woowa - I know the feeling.

Passes a slice of toast with nutella.

I feel like the baby is never going to come - nothing is happening, at all. I don't even have any more BH. I so want to cuddle my baby.

Girls, I too know that feeling. I want to meet this little one soo much and be a Mum! Especially after all those 'false' signals I have had.

binzle · 27/01/2010 12:56

massive congrats to IC and welcome to the world to Rosie Ines

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 27/01/2010 13:21

I second that binzle.

I'm going to try and spend the afternoon getting some work done on the baby's room. Not sure how good an idea that is but it needs doing. 1 week today I'll be 37 weeks- full term!!

Don't feel like I'm having a baby though so worrying a bit. Going to keep hanging around here until it sinks in. I feel like I've got about another 3 months to go and it's not setting in that I'm nearly due and within 6 weeks at most I'll have a baby. Does anyone else feel this way?

mawbroon · 27/01/2010 13:57

Wow! congratulions IC. And welcome to Rosie Ines. Give us a shout if you need any breastfeeding help.

Good luck to mamloco and clappedout for the next couple of days!

I was at the fracture clinic yesterday and got some good news. I was expecting to get my stitches out and then back into the same type of cast. But, turns out I am healing really well, and although I am back in a cast, they have set my foot flat and I am allowed to weight bear. It is more difficult psychologically than it is physically! I find it hard to believe that my foot isn't going to fall off!!! So, I am still on crutches, but at least I can stand on two feet now which means I am able to do a lot more. The consultant said that normally she would keep me in this cast for 4 weeks which would be cutting it very fine at 39+2, so I am going back on 16th feb and if all is well, then I will get a removable boot which will make life a lot easier I think.

A nice plus to all this, although trivial is that I weighed myself yesterday at MILs. We don't have scales, so I weigh myself at hers and haven't done it since Christmas time. I managed to stand on one leg on the scale, and nearly fainted to see that I was the same weight as a month ago. That means that I have lost weight equivelant to the weight of my cast and shoe, plus 4wks baby growth. I am a full 10kgs lighter than I was at term with ds My total weight gain is only around 7kgs!! I guess I have been eating less because I have been in so much pain, plus almost 24hrs fasting, and also I guess the crutches are pretty strenuous too. Not that I go very far on them though...

I went with MIL to get ds from nursery this morning and they were all full of 'oh you poor thing' and 'what a nightmare' etc. I guess they probably don't really know what to say, but I am feeling so positive about it all that it is a bit . But, I guess it's exactly the kind of thing I would say to somebody because I wouldn't know what else to say! It's just that I got over the 'poor me' stage ages ago.

Hope you are all hanging in there.

fiziwizzle · 27/01/2010 14:34

Great news on the ankle mawbroon! Good luck with walking on that foot. I'm rather at your 7kg weight gain (just over a stone?) but of course not at the circumstances... and mine really is mostly down to eating loads of cake and chocolate, so I can't really bemoan it too much.

In fact did someone mention cake...? I'm with you on that one, am baking like a mad thing 'for the midwives' ahem, funny how they disappear so quickly when I'm at home all day...

Flying I think as long as you're not waking up breathless or in pain then sleeping on your back can't be that bad. Sometimes I find it fine, sometimes it hurts so then I turn over. And lie awake for an hour, or two...

bishbosh I so sympathise on the lack of sleep. Do eat a cake . I'm seeing a homeopath and healer next week to try to help with sleeplessness. If I haven't had the baby by then... It's expensive, and who knows whether it'll have any effect, but I figure an hour and a half being 'healed' can't hurt in any case.

Totally I don't feel as if I'm having a baby either and I'm 38+3! I suppose I will believe it when I go into labour, or when s/he is in my arms...

Right, off to do housework, dull dull dull.

woowa · 27/01/2010 14:45

Housework. Bah to it. And the car which needs hoovering before I'd let a dog in it,let alone a small vulnerable baby. I'm waiting til the sun comes out to do that job. Not likely in january is it!?

Just been to MW for 38 week check, and she noticed I'm booked in to see consultant again at 40+1 - she explained that because I was a high risk pregnancy, they will want to induce me at 40 weeks and not wait til 42 which is the standard.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

There I was thinking it could be more than 4 weeks, when it'll be only 2 and a bit at the most. So, less crying over others's babies now and on to hyperventilating at the panic.

Will eat cake...

Who said PG women have mood swings?

Great news Mawbroon. Also envy the weight loss. I'm up to 2 stone extra, but i put it down to heavy shoes...

hmmm, realised I haven't told DH about the induction - spose I'd better since you all know.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 27/01/2010 15:02

What cake is everyone having? I'm going out for some specially now as this subliminal cake advertising on this thread is too intense!!

I'm thinking chocolate or cream and coconut. But if anyone has a better suggestion, I will take it.

woowa · 27/01/2010 15:17

how about a fudge-topped custard-filled donut from Greggs? Oh no, now I want one and I don't think there is anything in the house at all which will substitute for one. I did eat a WHOLE LARGE bag of maltesers in bed last night, washed down with a glass of milk. so perhaps a donut so soon would be harmful.

sunnybump · 27/01/2010 15:34

Great news about your ankle Mawbroon, and so glad it's given you a lift. Good luck vibes winging their way to Clappedout and Mamaloco for today and tomorrow!

Go on then Panninied,I'm not fussy, any kind of cake. Maybe carrot or apple and then if I eat enough I can count it as one of my 5 a day. Woowa, maltesers from yesterday can't be carried over to today surely I go by a clean slate every day policy!

Imaculadas hubby's blog post was adorable, and what a sweetie little Rosie is. It's getting very real now.

Was at the hospital to see the Obs today and it seems likely I will still be able to use a pool for labour/birth which is great. I've only been told 'hopefully' so far so waiting on a phone call so I can have my birth plan meeting - a little late @ 37 weeks but hey ho - DH only just got to the church before me when we got married!

Need a nap now!

AbsB · 27/01/2010 16:17

Oooh CAKE! I want cake too.. but there's nothing in the house like it... oh but there are chocolate macadamia nut cookies!

woowa I have the same problem with my car. It is DISGUSTING and I keep trying to persuade DP to take it to the garage to get it cleaned - I think he's waiting til the last minute as the dogs are bound to roll in shit the moment he does it! I can't imagine LO's first car journey is going to be in that smelly heap (I love that car but lately we've rather abused it1)

Well done Mawbroon that is good news about your ankle... let's not even talk about the weight...

binzle · 27/01/2010 18:06

ooooh, really want crispy creme doughnuts now......

Mawbroon - great news about the ankle. The sooner they can get you into a walker boot the better. Don't worry, your foot won't fall off, you've got metalwork holding it all together!

Flying - the lying on your back thing is to do with a condition that can compress vital arteries when in that position. It's fairly uncommon and if you don't get breathless or numbness in your legs when lying on your back you should be fine. The recommneded position is lying on your left, but as we all know, any sustained position gets uncomfortable when you're heavily pregnant!

I finish work on Friday, then it's a week or two of getting everything ready (fingers crossed the baby doesn't come early!).

bethylou · 27/01/2010 20:00

Sunnybump - just don't pin all your hopes on the water. I went in for monitoring on a Saturday last time (2 days before I went into labour). I asked whether I'd be able to labour in the water even though I would have a canular in my arm for antibiotics. I was told yes but when I went in on the Monday in labour, it was a different team leader on and they said no which didn't get me off to a good start. I obviously hope you get what you want, but don't want you to get your hopes up toooo much at this stage.

Today I have scrubbed the kitchen floor on my hands and knees for an hour (and baby is letting me know that I have overdone it!), had an inbuilt cupboard finally put in (after waiting four months, the shelf is still at the wrong bloody height!!)and taken delviery of our double buggy so really getting further now. If I could just get off MN, I could even write up the birth plan!! 37 weeks today so defnintely time to finalise the 'plans'!!

chinook · 27/01/2010 20:23

bethylou thanks for remembering about my dodgy liver. I think all my internal organs were scanned last week and I had every blood test under the sun, and everyone seems fairly sure I do not have cholestasis. At one point I had glucose in my urine so had GTT tests too. The good news is that I have now been signed back over to my community midwife, don't have to go to the hospital again and I may get to go in the birthing pool after all. I am a very relieved girl.

So, so of you all with your talk of cake. Does it not give you heartburn? I can manage a fig roll or slice of malt loaf (mmmmm) but anything more lardy than that has me reaching for the gaviscon.

Nikki87 · 27/01/2010 21:47

congrat IC Rosie is gorgeous!!

fizi i did want an earlish baby, but since being in the hospital, i've decided I'd like him to stay in there ay least another week, give me a few more days to get my head around the fact I'll soon be a fully fledged mummy i was a little worried about been give codine though, I used to work in a GP's and my mum usedto work in pharamcy, so I'm always nervous about taking medication after seeing 1st hand experience what it can sometime do, but then i figured its given me a few hours extra sleep, and not in as much pain, plus its only going to be a few a day, so might as well

flyingcloud i think its ok to sleep on your back as long as you're propped up by a few pillows, i found i was waking up on my back so asked the MW who said its there was a problem, my body wouldn't be moving me in my sleep

mawbroon thats great news, lets hope babi stays in until cast is off, even if its only the day after, lol!

clappedout hope today went ok :D

mamaloco good luck for tomorrow, just think, soon you'll be holding your little baby :D

hope everyone else is ok, sorry if i've missed anyone important!

mawbroon · 27/01/2010 22:10

flyingcloud - i think the lying on your back thing is fine. What are you supposed to do if you do it in your sleep!!?

When I was in hospital, my blood pressure dropped pretty low and I felt sick and dizzy and clammy. I am fairly sure that this was from lying on my back, however I had been doing it for 24 hours following my surgery before it caused any problem (I couldn't lie on my side because my leg was too sore). It resolved itself pretty quickly once they propped me up on my side.

When I was pg with ds, lying on my back was the only way I could be comfortable, and it didn't do any harm.

comeonbishbosh · 27/01/2010 22:40

I have baked large marmalade CAKE. a bit difficult doing the creaming beating thing with a bump but much more satisfying than comparable efforts like washing up! And the builders have left and that's one big thing ticked off our list so guess it was worth having the house full of the sound of hammering for a day.

Tomorrow, my sister and her 1 year old twins arrive for a couple of days. And I have lots of random questions to ask her and small tasks which I'm hoping she can help me with. Should get me in the baby mood! Though must be careful to contain expectations... I'm sure our newborn will be lovely but not quite the charming playfulness and robustness of my 1 year old nieces.

Looking forward to hearing good news from all our early bird mums!

woowa · 27/01/2010 23:37

can't believe I forgot about Krispy Kreme!! Until 18 months ago we lived about a mile from the enfield factory, and chocolate covered, custard filled were the best (along with the free glazed ones, hot). Greggs not the same. You're right shiregirl

And thanks, sunnybump for the malteser reassurance. Couldn't repeat it tonight, but i did have a big bowl of real greek yoghurt with honey. Nice and lardy (and yoghurt good for acid). This all followed a "come out now" curry. I know i'm not due for 2 weeks, but there's no harm in trying. have had serious BH since...

Wasn't someone being induced today? yes - clappedout. Hope all's well, looking forward to hearing...

sunnybump my hopes are high too for water, but when the MW said if i'm chemically induced at 40weeks i wouldn't be allowed, my hope level went down a tad. Let's wait and see. We can always sit in the bath!

FluffyCoo · 28/01/2010 00:11

MMM... all this talk of cake and filthy doughnuts is making me hungry - and i just scoffed a fat pizza with DH (we're celebrating his new job so I figure I'm allowed!)

Had lunch with the NCT gals today (there was cake) and got a cuddle with the first arrival - tiny week-old baby boy! He is soooo cute and so chilled out (hope my LO was taking notes!!) I was looking at him thinking, wow, I have one of those inside me... how does that work?! It's just so mind-blowing sometimes!

LO has been very busy this evening, feels like he/she is "burrowing" into my pelvis - really odd sensation! Bit sore! Anyone else get that?!

flyingcloud I always end up on my back too - just prop myself up on pillows to be on the safe side - it's the only position where I can alleviate the rib flare enough to sleep! Better that than no shut-eye at all I reckon...

Mawbroon so glad to hear you ankle is mending nicely and that you're feeling about it all!

sunnybump · 28/01/2010 00:21

Yep Bethylou, I think you're right to advise caution. The Obstetrician team made lots of placating noises at me today but didn't actually do what they said they would and phone me back with some definite answers this afternoon. DH is pretty annoyed..., I am keeping my blood pressure down! At this rate I'll be going in to labour before anything gets sorted- good job I've got the yoga breathing exercises as a constant to focus on :D

Woowa I think they're onto that idea at the midwife unit I might get to go to. Pool rooms come with bathrooms with a big bath. If you get a room without a pool you get a walk in shower. I did wonder at the time but now it seems obvious they do it that way on purpose. Still pretty good though, and lovely and clean which was reassuring. Now they definitely can't take my tens or natal hypnotherapy techniques away so that's good.

Got a couple of bravado nursing bras delivered today, one in normal cup and one in plus - the ones which fit a variety of sizes. They seem comfy enough to get me through the first few days anyway, and the poppers are like a novelty toy. DH unimpressed!

Been having much stronger braxton hicks this evening too, just a wee taste of things to come!

Chinook, yes cake gives me indigestion, but so does everything, including if I wake up thirsty in the night for a drink of water. So I just swig back the Gaviscon as needed. My GP said that was fine. I am now desensitised to the taste and texture too which I never thought would happen.

Keep well everyone
