope BMP's baby stays put as long as it want to.

Gah!! >

Arcadie · 04/02/2010 22:02

OK So Puree&Pearls due in 8 days
Mumbot due in 2 weeks.

Sorry Pixie my money's still on Puree making it first!

BlueyDragon · 04/02/2010 22:26

lisba, apparently scrubbing floors is the thing to turn them from back to back. If scrubbing floors isn't your thing (it's not mine!) then kneeling on the floor with your forearms on a birthing ball creates more room for baby to turn. Basically all fours and swaying is supposed to be the idea.

Not sure if baby can disengage once engaged - Pacific, do you know?

mumbot how exciting and scary all at the same time! You sound very calm about it all.

Sariska, big sympathy from here for the "Can you just...?" syndrome. Maybe there's a theory going round that pregnancy somehow warps the space time continuum so that pregnant women actually have more time to do everything [Bluey takes herself off to another corner of the room to look for some sanity].

Spent most of my first day off either in tears, on the phone or working because at 2 p.m. today I get told I need to do some more documentation for the interview tomorrow. Why I couldn't have been told this before I've no idea but having held it together for these last few weeks even though what they're asking isn't that major I just couldn't deal with it. I'd better get the result I want after this!

IWCAS, are you out there and how are you doing? Been thinking of you.

pureeandpearls · 04/02/2010 22:35

Arcadie- had my hair done today so I'm good to go. Had horrific lower backache last night that kept me awake and was convinced that babypearls wasn't going to wait. Have ankles the size of elepphants and had to take my rings off today. Gah- thought I was going to get away with it!!

Waves to all- in the middle of filling in mortgage forms.......must pay attention to DH

Shroomer · 05/02/2010 08:50

Woke up with pins and needles in fingers during the night again. Finally read in my preg book that it's probably Carpal Tunnel Syndrome due to swelling fingers. All makes sense now.

A question for y'all: the NCT midwife showed us how to put the baby to bed - she used a top sheet and a cellular blanket. But I've just read in my book (What to Expect: The First Year), that you shouldn't use blankets due to the risk of SIDS. What are you all doing? If I don't use blankets, do I have to buy some of those sleeping bag outfits? How many of those would I need? - could get pricey.

pureeandpearls · 05/02/2010 09:55

Gah- carpal tunnel sucks, but at least it's fairly late on.....

With DD I used a swaddling cloth (not one of those shaped ones, but a lovely flannel one that is now her blankie!) with a blanket over the top if very cold (was May so didn't really do that) until she used a sleeping bag (or zippy bag as we call them) and I plan on doing the same again (not least because I bought merrino zippy bags and want to get the use from them. They aren't cheap but TOTALLY worth the money.)
