oh and flyingma! congratulations to you too!!

quirkychick · 18/01/2010 12:50

Thank you everybody, yes we are home. She fed really well this morning but is very sleepy now. The hospital were fantastic and I have lots of family and friends with lots of support here too.

We will have a check up with the cardiologist but the heart defect is very minor. She had an apgar of 9 and weighed much more than dd. Also she seems a very easy baby so far.

There is lots of information to take in but I feel generally very positive and happy to have my baby here. I will try to catch up properly later.

skidoodle · 18/01/2010 13:17

Congratulations quirkychick and jasmeeen*

qc that is really horrendous about your CS. Maybe it's because I am looking at having one myself, but it really hit home. You seem all fine about it now, but it sounds very traumatic, so I hope you are OK. I suppose you have a lots on your hands now with new baby and lots to figure out with Down's dx, but don't forget that you have been through something tough yourself and will need time to recover from that.

So pleased about no surgery for quirkybabe, that must be a massive relief.

Biccy & Mama2b - I'm also having twinges and pains, mainly in the evening. I never had anything like this the last time, so really pleased and hoping it's a good sign that we are on for VBAC.

one handed typing warning!

congrats jasmeen, quirky, msvik - i think i covered the other new mummy's last post hopefully.

QC - im glad your DD is healthy. Friends of friends had DS DD in may 09 and she is healthy too and as cute as a button and they are enjoying her loads. Nowadays its not the bad news health wise it used to be. x

thanks everyone for advice/support re reflux

devotion - loads of great advice thanks. going to look into oesteopath now.

She was in so much pain last night and i think she stopped breathing for a bit. We have an apnea alarm now as DS stopped breathing at 2 weeks. refluxers prone to this.

she finally settled 6am and at 7 the alarm sounded - its a sensor mat under the mattress that picks up breathing movements.

i lost it. i jumped up and just started shaking her tummy uncontrlably and screaming. dh pulled me off and picked her up and her arms shot out. i was still shaking an hour later.

had resucitation lessons at hosp with ds - clearly a waste of time with me, i just panicked!!!

i dont want to put her down now, been carrying her everywhere today - she is very happy with this arrangement

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 18/01/2010 13:47

Hi all

Happy Monday to you all

NO news here yet, little mince pie is refusing to venture outside of my womb. Still having loads of pains on and off that come to nothing. DCs very disappointed of no show!!!. dc1 and dc3 are both 19th of a month so hoping its an omen for tomorrow. One can hope.

mistle sent another email from my most used account let me know if you got it last night. cant can I send it to you as well - if ok what address is it.

quirky glad dd is doing ok and didn't need surgery, don't have any experience myself but am happy to listen if you need it.

BIG congratulations to all who have given birth over the last few days, I'm sooo fed up that I haven't really been on here to catch up.

So after weeks of thinking I'll be early -here we are 40+2, no appointmnet till sat and then no clear answers as to what they'll do - if anything

CantThinkofFunnyName · 18/01/2010 13:54

SixMince - email: [email protected]

CantThinkofFunnyName · 18/01/2010 13:59

WMDO - OMG! That must have been horrific. Im not surprised you panicked nor have been able to put her down. Thank goodness you have that alarm. x

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 18/01/2010 13:59

thanks cant I send one now.

Sixmincepiessoontobeseven · 18/01/2010 14:27

cant received email thanks a lot.

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 15:09

Whensmydayoff I have a sensor pad and it only ever went off once when dd was 8mo - I have never moved so fast in my life. She had curled up at the bottom of her cot! I am dreading hearing that beep when dc2 is here but dont think I could sleep without it.

Baby is quiet today but still moving at regular intervals - Just very slow/lazy movements. Anyone else have this towards the end of pregnancy?

I have just realised that I can say 'my baby is due next week'! OMG I am not bothered about labour now though, I just want to get on with it (and want the gas and air!!)

sazlocks · 18/01/2010 15:19

Afternoon all

huge congrats flyingma, jasmeen and mrsvik

Huge congrats also to quirkychick and glad DD heart ok. No experience of downs either but sure you will get good support here and on the wider MN board as you get to grips with what it means for your LO and family.

WMDO - hideous - hope things get better soon for you

waves at everyone else

All grand here - baby feels like its doing loop the loop inside me. Must have appreciated the flapjack I just ate . Wore DS out at soft play this morning so he is having a nap (bliss).

devotion · 18/01/2010 15:46

whensmydayoff - I didnt know that it was common with reflux babies.

this happened to dd about 5 weeks old and we rushed her to a&e, they observed her for hours and checked her over and then said it was a funny episode and that it would not happen again. i could not relax for weeks and kept imagining if it had happened during the night then she would have died. it happened when dh was changing her nappy, she suddenly lost all colour and went floppy. but as soon as i lay her on the change mat and started talking to her and i think i shook her a bit too - know you should not but it was more out fright to see her like that but she responded straight away.

think i may have to get one of those mats if this baby has reflux.

can i ask if both of them were pulled out rather than coming out in their own time iykwim. my osteopath seemed to think dd had it because of the trauma of her birth experience.

BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE NEW MUMMIES!!!
Hope you are all enjoying your little bubba's!

Quirkychick, glad to hear your dd is a strong little girl and that you have a good network of support. I run my own music and movement class and a couple of children with Downs Syndrome use to come to my class and they absolutely loved the movement and songs and particiapted just as well as everyone else. They are both such happy and beautiful children and brought so much joy to my class and to everyone else around them.

I just done a power walk to get things going (well my version) had to stop a few times with twinges. C'mon!!!

whensmydayoff · 18/01/2010 17:56

devotion DS was c section and DD was natural - no pulling required !

I know, I used to think DS had it because he was a CS but there you go.

RIGHT I NEED ALL MNrs OPINIONS HERE....

Olivia has reflux, can't sleep on back for horendous pain from acid reflux. Did sleep slightly on left side, swaddled but doesnt work either. This is all with moses basket tilted 30 degrees.

We have to sit up in bed with her on our chests ALL NIGHT. Advice is 30 mins/1 hour after feed . Olivia can't go down until the whole feed digested (2 hours) then feed due again.

Last night so exhausted I fell into deep sleep with her on my chest and when DH said my name I jumped and she slipped - nearly off me and onto bed, just caught her .
We then had a horrid fright when she stopped breathing with sleep apnea (refluxers can do this).

Here (finally) is the question.....

Ive just discovered if I put her down on her tummy - head to one side, she is sound asleep and happy. Opinions? I have a sleep apnea alarm that sounds if she were to stop breathing but obviously I dont want this to happen at all. I just think its just as dangerous on your back with apnea is it not?
Has anyone got stories of abies that have died from sleeping on their tummies. Too late to call health visitor but everybone in my body is praying for sleep tonight and for her not to be distressed all night.

whensmydayoff · 18/01/2010 17:59

First of all - she nearly fell off me and onto floor - not bed. I was right at edge.

second of all - when I say stories of babies dying I don't mean calously - yours, I mean in the papers or through the grapevine

I NEED SLEEP

CantThinkofFunnyName · 18/01/2010 18:12

WMDO - until recently (past 10 yrs or so), the advice was to put babies to sleep on their tummies. My DD1 always slept on her tummy from the moment she could roll. For your sanity, I would recommend you go with it.

devotion · 18/01/2010 18:37

whensmydayoff - i forgot all about mentioning that too. dd2 would not settle on her back and i knew that was the safest position but it didnt make sense to me with her suffering from reflux to be flat on her back so i use to lay her on her side held in placs by rolled up blankets then as soon as she could roll side to side it didnt matter because she could move herself anyway.

My friend has just bought this from Amazon and loves it, see link:

I am going to get one.

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 19:38

WMDO If it works then go for it. I know a few people who put their babies to sleep on their front and were fine. Plus you have the movement sensor pad which would alarm you anyway.

What sensor pad do you have? I have the Angel Care on with the monitor but would like a proper sensor one that is maybe more accurate.

alibobins · 18/01/2010 19:44

wmdo in NICU they said Jacob had reflux and he was placed to sleep on his tummy and when he was in with bronchoilitis they put him to sleep on his tummy when he was struggling they said it would help to regulate his breathing. You've got the sensor so I would say go for it x x

Mama2b5 · 18/01/2010 20:05

Hi all - well was on a mission today last bits for baby! Mothercares - bathset, TK Max - Baby sling and BabiesRus - cot sheets and cute soft blanket, carseat rain cover-sainsbury's body grows - ok breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its just so not fair months of worries and praying all is well have LO and then more concerns and things to deal with its such a long journey and i think being a parent is so rewarding but really so hard, you want them to sleep but worry that they are laying right, not hot/cold,feeding and gaining weight, etc!!!!!!

Im trying to get through these days off LO in me safe and well and then i will tackle the next stage the LO and the world!

May tonight be the night - birthing vibes needed! xx

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 20:12

Mama2b5 I will send you birthing vibes if you send me some! My baby is so engaged right now it is too painful to stand. I am going on a trip to Asda on Thursday because they have a baby event on and want to get some last minutes bits.

Its a year since my Gran today and I so wanted this baby today (morbid I know but it would have been nice)

I have mw tomorrow and am going to beg her for a sweep. Even though I have seen the horror stories I just want this baby out! What do you think my chances are of getting one at 38+4??

Mama2b5 · 18/01/2010 20:18

Why were'nt we made first- who needs men!

We women have so much to cope with and we can multi tasked and just get on! 1 problem and they turn to mushhh!
WMDO - i would do what works for you its all different from 1 LO to the other, text book will always have mixed opinions,I personally dont understand the whole back sleeping when my mums before put us all to sleep on our fronts or sides!!!!! but because of fear we have now doing the back thing. watching my friends baby do that jumping arm stretched thing they wake up crying the "falling dream" i call it!

QC - I know the outpouring of love for your LO cannot be contained and the joy from any child is just a true blessing! we all have things to overcome and it all makes us strong as people, glad to hear no op was needed and your family are all supporting you and i hope it never stops for LO are hard work and we all need support from others ( no Super women awards today) hope you are all resting while bodies recover and feeding patterns are getting established oh boy all that to look forwards to looking at my family im like " wow LO number 5, {baby birth no3} but i know with help and support its going to be fine!!!

Times like this - I do miss my Mummy!
