Mama2moo - birthing vibes x 1000000000000000000000
(holding hands via cyberspace)

ermm the sweep - i guess it depends how nice your MW is who knows if it so simple may asked DH to put on a latex glove and go for DIY sweep tonite!!!!!
DH refusing to give me "some" to bring labour on!

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 20:35

Mama2b5 Birthing vides right back at you, fingers crossed for us both

I have mentioned to dp about us getting labour started ourselves - We are getting on better today so maybe it will be on the cards at the weekend if nothing has happened. Although, it really is the last thing I want at the mo!

DIY sweep - I may get that desperate that I try it myself!! I am hoping I get 'nice' mw tomorrow and will beg her - I have been having contractions on and off for a week now - She has to take pity on me

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 20:36

Birthing vibes that was meant to be!!

sockmonkey · 18/01/2010 20:39

WMDO - another vote for whatever works for you! I think if Olivia is happy on her tummy, and it causes less pain then go for it.

Due date today... still no baby. Boys are very disapointed. It's not my fault

I am walking like john wayne now, pain in pelvis is so much worse today than it has been. School run not much fun.

I am wondering when I will see my midwife/a midwife next. Mine is on holiday so there was no clinic today. Don't know what to do about getting an induction date... not that I want to be induced, it would just be nice to have a date to work to.

whensmydayoff · 18/01/2010 20:39

thanks devotion but she wont sleep on side either. Sorry you had to faff about with link but thanks anyway. x

Oooh alibobins seriously - they do that in hospital anyway ?
So they do that with reflux babies?
Did they advise you do/don't do same? What do you do with Jacob at night?

Funny, when you described going for a walk then ending up carrying him I thought, hmmm sounds like a reluxer but didnt want to presume and say. I hope he is better soon, you've really been through the mill.

That really does make me feel alot more confident about doing it then.

she says still feeling nervous!!

whensmydayoff · 18/01/2010 20:40

Oh and good luck getting 'some' mam2b5 !

Just point out when LO gets here there will be a major dry spell, ha!

somewhathorrified · 18/01/2010 20:48

HI guys, Sorry for the massive delay in getting back here...I've been on about 6 times to let you all know how things are, birth story etc and each time someone decides that he wants attention and hats off to all that can tyoe one handed...i tried but deleted it as was completely indecipherable!

First of all thanks to frao for her birth story...without whom things may have gone reallY bad. SO thanks and thanks too to your mum about when not to push!

I had period pains quite badly at about 4pm the same day I had the show. Got in the bath to see if it might help, it didn't. At about 9pm started to get worse period pain that came and went irratically...I say went, it didn't go, just spasmed worse. At about midnight I started to need a poo, but remembered what Frao's mum had said, so waited to see what happened with contractions. 1-2 am contractions at about 4/5 mins apart, so phoned MW unit, MW arrived at 2.40am, checked me out to find that I was 9cm dilated! However Baby heart beat was dropping during contractions. At this point my waters still hadn't gone. But relief as MW said I could push, it was such a relief to push and really did just feel like I had the worst constipation and the worst period at the same time...uncomfortable as hell, but wouldn't call it exceptionally painful or anything. At about 4am babies heart beat wasn't recovering well after contractions and by about 4.30 am his heart beat was pretty constantly around 70bpm! So ambulance was called as it was decided he needed to be out of me asap...I was so scared that I was going to lose him. Ambulance arrives and I was whisked out into the street wearing nothing but a t-shirt, a pair of socks and a tens machine, thanks god it was early morning as I was flashing the world my bare butt!

Ambulance journey was a nightmare. Up until this point I'd been lolled over my birth ball, now I was forced to lie down on my side with one leg braced against the MW's shoulder, that was a whole new level of discomfort! Got to hospital, door opened, nurse got in..an OMG pain as she cut me, Now that hurt! But got the job done as one small push and baby was out! I have vague memories of been shown him before he was whisked off to resuscitation (sp?), which luckily I didn't know about until later. I was taken off to be seen to in a complete state of shock, I've never shaken like that before! Placenta came out no problem (should hope so after the 2" cut they made). DH arrivd at hospiatl just in time to see the placenta delivered. About 20 mins after getting to the hospital I finally got to meet my beautiful baby (after the hospital staff had finished warming him up under heat lamp). They wouldn't us leave the hospital until 7pm though as his core body temp was still abit low, so he spent most of the day in an incubator.

All home now and all's well, thanks to the MW team. As it turned out the reason for the hospital was because the MW's don't carry the rescusitation kit with them, although the ambulance does (my notes say they did tachie stimulation)...He would have needed the hospital for the warming lamps and incubator anyway. I just wanted to let those still expecting, that even when things don't go according to plan, it doesn't necessarily mean it's that bad and that we have some great MW's, paramedics and hospital staff in this country who are great and remain calm no matter what.

whensmydayoff · 18/01/2010 21:00

Oh congrats somewhat. Very dramatic though, well done you.

Just curious - what did Frao's mum say about not pushing?

mama2moo · 18/01/2010 21:05

Congratulations somewhat I hope all is ok now and you are recovering well

Im curious as well to see what Frao's mum said...

alibobins · 18/01/2010 21:23

somewhat congratulations what a birth story glad you are home x x

wmdo Jacob sleeps propped up at night to help his cough but in the day it depends how he settles if he's grunting and gulping I will put him on tummy. The only thing the nurse said to me about puttin him on his tummy at home was that they monitor babies in the hospital.

It doesn't seem to bother him too much but he does spend alot of time gulping and sometimes you can smell the acid on his breath x x

alibobins · 18/01/2010 21:25

Oh I nearly forgot loads of birthing vibes being sent to ladies waiting

devotion · 18/01/2010 22:17

somewhathorrified - wow, great story and you sound like you handled it really well too.

you really do have to prepare yourself for anything when planning the birth.

i'm planning a hb too and my midwife said she will bring oxygen and suction for the baby, isnt that the resusitation kit or is that something different. maybe different in differnt parts, i'm in surrey?

anyway, he is here and you are home and safe.

enjoy and congratulations!!!!

x

Ps. birth vibes to all, lots of aches, pains and period type ones here but nothing going on... come baby come baby come baby come

showmethemummy · 18/01/2010 22:30

hi all,
congratulations to all mummies having given birth since last post; esp to flyingma ,ampster and somewhat. wmdo so sorry to hear about the reflux thing; small consolation that at least you've had experience of it before and so might be better prepared to tackle it??... really sorry, and hope you find solutions that work for you.

news here is that baby ada joy put in her appearance on 16.1.10 at 11:50pm; weighing 3.725kgs (8lb2).

unfortunately this was by far the worst of my three labours; but thankfully the final outcome is healthy baby, and - I think very much due to one MW's wonderful efforts- a relatively unscathed mother. Am feeling rather traumatised by the whole thing, and want to think about what, if anything would post about details... sorry hope that's not irritatingly cagey or presumptious.

londonlottie you have 2 babies, i salute all mummies of twins!!

Congratulations showmethemummy, Lovely name too. sorry to hear the birth was traumatic though. Did it end up natural or CS?

LISTEN UP PEOPLE......

Briefly incase you havent read....Olivia - baby with reflux/colic, screams all night in pain. Need to hold her on chest for up to 2 hours after every feed then IF she settles shes up anywhere between 20 mins - 1 hour later for feed. Has never gone more than (and not very often) 3 hours between feeds.

Put her on tummy last night......

she went 5 hours between one feed (so 3 hour sleep after settling) then 4 hours between the next - nearly 2 hours sleep there too.

SOD THE GUIDELINES!!! [GRIN]. Happy baby, happy Mummy and Daddy.

Just to note though - we have a breathing moniter on our normal moniter with sensor pad. Also she was rather unsafely on our chests all night and sometimes we'd drift off without meaning to so it is different situation to most - not recommending everyone does this but we are desperate.

Someone asked what alarm we have. It's Tommee Tippee moniter with sensor pad. £110 and probably same idea as Angelcare or whatever the other is.

mama2moo · 19/01/2010 12:28

showmethemummy Congratulations. I love the name. I hope you are recovering well now.

whensmydayoff Thats amazing! I bet you feel great today after some good rest. If my dc has reflux like that I will be doing the same

crumpette · 19/01/2010 12:48

WMDO so so relieved to see your last post! I was going to say, I was put on my tummy to sleep and I am still here and you have a monitor, I'd say with a monitor definitely it should be fine. DD had bad colic for a while and laying her on her tummy really soothed it, so maybe reflux is similar. Hope you got some sleep x

showmethemummy congratulations and hope you are doing OK

somewhat what a birth story hope you're not too sore!

So, today I have taken no painkillers...all is much recovered down below, hurrah!

Health visitor arrived really early with no warning whatsoever which was a bit pants, but she seemed really nice. Said baby felt too hot (heating isn't on and baby is in thin vest and babygro, no blankets etc) but otherwise she wasn't too annoying!

About to brave the outside world with baby carrier. Seems like a massive effort! Hope everyone OK x

Thanks crumpette I have been having more fake contractions that are defo not BH. They just stop though and I can go a day without having another.

Did you have anything like that? I am going to ask anyway, the baby seems to have dropped even more today and my bump looks smaller!

crumpette · 19/01/2010 13:10

I did towards the end in the evenings, this baby wasn't engaged though, well was 1/5th engaged or something the obstetrician actualy said 'ooh you have a very lazy baby' haha. If yours is low down and head properly engaged then maybe it will start things off. MW can check to see how effaced your cervix is, if it's very effaced and soft then labour is near , if it's not then it's unlikely to be started by sweep.

mama2moo · 19/01/2010 13:17

Thanks, I will see how engaged she says the baby is this time (3/5ths 2 weeks ago) and then see if she will have a look!

crumpette · 19/01/2010 13:22

ah the indignity of having babies good luck with midwife! 3/5ths 2 weeks ago sounds like baby may be really low down now!

skidoodle · 19/01/2010 13:43

"All I do know is that millions of babies were routinely slept on their tummies - no doubt because they found it more soothing - and millions of them survived."

There is a pretty strong correlation between parents being advised to put babies to sleep on their backs and a significant drop in the annual rate of SIDS deaths.

Sorry, no time to do good research now, but here's just one source that backs this up from a quick Google:

back to sleep

For a baby with severe reflux, and for whom putting them on their back is causing them pain, then of course it makes sense to reconsider the guideline and take steps to reduce the risks as WMDO is doing.

alibobins · 19/01/2010 13:52

WMDO glad Olivia was more settled last night fingers crossed for tonight too

Jacob being a grump today think the coughing
is hurting his throat saw doctor yesterday who said it can last up to 4 weeks but if he still like it next week she will give him an inhalor x

mama2moo I felt lots of pressure down below a few days befor my waters went but had been having contractions on and off for a couple of weeks. Good luck with midwife x
