Congratulations sockmonkey - guess you must have decided to wake DH up at some point yesterday morning then! Look forward to hearing the full story.

My dd is poorly today too. There has been an case of parvovirus at her preschool, so I'm really hoping it's not that. Can't blame selfish parents for this one though as you are infectious from 4 up to 14 days before you have any symptoms, so, if that is what dd has, she'll have been in pre-school being infectious with it. Will just have to wait and see if she gets red cheeks in the next few days.

Off to check out effect of parvovirus on newborns...

whensmydayoff · 28/01/2010 19:17

Hi, sorry for moan earlier, it's all ive ever done on this post since poor wee Olivia was born - not her fault.

Crumpette and CTFN What is post natal thread ive not seen it?

I have ordered a Ergo Baby Carrier which arrives on Monday. My friend let me have a shot of hers the other day and it keeps Olivia's back dead straight which is key.

Monday can't come soon enough. Was £120 including infant carrier so praying she likes it!

I actually ended up having a nice day with her.

I had arranged to meet two girls I met at Aqua natal with their new babies for lunch at one of their houses today but cancelled this morning.
TBH I didnt have the confidence to go with Evan and Olivia. I imagined he would play up because he'd be bored (they are first time mums) without other kids and I thought Olivia would scream constantly.

DH took over and phoned his mum to have Evan for lunch and forced me to phone back and say I was coming after all.

Was glad he did as it took my mind off everything and Olivia was actually brilliant. She slept in car seat most of the time and I was able to relax for a bit.

How are things crumpette, is DP any better and you any closer to a name for baby Crumpette?

devotion · 28/01/2010 19:26

Biccy - that just worried me - slapped cheek syndrome.

checked the nhs website out about it. dont think she has that.

she did have a cold for a few days this week and that is a symptom but vomiting was not listed as a symptom.

Plus the only time her cheeks are red is just after she vomits with the pressure of leaning forward.??

Biccy · 28/01/2010 20:49

Oh sorry devotion I didn't mean to scare you . I'm only thinking of it because there was a known case at dd's preschool, and she has 'mild flu like symptoms', i.e. cold & slight fever & fatigue. It could just as easily just be a bad cold, I didn't mean to put it into your mind re your dd. I think I read that more than 60% of adults will be immune anyway having had it as children, of those who aren't only 10% who come into contact as adults will get it. I spoke to one of my midwives, who checked her book, and she said with pregnancy it's only a worry prior to 20 weeks as it can cause miscarriage, but she was very reassuring that there's nothing to worry about at our stage of pregnancy.

maygirl · 28/01/2010 21:15

We have an ergo WMDO, I didn't use the infant insert much as got it when DS older, but it's been great, he can still go in it now on his dad's back at 3.5 yrs. I'm glad you got out and about with Olivia.

Had some acupuncture today, was quite nice but very strange and tingly. It made the baby really active at first. She has told me to keep pressing the points at home. There's one between thumb and first finger that helps with descent, and ankle ones for the cervix. Also had some put in around the knees. As 40 weeks already she said she'd do a more intense session than would usually for a first treatment, if I could tolerate it! Felt the baby shift down and during my consultant appointment 1.5 hrs later found out he/she is now 3/5th engaged and in a good position The appointment was to book ELCS for 42 weeks, but they have no slots, so have gone on a waiting list!

Hope poorly toddlers recover quickly, and congrats to more new mums!

devotion · 28/01/2010 21:29

Biccy - dont worry, it good to be told about these things.

I remember dd1 had it and you're right, read up on the dangers and it only really talked about before 20 weeks.

Its not that anyway, its def a little tummy bug. She has been sick five times this evening and since the last time ate a few mouthfuls of dried toast and that has stayed down. I have layered her bed with pampers disposable bed mats and towels but fingers crossed she gets to the morning without getting sick and that maybe the end of it. dd1 vomited three times last month and then nothing so fingers crossed she is done with the sick part

maygirl - oooh sounds good, never had accupuncture, is it relaxing?

maygirl · 28/01/2010 22:01

It was quite relaxing to lie propped up with pillows and chat pregnancy and acupuncture with the lovely therapist devotion, but it's a bit ouchy when she twiddles the needles, either ached or sent a little electric shock. I quite enjoyed it though, and felt like it was doing good. I think I was pretty unresponsive, she said she couldn't have been so intense with alot of her clients, they would have been off the couch! Going for more next week if no baby! Hope DD has a peaceful night and sleeps it off.

Mama2b5 · 28/01/2010 23:51

WMDO- glad you got out and enjoyed it!Olivia and the reflux must be a nightmare i cant imagine how YOU must be feeling!hope she likes the sling!
well done MamaL - and welcome Luther & Sockm - LIL dinky Naomi.

Awake early, about to get up soon to get ready to head in for "elcs mark 2 (this time it's real)"

v nervous but will be glad when it's over.

maygirl jeepers can't believe you are on a waiting list. Hope you are ok with that, and really hoping it will turn out not to matter sending you all my vbac thoughts. They didn't work for me, but I think if I waited long enough it would happen. 42 weeks now, so time for this to be over.

Fibilou · 29/01/2010 07:37

Another morning here. I am likely to kill my husband who is requiring continual entertainment (see AIBU thread) today so may never return

Biccy · 29/01/2010 08:01

All the best skidoodle! Exciting that you are going to meet a new person soon.

what have you got planned for the day fibi? I'm going to try and keep really busy and my aim for today is to forget I'm pregnant!

WMDO, sorry you're having such a hard time, hope the sling gives you some respite.

Devotion, how was the night? I'm hoping your dd wasn't sick again. I just hate it when they're sick and sick at night is just the pits. I feel so awful for her, just wish I could do the sick thing for her rather than watch her go through it. My dd still sounds like typhoid Mary, but she got a good night's sleep (once she'd moved into our bed at about 9pm of course...) and seems much more herself today, so, I'm thinking just a cold and not slapped cheek - think she'd feel poorlier for longer with that?

Biccy · 29/01/2010 08:10

Sorry fibi, should have read your AIBU first... then I would have known that suggestions for 'keeping busy' would not be welcome. Oops. Didnt' realise you've had DH around for the last week. I think you should try telling him that having him around is making you tense, and being tense delays labour, and that you need your space and some time alone, and then maybe baby will decide to make an appearance - sort of make it sound like going to work would be a really helpful thing? Erm, could you say that seeing his annual leave dribble away when you don't need help is adding to your tension and that you could relax so much more if you knew that he had some time saved up that you could call upon later? I think it's often when the baby is a few weeks old that it suddenly hits the mother and that's when you could do with him having some time up his sleeve.

Fibilou · 29/01/2010 08:19

The trouble is, Biccy, I've kept so busy for my maternity leave so far that I'm really schlepping around for things to do now. All the little bits and bobs I can still potter along with are things that are home-based and do not require any assistance.
Unfortunately the only thing DH can think of to entertain himself without my input is watching DVDs - and as I need the computer to do my bits and bobs this leads to arguments as we don't have a TV.

I could find plenty of things for him to do, the main issue is that he just doesn't want to. What he wants to do is go out and that always involves spending money which we just don't have at the moment.

Fibilou · 29/01/2010 08:20

Anything after your sweep, Devo ?

Partyofsixsoontobeseven · 29/01/2010 09:28

Morning all.

Hope everyone is ok, wmdo sounds very stressful hope your ok. Erin has been sick every time I feed her until yesterday and I was stressed after two days, so I feel for you.

Birth story

Tuesday 26 - 40+10 due to go to hospital to discuss options, induction on thursday 28th.

Tues 26th 2am - woke up with stitch like pain on right side, thought nothing of it went back to sleep. Kept waking me every twenty mins or so. Got up at 6am, told dh thought this was it and went downstairs, sorted breakfasts and packed lunches for other dcs. Everyone up and out for 8am, dropped 2 lo at mums and headed for hosp.

9.15 walking to ward had 2 really strong cont which made me cry (wimp) thought it was immenent. Got on MLU pains every 10 mins, checked 1-2cms OMG. mw to come back and review in 4 hours. sister arrived so good to go.

2pm checked 4cms -said I could use pool now. Immediately after checked had cont which didn't go for about two mins, everyone in a bit of a panic but managed to get to pool room.

4pm got in pool - the best feeling in the world. mw bit concerned baby no5 not just flying out, so examined me in pool, last cm on cervix being stubborn so told to breath through cont and not push (IS SHE HAVING A LAUGH) manged to breath through next 3/4 but was starting to lose it. (could see dh in corner with head in hands - bless him but not helping.) Checking baby every 5 mins and even though was moving down and head right there NOTHING.

5pm baby heart rate v. high for 3 consecutive measures so had to get out of pool immediately (dh now nearly passed out in corner) OMG I am going to die with the pain/pressure but I am not to push (well do something so i can push you stupid woman) 'don't lose it now susan' if I could have got up I would have killed her, as lovely as she was. Babys heart rate back to normal.

Examined me and she pushed cervix over babys head, and I have to say through out it all that was the worse moment EVER! Then she says my waters are still intact and very tight over babys head, so she pops my water and one enormous push, head out, one more and baby arrives at 6.22pm. 'what it is, what is it?' Its a girl. Said to dh I AM SOOOOOOOOOO DONE ITS NOT TO BE WE ARE NOT DESTINED TO HAVE A BOY. No stitches or grazes, placenta 10mins later. left alone to have baby snuggles.

8.30pm everyone gone home, had bath, in nice clean bed just staring at my beautiful little girl.

Turns out baby was slightly turned so not pushing on cervix effectively enough for the last little bit, and mw said I have very strong membranes, have had to have them all popped.

Bit of a nightmare on weds, so wanted to get home, but short staffed so no one to do discharge and had listen to poor girl giving birth next door from 4am - still at it when I finally left at 5pm. but on the whole a very positive experience hospital was great, mws and students all lovely.

Ater two days of bringing up birth fluid, and having a bit of a fright yesterday when she couldn't get her breath whilst being sick, her lips went blue, she now seems fine. feeding every 4 hours and sleeping inbetween. I have been having a few after pains and my spd is improving so on the whole we are a happy little BIG family.

lol biccy I will change my name to Party of seven.

Told dh when I have next one I'm having an epidural!! How easily we forget, 60hrs later and I'm having another, oh well i suppose i should sleep while she is, happy birthing vibes to anyone that needs them, will check back later.

devotion · 29/01/2010 11:05
